 141. Sun Surprise: a short story and meditation for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:09

Anora, Ian, and Mike prepare for a sun surprise!Today there will be a solar eclipse. The friends are excited to see what happens. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Sun Surprise" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Sun Surprise Excerpt: Today was going to be an exciting day. Anora just knew it. She had invited Mike and Ian over to her house to watch the total eclipse. Anora loved science, especially learning about the stars and planets. She had three solar filters so they could look at the sun, on a table under the oak tree. She heard the door open and saw Mike and Ian waving. They felt excited too! Anora proudly showed them the solar filters and explained that they would need to turn away from the sun to put the filters on and take them off, to keep their eyes safe, because it would be so much light. Now that they were ready, Anora asked, “Do you know what happens in a solar eclipse?” Mike said, “I think it has something to do with the moon.” Ian said, “ I thought it was the moon’s shadow we see.” “You’re both right,” Anora said, happy to have a chance to explain her favorite subject. “The moon moves in between the earth and sun, casting its shadow on the earth. We’re in the shadow during an eclipse.” Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.  415. Mesmerizing Ribbons: a calming meditation and story | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:55

Prince Grey Kitty enjoys the beautiful colors in his world. Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 9:18 Narrator: Female Mesmerizing Ribbons Excerpt: “What a beautiful summer afternoon!” thought Prince Grey Kitty. He was perched in his favorite viewing spot, the windowsill of the great window in the front room. He gazed out of the window and relished the picture before his eyes. The world seemed especially colorful today. The sun shone brightly, and the sky was a beautiful azure blue, dotted with just a few pure white clouds. The trees seemed extra beautiful, with their green leaves swaying ever so slightly in the summer breeze. The movement of the leaves and branches created ever-changing patterns on the ground below as the sunlight filtered through. Along the edges of the yard, the oleanders were in full bloom, with patches of flowers in white, pink, and fuchsia. On the front porch, which Prince Grey could see from his big window, Prince Grey’s Human had placed containers of bright orange and yellow hibiscus and had hung long planters full of deep red geraniums on the porch railings. Two big pots of purple lavender were placed in the corners of the porch steps. Everywhere he looked, Prince Grey saw beautiful colors. They made him think of his favorite toy, ribbons! His Human had many ribbons and she seemed to think that their purpose was to be made into crafting projects, but Prince Grey knew they were really for him to play with.  413. A Perfect Evening: a short story and meditation for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:40

Prince Grey Kitty enjoys watching the world through the big front window. Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:10 A Perfect Evening Excerpt: Prince Grey Kitty watched from the front window as the bright sun moved ever closer to the horizon, streaks of radiant orange and pink light filtering through the clouds. This was Prince Grey’s favorite place to watch the world go by. He enjoyed watching the colors of the world change throughout the seasons, and he was always entertained by the antics of the outdoor animals. His favorite activity was watching a beautiful sunset. This was a really good one tonight! But suddenly, Prince Grey was distracted from the beauty of the sky. A flash of fur dashed in front of him. Nutsy and Peanut Squirrel were at it again! Interrupting the serenity of the quiet evening, they zipped back and forth across the yard, squeaking and grunting at each other. Once in a while they’d stop their wild chase to gather a seed from the ground. Then they’d begin again, crisscrossing each other’s paths, and somersaulting over each other, until Prince Grey was almost dizzy watching them race all over the yard. Today's Meditation: Today, enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach. Leland the loon teaches his little loons how to take care of themselves and notice what others are feeling. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Little Loons” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Little Loons Excerpt: The waters on the lake sat peaceful and still. A gentle mist danced across the smooth surface, circling rocks and reeds. Through the peaceful calm a gentle song surfaced. Leland Loon called to his baby chicks. It was time for them to come back to the nest and eat. The little loons stopped exploring the smooth surface of the lake and listened. They heard their papa’s call and began to follow the sound of his song. The little loons felt hungry and were ready for dinner. The loons hooted back to their papa. Listening carefully, Leland hooted again, so that the little ones would know where to go. Slowly the five little loons floated into view. As they came closer together, one little loon bumped into her brothers. “Sorry,” she said, lowering her head. “I’m just so hungry.” Her brother sighed. “You always run into us.” “I know,” she said. “There’s just always something exciting to see or listen to. I get distracted.” Leland smiled. He knew how she felt. There were a lot of wondrous things to see and hear in the world. “Luna, when you finish your dinner, come see me.” “OK,” Luna said. The 5 little loons ate their dinner, and with a full belly little Luna coasted over to Leland. “Luna, you are right. There is a lot to see and hear. I understand your curiosity. It’s great. I would like to show you how to pay attention to what is happening right around you at the same time. Do you know why?" I’m doing it!” Blanka found herself being lifted off the bed and hurriedly carried around the room. “Sorry, Blanka! I have to clean up right now, really quick! Daddy and I are going the lake today but he said I have to clean my room first!” said Anora. Just then, Dad came into the room. “Anora, how’s the clean-up coming along?” “I’m almost done, Daddy,” she replied. “Are you sure? he said, smiling. “It still looks pretty messy to me.” “Daddy, why do I have to clean my room before we go to the lake?  138. Same and Different: a short story and meditation for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:16

Dragon goes back to the land of snow to compare it with the other lands on Ahway Island. What is same and different? Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Same and Different” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Same and Different Excerpt: Landing on the snow, the dragon looked for the open water where Beau the little beluga whale had been before. The dragon searched for the sea. Finding it, the dragon thought about the sea in the beach land. There the water was warm, so the dragon dipped a foot into the water, to compare. Oh no! It was not warm here. The water was cold. The dragon shook with a brrrrr. Beau popped out of the water and said, “You’re back!” The dragon smiled and waved at the little beluga whale. “I was hoping you would come back! I wanted to introduce you to my friend Princely Penguin.” The dragon felt curious. At the beach there were blue penguins. Would the penguins here be like the penguins there? The dragon nodded at Beau, happy to meet a new friend. The little beluga said, “OK, follow me.” The dragon followed the little whale along the icy shore. Soon, they saw a tall black and white penguin waddling along the snowy shore. This penguin looked a bit different from the little blue penguins on the beach. The dragon took a deep breath in and out and breathed a question mark to Beau. Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating in a tranquil pool, safe and relaxed, as the water rocks you gently. Lydia's dad teaches her about the magic of colors as they paint beautiful pictures together. Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 8:44 The Magic of Colors — Refreshed! Excerpt: White fluffy clouds dotted the blue sky and sunshine sparkled on the freshly watered plants. A breeze gently ruffled through the branches of the trees, making the leaves flutter. Lydia looked out of the window at the bright blue sky. It was a magnificent day! She began to think of all the fun things she could do outside. She could swing, draw a picture, walk, write a story, ride her bike, or read a book. But just then, her dad walked in carrying some paper, two old shirts, and four colorful containers. “I thought today might be a good day for finger painting!” he said excitedly. Lydia’s face lit up with a smile. “Ooh, that sounds fantastic! May we paint outside?” “That is a great idea,” her dad said. “But first, let’s make sure our clothes don’t get dirty. Here’s a smock for you.” Lydia’s dad held out one of the old shirts. Lydia put it on and laughed. The shirt was so big it covered her knees, and the sleeves were hanging off her hands. Then James noticed something in the reflection of the window.  His sister was under the desk, holding her knees up to her chest and looking miserable. “Julia, what’s wrong?” he asked. “It’s a very big storm, James,” she said, feeling a bit scared.  “How are you feeling? Usually you hide from loud noises.  I’m amazed you’re actually excited.” Today’s Meditation: Feel your muscles relax as you check in with your body from head to toe. The summer weather is hot and dry, and the neighborhood birds are thirsty! Narrator: Male Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 6:52 Bird Bath Excerpt: The ground was dry – very, very dry. It hadn’t rained in several weeks; actually Carrie the Cardinal couldn’t exactly remember the last time it had rained. Grass had changed from green to brown. The temperatures were very high, and the whole earth felt parched. Nevertheless, the little bird admitted to herself, the world was still very beautiful. Trees were green, including the beautiful maple tree in which she had built her nest. Flowers bloomed. The sun shone dazzlingly bright. The sky was deep blue, with a few scattered clouds, bright and white, high in the sky. Whether she was sitting in a tree or flying in the air, Carrie always enjoyed cloud-watching, imaging that she saw pictures formed by the shape of the clouds. But these clouds were very high and far away, and Carrie knew that no rain would come from those clouds for a long time. Carrie was thirsty and was feeling a tired from the heat. She knew if she flew a long distance, she could find some water – she knew there was a big pond in a nearby neighborhood. But it would take her a while to get there, and she just didn’t feel like she had enough energy. She needed water for energy – but she couldn’t get water without having energy first! What was she going to do? Today’s Meditation: Feel your body fill with warmth and love as you send your loving energy to the world. She did know that she would always be next to two dominoes that had three dots on at least one side. Donna was a double three and proud. As she wondered, a bit of light slipped through the edges of the box. The little black domino hoped that it was time to play a game. The lid was peeled off quickly and light poured into the box. All the dominoes blinked, getting accustomed to the sudden change in light. Donna felt excited as she waited for the container to be tipped over, freeing all the dominoes. However, this time all the dominoes stayed in the box, and the little girl gently took one out at a time. Betty Bunny's morning routine is a little different today. What could her special Human friend Max be doing? Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:53 Narrator: Male Bunny Playground Excerpt: Betty Bunny woke up slowly. She yawned. She lifted her head and looked out the nearby window. It was cloudy and a little windy outside. Betty Bunny thought to herself, “Maybe the sun wanted to stay in bed today.  I hope it feels OK!” The little bunny stood up on her hind legs to see if she could see any glimpse of a sunbeam.  Suddenly, the clouds moved apart, pushed by the wind, and a little glimmer of sun flickered down and kissed Betty Bunny on the nose. “Oh good! My sunshine was just resting!” Betty thought, smiling. Feeling grateful for the bit of sun, Betty went back to quietly eating her hay.  The hay was delicious and she was happy to have it, but she usually ate fresh parsley for breakfast and she wondered why she hadn’t gotten any parsley yet today.  She also wondered why Max, her special Human friend, hadn’t played with her yet.  Something seemed different today.  135. Boating Adventures: a soothing kid’s story when you need a break | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:44

Manny the motor boat gently tows people behind on a tube. Everyone is excited for their boating adventures! Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Boating Adventures” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Forest Friends Excerpt: Manny gently tugged the tube out into the lake, noticing how well the person held on. When the little motorboat was sure the person was comfortable, he went a little bit faster. There was a shriek of delight as Manny’s speed increased a little bit more. All the people in the boat turned to watch their friend hanging onto the tube. Everything seemed pretty safe so the little motorboat went a tiny bit faster, …then faster, …and even faster still. Now everyone in the boat was cheering, encouraging their friend to hang on! Manny smiled as he heard the laughter and supportive yells. Everyone was having a great time. Ahead Manny spotted some waves made by a larger boat. With a mischievous grin, the little motor boat decided to cross the waves. He went up and down rolling over the top of the swells. The people in the boat laughed as they gently rolled, watching the person on the tube. The tube had bounced up and landed on the lake, and that person laughed and laughed. Manny smiled, glad everyone was having such fun, and slowed down a bit. He knew it was harder to hold on when you are laughing so hard. In fact, it sounded like the people wanted to switch tube riders. Usually when the little motorboat took the people out they took turns on the tube, so he was prepared for a change.  Tumbling Tabby: a story and meditation for your bedtime routine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:28

Grubby Kitty discovers packing peanuts — and makes a mess! But Dad is very patient. Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:18 Narrator: Male Tumbling Tabby Excerpt: The afternoon sun poured through the big kitchen window onto the shelf placed under the window. The shelf was covered with some pretty fabric with flowers on it; Mom had put the fabric on the shelf to protect the shelf from scratches, but Grubby Kitty liked to think that she had put it there just for him, because it made a very cozy place to sleep. Grubby Kitty had discovered this wonderful napping location quite recently, and so this afternoon, like every other afternoon for the last two weeks, Grubby was curled up on the fabric, taking a nap in the warmth of the sun. But suddenly, ding-dong! The front doorbell rang. Grubby woke up with a shake. From the other room, he heard Dad walk to the door, open it, and shout out “thank you!” Grubby was a little startled at first, as he had been deeply asleep and the noise surprised him. But he took a couple of big Dragon Breaths and felt much better. He stretched and yawned. Now he was wide awake and felt like exploring. Who had been at the door?  Munching Lunch: a calming meditation and story | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:27

Marley the monarch caterpillar wakes up and she is hungry. As she is munching her lunch Marley meets a friend. Will there be enough milkweed for both of them? Narrator: Female Munching Lunch Excerpt: Fluffy clouds covered the sky like a thick blanket, as the itty bitty caterpillar stretched and crawled out of the tiny egg.  Marley’s tummy grumbled loudly.  It was time to eat.  The little monarch caterpillar took a little nibble from the bright green leaf.  It certainly was yummy!  Num, num, num, num, num.  Marley nibbled and crunched the milkweed leaf.  Slowly a hole developed in the leaf. And still the caterpillar ate and ate.  Marley was growing and the milkweed gave her just what she needed. The tiny caterpillar tried to watch what was happening around her. However, the milkweed was so delicious she lost track of anything but the juicy leaf.  Marley nibbled and crunched until “Ow!”  she looked up.  There was another monarch caterpillar looking at her and rubbing his head with his feet. “Oh I’m sorry!” Marley said. “I was so busy eating I didn’t notice you.  Are you OK?” Today’s Meditation: Gently sway like the graceful willow tree in today's meditation.
