 433. Autumn Moments: a short story and meditation for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:08

Wilma Willow treasures the moments of a beautiful autumn day. Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:05 Autumn Moments Excerpt: Wilma the Willow Tree stood at the edge of the creek and gazed at the softly flowing water. The graceful willow tree always enjoyed watching how the water danced around the stones in the creek bed. Today, as always, little fish played in the creek, swimming against the flowing water with all their strength, their tiny fins moving as fast as they could go. Then suddenly, the fish relaxed their bodies entirely, letting the current take them back down the creek. Wilma’s branches swayed slightly as she chuckled to herself, amused by the antics of the little fish. She knew the creek would soon be frozen and still, so she treasured up the images of the playful fish, storing up the memories in her mind. An acorn rolled down next to Wilma’s trunk. She looked upwards, gazing at her friend, Oswald the Oak Tree. “How’s it going, Oswald?” she called out. Today’s Meditation: Today, enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach. Looking for stories that emphasize acceptance, understanding, and empathy?  148. Penguin Games: a calming story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:45

Dragon joins in the penguin games with Princely. Having lots of fun sliding across the ice, will Dragon end up in the water? Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Penguin Games" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Penguin Games Excerpt: The dragon flew back to the land of ice and snow, for another visit with Princely the Penguin and Beau the Beluga Whale. The dragon paid close attention to the gorgeous landscape, now knowing the way. Everything was white, with a little bit of blue in the ice and sea. Stars twinkled in the sky and the moonlight caused the snow to sparkle like diamonds. The dragon landed in the soft snow and began searching for Princely and Beau. Then Princely slid up and over a drift, on his belly. He spun in a circle and popped up at the dragon’s feet. The penguin smiled and asked, “Wanna try?” It did look like a lot of fun. The dragon heard a splash, turned, and saw the little whale smiling from the surface of the sea. “Go ahead! You’ll like it,” Beau encouraged the dragon. “I’ll have fun watching.” The dragon nodded at Princely with a smile.  431. To the Rescue! a calming meditation and story | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:45

Eddie and Luis are playing outside when they notice their neighbor needs some help! Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 8:02 To the Rescue! Excerpt: Eddie and his little brother Luis were playing outside. It was a lovely autumn afternoon. The cool, crisp breeze swept over the tree branches, slowly but surely pushing any remaining leaves off the branches and onto the ground. But the sun was bright and kept the children from feeling too cold. Eddie and Luis were pretending they were on an old-fashioned sailing ship. Eddie pretended to be the captain, and Luis one of the sailors. Luis had climbed one of the trees in the yard and was sitting on one of the branches, pretending to adjust the sails. “Sailor!” shouted Eddie, “tie up the mizzenmast! There’s a storm approaching!” “Ay-ay, captain!” shouted Luis, trying to make his voice loud and deep, which was a little hard since he was only six. But then he said in his normal voice, “Er, Eddie, what’s a mizzenmast?” “Oh…well, you know, sailing ships have tall masts with sails. The mizzenmast is the mast at the back of the ship,” replied Eddie. “Oh, okay,” said Luis. “Er, I mean… ay-ay, captain!” he said, using his sailor voice again. “Tying up the mizzenmast now, sir!”   Today’s Meditation: Feel calm and relaxed as you send kind energy to your heart.  147. Racing Sails: a relaxation and story for your nap time routine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:36

Eddie and Luis are out for a sail when they spot some friends in another boat. It's time for the racing sails! Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Racing Sails" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Racing Sails Excerpt: “Before you get on, you’ll need these,” their dad said, handing them life vests. Luis took one and handed it to Eddie, then they both put them on and carefully climbed aboard. The boat rocked a little as each boy stepped on. They found a spot to sit and watched as their mom and dad worked together to move Sandy out of the harbor. Soon they were out on the lake and the boys helped raise the sails by pulling on the lines their mom handed them. Once the main sail was up and filled with wind, Sandy began to tilt. Luis giggled a little. This was his favorite part.  As the wind tugged at the sail, Luis and Eddie’s mom noticed another sailboat further out on the lake and said, “Look, there’s another boat! Let’s race!” Their dad smiled and set their sailboat up to try to catch the other boat. They zipped across the waves, rolling over the crests and splashing down in the valleys. Just as they were about to catch the other sailboat, it turned. Luis and Eddie watched as the bright white sail fluttered, searching for the wind once again.  It found it and billowed out, full and strong. The sailboat headed towards Sandy, and Luis and Eddie could see two girls waving at them. “Is that Lisa?”  Luis asked. “I see Lydia, too!”  Eddie called out. Today’s Meditation: Feel your muscles relax as you check in with your body from head to toe.  429. Leafy Fun! a relaxation and story for your nap time routine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:44

Lisa and her parents have fun cleaning up autumn leaves. Narrator: Male Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:36 Leafy Fun! Excerpt: Lisa gazed out the window at her front yard. All she could see was leaves. There wasn’t even a glint of green – neither green grass nor green leaves. Instead the ground was a wash of warm, autumnal colors: all shades of brown, sprinkled here and there with pops of red, orange, and golden yellow. Lisa knew what that meant. Time to rake leaves! Just then her mom walked into her room and said, “Hi, hon! I could use your help with something.” Lisa turned to look at her mom. “Leaves?” “How did you know?” Her mom smiled. Lisa’s dad came into her room, looked out the window, and said “Well, I don’t know, dear. Maybe we should wait. That maple tree still has one leaf on it.” All three of them laughed, but Lisa said, “You’re silly, dad! But we should really clean the yard today, while the weather’s still good! We could get snow soon!" Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.  146. More Tent Tales: a bedtime story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:26

Tyra the Tent has more Tent Tales of helping kids with their emotions. Who will she help today? Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “More Tent Tales" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female More Tent Tales Excerpt: Tyra the Tent was proud of her role in helping the children learn. She made sure that the paper listing the rules was posted right inside the entrance, although now the kids seemed to know exactly what to do. Just like the rules said, once inside the tent, they took three deep dragon breaths in and out. Just like that. Then, once they finished with the deep breaths, they chose a “feel better” activity. That’s what was different. Tyra was interested to see each kid’s choice. Sometimes they used the same things for the different feelings. Sometimes they used something different for the same feeling. Sometimes they had to try a few things before they found something that helped. The little tent had all kinds of books. She had all kinds of fidgets. Tyra had music to quietly hum along with, papers and crayons to draw with, and a list of exercises. In the corner the little tent had a small beanbag chair, and a blanket for sitting quietly. There were so many options. She wondered what the kids would use today. The little tent found out quickly.  A little girl came in and bounced into the beanbag chair.  The girl could hardly sit still, and she had a giant grin plastered on her face. “Wow!” Tyra thought, “She really feels excited.” Today’s Meditation: Today, enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach.  427. Dear Helpers: a mindful bedtime story | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:13

Lydia and Luis create thank you cards to the helpers in their community. Narrator: Male Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 6:50 Dear Helpers Excerpt: Lydia had just begun drawing a portrait of her parents when she heard her Dad’s phone ring from the other room. She heard her Dad talking for a minute, and then he came into the kitchen. “Hey Lydia, Luis’ mom is on the phone. Luis is sad that he can’t play outside today and would like to come over to our house and play with you. Would that be okay with you?” “Oh wow, sure!” said Lydia, excitedly. “That’d be great!” “Okay!” said Dad, and he went back into the other room to confirm with Luis’ mom. In another minute he came back into the kitchen. “Luis will be over in just a couple of minutes. His mom said he’d love to make art with you! He’s going to bring some supplies.” Luis lived in the same neighborhood as Lydia, so it didn’t take long for him to arrive. He had brought with him some of his own markers, and, to Lydia’s delight, a whole box full of stickers! “Wow!” said Lydia, “Look at all these stickers! What kind of art shall we make?” “I don’t know yet,” said Luis. “What do you think?” “You know, I have an idea, kids,” said Lydia’s Dad. “Why don’t you each draw a thank-you card for your teachers? They’re working really hard right now and I think they’d really appreciate cards for each of you!” Today’s Meditation: Happiness and love flow through you in this meditation.  145. 1st Day Fun: a calming story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:40

Bobby the Bus is ready for 1st day fun as he follows his route to pick up the Kindergarteners. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “1st Day Fun" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 6:41 1st Day Fun Excerpt: Sunshine filled the morning sky with bright cheerful light.  It was the 1st day of Kindergarten and Bobby the Bus was excited and nervous.  He was sparkling clean and ready. Bobby had practiced his route several times, and had it memorized.  The happy yellow bus knew it was his responsibility and privilege to carry the kindergartners to school safely.  Bobby reminded himself that his practice routes had gone well.  He had extra time scheduled so that the kindergartners would be on time, even if their parents took a while to say goodbye.  Bobby took a deep dragon breath in and out to help himself calm.  OK, it was time to start the day. As the big yellow bus approached the first stop, he noticed the little kids were pointing and smiling.  One was even hopping up and down with excitement. What a relief!  Moms and dads gave their little ones hugs as each child stepped onto the bus. They climbed slowly up the great big steps with their little legs.  Each little one sat down in a seat where they could see their parents, and waved excitedly out the window.  Great big smiles shined on their faces as their parents waved back.  Slowly Bobby pulled away from the stop.  The big yellow bus delighted in the sound of laughter as it drifted to the front. Mia and Max learn about heirloom seeds from Grandma and Grandpa. Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:03 Heirlooms Excerpt: Autumn sunlight poured into Max’s bedroom, a bright beam of light falling over Max’s closed eyes. He stirred, the light beginning to wake him. He sighed and stretched and slowly opened his eyes, shielding them from the light with his arm. As he woke up, he suddenly remembered – they were going to visit the Botanic Gardens with Grandma and Grandpa today! Max went to wake up his sister Mia. He knew she would be excited, too. Max and Mia both loved visiting the Botanic Garden, but more importantly, they loved spending time with Grandma and Grandpa. Sure enough, Mia got out of bed cheerfully as soon as Max woke her up. After Max and Mia had breakfast, had gotten dressed, and brushed their teeth, they waited for Grandma and Grandpa to arrive so they could all go together to the Gardens. “I want to go to the kitchen gardens!” said Mia. “That’s my favorite part of the Botanic Gardens.” “Me, too!” said Max. “I want to see the vegetables!” Today’s Meditation: Today, enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach. Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Puffin Fun" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Puffin Fun Excerpt: Soft clouds covered the sky, as the puffin family woke from their afternoon nap. Pearl and Peter Puffin rubbed beaks and smiled as they hugged their baby bird. Then Pearl stretched her wings wide. It was her turn to search for dinner. The mama and papa puffin rubbed beaks once more and Pearl stepped outside of their cozy burrow. The little puffin wandered over to the edge of the island and flew out across the water. Finding a good spot, she dove into the water with a tiny splash. With her wings extended, Pearl looked like she was flying through the water. She twisted and turned, enjoying the feeling of the water around her feathers. Then she popped back up to the surface and floated on the waves. Just for a moment, Pearl allowed herself to enjoy the gentle rocking sensation of the sea. It was time to find food for dinner so the little puffin took a deep dragon breath in and out and dove down.  The color of the water changed from clear, to a light blue to a rich blue, as Pearl dove deeper and deeper.  Then she saw something sparking as it was caught by the light. Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:32 Putt-Putt Fun Excerpt: “Dad, what are we going to do today?” asked Mia. “Today we’re going to play miniature golf,” replied Dad. “Oh wow, cool!” exclaimed Max. “Miniature golf? What’s that?” asked Mia. “Mini golf is like grownup golf, but it’s better for kids and it’s more fun,” said Max. “You get a golf ball and a golf stick…” “…a putter,” said Mom, smiling. “…a putter,” continued Max, “and then instead of hitting the golf ball into holes in the grass like in a regular golf game, you hit the ball into holes next to cute little buildings and castles and stuff. Maybe because of the putter.” “Wow,” said Mia, “I want to play Putt Putt!” Today’s Meditation: Today, notice loving energy flowing through your body, from your feet up to your head.  143. Dragon the Builder: a bedtime story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:25

Dragon the builder completes an ice castle for Princely the Penguin. How will they celebrate? Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Dragon the Builder" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Dragon the Builder Excerpt: The dragon smiled at Beau and nodded, then began to pack the snow together. Princely smoothed it over with his wings. Amazingly, the snow stayed together better than the sand had. Creating tall cylinders on the sides for the towers and making a square for the center, slowly the castle grew. Once the basic shape was there, the dragon began to dig some snow out to form entrances. “Wow” Princely said, “this looks extravagant.” The dragon stopped and looked at the penguin with an expression that said, 'what does that mean?' “You know, fancy.” The dragon nodded. Before long the structure was finished. Princely and Beau said, “Wow!” Beau said, “You could live in that, Princely.” Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.  420. Autumn Clean-Up: a relaxation and story for your nap time routine | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:36

Joe helps out with his favorite chore: cleaning up leaves with the leaf blower! Narrator: Male Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:52 Autumn Clean-Up Excerpt: Sunlight spilled into the room, waking up Joe. He sighed and stretched. It was a Saturday morning in early autumn – Joe’s favorite time of the year! Those crisp, cool days, when the leaves fell down from the trees like multi-colored rain. Those chilly evenings when Joe could curl up with a book in front of a cozy fire. Joe and his sister Theresa both had to help with chores around the house, and in the fall, Joe’s job was to help clean up the yard, especially by clearing up all the leaves on the lawn. But Joe didn’t mind. Actually, raking and blowing leaves was his favorite chore. He loved making big piles of leaves on the lawn and he always had fun using the big leaf blower. Today’s Meditation: Feel your body fill with warmth and love as you send your loving energy to the world.  142. The Huggy Chair: a mindful story for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:14

Bailey the Bean Bag Chair gets ready to help the kids deal with their feelings. Sometimes everyone needs a Huggy Chair. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “The Huggy Chair" and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male The Huggy Chair Excerpt: Bailey didn’t have to wait long. An angry kid stomped into the room and flopped down into the chair, arms crossed and brow furrowed. The big beanbag chair loved a tough case! He circled the boy, and gave him a tight hug. Anyone who settled into the beanbag chair needed to take three deep dragon breaths. That was the rule. So the boy took a deep dragon breath in and out and his forehead softened. The boy took another deep dragon breath in and out and his arms uncrossed. With one more deep dragon breath in and out the boy’s body relaxed into the bean bag chair and he sighed. His anger seemed to have melted away. Slowly the boy climbed out of the squishy chair. Bailey tried his best to fluff himself back up. He wanted to be ready for the next kid that needed him. However, now there was a pit right in the center of the bean bag chair. “Oh well,” Bailey thought, “at least they’ll know where to sit now.” Today’s Meditation: Happiness and love flow through you in this meditation.  419. Dance Class: a bedtime story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:01

Ballet Bunny practices her dancing and teaches Dragon how to turn and spin. Narrator: Female Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 9:07 Dance Class Excerpt: Before going outside, Ballet Bunny took a few minutes to warm up her body before beginning to practice dancing. It was important to stretch before doing any strenuous dance moves, especially since she hadn’t danced in several days. Ballet Bunny stretched her legs out one by one, in front, in back, and to the sides. She arched her back, and twisted her head to the left and the right. She did a few bending exercises to strengthen her muscles. Soon she felt ready to go outside and dance! Ballet Bunny stepped out of her den, blinking at first in the bright sunlight. What a beautiful day! In the open area in front of her den, Ballet did one or two more stretches. Then, she began to dance. She did simple steps at first, still feeling like she needed to warm-up. Slowly, she switched to more intricate footwork, focusing on her technique at first. Finally, fully warmed up, she began practicing her turns. She spun rapidly around many times, first to the left, and then again to the right. Then, left, then right again. It was important to be able to turn equally well in both directions, so she needed to practice her turns on both sides. Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating on a cloud and relax into the feeling of lightness. Looking for stories that emphasize acceptance, understanding, and empathy? You'll find them on Ahway Island®.
