When Truck Drivers Go Postal. A truck driver walked into a trucking company and killed his boss with a gun. He then went to another trucking company and shot a female. Unbelievable he went to a third trucking company and inquired about a third person. That person was not there at the time. Jeremy Spicer then walked to another business and hid in the bathroom. Eventually he turned the gun on himself. Reports are saying he had an issue with a second load and was about to be fired. Ultimately he turned the gun on himself. This was a tragedy for all involved. If you are a driver and are felling angry, it might be time to quit your job. Walking away and starting a new job would be better than making a decision that is going to last a life time. There is a point of no return. Jeremy went to that point. There are many trucking companies that don't care about their drivers. All that matters is the profit they make. Some drivers can not be reasoned with and go too far. There are many trucking companies that are good and become victims of bad drivers. Again, some drivers can not be reasoned with. Distracted For 8 Seconds A Truckers Horror Story. At any given time on any given day experts estimate there are about 660,000 that are texting and driving. An article by Edgar Snyder outlined the many dangers and statistic of texting and driving. A semi-truck traveling at 55mph, travels approximately the length of a football field in 5 seconds. This includes the goals. Sam Hicks took his eyes off the road for 8 seconds. He was traveling at 63mph. His truck struck and killed Robert Bursik, 54. Hicks is serving his sentence of 4 years and regrets it every day. His story can be found on YouTube. Sam tells the story from his prison cell. Lives have been changed for ever. Sam said "I dod not think anything would happen" when he made the choice to look at a text from his girlfriend. By the time he looked up, it was too late. Sam's rig was right at the point of impact. A Sad Letter From A Truck Driver. Shawn Dirkson, a trucker from Washington recently wrote a letter about an encounter he had with an old school trucker. He explained how they met at a truck stop and had dinner together. This old school trucker just let it all out over a plate of food at a truck stop diner. Update on a truck driver that killed a police man in Tennessee Recently we talked about a truck driver that killed a police man that was trying to pick up a ladder that was in an interstate in Tennessee. As the officer was receiving it, a trucker hit and killed him. The truck driver was then arrested at the scene for being on drugs at the time of the accident. When Truckers Die Away From Home. Truck drivers are killed at a rate of 800 to 1000 times a year. That's an average of 2.7 truckers per day. In many cases, family members are abandoned by the trucking company that offers no help in retrieving the body. We recently heard of a trucker that was killed while on the road. His wife attempted to contact the company for help bringing him home. She did not get so much as a phone call. This happens more often than none. Trucking companies all across America feel they have no responsibility to help recover the driver that was committed to them, hauling their freight. There is an answer to this madness. Truckers Final Mile, is a Non-profit organization set up to help this particular problem. Robert Palm, the founder of TFI has seen his share of these issues over his career. He experienced first hand, a trucking company refusing to help him, when he was involved in a wreck many years ago. In 2012 he started Truckers Final Mile to help families get their loved ones home once they have died on the road. Many families live pay check to pay check. In Love With A Trucker & The Convoy. We recently came across a story of love and excitement on the road. Esther Liner wrote how she met a truck driver online. A long haul trucker as she puts it, stole her heart. They met online and only one time in person before they moved in together, in his semi truck that is. She wrote how they had been talking for two months before she realized that, there is nothing holding her back from joining him on an adventure. Top Reasons Truckers At Fault Accidents. Before I write some of this article, let me start off by saying, car drivers cause more accidents than big trucks. But that's not what this story is about. This is about, the main reason truckers are at fault when in an accident. Statistics from the study indicate that trucks or truck drivers are more likely to cause a crash because of the trucker’s aggressive or inattentive driving or the vehicle’s failure. Thats right, truck drivers cause accidents because they are not paying attention or they are driving aggressive. Reasons why a trucker drives aggressive are pressure to to get a load delivered on time. When a trucker feels he cant be late, he can start speeding and passing vehicle in an unprofessional and dangerous way. The end result many times is a wreck. Trucker Bites IT AT Rest Area. Nurgazy Mamyrov a trucker from Longhorn PA, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of October 5th 2021. Mamyrov was involved in a few incidents with citizens before state police were called to the scene. When state police arrived, they found Mamyrov arguing with another driver. Both were speaking in Russian language. At that moment the other driver was taken into custody. Police tried to coax Mamyrov out of his tractor but had no luck in doing so. Trucker Bites IT AT Rest Area Mamyrov started his truck and proceeded to ram forward forcing police to shoot at the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The state police were investigated and found to be justified in the shooting. Trucking Company Hired A Killer. Yaimy Galan Segura, Owner Castellano 03 Trucking LLC, the trucking company that hired Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, gave a deposition after the accident. Segura's deposition was made public recently and we have a partial copy. In the writings, she admitted she knew nothing about the trucking industry. Rather she had a neighbor that owned a small company and was doing well. With advice from friends and researching the internet, Yaimy started her very own trucking company. In an arbitration, also obtained by TalkCDL, she disputed the fines she had received. With barley over $10, 000 in fines Segura went to arbitration to dispute. Records show that she was fined for numerous violations including one count is for violating 49 CFR 382.301(a) (“No employer shall allow a driver, who the employer intends to hire or use, to perform safety-sensitive functions unless the employer has received a controlled substances test result from the [named entities] indicating a verified negative test result for that driver.”). She was also fined for Ten counts are for violating 49 CFR 395.8(e)(l) (“No driver or motor carrier may make a false report in connection with a duty status.”). Examples of these counts involve driver reports indicating that the driver was in a vehicle’s sleeping berth, although at such times the driver was driving the vehicle. Truck Driver Faces Vehicular Homicide in the Death of a COP Knoxville TN: Semi truck driver Christopher Savannah was arrested after he failed to slow down for a rolling barricade on I75. Savanah struck and killed deputy Sgt. Chris Jenkins, who was removing debris from the road. Savanah was charged with DWI, Vehicular homicide, possession of a hand gun while under the influence and many more charges. Elon Musk Trucker Killed Plus Ruthann. The his week a tragic accident in Texas. Apparently two semi trucks collided in Kermit near San Angelo TX. One driver was killed when the sand truck that was involved spilled its content into the cab of the other driver burying him alive. This kind of accident is so rare that is stunned everyone that heard about it. Bridge Collapse in Pittsburgh A bridge collapsed this past week during the morning hours. At about 7a.m. the bridge in Forbes avenue in Frick Park just fell down injuring 10 people and sending 3 to the hospital. There were no fatalities to report at the time. Authorities said the bridge had been inspected this past September. They said it had gone through a vigorous inspection and past with flying colors. A gasoline was ruptured and had to be repaired. A TRUCKER WITH ISSUES PLUS JOHNNY ACID. Recently a trucker applied for a job. He had 7 months experience and was getting paid .41cpm. He was offered .56cpm by the potential new employer. He was also told that the carrier has a lease purchase program and he could get on that program after a short time as a company driver. Orientation. The driver traveled over 1200 miles to attend the company orientation. On the first day of class, he displayed a very aggressive personality and demanded that he be put on the lease purchase program from day one. This did not go over big since the company had already told him that he would have to be a company driver for a short time before entering into the lease program. This was about to be a problem. Tune into the lates podcast to hear the results of this situation. Lease purchase drivers can make allot of money if they run their truck correctly. But fort they must prove to a good company that their truck will be profitable. If they have not been part of a successful lease program in the pat, they are most likely to fail where ever they go. A good lease driver must always be on time with their deliveries. They must not take too much time off and they truly should not be refusing loads. Let's break this down. If a lease driver is not on time much, he will cost the company and himself money. Many late deliveries come with a late fee which the carrier will pass onto the driver. If a truck driver takes too much time off, they cut into their profit and ultimately the companies profit. This will not work with many companies. If a driver refuses loads they are losing money and so is the company. The reasons outlined above are just simply the why carriers do not like to hire drivers that do not have a proven track record when it comes to leasing. The driver with 7 months experience acted like a typical person that thinks they know everything. He wanted to start at the top being that is where the bigger pay checks are. In the end, this driver was put in a company truck and hopefully he will learn. UNRULY PASSENGERS IN TRUCKING. Recently there was a trucking company trying to hire a driver in Illinois. Turns out the truck driver had a passenger that traveled with him. It was his wife. Let's call her Sarah. Now Sarah was a little on the "demanding side" and she was not shy about what she wanted. Let's call her husband "Bill". Bill was applying to a trucking company in Oklahoma. Bill had several yeas of experience with a clean record and for the most part on normal conditions, would be a great hire for any trucking company. Sarah had instructed Bill to make a few requests to his potential employer concerning her needs. One of those requests was a smoke free truck. The reason for this was, she is highly allergic to cigarette smoke. The company could not guarantee that one of their truck were smoke free being most truckers smoke. These requests and negotiations went on for several days before they were told that most likely they might not be able to accommodate Sarah and Bill. Sarah was getting tired and annoyed with her husbands recruiter and asked to speak with his boss. When she was able to reach the recruiters boss she was told that they did not think the oosition was going to be a good fit for them. This of course enraged Sarah whom made a few statement to the director. This ended with a few words from both parties and a strong good bye. The end result was, Sarah was not welcome to come as a passenger. TRUCKERS TO THE RESCUE. Recently a snow storm had motorist stranded on I95 in Virginia. The Interstate was shut down for 15 hours. During this time people started running out of gas and had no choice but to abandon their vehicle. Luckily for many, there were quick thinking, kind hearted truckers also stuck on that road. Many truck drivers were seen handing out food and blankets to families that needed a warm piece of clothing. These kind act will be forever imbedded in the minds of those that needed something that night, to keep themselves alive. FMCSA is pushing forward with 18 to 20 year old truckers to join the ranks of semi truck drivers. It's no secret, that the DOT is pushing for the younger generation to get their CDL. FMCSA is starting a pilot program that will last three years. The program will consist of two parts of training. Justice For Truckers. This past week Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, the trucker that was involved in a quadruple fatality in 2019, was resentenced for the deadly crash. Originally Aguilera-Mederos received 110 years in prison for the charges of vehicular homicide. He was given clemency by the Governor of Colorado and his sentence was dropped to 10 years. With good behavior he could be out of prison at the end of 2026. JUSTICE FOR TRUCKERS Some safety violations can turn into misdemeanor or felony convictions Paul O. Taylor recently wrote an article outlining violations that truckers take for granted. There are several violations that truckers commit everyday without realizing the consequences could mean jail time. For example, an employment application. Yes, did you know when you falsify a driver application, it could lead to jail time. BIG PRISON SENTENCE FOR TRUCKER PLUS TESLA. A truck driver was recently sentenced to 110 yers in prison for a crash that resulted in multiple deaths. Rogel Aguilera-Mederos was convicted of vehicular homicide Because of the way the law is set up on Colorado, a judge had no choice but too hand down the stiff sentence. Public outcry has been overwhelming for this case. Over four million signatures have have been added to a petition calling for clemency for the trucker. Most agree that the punishment by far exceeded the conviction. More recently prosecutors handed the paperwork for clemency to the courts in Colorado asking for a sentence of 10 to 30 years. Tesla cars now equated with gaming system "Passenger Play" Passenger play allows a person to play video games while the autonomous system is in control of the vehicle. There are no know deaths as of yet but one should be aware at all time while a vehicle is in motion. No autonomous car has registered a perfect record which should alarm anyone that puts full trust in a machine to keep you safe.
