Scott Doucet: The Podcast Discovery Center – A Safe Haven for Podcasters to Master Their Craft (AoL 080) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 1:06:24

As we heard in the AoL session with Chris Ripka, podcasting has been around for quite awhile - just not the form that we're all used to. However, it seems that only recently it's been catching on as a popular medium. I mean, for me, it's still hard to believe that 36% of all people 18 years old or older have listened to a podcast sometime in their life. I still find myself explaining what it is to most people who don't know what AoL is. But once I do describe it, they're blown away by it's potential and many even ask "how do I get started?". Currently I'm working on a solution for that question, but in the meantime, I often tell them to check out Facebook groups - especially the Podcast Discovery Center (PDC). As co-founder of the PDC, today's guest is dedicated in making the members of the PDC feel like they're part of the family. As you'll find out, Scott Doucet has had plenty of experience in other larger podcast groups, and what he and his co-founder Anthony found out is that many times those groups like to push an agenda. The only thing that the PDC wants to push is the success of your show. In this conversation, I ask him more about how he got started as a podcaster, more about that foundation of the group, and we also find out more about his own business and how he can help you if you're looking to create a podcast for your business. As always, thanks for listening, and enjoy the show! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How did Scott get into podcasting? 6:00 * What was behind starting the Podcast Discovery Center (PDC)? 9:35 * What kind of creative influences did he have growing up? 11:34 * How did Scott and Anthony hook up to create the PDC? 12:24 * How exactly is the PDC setup to be different than other podcast groups? 14:47 * Has the themed format that the PDC utilizes day to day worked in creating engagement? 16:17 * What is Scott's recommendation for starting a group with a similar spirit to the PDC? 19:50 * How did he build enough business as a podcast consultant in a matter of months that he now has a waiting list. 21:48 * What worries Scott about the future of podcasting? 32:58 * How would he recommend to a podcast purist to monetize their show? 38:49 * How to find out who's listening to your show? 43:31 * What's coming up for Scott in the rest of 2017? 46:41 * Scott's top 3 favorite influences? 49:42 * Hardest thing he's had to say no to? 50:53 * Something he believed when he was 25 but no longer believes today? 51:30 * What are three truths he's learned over time? 53:06 * What does it mean to live a life of abundance? 54:45 * ... and MUCH more!  Barbara Ireland: How to Stop Negative Thoughts – What We Can Learn from a Near Death Experience (AoL 079) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 1:25:40

Society teaches us to look for the negative in situations. Just about everything that is popular today has some sort of conflict. From TV shows, news, and movies - we're always looking at what is wrong with the world around us. (Heck, I'm pretty sure that's how Trump got the nomination and won the election - he used the negative for his benefit.) It's very uncommon for people to natively want to look for the good in situations. Mainly because we're not programmed to be like that. However, as our guest in this session, Barbara Ireland talks about in this session, having that perspective isn't very useful if you're trying to do more than just get by or simply survive. Just like Clay mentioned in session 78, you're truly wanting to have a great life, then you're going to have to stop looking for what's wrong in every situation. You need to stop thinking negative thoughts. In this conversation, Laila and I discover what Barbara learned about negative thoughts and breaking out of them... all thanks to the near death experience she had. As always, thanks for listening, and enjoy the show! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Where did the journey of being an entrepreneur begin for Barbara? 8:27 * What were her creative influences growing up? 13:11 * Did she have any mentors growing up? 15:34 * How she went from being a singer to a writer through having her near death experience? 19:39 * What made her write her book in the first place? 30:03 * What are mindloops and her thoughts on positive and negative mentality? 35:07 * How does she start the process of helping people who are in a funk and become better versions of themselves? 40:54 * What is delooping? 43:50 * What are steps of delooping that people tend to struggle with the most? 49:45 * What are some of Barbara's techniques in her delooping method? 51:04 * As an NDE herself, what are Barbara's impressions of the Netflix show The OA? 1:01:01 * What are Barbara's top 3 favorite books? 1:08:50 * One thing under $100 that changed her life? 1:12:30 * What was something she believed as a 30 year old and doesn't today? 1:14:10 * What is one piece of advice that has changed her mindset the most? 1:15:59 * Secret to achieving personal freedom? 1:16:24 * ... and MUCH more!  Clay Green: Make it Happen – 3 Habits To Help You Get What You Really Want (AoL 078) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 1:04:00

Many of us have heard many times the actual steps to being successful. In fact, I've wrote about many of these topics in blog posts here at New Inceptions. They include: * Reading and/or learning from others who have what you want regularly. * You should plan regularly to get what you want. * Reflect as much as possible - Daily, weekly, Monthly, Yearly. * Appreciate what you have because doing the opposite is what we're used to and it's a big reason why so many of us have negative attitudes. The list goes on. In today's episode, co-host of AoL and founder of EnthusiatiCLAY, Clay Green, shares with us his three top habits. These habits include much of what we need to do to achieve long term success. And we've heard people talk about them before. In this podcast, however, he takes it to the next level. He actually shares proof in why we should be doing these three things. I also ask him some in depth questions that lead to a great conversation as well. This is his silver edition, so if you want his background, you can find out more about him in session 46. As always, thanks for listening, and enjoy the show! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How we got started in this talk. 6:25 * How's his trek going throughout the country going? 8:15 * What's the first step to building your own belief? 12:16 * How do you build your belief circle? 18:02 * How do you start listening to your own internal voice of what you actually want? 26:50 * The three habits which can change your life. 21:30 * Why meditation is important to so many successful people. 31:40 * Why gratitude is essential to long lasting success. 43:14 * The hardest thing he's ever had to say no to. 46:46 * One thing that cost under $100 that has changed his life. 48:41 * What's the smallest decision he's made that has had the largest impact on his life? 49:30 * What is one thing all high school students must know? 53:31 * How can someone be a difference maker in their community? 56:58 * ... and MUCH more!  Creating Big Events through Small Details: Why Virtual Summits are the New Webinars with Jaime Slutzky (AoL 076) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 58:21

As a creative, one of the biggest ways to get your name out on the web these days are through is through webinars. You show up, give your presentation on your topic, and then, if everything goes right, you'll soon see people signing up for your newsletter or, better yet, buying from you. However, in a world where there are those of us who haven't made a name for ourselves, or simply want to have a large event, a solo webinar might not be the best choice for you to promote your services or products. That's where virtual summits come in. Like a conference, a virtual summit is a collection of speakers discussing one topic. But unlike a conference, you can host it on the web like a webinar. Which is great! Virtually no overhead and no one has to travel to receive the information. In my chat with Jaime Slutzky, founder of Virtual Summits Tech, we discuss more about the topic of virtual summits, how she got into helping people with them, and some of the keys that will make your next one a success. As always, thanks for listening, and enjoy the show! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How Jaime got started in Computer Science as her major. 7:28 * What got her interested in being in web design? 11:51 * What made her pull the trigger to kick her corporate job? 14:00 * How did her immediate circle of influence take the news she was leaving her corporate job? 15:19 * Where did her first clients come from? 16:50 * What early hurdles did Jaime overcome in starting her business? 21:09 * What is a virtual summit? 26:08 * Why would someone host a virtual summit vs hosting their own webinar? 27:31 * What are some of the key parts to having a successful virtual summit? 28:48 * How exactly does Jaime help her clients with their virtual summits? 32:01 * How does someone find the right kind of guests for a virtual summit? 37:46 * What's Jaime looking forward to helping people with in 2017? 41:34 * Who are three influencers in Jaime's career? 44:05 * One gift she likes giving others 45:01 * What would she do tomorrow if woke up as the 10 year old version of herself with her memories intact? 46:53 * What is one thing all high school students must know? 48:59 * How can someone be a difference maker in their community? 49:54 * ... and MUCH more!  Alexis Parris: Doing What’s Important but Not Expected – How to Find the Education You Really Need (AoL 074) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 1:00:25

The world crafts us to be a certain way, there's no doubt about it. To this day, most formal education teaches us to be employees. However, there's some formal education out there that teaches to our strengths. But many times, those places are really hard to get into because of the highly custom work they do. Today's guest, Alexis Parris, worked hard enough in her craft of dancing to get into one of those schools. However, she soon learned that while she was good, if not great, at dancing, she had work to do that she really wanted to help people with. Finding their true gifts themselves. In this session, Daniel Postma and I chat with Alexis to find out more about her path, including why she left her amazing dancing career to pursue her new dreams, how she’s been able to get great mentors in her life, and what she truly believes that personal development means and why it’s so important.  “Long Jon Sparrow” Jon Boersma: Business to Arts, Arts to Business: How to Find Your New Horizon (AoL 073) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 1:10:57

For many of us creators, we do things because we have a passion for it. The question often is, how do we monetize something we enjoy doing without taking the fun out of it? Or, if we're doing it because we see it as a mission - how do we keep from tainting that mission? Like today's guest, I believe, if done right, you can take something you love to do and make a living doing it. That's why I believe in Fizzle so much. That's exactly what they teach people to do. In this session, Laila and I sit down with an entrepreneur who has taken his passion of geeking out as Jack Sparrow to another level. He gets paid to actually impersonate Jack as Long Jon Sparrow. In today's chat with Jon Boersma, we find out what inspired him to impersonate Captain Jack Sparrow, how much of his work was learned from formal education vs being self taught, and we dive a bit into how knowing about the 4 basic personalities have helped him in his career and how others can apply the same info to their lives.  Claude Errera on Halo.Bungie.Org: Build The Games You Want to Play (AoL 072) | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 55:46

For many creators, money isn't the driving force for them in their craft. They do it simply out of the joy that it brings them. It's been said that being successful is about being great at doing something, not necessarily pursuing to be great in itself. Being great is a very vague goal. In this chat with Claude Errera, we find that he built Halo.Bungie.Org (HBO) because he wanted there to be a place to discuss Halo (and to practice code for his day job as a website developer). Not because he wanted to make a profit off of all the fans of Halo. What did that plan and goal get him? Well, at it's peak, we find that HBO had over half a million visitors a day. In today's chat, JC speaks with Claude about how HBO got started, what he does as his day job, and some of the things he's learned as father of HBO which will help others build their own communities. Maybe you can apply some of his knowledge to your new business or passion project! Enjoy! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * What Claude is known as on HBO and why he chose that alias. 9:56 * Why did he want to start HBO in the first place? 12:57 * How did HBO become structured as it was and is? 15:57 * What does Claude do as an actual online entrepreneur? 18:58 * How did HBO get some successful in the first place? 24:03 * Was there ever a time where he thought he'd pass it on or have it pay for itself? 26:17 * What has been his relation with Rooster Teeth over the years since RvB first started? 30:23 * Are there any other successes that he's been able to watch grow in success? 34:51 * What are some steps that Claude would take to duplicate the success he had with HBO? 38:19 * What tactics does he employ to prevent himself from becoming a complete fan of something? 41:30 * What's he looking forward to (or not) in 2017? 44:24 * Claude's top 3 favorite books and/or movies he tells others about. 37:42 * Smallest decision he's made that has had the largest impact on his life? 47:30 Three truths he's found out over time that he'd want others to know. 48:27 * Who does he think of when thinks of the word success and why? 50:01 * What's it mean to have a life of abundance? 50:42 * ... and MUCH more! Over at Fizzle, for example, Chase and Corbett hired in Steph Crowder to help with customer support back in 2015. Steph, having worked at a few startups by that point, knew how to interact with clients on a one to one basis. It was something that Chase, who's the main creative at Fizzle, and Corbett, the business brain, didn't have the resources to do themselves. In our interview with Steph in 2016, we learned that she was expecting soon. They had to get a fill-in for her while she was on maternity leave. Today's guest, Emily Kelly, was the hero for Fizzle during that time. But, just because she was with them temporarily, doesn't mean she was bad at the position. In fact, it was part of her new role as as a virtual customer support specialist. In this interview, we find out about her journey to become a virtual assistant, what she recommends to folks coming right out of college to keep them from getting burnt out at work, and some pointers in putting emotion into writing. If you're thinking about about starting your own business, perhaps being a virtual assistant first might just be in the future for you as well. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * What kind of career did she envision as she was going to school? 8:02 * What creative influences did she have in her life growing up? 10:52 * What is like to have her dad working remotely growing up. 13:15 * When was the first time Emily had experience with entrepreneurship herself? 14:47 * What was it like to work at a startup vs where she previously worked? 18:13 * What advice would she give someone who's coming out of college so they don't get burnt out. 21:37 * Which mindset did Emily utilize while working for a startup? 27:15 * What is some advice that she'd give someone to get more emotion into their writing? 37:04 * What are some things to look for when hiring remote help? 39:28 * 3 Influencers or teachers that have helped Emily get to where she is today. 44:38 * One gift that she likes giving others. 45:17 * Something she believed as a 21 year old but doesn't now and why? 45:46 * If she could place an ad anywhere in the world cost free, what would it be and where? 46:19 * Who does Emily think of as a success and why? 48:29 * What are some ways that someone can improve their customer support? 49:53 * ... and MUCH more!
