Sandra Bellamy: How to Embrace Your Quirky to Be Your Own Authentic Self (AoL 050) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:11

Society in general teaches us to not only care what other people think, but that we have to conform to those thoughts. For many people, that's not a problem. But for us creatives it can be really hard. And often times we find ourselves asking two questions: Am I living the life that I've seen for myself? And "Who am I going to live my life for?" The answer to those two questions often times leads to the formation of one's own passion based business. In fact, that's what happened to today's guest, Sandra Bellamy. Not only did Sandra come to this realization back in 2012, but she's made it her mission to help other people figure out for themselves that they're connected to a Matrix that has no interest in their personal desires. She calls it "Embracing Your Quirky". The truth is that once we unplug, we have to start believing in ourselves and take a big leap of faith - because no one else is going to on our behalf. In this chat, we talk about how she learned to embrace her quirky, how you can do so in your daily life, and we also dive a bit into her experiences as a writer and why she believes that anyone can be a writer. It’s a practical and exceptionally helpful episode. Enjoy! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How can someone tell if they're not embracing who they are enough? 22:23 * Why she loves "the lifestyle of a teenager" to empower how she see's herself. 23:14 * How someone can "embrace their own quirky" more. 26:30 * What are some of the experiences that she's had working with others. 30:06 * Why she has a wide spread of book topics and where each one came from. 34:42 * How she's able to write so much and why she believes that anyone can be a writer. 46:39 * What she's looking forward to in the not too distant future. 51:38 * What are three thought leaders she recommends to other people the most. 54:13 * One thing that's under $100 that has changed her life. 55:15 * One gift she likes giving others. 55:50 * 3 truths that she would share with others. 56:06 * Something she believed when she was 24 but now thinks is bogus. 58:00 * When she thinks of the word success, who comes to mind and why? 1:00:31 * ... and MUCH more!  AoL 049: From Homeless in High School to Expert Enabler and Community Builder with Mellissa Rempfer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:10

There’s so many things we have to do as an entrepreneur. Either we do it ourselves or we pay someone else to do it. If you're just starting out on your path, you might not have the resources to pay for all the help you need. How do you get things done if you need help on graphics or grammar checking? Maybe you need help getting through a mental block or getting a new perspective on your business? Do you have the resources to pay for all of that? Probably not. Perhaps bartering is the answer. But where online can you do that? That's what today's guest, Mellissa Rempfer has been able to foster in her group, Brilliance and Business. In this chat, we talk about where the idea of the group came from and more about what sets it apart. We also get into how she got her start in doing big things early on, and the three instincts of the human condition and how those apply in life and business.  AoL 048: Building a Long Term Business through Relationships, Metrics, and Family with Brandon Northwick | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:44

It’s no secret that the way we run our business is based on how we approach the world. Is our business about us helping others with what we think they need help with, without hesitation, or do we see it more as a way of helping others in any way they actually need help? Meaning, we find those problems that they're actually having and help them there. To me, this latter method is, I think, how you build true relationships. Not necessarily trying to force what you do on people, but just making yourself available if they need help implementing a particular strategy or tool into their business. In this rare episode, I dig down into the nuts and bolts of how Brandon Northwick runs his business. I find out how his wife Sara functions in the business, how he uses attraction marketing to get his clients, and how he builds trust with people through that process before getting the sale. If you're having problems with closing your service based sales, then you should definitely check out this straight-talk chat. Enjoy! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Why you should careful when you using applications like Crowdfire 30:45 * How do you standardize what people pay you for your services? 34:30 * Why should people interested in their metrics and when? 36:51 * How was Brandon's wife Sara brought into the business world? 38:43 * What does Sara do in the family business? 40:19 * How does Brandon's video strategy enter into his traffic strategy? 41:24 * What you should do if you feel that your work life isn't interesting enough to make videos for your business. 43:20 * How does he generate leads from traffic? 47:09 * What's an example of a good opt-in? (The answer is not what you expect!) 49:26 * What Brandon thinks about having to build trust with a customer before they buy. 52:32 * How he uses attraction marketing to get his clients. 56:14 * What kind of people have influenced Brandon's ability to help people. 57:16 * What he's excited for in the future. 58:18 * Three truths that he would share with others. 1:00:07 * Three favorite podcasts 1:00:36 * Something he believed when he was 20 years old, but thinks is bogus now. 1:00:57 * When he thinks of success, who comes to mind? 1:02:42 * ... and MUCH more! Ginger joins me again in this one and we talk with one of her friends that she's met in her travels - Stephen Robinson. Stephen is founder of 52Skillz, a YouTube channel in where he discovers, learns, and shares a new skill weekly. He does it by one-upping people that are already out there. So, is it as easy as it sounds? Or, as we ask him in the chat: How do you stay engaged and up-to-date in your work?  AoL 046: Why Finding Your Clarity and Focus is Vital to Achieving High Performance with Clay Green | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:33:12

"Why is it that some people seem to get more done in a short period of time, where I'm effectively just treading water?" Here’s the deal — you’re a small business person. You’re the little guy. You only have so much time to do all of the things that need to get done in a given day. As I've mentioned in The 6 Cornerstones eBook, there are 6 things you have to do to be successful online. When you're doing those things regularly, you still might feel as if you're simply not moving forward as fast as you'd like. As I also mention in the book, the first thing you need to do when starting any business is to embrace your Why. I've talked about this a couple of times on the blog - it's that important. When Brendon Burchard had his infamous accident, he asked himself at the time (because he didn't know he was going to make it), if he had the opportunity to "Live, Love, and Matter." That simple question helped him find his Why. Similarly, today's guest, Clay Green, has had a similar brush with death on a motorcycle. He actually hit a deer as he was out on his motorcycle. Since that moment, he's been able to come to grips with his Why and it's because he was able to encapsulate the focus that he felt in that moment. Through his work with his clients, he helps them find that focus and clarity that so many of us struggle with - not only when we're just getting started, but also as we've been working for such a long time that we've forgotten what we're doing. In this chat, we talk about the wreck, how people can live a Charged life, and what it's like to be one of Brendon's Certified High Performance Coaches. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Why Clay believes his career in military has lead to his success today. 4:31 * How he believes that people can go from a comfortable or caged life to a charged life 14:25 * The "Deer Incident" and what he got from it. 34:19 * Why someone might actually want to have their own business. 46:15 * What Clay got out of the Deer Incident 49:05 * What's the difference between going through Brendon's High Performance Academy and becoming a Certified High Performance Coach? 54:15 * How can someone realize that they're struggling with one of the areas that Certified High Performance Coaches can help clients with? 1:00:44 * What are three thought leaders he's suggested the most to people? 1:13:10 * One book that has catapulted him to where he is today. 1:14:35 * What are three truths he's learned over time that he'd share with others. 1:15:06 * If he could say any ad on any social media, what would he say and what platform would he use? 1:18:13 * What's something he believed when he was 30 but he considers bogus now. 1:19:50 * When he thinks of the word success, who comes to mind and why? 1:20:50 * ... and MUCH more! When it comes to success, many times we think that people are lucky and that success just happens.  AoL 043: How to Place Your Knowledge on Auto-Pilot and Get Paid Repeatedly For It with Dustin W. Stout | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:32

People start businesses for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes that reason is that they see a need in the world that they can respond to. Others, like me, start a business because we see it in the future as a means to create a lifestyle that we want. The same can be said about this session's guest, Dustin W. Stout. Dustin, like many other entrepreneurs, stumbled into business. And over time, he became really good at being a consultant and helping other people with his skills. However, this was active time that he was putting in and it was taking away from time that he could be spending with his young family. In this session, we find out more about where he came from, how he became well known in social media, and also why he basically changed his business to focus on building SaaS products. If you're currently a freelancer or doing work that requires you to put in a ton of active work from project to project, perhaps Dustin's story will give you some insight in how you can build a business that gives you more freedom.  AoL 041: Authenticity Rules – How a Performing Artist Can Become a Digital Marketing Maven with Mari Sauer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:02

No matter your age, background, sex, or culture, in the United States you're free to pursue anything you want to in your career. Many people don't realize this. They believe that what they've always done or what they've always been determines their future. One of the best mainstream movies that come to mind that I recently watched the sequel to is My Big Fat Greek Wedding. In that movie, there's a ton of traditions that the main character, Toula, has to deal with as she realizes more about the life she wants to live and with whom she wants to live it with. I know my own previous thoughts of what I could be always included something "technical". I grew up loving video games, reading n0n-fiction books about astronomy, being a sci fi geek in general, and thinking about places that I could travel to - and how their cultures were different. All of these things in a small town were hard to achieve. So as I got more involved in the internet, I found myself exploring the world wide web even more. I believed that my excursion into electrical engineering would help me understand the technology that goes behind how it worked - but I don't know if I ever expected for it to be the focus of my job, in retrospect. Today, I like to believe that part of my quest with New Inceptions is helping people reconnect to that in which they loved to do in the past, or even more so, help them realize that the silly interest that they care about but no one else does, might actually be the thing that sets them free. The guest of this session is someone I believe has had a similar realization. She's a great example of someone who is discovering her new inception. She loves to help people connect with others about what they're doing through digital marketing. She also has a love of performance and, in fact, wanted to be a professional dancer as she was growing up. However, as you might know, artists generally can't make a living on their art early on in the career - so they have to pay the bills through other work. And like many struggling artist stereotypes out there, she became a waiter. Funny enough, though, she developed an interest in her work there too and soon in the rest of the world of hospitality. When I found out about her past in dance, I knew I had to have her on the show to talk about her transition to the role that she plays now. Needless to say, she's not just some kid in their 20's who just because she knows how to set up a social media account calls herself a social media guru. She's someone that uses her experience in these other fields to make her clients not only feel great about the work they're doing, but also plan it out so well that it'd be suitable for a five-star hotel. In this session with Mari Sauer, we talk about her trek through dance, hospitality, and what brought her to digital marketing. We'll also discuss why she believes why solopreneurs need to be more consistent with their social media. And we also talk about Gary Vee a bit and his interest in SnapChat. If you feel like you're stuck on an island that is closed off to opportunity to become a truer version of yourself, I hope that this talk inspires you to get out of your comfort zone of who you think you are professionally. Let's learn to reconnect to the new version of yourself! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Where her interest in pursuing a degree in dance came from. 7:06 * How Mari made Hospitality and Tourism Management a big part of her career - even though she didn't have a degree for it. 11:28 * How authenticity helped her climb in the hospitality industry - including ending up working at the Four Seasons Maui. 16:02 * How Mari ended up moving from Maui to Chicago. 18:20 * What she learned from her time a PTA President when it came to dealing...

Everyone has heard of the phrase Alpha Male. If you remember, they're the type of guy who is normally thought of as a natural athlete and/or have everything going right in life, or just have many women around them at a given time. They're a natural leader. Have you ever heard of the phrase Alpha Female? There's a good chance that you've heard that phrase too. When you think of the phrase, what kind of women come to mind? For me, I think of women in business, government, entertainment, and the military. All of them are leaders of some sort. And most of them probably don't have time to be the center of a traditional family that society teaches us is the norm. Personally, I'm married to an Alpha Female. I'm always joking with her that she's 52% girl, 48% guy. Otherwise I don't think she'd be able to have done as well in the military career as she has. Perhaps growing up with two brothers helps. But for the most part, I can joke with her like I joke with most guys - which is actually awesome. And for me, that's normal. Today's guest, I imagine has married an Alpha Female as well. In fact, as he explains in the interview, he grew up with mainly women in his house. This forced him to learn how to think like the women in his life. Today, Moe DeCarlo uses this power of his to be a translator for women and gets paid to do so as a woman's social coach. In this session, we'll be talking about what got him into coaching in the first place, how he keeps up with all the work he does, and what he got out of his recent time at this past April's Experts Academy. If you feel like you have this special trait, or something similar, and not sure how to use it, perhaps Moe can help you learn how to utilize those skills in a way that you never thought you could!  AoL 039: Overcoming Obstacles in Life, Building a Church, and Pursuing Passion in Life and Business with Brawn Lide | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:13

The road to success is often not very clear. That's one of the reasons I'm in favor of having a roadmap for your business. For many, however, even having a roadmap isn't enough. Sometimes, an entrepreneur's situation is so unique, that they simply have no idea where to begin. Or other times, the journey might be going smoothly, it's just that it isn't going fast enough for the goals that they have. For me, my major problem was getting over my paralysis by analysis. I'm glad I finally started focusing on building New Inceptions last year. I've gotten a ton of experience and I'm definitely looking to ever larger opportunities. For this session's guest, however, even though things seem to have been going his way, he didn't have a very long runway. In fact, when he first started his coaching business, he was mainly going on Faith that things would work out. Besides paying for his coaching training with his tax return that could have been used elsewhere (like supporting his 5 kids), he also committed to a mentorship program that almost cost nearly as much as the training itself. When I met Brawn as my roommate at the John Maxwell Team training event, he would tell you that he was "hurtin'". A big reason for that was that he had been a full time church planter for a couple of years at that time. What income he did have was coming from being involved as a math teacher for homeschooled kids. Through all of this (and a little more), he's been able to persevere and is now not only a full time JMT coach, speaker, and trainer, but a successful one. In this session, we'll learn why he left his stable job as a mechanical engineer to become the church planter, how he was able to grow that church from 23 to 350 members, and why he took a sales job during the time that he was building his coaching business. If you or someone you know thinks life might be too complex to leave their comfort zone, I'd strongly urge you to listen to this chat. Brawn's story is truly inspirational and is probably one of the best stories that I've heard thus far about overcoming obstacles in life. I'd especially listen if you need that extra kick in the pants to leave your comfort zone or you need help being honestly truthful with where you are in life. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How Brawn decided that he was going to go from a stable income as a Mechanical Engineer to being a church planter. (7:20) * What kind of struggles he had when he was trying to shed his label of Engineer (13:27) * How Brawn was able to be a full time volunteer for four years of his life with a family by helping with home school teaching. (17:48) * How he was able to help grow his church attendance from 23 to 350. (22:12) * What the John Maxwell Team, and JMT Mentorship program has meant to Brawn. (25:07) * What Brawn would tell someone if they found themselves having to suddenly lead from a position where they never saw themselves in. (31:43) * Why he went into sales when he wasn’t able to achieve his financial goals with his coaching business. (37:01) * How he was able to focus on his sales job, his business, and his family during this period in his career. (42:26) * What were some keys that lead to his success in speaking and coaching (44:35) * How Brawn was able to build his business outside of networking. (47:31) * What he likes the most about being a professional speaker and coach (51:58) * What are projects he sees himself doing in the next 5 years. (55:39) * If he had money to buy commercial space on TV, what would the message be? (1:01:06) * What purchase of $100 or less has most affected his life? (1:01:50) * What are 3 truths he'd want to share with others (1:03:00)

AoL 038: Yoga, How to Measure Creativity, and Being a Better Human with David Rachford | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:29

Being in business for yourself has many different labels. Solopreneur, Expert, Entrepreneur... the list goes on. Many times we've found out that these particular names might not necessarily mean anything other than you have a passion for what you do and you happen to make income doing it. Most of us go the long way of doing that. Going to school for one thing and then making our business from something else. I frequently ask myself, could I have learned what I know today about online business without going to school? Would I have been able to help people they way I do today? While I think that I might have been able to shortcut the process, the truth of the matter is simply this: I wouldn't have the experience to be able to help people at the LEVEL that I help people today. The same goes for today's guest, David Rachford. David started his career in the military after being an athlete for years in several sports. After getting out of the military, he went to college to become an accountant. Growing tired of that world in 10 years, he found himself at a position that he could do something that utilized those accounting skills, but at the same time, he didn't want to make that his whole career. That's where his interest in teaching others about Yoga and starting the Better Human Show came from. In this session, we'll learn exactly how a kid who was too husky to be in youth football started playing all kinds of sports, How his yoga journey started, how he "measures creativity", and why he started doing his podcast. Listen to this episode if you've ever found yourself bouncing from one thing in your career to the next, thinking about starting a business, or you're simply curious in what it takes to sit with "strong determination" like monks do in meditation.   SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * What kind of sports David played growing up despite being too big to play football. (10:04) * How David got into Meditation, Yoga, and eventually learned how to sit in “strong determination”. (13:48) * David’s advice to someone who says they get migraines when meditating. (20:42) * Why he left the accounting world after doing it for 10 years. (22:50) * How Dave measures creativity. (26:22) * Why Dave focuses on established entrepreneurs for his ideal clients (29:00) * How the Better Human show came into being. (34:38) * Which talks on his podcast have stuck in his mind the most. (38:18) * What’s an occurring theme that he’s gotten from his guests. (42:20) * David’s thoughts on falling back on a safe job (45:07) * What purchase $100 or less has most affected David’s life. (50:43) * What are three truths that he wants to share with others (53:10) * Who are David’s three favorite teachers (56:55) * What Dave recommends in spreading your message into the world (1:03:34) * … and MUCH more!  AoL 037: Writing at the Jack Kerouac House, Branding Yourself, and Early Social Media Marketing with Erik Deckers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:26

When people get to a certain level of success, it's really hard to leave it behind. It takes so much time and resources to get to a certain level. That's one reason why many professional athletes find it really hard to leave the game they've known since they were a kid. They're not sure about what's coming next and that can be very difficult. For me, when I left academia and started figuring out what I wanted to do, I didn't know where to start. The one thing I did know is that I had to put myself where opportunity would find me. So I started networking - A LOT - in Indianapolis. Getting to know many people that would ultimately have success themselves. Also getting to know people who would crash and burn and start rebuilding, or in some cases, give up on their passion altogether. One of many people I met was Erik Deckers. I have to say that when I first met Erik, I thought that he'd be a good guy to get to know as we connected on a ton of things. Like me, he's somewhat of a natural creative. He loves to write... and type (he has a collection of typewriters). And he's able to help other companies do that through his online business: ProBlogService.com. Which he's essentially a online ghost writer for other businesses. Needless to say that that particular service and him networking got him well known in Indy. Of course, it didn't hurt that he wrote a few books with some prominent figures when he was here as well. Anyway, fast forward a couple of years, I find myself back in Indy looking to reconnect with some folks that I knew from 2010. And I find that Erik is down in Orlando, FL! Having to essentially use the information he put into one of this books all over again.   In this session, we'll learn more about the move to Orlando. We'll also find out how he got into writing in the first place, how several of his books were conceived, and his thoughts on what the best ways are for people to be found on today's internet. If you've ever found yourself having to restart your career from scratch, you're simply curious about what it's like to write in the Kerouac House and what it's all about, or just want to catch up with Erik, then you should get something out of this chat.   SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * More about the Jack Kerouac House (6:41) * How the Jack Kerouac House has changed the scene of the Orlando literary scene. (13:00) * How Erik got into writing (13:25) * How his writing process is different than others (15:06) * Why formats can play a big role in how you deliver your message. (16:13) * How engineering is very similar to building a business (20:16) * How one of the first big Twitter marketing books was created (21:57) * How Erik played a vital role in helping Kyle Lacy meet his eventual wife, Rachel. (24:41) * Where the idea for Erik and Kyle's book, Branding Yourself, came from. (25:52) * Why Erik likes to work with others when making books. (26:57) * What book he's been working on at the Kerouac House (29:20) * Where Pro Blog Service came from (31:59) * What Erik helps clients of his with (34:01). * How people can become known on today's internet (38:43). * How Erik got involved in speaking at a TEDx event (45:22) * Where Erik gets his passion for speaking (46:32) * Who he thinks would be best suited to fight off a college sorority if they ever wanted to take over the world. (55:39) * Who Erik would consider an example of success in his life. (1:01:42) * What are some thoughts on starting a content based business (1:05:35) * …and MUCH more.

AoL 036: Going from Good to Great in Business Coaching with Stephan Seyfert | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:22:47

When people think of the labels consultant, coach, or teacher, they often think of the same type of person. Someone that instructs and helps others. However, each one of these labels are actually different than one another. The consultant uses their skill set to help their client. The coach helps bring the client to a solution by asking the right questions. While the teacher uses both skills to help their students learn and apply what's being taught in the classroom. As far back as I can remember, I've always found myself being all three in one way or another. I've been the tech person when it comes to helping friends and family with their computers. I've always been the listening ear when people are trying to fix a problem in their life - helping them with problems they might not see right in front of them. And I have that uncanny ability to be able to mix the two and teach complex topics. Hence why I taught algebra for a couple of years. I was quite amazed when I found out that each is it's own separate skill. For today's guest, coaching has been something that he's been utilizing for sometime as well. In fact, you'll find out that when he started coaching people professionally, he was simply relaying information that he essentially had just learned in his classes in college. However, he found that he had a passion for it and he's made it his full time career. In this session, we'll learn how he got into coaching in the first place. How it's helped him along in his career. What he learned from the John Maxwell Team that sets him apart from other coaches, and how he specifically helps business go from Good to Great. If you've wanted to find out how you might be able to become a professional business coach, then this might give you a couple of ideas in how you can get started down that career path. If you're in need of a coach, then Stephan might be a great solution for you! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Why Stephan's formal education track wasn't so different than most. (9:03) * How he got introduced to entrepreneurship (12:53) * When he felt that it was time to go separate ways with his first business partner from college (17:29) * How he was able to get his first clients while he was still a student (22:41) * How the John Maxwell Team has helped his business (28:27) * How John Warrillow has inspired the new version of his business (31:06) * Stephan's 2 additional Value Drivers (beyond John Warrillow's first 8) (33:50) * Why it's important to intentionally develop a company's culture (35:04) * Upcoming movies we're excited about (40:23) * Why he likes working with groups as well as individuals (42:29) * How he currently meets his potential clients (46:25) * How his current career aligns with his "Why" (52:05) * Why Apple shows how its important to have a definitive "Why".
