AoL 035: A Mission of Exploration – How Daniel Postma Became a Serial Entrepreneur by Age 20 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:23

The current education system is broken. It's hard to deny it. With college professors suggesting that students aren't ready for college, and employers saying that graduates aren't ready for the real world, there's really too much evidence that something has to be done. For me personally, I did what I was supposed to do. Go to school. Get good grades. Graduate. What didn't happen for me was the "Get a Good Job" part. I would say that it's partly my fault. By the time I was finally looking for a job, I wasn't really interested in being another cog in the machine. In fact, I knew that I wanted to work at a startup. However, most startups that I spoke with seemed like they were fish out of water. They approached entrepreneurship like a job. They didn't have much of a reason why that they were doing it. They just knew that they were good at what they did. Maybe it was because it's what they did before the recession of 2008. Maybe it's because they thought they could make more money on their own. Whatever the reason was, it didn't seem to be working. I think a big part of that was that the school system that most of us have grown up with program us to be followers. However, we need new leaders more so than ever. Be it in government or in the private sector. One way to get there currently is to homeschool students. Another way is to be mentored by people that are already leading. Today's guest, Daniel Postma has done both. Which means he's well on his way to be one of tomorrow's leaders.   In this session, we'll learn all about homeschooling and find out how he was able to acquire the mentorship he's had in his life. We'll see what his time as an of apprentice of Dane Maxwell did for him. And we'll also discuss how he got into the business of medical massage therapy.   If you're interested to know more about homeschooling, experiential learning, or simply need some guidance in what you should do after you graduate, I think you'll get a lot out of this conversation. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How being homeschooled has been a big help in who he is today. (9:07) * What homeschooling looks like from the inside. (10:51) * Why his parents opted for homeschooling him. (14:47) * How he believes homeschooling prepares students. (16:37) * Why Daniel chose not to go to college. (22:57) * What's his thoughts on different kinds of education (25:17) * What kind of mentorship he's had in his life (30:01) * His experience as Dane Maxwell's apprentice for a month (34:11) * When Daniel knew he wanted to start his first business (39:59) * Why Daniel enrolled in The Foundation even though at that point it was icing on the cake (41:54) * How he'd reach out to others to get out of their comfort zone (43:56) * How he got into Medical Massage Therapy (46:48) * How his family has been able to help him with business (44:55) * Why Daniel's superpower is being able to utilize everyone's strengths in his life (52:35) * What he'd tell the younger versions of himself.  Fizzle’s Steph Crowder on Deadlines, Life Changes, & Learning on the Job at Fizzle.co (AoL 034) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:50

Learning how to do online business can be tough. Especially with all the sources that are out there. So that's why it's important to trust the sources you learn from and stick with them. You guys know that I have certain people that I learn from. Two of which are SPI and Fizzle. With SPI, Pat has always had more of a global way of approaching the content that he'll talk about in a given week and month. In fact, until his book Will It Fly?, he was kind of all over the board. That's kind of the way I learned - heck, that's probably how he learned from the sources that he got his knowledge from. Several years back, Corbett Barr and Chase Reeves wanted to help that issue, so they created an online school of sorts called Fizzle. Fizzle is very logical. First off, everything is one place. And they're structuring it based on a Roadmap. If I were to guess, I would say that in the early days that Corbett came up with the content, and Chase, being the lead creative, thought of how to make that information learnable. Later, Barrett Brooks joined the team with his knowledge of business development. And just last year, today's guest, Steph Crowder came on to take care of what Barrett was in charge of when he first came on - community and member success. Over the past year, Steph has earned her spot not only in the all male group, but on the Fizzle podcast as well. In this session, we'll be learning about Fizzle, we discuss how Steph got the chance to work at Groupon when it was still a small company and why she feels that working at Fizzle is a good fit for her. We also discuss how she feels about being the Den Momma of the community and we also get a little into why she likes working remotely. If you're interested to know more about Fizzle, how it can help you, and how it's helped Steph, then this is an episode you can't miss out on! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How she got herself started in sales. * How she found herself at Groupon. * What she loved about her experience at Groupon. * How Pat Flynn played a role in her professional development. * Why she believes her job with Fizzle is a great fit for her. * Why she has to explain to people on a regular basis about what she does. * Why she felt she wanted to apply for the Member Success Specialist position. * What Fizzle is in her own words. * Why not everyone is meant to be an entrepreneur/intrapreneur. * How she feels about being the Den Momma at Fizzle. * What people have to say about Fizzle as members. * Why Steph likes remote work vs the experience that she had at Groupon. * How she sees her life changing as a new mom. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 033: Building a Successful Martial Arts Academy with AJ Clingerman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:59

As we have found out, passion filled work comes in many forms. Just last week, we saw how David Picciuto helps others learn about woodworking online. He gets to utilize his past interests in art and design to aid in getting his new found passion of woodworking out into the world. For me, I've recently come to realize that I love teaching, connecting people and ideas, tech, and entrepreneurship. These are topics that I'm constantly learning more about when I can. They are what I naturally gravitate towards. Likewise, this session's guest, AJ Clingerman, always knew that she wanted to have her own studio. While originally it was a dance studio, she was open to the idea of starting the Indiana Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy with her husband when she realized how deep his love of the martial art was. In my opinion, they have a heck of a story and team going on. Able to capitalize on what they both do well. She does business, he focuses on training and training others. In this session, we'll get to know half of this partnership. Particularly we discuss with AJ what James told her about BJJ when they first started dating, where the idea of the academy came from, growing pains that she and James have held to deal with while growing the business, what experience she's obtained from working with people like Scott Manning and Dan Kennedy, and where the idea for her two books came from. If you're interested in starting a athletic training academy, or simply want to expand online what you're already doing, then I think you'll get a ton out of this talk. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How AJ got into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the first place. * How long AJ has envisioned herself running a business. * Why she chose not to pursue a college degree. * Where the idea for INDY EGO (Extreme Grappling Open) came from. * Where the idea for the Indiana Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy came from. * What kind of growing pains they had to go through when starting a business knowing little about actually running a business. * Where the idea for Indy Business Success came from and how this initiative is helping business owners around Indianapolis. * How she won Dan Kennedy's Marketer of the Year award. * One thing you should definitely consider when starting a business based YouTube Channel. * What gave AJ the idea to write her books. * What she thinks about women in men's fields - especially in martial arts. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 032: Making It as a Full-Time Online Woodworker with David Picciuto | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:55

There are multiple ways to make money online. Most people know of information entrepreneurs. These are your Thought Leaders, your Teachers, and your Mediapreneurs. Others might think of software makers - called engineers. Or even more, you might think of someone who has a store and sells other's items - these are Retailers. These are all part of the 10 Archetypes. One type that I didn't know too much about was The Maker. How does someone that makes a living producing crafts get online besides selling their physical goods online? That's where today's guest, David Picciuto, has been able to make the connection. He makes YouTube videos showing how to make stuff! Rather fascinating guy that I'm glad I got to know more about him and his craft. In this chat, we go into how he got into woodworking as an online business, explore his successful YouTube channel and podcast, and why he believes it's necessary to diversify your brand online. If you love working with your hands and have been wondering what might be a good idea for an online business, this talk is just for you. (If you're like me and have other ideas, you'll get plenty out of this talk too. David is actually a lot like many of us when he first began!!) SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How David stumbled into woodworking as a business. * Where his creative flair came from. * One way to get through the imposter's syndrome. * When he realized he had to "grow up" and get something other than a job at Target. * How he knew it was time to strike it out on his own from a great job as a developer/designer. * How he makes an income doing YouTube videos. * Why he changed the name of his business from Drunken Woodworker to MakeSomething.TV. * What lead David to write his Bandsaw Box book. * What David does with all the products he makes on his show. * Why it's important to diversify your brand online. * How and why he has such nice looking videos. * How the podcast ended up coming together. * What he is or is not looking forward to in the future! * …and MUCH more.  AoL 031: Entrepreneurial skill development, Intrapreneurship, and the Importance of True Passion with Dr. Brian Glassman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:01

Most people, I'd believe, really want to live a life that they're proud of and do work that fuels their fire. The lucky ones have jobs that give them this work. They feel as if they're really good at whatever is they do AND they love it! However, a lot of people simply don't have that opportunity. So they continue to work in a job they do simply because it pays the bills. If they have money coming in, they get by. To me, I feel that I might as well be in a jail if I was doing a job I didn't love doing for 8+ hours a day. Having to get up day after day and be a cog in someone else's machine that I probably don't even know? I couldn't do it! I think that's one reason that I knew that entrepreneurship was going to be my future and that's why I opted to get it as my focus in grad school. While I was there, I met this session's guest, Dr. Brian Glassman. Brian is one interesting and traveled guy. At the time that I had met him, he was working on his doctorate, but already had plenty of grad school under his belt. What really struck me back then, and continues to this day is that he usually has a different perspective on everything. Just when I thought I had all these definitions defined about how the world works, he hits me with a new view of what Intrapreneurship is and how one can use it to step into a role at a larger company. In other words, working your way across into a job you love, instead of starting it all from scratch. In this discussion, we also talk further about Entrepreneurship vs Intrapreneurship, why it’s important to stay focused when you’re set on becoming an entrepreneur, why Brian decided to go the Intrapreneur route, and we even talk a bit about work life balance. If you’re the type of person who thinks like an entrepreneur, but doesn’t want to have limited resources when starting out, than perhaps being an Intrapreneur might be a path you might consider after hearing our chat. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * The difference between Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship. * What Brian's learned from his Entrepreneurial students regarding what kind of skills budding entrepreneurs need. * Why it's important to stay focused when picking up entrepreneurial skills. * What a college graduate should consider upon graduating when it comes to starting a business or finding a job. * What the transition was like to go from academia to working as Intrapreneur. * How you can learn a new skill set outside of academia, even if you're working inside a corporation day after day. * Why Brian decided to become an Intrapreneur instead of an Entrepreneur (at least for right now!) * Why it's important to care more about working smart and working in your passion area - especially when it comes to work-life balance. * Why routines and habits are so important in life. * Why people skills are much more important in the long run than simply being smart. * What the three types of entrepreneurs are. * Why Sam Walton is Brian's example of success. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 030: The Importance of Having the Mind of an Entrepreneur with Joe Albano | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:12

The economy changed as we knew it in 2008 after the recession hit. It made jobs much harder to find. No longer was just a resume going to cut it - especially if you wanted a job that paid more than minimum wage. 2008 was also the year that Pat Flynn lost his job and started his long journey to making SPI what it is today. Personally, I'm glad that he made that decision because without him, there would be one less voice out there promoting entrepreneurship - especially lifestyle entrepreneurship and passive income. I graduated grad school a year later in 2009. The only jobs I knew at the time were internships and teaching in grad school. That's why, when I got out, I was sort of lost. I knew I what I didn't want (to be in a large corporation or a dead end job), but I wasn't quite sure what I wanted. It eventually occurred to me within a month or so after graduation that I wanted to get my career started with a startup because I had gotten my focus in Entrepreneurship. That eventually happened (a couple of times) and now I'm finally doing what I went to grad school for! :) However, not everyone can make that transition as easy as many of us millennials can. There are some people that are still struggling with making the transition from the plan they had before the recession. Some lost all their retirement and are forced to do menial jobs to get by. Others have just kept pushing along in a job that might no longer be providing for them at a level they were used to. Even I questioned what was going through people's heads when they couldn't see the writing on the wall when I started networking in late 2009 and early 2010. Why not just start their own thing instead of waiting for someone to give them something better? That's also what this session's guest, Dr. Joe Albano, thought when he started running into people who were trying to run a business with the thought process of an employee. They were waiting for their business to be given to them. Long story short, he ended up switching the focus of working with large businesses to small and medium sized ones just because he knew how much of an impact he and his company could make if he helped from the ground up. In this discussion, we chat about that passion about working with small businesses, what it takes to make a successful startup, what's the difference between an employee mindset and entrepreneurial one, and why new entrepreneurs don't need advice as much as they need support. If you’re the type of entrepreneur who’s struggling to find success with your business, or just want to know why your peers don’t understand why you’d want to pursue a business in the first place, I think that this chat will help you straighten a few things out. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How Joe's older brother played an influence in Joe being interested in starting his own business. * Why he feels that, as a Baby Boomer, it was a good decision to embrace entrepreneurship early in his career. * Why he made the transition from working with big companies to working with small to medium sized businesses. * Why he loves helping people look more at the human side of companies vs the management side. * What Joe's definition of an entrepreneur really is. * Why he believes that the employee mindset no longer works in today's world. * What's the first steps he recommends for your new startup. * What Joe suggests to those who are running out of time to do all the different jobs to get their business started. * Why he believes that many new entrepreneurs need less advice and more support. * What Joe's capacity is when working with college students. * An update in what happened career-wise to one of our early hosts, Jonathan Ridge.

AoL 029: How to Make Your Website Work for You! with Jon Thompson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:56

When doing business in today's world, one of the basic things that we have to have is a website. It's the central hub to all of our social media and it's where we own EVERYTHING that's on it. It's not rented space (meaning that if we have content elsewhere, if that company were to ever break ties with us or that they just bellied up, we would lose our business from there). When you have your own site, you protect yourself from these issues. However, once you have that website up, there's always going to be all kinds of maintenance that you have to do to keep it relevant. One of the easiest ways to drive Search Engines to your site is to produce content on a regular basis (just like this!). Other things that you can do include SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing - if you've never heard of SEM, you might have heard of backlinking which is part of it.) Like many people who do online marketing for a living, I know a thing or two about making websites. Once you do it once or twice and you're used to running your site, then you can help others get there. However, that's really just scratching the surface. There's so much more that goes into having a successful website, it's not even funny. This session's guest has made helping people do all those other things that make a successful website his business. From getting one up from scratch to helping simply with SEO and SEM, Jon has his clients covered. Working in an efficient, transparent, and very communication centric manner, he doesn't try to sell people and small companies a one size fits all solution. He's all about customer service. Which in the online world can be somewhat rare - especially since a lot of hosting companies are moving towards easy one size for everyone solution methods. In this particular chat with Jon, we discuss how he lined himself up for success, why you should be aware of what SEO and SEM are, the importance of knowing keywords when creating your website, and why he believes customer service is so important - today more than ever. We also touch on how he got into the work he does and what kind of clients he likes to have. Whether you're looking to get your website noticed in an ocean of websites, or you're simply thinking about being a freelancer that does similar things, this is a good talk for you. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Why VeerDigital's service description is somewhat vague. * How he lined himself up for success in the field that he eventually started a business in. * Why he believes that people need to stick with their strengths with anything that they do. * What he got out of his first experience in a startup. * How mentors have set him up for success. * What SEO and SEM are and why it's important to know what they are and how they work. * Why you should still have your own website. * The importance of knowing keywords when creating your website (and maintaining it in the future). * Why customer service is so important today. * Why it's important for service providers to be highly transparent and be proactive with their clients. * What kind of quality Jon looks for in the clients that he chooses to work with. * Where Jon's drop shipping company came from. * Where Jon sees his business being in a few years. * …and MUCH more.  Zephan Blaxberg: Re-Scripting Your Life Through a Year of Purpose (AoL 028) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:48

They say that your life can change by simply meeting one person. That new person can connect you to world that you only dreamed of living in. For some people, it might be landing that awesome job at a Fortune 500 company. For others, it might be finding a coach that will push them to excel and do more in life. Yet for others, it might just be that first client that will not only be a future raving fan but might actually be a mentor for years to come. I think about that last one quite a bit. Not necessarily because I'm looking to find a mentor. No, I have my own. Actually, I think about it because I want to help others succeed. So much has been given to me that I want to pass that power on to others. This session's guest, Zeph Blaxberg, knows all about this feeling. He, too, had a mentor that broke him out of mental jail. Working at an Apple Store as a fan of Apple's... sure, that might sound like a great opportunity. However, when approached by his first client, he was quickly transformed to someone that was unemployable. Like me, he wants to give back to others. He wants to help people break free of their every day lifestyle and live the life they could only dream of. He does this through multiple platforms including, but limited to, his podcast, a book, and an inner city social program that he helps with regularly. Recently he was a guest on Pat Flynn's podcast as someone that is indeed going places. So much so, that he inspired Pat to place an image of him on one of his keynote speeches. In this chat between Laila, JC, and Zeph, we learn about his experience being featured on Pat's podcast, his book and where the idea of it came from, his thoughts on the "fad of entrepreneurship", and the success he had after hiring a business coach. If you ever have felt that you want and deserve a better life, maybe you just haven't met that one person - or people - yet. We hope our chat today can help you re-script your life.   SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Where his unusual name comes from. * What his high school experience was like and how he received double credit for it. * What the SPI podcast meant to Zephan when he first heard it. * What he's realized about Pat after meeting him in person. * What it was like to have an impact on Pat. * When he felt like he had "arrived". * When he hired his business coach and what that did for him and his success. * What his current work is focused on. * When he knew it was time for him to write a book. * How the launch for the book went and what he learned from the whole experience. * What Zephan believes makes his podcast successful. * The secret to getting busy guests on your podcast. * Why he does the podcast the way he does. * His thoughts on the "fad of entrepreneurship". * …and MUCH more.  AoL 027: The Process of Reinventing Yourself and Your Business with Theresa French | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:10:57

Sometimes, things just don't work out, in life or in our businesses, the way we expect them to. Whether or not we really wanted to succeed simply does not compute at times. And it's those times that we find ourselves having to quit the path we were on. Sometimes this can be really hard. Especially since most of us are taught from an early age that we're not allowed to quit something. (Which, I talked about how to quit without regret in a recent blog post.) When you do finally quit something, though, whether planned or not, you'll be starting something again soon. Whether it's a new job, a new career, or a new business, there's a process of reinvention. For me, 2015 was all about reinvention. I had to figure out what I was good at and then I had to choose a business that fit my interests, what I liked to do, and even more importantly, how I wanted to make income. This session's guest knows more about reinvention than she probably guessed she would during her college years. While she always had the makings of an entrepreneur, it was only recently that she felt that what she did was truly an extension of her inner self. Sure, she was good at other things, but that didn't necessarily mean that it was her passion. Today, Theresa French finds herself loving to work with people in training environments. Helping them be more successful in their work as well as their lives. In the chat, we specifically talk about where her perseverance comes from, how she got into photography, how she eventually transitioned into speaking and training, and one important thing you need to do before you transition from one job or career to another. If you have ever felt like you’re lost when building that new business or are simply tired with what you’re doing now, then you can learn a thing or two from what she’s gone through. Reinvention is definitely a process that we all have to go through from time to time. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * Where her business ownership inspiration came from. * Why she still went to college. * How she got into her first business after school. * How she was able to take advantage of multiples niches in that business. * Why many of us don't like to see ourselves in pictures and/or videos. * What she learned when she had to hang up the keys on her first business. * How she eventually started her marketing firm and where FocusWorks Consulting came from. * The ONE thing that Theresa wants everyone to take away from this talk. * The path to how she got into graphic design. * The one important thing you need to do before you transition from one job (or career) to another. * How she plans on doing more speaking and training in 2016. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 026: Crushing Graphic Design like a GirlBoss with Sharlotte Bouniol | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:42

Many entrepreneurs start out as freelancers. They might call themselves consultants, but they're really freelancers. The difference, we learned in session 17 with Frank Forte, was that consultants are contracted for a much longer time. Maybe a year plus. Whereas a freelancer works per the project. Either way, your services are for sale, and you live and die by each individual project. Needless to say, you better have a natural gift or passion for what you're going to be helping with. Otherwise you're going to grow tired of the hustle to do jobs you don't like doing really quick. For me, the time that I spent at AMS you could have considered me a consultant. The IRS labeled me a contractor, but I definitely helped build the business... and continue to do so in different ways. Just today I was asked to take a look at something on the back end of the website and see if I could do something about it! If you're a freelancer, I'm sure you understand that feeling. Today's guest is someone that has a huge passion in what she does. In her past life, she's been in various marketing positions including a Chief Marketing Officer. Eventually, though, she realized she liked helping Beach Body coaches with their branding. Word got out about her work, enough so that eventually she left the executive position to pursue her interest in branding and marketing. In this session's chat with Sharlotte Bouniol, we talk about a number of things including: how she became an intern for the Nielsen company, how she got a job at the #1 State Farm Agency in the US, why she started GirlBoss Graphix, and what inspires her creatively. If you're serious about becoming a freelancer, I think you'll get a lot of inspiration from this chat. In reality it's all about leveraging who you know so you can get referrals to do more work. Start in a niche, like Sharlotte, then work your way out! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How Sharlotte got into marketing. * How she became an intern for the Nielsen Company. * Why she sees the world differently after the experience there. * How she got a job at the #1 State Farm Agency in the US. * The difference between niche marketing and niche product design. * Why she finally started GirlBoss Graphix. * How she actually gets paid for the work she does. * How she was able to say goodbye to her last job and boss. * Why she chose to build an online business vs being a "brick and mortar" agency. * What inspires her creativity. * Why she believes that personal development is important. * Where her passion for helping special needs kids came from. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 025: Exploring the Hidden Truth of Vibrant Health with David Sandstrom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:20

When it comes to our health, Americans are a fickle bunch. Some of us are very into it, and others, like I was, simply don't even know where to start. For me personally, health was never a big focus of mine growing up. I only went to a doctor when I was on death's door. However, my mom, would go all the time. The more she went, however, the more they'd give her meds to deal with whatever issue she was dealing with at the time. I swear, by the time she passed suddenly in 2010, she probably was downing 8 pills daily? I'm sure you know someone like that. Today, I still don't go to the doctor regularly. Opting instead to treat myself for any ailments and hoping that I'm eating correctly. For one, I simply don't want the possibility of them just covering up symptoms of underlying issue. For my mom, they could have simply said, "stop eating sugar" and/or "here are some alternate ideas". Instead they decided that giving her (and many other Baby Boomers) a pill concoction will be much more welcome. Secondly, most of the nutrition advice that I see others taking today still says that carbs are ok to eat, sugar is ok in moderation, and that fat is bad. Personally, I don't subscribe to that info. Today's guest is someone that can shine a ton of light on this issue. During the day, David is flying for a major airlines. However, when it's time to put on his other hat as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, you can see him making a major push to get out the knowledge he has in preventing ailments. In this session's interview with David, we talk about his passion in holistic health,  how he got into it, what his thought are some of the more popular diets out there, and how someone can embrace holistic health into their lifestyle. If you're serious about improving your health and not going through the same treatment that many of our parents and grandparents have gone through, then this chat with David should really benefit you. If you get a lot out of it, be sure to share it with others you care about! SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How a pilot with an MBA got into Holistic Health. * Why he has a huge passion for holistic health and teaching others about it. * How holistic health differs and compliments traditional western medicine. * How cholesterol actually helps in the healing process. * What actually causes heart disease. * Why people get addicted to carbs. * His thoughts on the paleo diet, ketosis, and the book The China Study. * How someone can embrace holistic health into their lifestyle. * What 3 questions you should ask yourself when seeking to improve your health. * What your choice of words on social media says about your future health. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 024: Unlocking the Secrets of Success to Drop Shipping and uDemy with Matt Bernstein | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:37

Online business comes in many forms. In fact, I've mentioned that there are 10 archetypes that people can utilize to do online business. One of the types that I've had an interest in, and one that I think has a relatively low entry cost, is the Retail archetype. In session 13, our guests, Dennis and Claudia Haddix, talked about the lifestyle that their eCommerce business provided for them. But we didn't really get into how they do things. Heck, I didn't even know until a few weeks ago when Dennis mentioned that he drop ships in our eCommerce meeting here in Indy. Interestingly enough, I soon became a member of the Smart Passive Income Community on Facebook and bumped into today's guest who has taught over 50,000 students on uDemy in various subjects, including drop shipping! Nice!! So, we got to talking and eventually, I learned that he was starting his own course platform called Skillhance. Today's guest, Matt Bernstein, is a wealth of information when it comes to building various types of businesses. Like Gary Vee, he started with baseball cards, and has worked his way up to where he is today. In our today's chat, we talk about how he became an entrepreneur at a young age, how the book 4 Hour Work Week changed his perspective on what and how he sold online, and how he transitioned to uDemy and how he’s managed his success on that platform. Make sure you listen to today's session ready to take notes as a lot of tactics will be dropped. Also, stay tuned to the New Inceptions' Resource Page in the future as I'll be linking any of Matt's courses that I think would add value to you guys. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How he started his first business. * Some of the first items he sold on eBay. * One the key things he got out of the 4 Hour Work Week. * How he got into drop shipping and how it works. * Some of the things to avoid when you're working with sourcing from manufacturers. * Why Matt did drop shipping vs using Amazon and, particularly, FBA. * How he got banned from eBay. * Why he started doing course on uDemy. * How to use uDemy as a funnel to your main platform. * Types of courses he has on uDemy. * A brief overview of he makes a course. * How he uses social media platforms, including YouTube, Blab, and Instagram. * How to create content for each of those platforms. . * …and MUCH more.  AoL 023: Recognizing the Delusion of Passion: Helping Millennials find True Personal Freedom with Mark Nathan | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:04

"Being financially free. What a goal. Man, if we could only be financially free, we wouldn't have to work!" Has said many a millennial entrepreneur as they set out on their first business. I know that was the case for me when I first fell into entrepreneurship. Just like, I'm sure, anyone else that has read Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Those of us who have read Robert Kiyosaki's work knows that ideally we want to have as many passive income streams as we can. In fact, he says that one of the easiest ways to build passive income is get started with a direct sales company or MLM. So, in 2006, that's what I did. Shortly there after, I met a guy who was quickly rising in the ranks of success in my group. Someone that inspired me quite a bit to leave the shell of an engineer behind. That someone was this session's guest, Mark Nathan. Mark has been financially free since 2009 and has worked his tail off to get there. Over the years, the speeches that I have seen him do and the videos that I have seen him in have made me realize that doing what he's done is possible... and that anyone can do what he's done. Like Pat Flynn, he's a very relatable guy and a teacher at heart. But he won't back away from giving you some tough love. Recently, Mark has been using his financial freedom to help other startups in the Chicago area get off the ground. And I assume, that one of the things he's realized is that a lot of us Millennials think that what we want is going to come easy to us. (I mean, why wouldn't it? So many of us have only ever had to be in school... and that was relatively a cake walk!) Well, that reason is why a lot of us fail at projects we set out to do. We simply don't realize all the hardships that we're going to face to achieve what we want to achieve. So, to help us get the right state of mind of what it takes to succeed, he and his co-author, David Anderson, wrote their first book: The Delusion of Passion - Why Millennials Struggle to Find Success. Who better to give us struggling Millennials a little tough love than a fellow Millennial who's reached the Summit? In today's talk, Laila and I talk with Mark about his ups and downs in business, what being financially free means to him, and what he and his wife do with their "extra" time. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * What he learned about business early in his career during his time at Loyola. * What Mark and his wife do with their freedom (including getting on Family Feud). * His experiences in theatre, including starting a film festival. * His thoughts on developing a direct sales/MLM business and how to build one successfully. * What Financial Freedom means to him. * Where the idea for his book came from. * Some of the way's he's "embraced the suck" to get to where he's at. * What mentorship has meant to him over his career. * How to make reliable partners out of followers. * …and MUCH more.  Myke Macapinlac: Helping Shy Guys Succeed in Life via Social Confidence Mastery (AoL 022) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:54

Being anxious is part of life. And, as we all know, it can be a problem. Ask anyone who's ever tried to give a speech. Stage fright is definitely a thing. The question is whether you let it control you, or you use it to boost your ability to connect with someone. Likewise, when we're dating and meeting new people, anxiety has that ability to get in our heads. What if those people don't like me? What if I don't come across as my true self? What if my true self is too weird? What if... what if... what if? There's many ways to deal with this anxiety. Many of us learn how to cope with it early in life when making friends. Others, tend to avoid it. Those that tend to avoid it... we say that they're shy. Kids (especially teenagers) don't want to stick out. In their mind, being part of the herd is part of what it is to be popular. If you don't fit in, then you're going to be ridiculed for being the odd one out. When I was growing up, I didn't fit into any one group. Being the biggest kid in my class AND being a geek, I kinda stuck out. Needless to say, I was picked on quite a bit. That stuff sticks with you and can have a great affect on who you are later in life. So much so that instead of opening up to the world, you get further into a shell. Today's guest, Myke Macapinlac, wants to get guys out of that shell. Being a big kid himself, and not being able to speak English when he first moved to Canada, he was ostracized quite a bit. In fact, he felt it so much that he'd eat his lunch in the bathroom by himself. Eventually, he felt that life was passing him by and that's when he started to make a change. Now he helps other guys make that change. In today's talk, I chat with Myke about how he got started, where the idea of the Social Man Project came from, where he gets some of his coaching techniques, and what separates him from other coaches. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How he fell into the coaching arena. * When he knew it was time to start his own path. * How he landed his first client. * How he finds space to do his bootcamps and courses. * Where the idea of the Social Man Project (now called Social Confidence Mastery) came from. * Where he gets some of his coaching techniques and how those set him apart from other coaches. * What are Myke's 3 cornerstones of his coaching. * How to be a Nice Guy without being a pushover. * Thoughts on Neil Strauss and his teachings. * 4 questions answered on dating issues. * …and MUCH more.  AoL 021: Behind the Scenes in Making a Now Trending Show with Josh Featherstone | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:48

Being a creative can be an interesting ride. For many of us to consider doing anything outside of our normal work life, there has to be some sort of reward or reason to do it. For many of us, that reward is extra income. For others, just making things is, itself, rewarding enough. Many times, that second group is referred to as hobbyists or amateurs. These terms themselves, kind of have a negative connotation to them. "He's such an amateur." vs "He's such a professional." There's really no contest, right? Well, funnily enough, that perception of thinking couldn't be farther from the truth in a lot of instances. A good example of this is today's guest, Josh Featherstone. During the day, you can find Josh working as a manager in the restaurant world. But at night, he switches hats and becomes host of The Now Trending Show. This particular podcast isn't his first rodeo, either. He's been host of other shows as well. In today's talk, we chat with Josh about how he got into media, what his show is about, some of the equipment he uses, and even a little about his thoughts on copyright infringement. SPECIFICALLY, YOU’LL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT: * How Josh got into podcasting. * What radio shows inspired him to get into media. * What his thoughts are on Marc Maron and the use of "WTF". * The story behind the Now Trending Show. * How the show gets topics and how Josh and Lori frame what they talk about. * Why a podcast is the way to go if you're looking to have unrestricted speech. * Equipment they have and how the show is actually done. * How they include clips from the media in the show. * His thoughts on copyright infringement. * Future monetization plans (if any). * …and MUCH more.
