Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists
Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. They write & perform their own verses for a a RuMix of RuPaul's "American" in a choreographed floor show! “Are You A Good Witch Or A Bad Witch?” On Episode 11 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10, only 5 Queens remain. For this “Resting Brunch Face” mini-challenge, the Top 5 put pancakes in edible drag and served them to Cheyenne Jackson. Asia’s “Panquisha” won her Cheyenne’s heart and a spa day on Rodeo Drive. The maxi-challenge & runway forced the Queens to tap into their Inner Saboteurs. Each girl created two looks/characters inspired by their best and worst qualities. What could possibly go wrong when confronting your inner demons while sleep deprived? The split personalities in the Werk room & runway let us in on the Queens’ inner monologues and deepest insecurities. Aquaria/Sabatina stole the show with a solid narrative and flawless style. However, Miz Cracker/Miz Crumbs didn't make the cut and we said goodbye to another New York Queen. Joining us from The Shade Parade podcast are Viki Villainess & Ari KiKi!

All T. All Trade! On Episode 10 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10, 6 Queens still remain after last week's double save. This week, the mini-challenge has the girls modeling for RuPaul's newest fragrance, "Trade." Eureka slayed the competition with her flawless John Candy illusion & gets to pick the queens' maxi-challenge partners. For the maxi-challenge & runway, the Top 6 drag up Social Media Influencers & stomp the runway as a family. Somehow, Cynthia Lee Fontaine snuck back into the competition, masquerading as Frankie Grande! This episode had us in stitches & left us in tears. RuPaul was in rare form, Miz Cracker FINALLY won a maxi-challenge/runway, and Monét X. Change's elimination was heartbreaking. Joining us is New York's Plus Size Barbie, Jiggly Caliente!

Make It A Double! On Episode 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10, only 6 Queens remain. This week, the "Pants Down Bottoms Up" mini-challenge recalled challenges from past seasons. The queens had to rely on their memory to match up Rounderbum (a.k.a. Lumpybum) underwear designs worn by the Pit Crew. It also marked the first time a trans man - Laith Ashley - was a member of the Pit Crew. The maxi-challenge had the girls perform in "Breastworld," a parody of HBO's hit series, "Westworld." It was very "Fantasy Island" meets "The Jetsons" meets lackluster writing & confusing directing. However, the Queens did what they could with the material provided. The Silver Foxy runway theme had the Queens gave us a glimpse of where they would be 50 years from now. Some withstood the ravages of aging, while others were selling fanny packs in the DragCon parking lot. Joining us from Los Angeles is well-known top, Meatball!
We're Back From La-DragCon! RuPaul's DragCon L.A. 2018 was an amazing KiKi. While the past week is a bit of a blur, we had a blast finally meeting all of our West Coast friends & working alongside all of the amazing Queens & their helpers. The vibe in L.A. was amazing & we were definitely tempted to make the move to the Best Coast! We talk about our experiences in L.A.; setting up & working at Jiggly Caliente's booth; and answer listener questions!
Are Rhinestones & Sequins Glitteriffic? On Episode 8 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10, only 7 Queens remain. This week, it's all about Cher. Mama Ru took us back to Season 2 with the "Slap Out of It" mini-challenge; the girls had to perform in another musical maxi-challenge, "Cher: The Unauthorized Rusical"; & the "Glitterific" runway was full of glitz, glam, & confusion. “What’s good, Ma? Let me give you a reading!” Aja is back on Grizzly KiKi. Since we last checked in, Aja has been on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 & RuPaul’s Drag All Stars Season 3; sent countless internet trolls back under their bridges; & traveled the world entertaining thousands of fans! On the eve of RuPaul’s DragCon L.A. 2018, Aja delves into the intense racism & bigotry within the Drag Race fandom. As a Queen of color & a public figure, it is something she has had to deal with head-on. Tackling these experiences in both real & virtual spaces has been no easy feat, as they have become increasingly more common & brazen. What the trolls don’t understand is that Aja is a force to be reckoned with & she’s going to get them together, one way or another. We are also celebrating the release of “Brujería.” It is the second single off of Aja’s upcoming debut EP, “In My Feelings,” to be released on May 11. The single dispels misconceptions surrounding Santería - Aja’s religious practice - while simultaneously celebrating historical & fictional Brujas. The track’s visually stunning music video completes the enchantment & explores the multiple facets of Aja’s complex persona. Having seen Aja’s evolution over many years has been a privilege. She is a true New York Queen whose reach has grown beyond the five boroughs. She is using her art as a call to action. Queer people of color are essential, important, & must be celebrated!
Snatch Game Is Not A Team Challenge! On Episode 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10, the 8 remaining Queens practice the fine art of reading & impersonate iconic celebrities in the "Snatch Game!" The girls then have to flop down the runway in fantasy mermaid looks inspired by Bette Midler's famous character, Delores Del Ago. This week, Aquaria received 10's across the board for her Melania Trump impression & highly editorial oil spill mermaid fantasy. We also lost the heart of Season 10 with the elimination of Monique Heart. She will be missed, but she will continue to be STUNNING! Joining us from Los Angeles is designer Juan Chavez!

On The Switch 2, the Chilean Queens are no match for Las Extranjeras. Over this past weekend, we binged the The Netflix documentary, "Wild Wild Country." It covers the rise & fall of Rajneeshpuram, a commune established in Oregon in the early 1980's. The documentary features interviews with members of the Rajneesh movement & commentary from the infamous Ma Anand Sheela, the former spokeswoman & secretary of the religion's founder, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. The documentary was chilling in it's exploration of xenophobia, cult mentality, & megalomania. It is definitely a Must-See! We also answer listener questions, so keep them coming!
