Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists
Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. And The Winner Is...! On the Finale of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4, the Top Four have to write a verse and dance in a choreographed performance of RuPaul's latest single, "Super Queen." The Queens must draw on their unique super powers and most resplendent All Stars Eleganza to wow Mama Ru and the panel of judges. In the end, only one Queen (or maybe more?) will be granted a coveted spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame!
On Episode 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4, the five remaining Queens have to act in a behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of "Sex and The Kitty Girl 3." Did the girls do justice to the now-iconic "Sex and the City" or did their performances land with a resounding SPLAT?! The runway theme this week was "Kitty Gurl Couture." On Episode 8 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4, the Queens are paired up with their best Judy's to put on a Judy Garland-themed dance number in honor of the 50th anniversary of her passing. For the runway, the Top 6 Queens transform their Judy's into their drag sisters. There were some uncanny resemblances among the pairs, but others were more like their mother's second cousins's hairdresser's nail tech's dermatologist! With All Stars rules suspended, it's anybody's guess which girls will stay to shantay another day! The runway theme this week was "LaLaPaRuza Eleganza." As nebulous as Ru's mile-high coifs, the theme was open to interpretion...WIDE OPEN. The looks were a mixed bag of pure genius and mediocrity, with some girls pulling out all the stops and others pulling from the back of their closets. Here Lies The Dearly Departed Lady Bunny :-( On Episode 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4, the top 6 Queens have to deliver the rulogy at the funeral roast of the legendary Lady Bunny. With the number of contestants quickly dwindling, this main challenge was a make it or break it moment. Three of the girls nailed the roast, while the others were barely warmed up. The runway theme this week was "Angelic White." The Queens floated down the runway in feathers, rhinestones, and yards upon yards of billowing fabric. On Episode 4 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4, the Queens embrace their inner Jersey girls and whip out the leopard print as they enter Judge Michele Visage's courtroom on "Jersey Justice." While most of the Queens turned it out and made us laugh, one barely elicited a chuckle. The runway theme this week was "Swerves and Curves: Padded for the Gawds." With a theme as open to interpretation as this, there were extreme silhouettes, deconstructed couture, and pop culture references on the runway. Not all the girls' looks may have been obvious, but Monique Heart & Manila Luzon won the race as they swerved into first place with their dangerous curves! In this new twist on the "Snatch Game," the Queens channel iconic - and not-so-iconic - female celebrities and the winners get to lipsync for their legacy! This week, the runway theme is "Boots The House Down." However, a more appropriate theme would have been "Where Are The Boots?" Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019! On this episode, we discuss the best in movies, music, and media for 2018 and what we're looking forward to in 2019. FX's "Pose" was a groundbreaking & honest exploration of Ball culture; Cardi B. & Jannelle Monáe slayed with their amazing albums; movies liked "Black Panther" and "A Simple Favor" were standouts: and The Vixen left an indelible mark on RuPaul's Drag Race & challenged the complacency within the drag community regarding racism. 2019 promises to be an exciting year, with some of our favorites returning and new projects premiering. We are awaiting Season 2 of "Pose" with baited breath, and can hardly wait for Valentina's turn as Angel in "Rent LIVE" on FOX. We also talk about our own personal triumphs in 2018 and the progress we hope to make in 2019.
