Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists

Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. Grizzly Kiki is a program for drag enthusiasts, Drag Artists, and everyone in between. Listen and Join the Party!!

The Privilege Of Agreeing To Disagree | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Was It An Act Of Kindness Or Class Solidarity? On this episode, we discuss the recent controversy surrounding Ellen Degeneres attending a Dallas Cowboys game with former President, George W. Bush. After a photo of them and their spouses went viral on Twitter, Ellen addressed the widespread criticism in a 4-minute speech on her talk show. However, it was more misdirection than anything else. Ellen casually dismissed the gravity of the issue by saying "I'm friends with a lot of people who don't share the same beliefs that I have" & "When I say, 'be kind to one another,' I don't only mean the people that think the same way that you do." With just those two sentences, it is painfully obvious that Ellen is out of touch & has used her wealth & class to attain the privilege to agree to disagree. In this week's "Keto Korner," we rave about The Girl On Bloor's Philly Cheese Steak Stuffed Peppers & Eatwell 101's Instant Pot Tuscan Soup. In "I'm So Excited," we shout out AHS 1984 & QueerWOC: The Podcast. We also share a listener email, so keep them coming!

Why So Blue? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

"Determining what obscene, indecent and profane mean can be difficult, depending on who you talk to." ~ The Federal Communications Commission On this episode, we tackle the FCC's nebulous stance on what is too obscene for network television. Following our discussion about Hallow Eve's floorshow look from episode 5 of Dragula season 3, many of our listeners reached out to remind us that the FCC prohibits the use or simulation of menstrual blood in television programs, commercials, or print ads. With that in mind, we did some research into the matter and decided to share our findings. It was no surprise to us that the "regulation" is outdated, leads to misinformation, and is rooted in misogyny. Seasonal Affective Disorder and our continued adventures with hair bleaching are on the agenda as well, and we share what we're most excited about this week: Cabronas y Chingonas' "2 Fat 2 Brave" with Favy Fav & Eva Arreguin; Safiya Nygaard's YouTube Channel; and Ta-Osh Designs' inclusive range of nude fabrics.

In addition to our hair dyeing adventures, we also chat about DragCon NY; catch up on Dragula Season 3; and discuss our most recent movie-watching experiences! We also share a listener email, so keep them coming!

"We March against the exploitation of our communities for profit and against corporate and state pinkwashing." ~ Reclaim Pride Coalition On this episode, we talk about Madonna's music video for "God Control." The fifth music video from her latest album, "Madame X," it features a stylized reenactment of the Pulse nightclub shooting. Accompanying the triggering imagery are pleas for stricter gun control laws & statistics about gun violence. It is no surprise that the video is quite polarizing; is it an effective call to action or a tone-deaf appropriation of the 2016 massacre that left 49 dead & 53 wounded? We also talk about attending Alexis Michelle's show at Club Cumming, Sasha Velour's Nightgowns at the Abrons Arts Center, & participating in the Reclaim Pride Coalition's Queer Liberation March.
