Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists show

Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists

Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. Grizzly Kiki is a program for drag enthusiasts, Drag Artists, and everyone in between. Listen and Join the Party!!

 Olive D'Nightlife | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Olive D’Nightlife, Please Introduce Yourself! Olive sauntered into our lives in high "Krampus Claus" drag. That was in November 2016 at Nightgowns, a monthly Drag showcase founded by her Sister & "Currenty F&*&ing Reiging," Sasha Velour. Her interpretation of the beast she had created, combined with Metallica, left an impression...A Very Deep One! Our interview with Ms. D'Nightlife is a unique one. We threw our scripts to the wind & just got to know each other. We talked about her roots in Florida, how she transformed herself from a Frat Boy into a Drag Queen, her lovely husband Dewey (A.K.A Tolerates D'Nightlife), & her role in the House of Velour. We hope you fall in love with Olive, horns & all!

Trump Is A Chump | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Donald Trump may go down in history as the United States' most dangerous & idiotic President. On this episode, we discuss #45's latest acts of buffoonery. From using his Twitter account to announce the banning of transgender Americans from the military to his controversial speech at the Boy Scouts of America Annual Jamboree, Trump consistently proves he is unfit to do his job! To even things out, we also talk about our new (and not so new) favorite TV shows & music!

Doug Langway, Director Of Bear City 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

After ten years & three movies, the Bear City Trilogy is complete! Before the Bear City movies came out, there was little to no positive/accurate representation of the Bear Community in film or television. Going above and beyond the "gay" genre, the films present an accurate and heartfelt portrayal of what it's like to live and love as a Bear, Otter, Silver Fox, Wolf, Chaser, and everyone else inside the bear cave! With the premiere of Bear City 3 just a few days away, we chat with the film's writer/director, Doug Langway! The film will premiere on July 22 at the SVA Theatre as part of NewFest.  Magnus Hastings | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Magnus Hastings is best known for his arresting photographs of Drag Queens. Over the years, he has immortalized Queens such as Courtney Act, Alaska Thunderfuck, Jackie Beat, and Jiggly Caliente, among many others. However, behind the lens is a man whose vision & soul are reflected in the images he has captured! Magnus grew up in London, where he himself indulged in drag at an early age, donning a wig and dress to primary school. While none of the other children joined in on his "Drag For A Day," he persevered, albeit under a desk. The foreshadowing present in this moment would be quite important, as Magnus grew up to become one of the world's most recognized Drag Queen photographers! After the success of his 2014 exhibition & book, "Why Drag?," Magnus will debut his new exhibition, "Why Not," at the Mr Musichead Gallery in Hollywood. The show will open on July 16th with a cocktail reception benefitting the Los Angeles LGBT Center. To purchase tickets, head over to Grizzlykiki.com/whynot

The Vixen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

She only answers to The Vixen! The Vixen is one of Chicago's brightest & fiercest queens. She grew up immersed in the city's South Side neighborhood, surrounded by a large & supportive family. As a child, her creative pursuits were encouraged & fostered. In college, she explored numerous disciplines. Unable to dedicate herself to just one, she found the best possible vehicle to combine them all - DRAG. As a visual artist, singer, dancer, costumer, and more, The Vixen is an interdisciplinary queen with a keen eye & distinctive perspective. Not only is she a staple of the Windy City's ever-growing drag scene, but she comes from a sisterhood of queens that includes Lucy Stoole, Dida Ritz, & Shea Couleé. Her drag family has been one of the driving forces behind her ascension in the nightlife scene, due to their love & support. In our interview, we get down to business and talk about her monthly show, Black Girl Magic, her feature on Shea's new visual EP, race relations in Chicago's drag community, and home improvement!

 Holly Box-Springs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Holly Box-Springs is a charming ingenue with a dash of spice! Although a seven-year resident of New York City, this Queen has not forgotten her Southern roots...or manners. Growing up in Texas, she came out at the age of 14 with the full support of her family & friends. In fact, when she started doing drag after moving to New York, her parents became her biggest fans & supporters! Ms. Box-Springs made her drag debut at Paige Turner's "So You Think You Can Drag" a little over two years ago, where she was adopted by Chelsea Piers. Since then, she has become a full-time Queen, scooping up gigs wherever she goes. With sisters that include Tina Burner & Logan Hardcore - Queens known for their kindness (Ha!) - she has created an incredibly supportive nightlife family. Season 9 Reunited!! It has been five seasons since RuPaul's Drag Race has had a reunion as heated at this one (not including All Stars Season 2). With more than one jaw-dropping elimination & a cast so strong a Top 3 was impossible to select, Season 9 has had the most talented & varied combination of queens to date. The looks were fierce & smart, emotions ran high, & the personalities were larger than life. Therefore, a proper Reunion episode was the only way to go. And it is NOT.TO.BE.MISSED! Joining us on this episode is Joy Davis, Co-Host of "Unravel: A Fashion Podcast."
