Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists

Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. Grizzly Kiki is a program for drag enthusiasts, Drag Artists, and everyone in between. Listen and Join the Party!!

Day Camp | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

"Camp is...the love of the exaggerated, the 'off,' of things-being-what-they-are-not." ~ Susan Sontag On this episode, we bring you our review of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's latest Costume Institute exhibition, "Camp: Notes on Fashion." Drawing inspiration from Susan Sontag's seminal 1964 essay, "Notes on Camp," the exhibition explored the ways in which designers have employed camp sensibility in the creation of their haute couture garments & accessories. While it is the first Costume Institute exhibition to explicitly center homosexuality in the presentation of the works, it is a dated conservation that generally excludes the contributions of Queer POCs. Our discussion of the exhibition focuses on this erasure, our favorite pieces, and a lesson in etiquette for museum visitors. We also discuss the most recent attacks on reproductive rights, which are proposing the implementation of the most oppressive restrictions since the early 20th century. To find out more about the impending abortion bans and how to participate in protests, donate to grassroots organizations, or become an abortion-clinic escort, check out THE CUT's article, "How to Protest Extreme Abortion Bans Across the Country."

Notes On The Met Gala | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

"One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art." ~ Oscar Wilde The "First Monday In May," "Party Of The Year," & "Met Gala" are all names for New York City's most exclusive social event. Each year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute throws a grand affair to celebrate the opening of its Spring exhibition & raise money for the department. Held to inaugurate the exhibition, "Camp: Notes on Fashion," the 2019 Met Gala dress code was "Studied Triviality," challenging attendees to compete for the spotlight in the campiest creations ever seen on the steps of the Met. Join us as we discuss our favorite looks from this year's Met Gala, why we think they best adhered to the theme of the exhibition, and which looks fell a bit short. In this week's Keto Korner, we share a delicious recipe for No Bake Peanut Butter Cheesecake, courtesy of Headbanger's Kitchen.

"I Was Feeling Sexy, So I Started To..." On this episode, we talk about taking a more active role in caring for our health & how to be supportive in the workplace during times of crisis. We also discussed "News That Makes You go 'Hmmmm...'": A soldier fell into a volcano while trying to get a "better" view; a man from the U.K. has a peculiar fetish involving horses; spilled gravy got an Iowa man into hot water with the Geek Squad; & Chemsex Survival Kits are providing people with safer ways to indulge in their sexual activities. In the Keto Korner, we rave about a new recipe we discovered for Keto Bagels from Low Carb Yum. NOTE: for the bagel recipe, we used superfine almond flour instead of coconut flour. Simply replace one part coconut flour with four parts superfine almond flour.
