Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists

Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. Grizzly Kiki is a program for drag enthusiasts, Drag Artists, and everyone in between. Listen and Join the Party!!

SNATCH GAME!!! On Episode 4 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, the queens compete in our favorite challenge, Snatch Game! While some girls came to slay, others barely put up a fight. Although Ru ended this year's Snatch Game with "And the winner is the Amish because they don't have televisions," it was crystal clear that a select few stole the show! The runway theme this episode was Flower Power. The All Stars paraded down the catwalk in their most magnificent floral creations. Were they all in full bloom or did they wilt on arrival? Listen & find out! Joining us is Maxwell Esposito from The Tony Soto Show!

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 3 Ep. 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Things Are Getting Hairy! We're still shook from last week's elimination, so Episode 3 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars was a huge relief. The Queens act as stereotypical reality dating show contestants in "The Bitchelor" & werk the catwalk in stunning "Wigs On Wigs On Wigs" themed looks. Joining us are Tony Soto, Lucy Wak A.K.A Dusty Bahls, & Rachael Sanders from The Tony Soto Show Come back every Monday for our unsolicited opinions about each episode!

Not All Skeletons Are Dead | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Skeletons Can Only Stay In The Closet For So Long! On This Episode: David Ayllon's debut gallery show, GUISE, opens at PO'P Gallery in Baldwin, New York. We've been on The 4-Hour Body program for about two weeks & talk about our progress. In a moving & shocking New York Times article, Uma Thurman discusses Harvey Weinstein's numerous attempts at sexual assault & a near-death experience caused by Quentin Tarantino. Since Topher DiMaggio was first accused of rape by Tegan Zayne, four more men have come forward with nearly identical accounts of Topher's rabid sexual behavior.

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 3 Ep. 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Ugh, Jesus, Gross! Episode 2 of RuPaul’s Drag All Stars resulted in a controversial judging & upsetting elimination. The Queens perform in a RuPaul-themed version of VH1 Divas Live & strut down the RuDemption Runway in elevated versions of a past look. While the divas chosen had us cheering, the roles assigned to the Queens & the direction of the number did not. There was a painfully obvious imbalance in the camera time given to each girl & the re-workings of Ru’s songs were generally mediocre. On the other hand, the runway looks were gag-worthy, with a few exceptions. We needed to bring in the big guns for this Recap, so joining us are Jiggly Caliente & Jasmine Rice Labeija. Come back every Monday for our unsolicited opinions about each episode!

Step It Up, Neil Portnow! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We're Grizzly KiKi & We've Got Something To Say! Our obsession with Celebrity Big Brother U.K. is growing as the finale approaches & Courtney Act is still in the house. Over 30 Queens quit Atlanta's drag institution, Burkhart's, & we're thrilled at the unity & support they have as a community. The 2018 Grammy Awards celebrated female empowerment, but only two women were awarded. Cardi B made us smile, Kesha made us cry, & The Recording Academ's President, Neil Portnow, made us cringe. Is Melania Trump on the verge of serving Donald with divorce papers? If so, her $675K travel bill might be worth it. We also answer listener questions, so keep them coming!

 Episode 300! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It's Episode 300! It's been almost four years since we started Grizzly KiKi & we're already at Episode 300. After countless RuPaul’s Drag Race Recaps & over 100 guests, who better to look back on the past than The Queen Of Shade herself, Miz Jade! Not only was Miz Jade our first interview, but she’s been a friend for years & one of our earliest supporters. She’s also been on more episodes than any other guest. During our KiKi, we reflect on 300 episodes full of laughter, love, & tears. We talk about the impact the podcast has had on our lives & friendship, and the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

David Ayllon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The term "Guise" is defined as "an external form, appearance, or manner of presentation, typically concealing the true nature of something." David Ayllon is challenging this definition through his fantastical & arresting photos of contemporary Drag performers. Over the past three years, David has produced compelling images of Drag artists such as Bob The Drag Queen, Trixie Mattel, Sasha Velour, & Shea Coulée. With a background in graphic design & a boundless imagination, his concepts involve creative lighting, adventurous rigging, & some rather unusual props. Happy Meal Barbies, toy guns, vintage telephones, & a coffin are just a handful of the items employed by David to bring his visions to life. We first met David after we interviewed his wife, Pissi Myles. It was Pissi who served as his first model & source of inspiration. Assigned to create a marketing campaign for a graduate school course, David used Pissi as the spokesmodel for Glare, a fictional cosmetics brand. Since then, they have become two of our closest friends. David is now set to have his debut gallery show, GUISE. This show is comprised of some of David's best work & presents the idea that Drag is a representation of the artist's true self rather than a costume. GUISE will be on view beginning on February 3 at P'OP Gallery. Make sure to RSVP at the Guise Opening Reception FaceBook page TODAY!

Catching Up With Jiggly Caliente | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Jiggly Doesn't Need A Fckboi! After touring across the country and abroad, Jiggly Caliente is finally back home. We've missed our girl dearly and desperately needed to catch up!  Since November, Jiggly has participated in Phi Phi O'Hara's Queens United benefit and the Christmas Queens tour. She also recently returned from the Philippines, where she staged an epic homecoming show. She had not been back in almost ten years, since before RuPaul's Drag Race began airing. Her return was met with all of the pomp and circumstance surrounding a royal visit and the local queens treated her like a star. They might have even found Jiggly her one true love! The cherry on this delicious sundae of an episode is the release date of "Fckboi," the lead single from Jiggly's debut album, "Thot Process." The single and its music video are slated to drop  Valentine's Day!

Happy New Year 2018! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Happy New Year! Like the good bears we are, we went into hibernation during the last week of 2017. However, we did make time to celebrate the holidays with our family & friends. We caught up on all of our stories, finally saw Kinky Boots on Broadway, and went to The Stonewall Inn to see Lady Bunny's Christmas Leftovers. We ended 2017 by ringing in the New Year with our girl, Jiggly Caliente, who joined us in playing our new favorite game, "Guess Ru?"

Annie B. Frank Is A Drag Queen On A Mission! A member of Providence's close-knit drag community, Annie uses her drag to educate people about all things Jewish. Yes, that's right, she's Jewish. Really, Really Jewish. In fact, Annie is so Jewish that she is known as THE JEWISH DRAG QUEEN. Ok, she gave herself that title, but who's going to challenge her? Annie possesses an arsenal of jokes & numbers deeply rooted in her Jewish identity. While her name has occasionally offended people, its meaning is all too clear given some perspective. Being truthful - and humble - are of great importance to her. While she is unapologetic in her art, Annie will more than gladly address others' concerns, even if only to remind them that it is well within her right to use her culture to make a statement. We Kiki'd with Annie about her upbringing in Northern Virginia, culinary school, equal representation in queer spaces, her hairy arms, The Great British Bake Off, & much more! Happy Hannukah!
