Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists show

Grizzly Kiki | Pop Culture & Interviews With Queer Artists

Summary: Grizzly Kiki began in April 2014 as a pop culture and drag-centric podcast hosted by Robert Lechuga & Daniel Silva. We launched with recaps of RuPaul’s Drag Race and other reality programming. Shortly after releasing the first few episodes, we narrowed our focus to create a podcast that was unique in concept and would serve a community near and dear to us: DRAG QUEENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The podcast is equal parts oral history and good old-fashioned kiki. We found that there were few platforms where Drag and Nightlife Artists could talk about their art and themselves in an open and honest way. Most of what is known about these artists comes from videos posted on the Internet or what they experience in bars and clubs. It was clear that there were stories to be told and shared with the world. Our mission is to create a comfortable and safe environment, where these artists can share their histories and experiences. Ours is a podcast that is meant to serve the drag and nightlife community by capturing the artists’ voices and making them available to the public. Grizzly Kiki is a program for drag enthusiasts, Drag Artists, and everyone in between. Listen and Join the Party!!

"Who The F%$k Is Heather?" On Episode 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4, the Queens have to audition for RuPaul's new girl group, "Henny," and present their best "Eloguence After Dark" looks on the runway. It's team "Don't Funk It Up" against team "Everybody Say Love," with the original Henny herself, Stacy Layne Matthews, taking center stage. One group nails it, while the other is a bit disjointed. However, the runway looks are stunning across the board, with one queen's glow up leaving us truly gagged! Joining us on this episode is Tony Soto, host of The Tony Show & co-host of the Gay Power Half Hour. Come back every Monday for our unsolicited opinions about each episode!

"As Long As My Bills Are Paid & My Wigs Are Sprayed." Rify Royalty is breaking all the rules...even when there aren't any. As one of New York's most visible Drag Queens, Rify has dipped her toes in all of nightlife's waters; Go-Go Boy, Club Kid, Drag Queen, and Party Promoter. Her aesthetic has expanded beyond the "established" boundaries of each of these roles, thus claiming her own space in New York's fickle nightlife scene. Her monthly party, "Straight Acting," now in its fourth year, actively trolls Masc4Masc culture and is a safe space where partygoers can express and enjoy themselves. Toxic behavior and outdated concepts of gender performance are not welcome. We KiKi with Rify about growing up in New Jersey, her drag inspirations, and the claim that she only just started doing drag!

After graduating, Sham moved back to Boston and has been a fixture in the local scene for over five years. Their signature colored facial hair, and bold geometric patterns are defining characteristics of their aesthetic, which Sham uses in a chameleon-like manner. Googly eyes, flowers, gloves, and a talent for craft are but a few of the tools in their eclectic arsenal of drag. Keep your eyes peeled if you're ever in Boston; Sham Payne is a trompe l'oeil fantasy come to life!
