Don't forget to stop by GreekPod101.com for more great Greek Language Learning Resources! ----Formal English---- Mykonos Mykonos, also known as island of the winds because of the breezes that blow on the island, is probably the most popular vacation destination, having a fame that exceeds the country's frontiers. By combining in a unique way the intense nightlife and tourist development with the Aegean landscapes and deserted beaches, it is the ideal place for all tastes. It is one of the Cyclades Islands located near to Athens, and it preserves all the characteristics of this group, with cube-shaped white houses—traditional and contemporary—that loom under the sunlight. One of the most romantic and particular settlements that one should visit is, aside from The Town, which is the capital city of the island, is Small Venice. As it becomes obvious, it is a miniature of the Italian Venice, with the small white houses that stand above the water. Characteristic are the four windmills standing in a line with their unmoving feathers in the unfertile landscape. A little further, the landscape is colorized by the red domes of the churches, as they come into contrast with the island's colors. And in the background, the bright blue sea surrounds the life of the residents; deserted beaches for those who prefer relaxed vacations or populated ones for those who want to start—or continue—night entertainment from earlier in the day. The island has not accidentally gained fame as the most cosmopolitan one; famous people from Greece and all over the world gather there every summer, transferring the social life from big cities to Mykonos' Town. Aside from the famous people and the friends of entertainment, the island is a known meeting place of homosexuals, and actually there exists one of the most we [...]
