Trucker Shawn New Driver with an Old Soul | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:12

Trucker Shawn new driver with an old soul. Shawn Dirksen has been driving six months as a trucker but you would swear he's been at it 6 years. Shawn had a boyhood dream of being a trucker all his life. When he got the opportunity to catch his dream, he went for it. In his mid 40's, Shawn is now running the road and enjoying life on the road. Shawn sat down with TalkCDL and put everything in perspective. He is trying to live like an old school trucker in the sense that he wants to show respect to the industry. He told us he makes sure he cleans up his area whenever parked somewhere and he is always willing to help a fellow truck driver that may need him. Shawn started his career with Boyd Brothers and had some nice things to say about his current company. Shawn runs the Southeast and is home most every weekend. He is pulling a flatbed trailer which is probably one of the toughest jobs in trucking. Tune in to this weeks episode and hear everything Shawn had to say. * https://boydbros.comhttp://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* https://www.fleetcleanusa.com/7-myths-about-flatbed-hauling/* http://talkcdl.com/neo-secret-trucker/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* http://talkcdl.com/stories-from-the-road-2-wrecks/* http://talkcdl.com/coronavirus-and-truckers/* http://talkcdl.com/the-trucker-house-made-of-containers/* http://talkcdl.com/trucking-a-young-boys-dream/ Truckers and Memorial Day Weekend TalKCDL is the Number One Trucking Podcast on planet Earth. This isn't just our claim but yours also. Holidays come and go fo most truck drivers. While America is celebrating the holidays, most truckers will be driving through the events. America needs its supplies and most truckers are willing too and happy to help out. If you see a trucker this holiday, please keep him in your prayers. While driving this Memorial Day weekend please use extra caution, holidays tend to bring out impaired drivers. Tips for sharing the road with truckers If you are going to be on the road in a personal vehicle, here are some tips to help you interact around the big rigs. * Do not tale gate semi trucks, The steel in a big rigs tire can blow and come though a windshield.* Do not ride beside a trucker. When passing, do it quickly and as safe as possible. Staying in a trucker sight is imperative. * Do not sit over too quickly when passing. Once you have come over do not brake check a semi truck ever.* Do not pull out in front of a moving semi truck. A big rig takes much more time and space to stop. Most tractor-trailers weigh up to 80, 000 pounds or 40 tons of moving metal.* When riding behind a trucker do not use your high beams. It is very blinding inside those big mirrors on the side of a semi tractor. TalkCDL interviews Send your requests to Ruthann@TalkCDL.com and let us know what you would like to talk about on the show.  NEO Secret Trucker | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:02

TalKCDL is the Number One Trucking Podcast on planet Earth. This isn't just our claim but yours also. NEO Secret trucker. Have you ever heard of a trucking job that involved guns and a badge? We interviewed a trucker that has a top secret trucking job. His job involves trucking across america with a team partner. He is not allowed to post any pictures of his truck or himself in his uniform on any social media pages. It is mandatory that he carriers a sidearm and a rifle in his semi cab. The truck has bullet proof glass and the windows only go down about 3 inches. The job requires their drivers to stay on the road for at least 5 weeks at a time. We are not allowed to mention the company name and the identification of the driver was not allowed to be given out. This is one of those trucking jobs that require allot from their drivers but the rewards are very fruitful. This job has a salary of $80K to $100K per year and the trucks that are assigned to their drivers are Peterbilt 389's. This is just one of those jobs you hear about on the CB that everyone knows everything about it but they really know nothing about it. Qualifying for this job. In order to be considered you must have at least 24 months experience with a semi truck. You just have a clean record and you must have good references. This company only hires the best. That is if you can find out who they are and where they are located. They are so secret that we were not given the information needed to apply with them. The company does not allow dash cams being the customers they haul to forbids the recording of anything on their high clearance properties. * https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&sxsrf=ALeKk03RPLCkbbqBkNIoy8Zi9M0NBxcLgA:1589764974593&q=federal+government+truck+driving+jobs&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjat9iEoLzpAhUNVN8KHYweCz8Q1QIoAHoECAsQAQ&biw=1264&bih=745* http://talkcdl.com/s2e22-trucking-company-makes-a-mistake-watch-what-you-say-on-facebook/* http://talkcdl.com/big-carrier-stats-including-fatalities/* http://talkcdl.com/cameras-phone-interview-inward-facing-cameras-in-semi-trucks/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* http://talkcdl.com/truckers-starting-a-fleet/* http://talkcdl.com/brokers-trucking-and-more/* http://talkcdl.com/d-o-t-gives-advice-to-truckers-d-o-t/* https://www.facebook.com/Foodies-by-Talk-CDL-102404594700177/?modal=admin_todo_tour* https://www.facebook.com/Troy-Austin-from-Talk-CDL-Trucking-Podcast-108575307445225/* https://www.facebook.com/TalkCDLPodcast/ New social media pages TalkCDL has started a few new social media pages.  Truckers StArting A Fleet | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:07

Truckers starting a fleet. Many trucking companies have started with on truck. We call them "one truck chuck". But many of these owner operators have figured out a way to go from a one truck operation to a mega carrier in the industry. CDLLife did a story on Erb Transport. A company that was founded in 1959 with a single dump truck. Erb Transport has grown from one truck operation to a a company that now employs over 1500 employees. This is the result of what can happen if you keep moving forward and work hard. Many companies such as Erb Transport started this same way and building their company one truck at a time. Troy and Ruthann talked about how any one that is determined can do the same thing. They spoke how many drivers will not take the chance because they do not understand how ut all works. Truckers starting a fleet Troy encouraged his listeners to just keep moving forward and let the hands on of the every day operations be your teacher. He also encouraged drivers to get their own DOT number and start hunting for customers by knocking on doors. This is how it is done Troy explained. Youncall shippers that are in your lane near your home domicile and you dont take "no" for an answer. He said it may take 1001 times calling till someone along with timing can crate an opportunity for you to get what he called "lead haul" freight. from there you work on backhauls to get you back to where your freight originates. You might not understand everything in one day but as you go you learn and you are that much farther ahead than the guy that says " I will start tomorrow since tomorrow never comes. Believe in yourself, Troy said and just move forward. You may trip a little but normally you will also trip forward and closer to the goal. * https://cdllife.com/2020/hundreds-of-truckers-convoy-to-say-goodbye-to-company-founder-suffering-from-cancer/* https://www.wexinc.com/insights/blog/efs-fleet/quick-guide-starting-fleet-company/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e22-trucking-company-makes-a-mistake-watch-what-you-say-on-facebook/* http://talkcdl.com/brokers-trucking-and-more/* http://talkcdl.com/d-o-t-gives-advice-to-truckers-d-o-t/* http://talkcdl.com/stories-from-the-road-2-wrecks/ JJ Keller and Associates can help Truckers Starting a Fleet Truckers Starting a Fleet. https://www.jjkeller.com/home can help drivers get their start with being compliant to all the rules.  Brokers Trucking and More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:17

Brokers Trucking and More. We talked about how the industry is looking hard at freight brokers. How brokers are being accused of ripping off truck drivers and trucking companies. A broker is not under any law that limits him from any certain profit margin but it is pretty sad if in deed they are cutting the profits down to the bone as accused. Trucking companies invest in equipment, insurances and labor in order to run their companies. A broker has much less invested in making his company run. He needs a few sales people and great organizational skills. Really not much more is needed except for some great software to help out with the order he must keep. We are not here to judge but when freight picks up, trucking companies are going to remember the slaughter they feel they are being put through. Tune in to the podcast this week and hear Troy and Ruthann break down this touchy subject. For purposes of this section, brokers may keep master lists of consignors and the address and registration number of the carrier, rather than repeating this information for each transaction. The record shallshow:(1) The name and address of the consignor;(2) The name, address, and registration number of the originating motor carrier;(3) The bill of lading or freight bill number;(4) The amount of compensation received by the broker for the brokerage service performed and the name of the payer;(5) A description of any non-brokerage service performed in connection with each shipment or other activity, the amount of compensation received for the service, and the name of the payer; and(6) The amount of any freight charges collected by the broker and the date of payment to the carrier. (b) Brokers shall keep the records required by this section for a period of three years. (c) Each party to a brokered transaction has the right to review the record of the transaction required to be kept by these rules. Videos and Interviews BROKERS TRUCKING AND MORE.  D.O.T. Gives Advice To Truckers & D.O.T. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:59

D.O.T. GIVES ADVICE TO TRUCKERS & D.O.T.. Recently a truck driver was pulled over in Massachusetts with a faulty wheel on his semi truck. He was missing several lug nuts which is a hazard. He was put out of service and out of danger. There has been several accidents in the past few years involving loose wheels on tractor-trailers. When a wheel breaks free from a moving rig, it can cause major damage and even be deadly. In August of 2019 a truck driver on Interstate 75 lost a set of tandem wheels that traveled across the medium and stuck and killed a 36 year old woman. The driver was charged with the following: * Homicide by vehicle in 2nd degree* unsafe vehicle or equipment* defective tires Truck Drivers Responsibility Ultimately a truck driver is the last to inspect his rig before he gets behind the wheel. When a trucker is involved in an accident because of faulty equipment, he will be the only one holding blame. He is the captain of the ship and there is not a person back at the terminal that will stand up and take blame for the driver moving an unsafe semi truck. So start acting like you are in charge of the truck you drive drivers. Make it a habit to fully inspect your truck before you drive it every time! You will be the one held accountable for any bad outcome. Your inspection should always include the lug nuts. If there are any missing then write it up and get it fixed. You will go to prison if it turns fatal. * https://41nbc.com/2019/08/12/tire-comes-off-18-wheeler-kills-woman-75-byron/* http://talkcdl.com/stories-from-the-road-2-wrecks/* https://www.foxnews.com/us/mass-trooper-stops-truck-potentially-deadly-wheel-stupid-frightening* http://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* http://talkcdl.com/truckers-crazy-driving-record/* http://talkcdl.com/trucker-tax-service-advice-to-truck-drivers/* http://talkcdl.com/trucker-gets-caught-in-an-fbi-sting/ TalkCDL Trucking Podcast the best podcast TalKCDL is the Number One Trucking Podcast on planet Earth.  Truckers Crazy Driving Record | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:50

Truckers Crazy Driving Record. Recently we spoke with a driver that confessed to having a few more tickets than the average. He told us he had upwards of 20 moving violations. As crazy as it may sound, he was serious about his Motor Vehicle Record. Truck Driver with too many violations risk having their Commercial Drivers License suspended for a period. When a truck driver accumulates certain violations he is also eliminating himself from obtaining a good driving job . Tickets such as "following too close", Unsafe Lane Change" and speeding tickets that are 15MPH or more over the posted speed limit are deemed by the Department of transportation to be major moving violations. Florida and other states rules TalKCDL is the Number One Trucking Podcast on planet Earth. This isn't just our claim but yours also.Truckers Crazy Driving Record. We looked up the rules by the Florida department of Transportation. If a driver receives 15 moving violations in 5 years he risks a suspension. As crazy as it seems this is the rule. The rules also stated that a driver could also be suspended if he acquired 3 major tickets only in 5 years. We think this on one hand is very lenient and on the other hand very strict but spot on. Truck Drivers That Have excessive tickets. There are many truck drivers that have more tickets than most. In fact they have several tickets Thay have acquired from different states other than their own. When this happens they just get a violation added to their record. They do not receive the point in most cases. Some drivers have accumulated over a dozen tickets in a three year period and have not been suspended. The problems they run into is are obtaining a good job. Most truckers will need to find a company that will keep them off the books. The reason behind this is the carriers insurance company would never insure such a driver. The problem that some carriers have is finding a truck driver to deliver their freight and that when they get desperate. When they hire a driver that is off the books, they take a big chance at legal problems in the future. If the driver they hired uninsured gets into an accident that causes harm or death, the company will surely be heavily fined or even put out of business. * https://bit.ly/2yuc8UK* https://bit.ly/Badmvr* http://talkcdl.com/trucking-news-its-all-about-truckers/* http://talkcdl.com/director-tom-turns-trucking-interview-around/* http://talkcdl.com/trucking-stats-and-those-governing-truckers/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e22-trucking-company-makes-a-mistake-watch-what-you-say-on-facebook/* http://talkcdl.com/trucker-gets-caught-in-an-fbi-sting/ TalkCDL Trucking Podcast Write to us at Ruthann@TalkCDL.com or Troy@TalkCDL.com and tell us what you would like to hear about on an upcoming show.  Stories from the road 2 wrecks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:37

STORIES FROM THE ROAD 2 WRECKS. What would you do if you witnessed a tractor-trailer run off the road into some trees? Would you stop and render help? Thats what TalkCDL's Cody Jackson did. Just outside of St. Louis MO Cody was driving in his semi truck when right in front of him int happened. A semi truck that was traveling in front of him just disappeared. It least that is what Cody's mind was telling him, or maybe the driver took an exit> Wait a minute Cody thought, there is no exit in this area. So did the driver wreck? Sure enough, thats exactly what happened. A trucker pulling a reefer some how went off the interstate and crashed. So when Cody finally gathered his thoughts he immediately pulled off the side of the road and ran down the bank. He would have to fight his way to get to the semi-truck that was trapped in the trees. Waiting by his side Trucker Cody STORIES FROM THE ROAD 2 WRECKS. When Cody finally got to the cab of the rig he was released to see the driver was alive. Before he got there he thought by the looks of the truck there was no way anyone could have survived the crash but there he was, sitting up and alert. Trapped in the cab, Cody would stay by the drivers side while keeping him awake with questions while staying calm. Cody videoed the event which was met with great reviews of his act of kindness. This was a great example of people coming to the aid of others. Cody Jackson was called a hero by many and well deserved. Trucker Cody's Grandfather Cody told us the story of his grandfather. he told us how he looked up to his grandfather all his life and how his grandfather inspired him. His grandfather was a trucker of course, just like Cody. Sadly Cody's grandfather is rounding his final mile. He is not well and is not expected to be here much longer.  Foreign & American Owned Trucking COmpanies in Chicago | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:04

TalKCDL is the Number One Trucking Podcast on planet Earth. This isn't just our claim but yours also. Foreign & American owned trucking companies. American Oil Field Companies Foreign owned trucking companies in Chicago. If you thought we were picking on foreign owned companies, guess again. We pick on everyone that we find are making negative impacts on American truckers. take these American owned oil field companies luring trucking to Texas. This is another big problem for drivers. These companies lure you with the promise of huge pay checks and sometime they deliver but it is not worth it. These companies will work you into the ground and then disappear like a fart in the wind. Oil filed companies are famous of r a few things in trucking. Most are small and either get bought out by another or they just go out of business. The reason this is bad is because if you work there for 3 or more years you will find yourself begging for ant rucking job when you try and go back to normal trucking. This happens because again most oil field companies go out of business and that means your reference that proves you have been trucking for the last three years also disappears. Why is this important? When you apply with a carrier, their insurance company will want proof of your "recent" driving. With proof you have been driving in an OTR position you will find yourself being turned down for the job. I promise you this is a very common factor. Many drivers have told if this just was not worth making a few extra bucks. They then find themselves having to be retrained for a job they already know. So be warned of these American owned oil field companies.  Trucker Tax Service advice to Truck Drivers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:14

Trucker tax service, advice to truck drivers. It's tax time and for trucking industry, as with other industries, we should look to the experts to help with our yearly taxes. For company drivers and owner operators, finding someone that knows how to save and file taxes properly can be hard. Fortunately for truckers, the is a tax preparer called Trucker tax service. Owned and operated by Jim O'Donnell for 12 years. Jim sat down with us to answer some though questions about how he is better than the competition on saving money for truckers. Jim told us how the bigger tax service places just plug in numbers based on the information a truck driver hands over to them. Never questioning numbers or situations, they just merely plug in to their software what a trucker tells them and the end results will be whatever the computer spits out. At Trucker tax service Jim pointed out that truck drivers and the trucking industry is where they specialize in. he said we recognize many breaks and loopholes that other dont because this is what "we do" every day. For example Jim told us that he recently had a trucker in his office that had turned in his paperwork. Jim being an expert in the trucking industry looked at the numbers and immediately was suspicious ofnthe low numbers a trucker had turned in. The truck driver in this case had failed to put in some items that counted as a "write off", in fact a $24,000 write off. This most likely saved the driver from having to pay in an extra 4 to $5000. Jim explained that the bigger tax services have way too many customers to stop and question every number. Trucker tax service believes that by saving their customers money, the customer will return and this is the reason Jim has been in business for 12 years helping Truckers with their taxes. That man is Rob DePiazza and the storm knocked over a large tree that crashed through his roof. The tree destroyed the entire house. Live Oaks in Florida reach over 80,000 pounds. That night night changed his life. It would take Rob about 3 days before he decided to build a house made out of shipping containers. It would take him 9 months in planning but what a blessing it turned out to be. The house took about 2 1/2 years from the storm till Rob would move in. Fortunately Rob was able to rent the house right next door to his project. He would spend the next couple of years working between his business and the rebuilding of his home. Made of 9 Containers The house is made of 9 shipping containers. Two are garages and the rest are for living. The house is approximately 1600 shower feet of living space with 3 bedroom and 2 bathrooms. The door on the containers are still attached to the house and are used for, you guessed it, hurricane shutters. Rob tells us that he does not have any intention of painting the house because he really likes the rustic character of the house. While we were inside the house we noticed you could not hear any wind outside and you couldn't help but notice the comfort of this home. Its air-conditioning system was made up of several Mitsubishis Mini-Splits. From the stairs to the artwork in this house it is apparent that allot of hard work, planning and a few blessing were definitely involved in the building of this unique dwelling.  Tramadol & the Looie-ville Truck Show | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:42

Truck drivers are already signing up for the new drug clearing house. Ruthann from TalkCDL wanted to make sure every driver understands what registering for the program means. She explained how and when a trucker must sign up and why. The new drug clearing house is a program designed by the government to track all professional truck drivers that have a positive drug screen. How the drug clearing house works All drug screens must now be ministered by a D.O.T. medical physician. The doctor is now in charge of entering any and all failed drugs screens. Therefore the trucking company that the driver is working for now has no control over reporting the drivers name to the proper authorities. Once a doctor obtains a positive result, he/she must then enter the name into the drug clearing house. Once entered into the drug clearing house with a positive result, each driver must then do through the SAP or Substance Abuse Program also ministered by a D.O.T. authorized company. The driver then must complete a "return to duty status" before he/she is permitted to drive a commercial truck again. No escape Since the birth of the drug clearing house in January of 2020, there has been an average of 100 truck drivers per day reported as having a positive drug screen result. There is no escaping this program. Each driver is monitored by the D.O.T. and there is nom mercy when it comes to the end result. Once a trucker is flagged in this program he/she most likely will have a super hard time getting a trucking job for the next 5 years. From the time the driver is reported as failing, he/she will be marked for a period of five years. Most trucking companies will not hire a truck driver ever if they are aware of any drug screen failures. Tramadol is the baby aspirin of narcotics Tramadol & The Looie-ville Truck Show. The drug tramadol is considered a very mild narcotic. The drug is used for pain and some are prescribed tramadol for anxiety. It is considered a low risk for addiction but it is still considered a controlled substance. Recently a truck driver that TalkCDL interviewed had confessed that he had failed a drug screen for the drug tramadol. He had a broken tooth and was prescribe this drug. Because it is debated wether tramadol is a narcotic or not he thought nothing of the prescription. Tramadol at one time was not on the controlled substance list but recently had been added to it. This driver tested positive for the drug and was terminated by his trucking company. Be sure you always check with your doctor when taking any prescribed medicine. Truck drivers are randomly tested and need to know which drug will cause them to test positive for any drug that is not permitted to be in his/her system. * https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov* http://talkcdl.com/s2e27-truckers-face-off-with-protesters/* http://talkcdl.com/s2e22-trucking-company-makes-a-mistake-watch-what-you-say-on-facebook/* https://www.truckingshow.com* Louisville Truck Show - MATS TalkCDL is scheduled to be at the Louisville Truck Show this year.  Coronavirus and Truckers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:17

Coronanvirus and Truckers.Truck drivers all across are asking the question, am I safe from getting the coronavirus? The answer is somewhat simple. As authorities had thought, the virus does not seem to able to survive on surfaces for lengthy periods, meaning, unlike hepatitis which can survive for long periods (up to a week) on surfaces, the coronavirus does not initially appear to have this kind of stamina.
