 The FAB Podcast: S1E18 - Negotiating a Raise | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:47

Statistics show that women are less likely to fight for the raise or promotion that they believe they are due, based on how they will come across at work.  On this episode, we continue our Salary Negotiation series with Career Consultant for PGA of America, Kathy Grayson. We talk about how to know when it’s time to approach your supervisor about a raise or a promotion as well as how to start that sometimes awkward conversation.  Kathy talks about how research is very important when negotiating a raise so that you are as prepared as possible for any “stalls” leadership may throw at you. Find out if it’s best to let your boss think it over for a few days or attempt to come to an agreement during the first meeting. These and other tips and advice for forwarding your career when you are a woman in sports business. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.  Transcending Sport: Katie Hargitt, Fuel the Female | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:59

Motor Racing's Katie Hargitt has, it’s fair to say, landed her dream job as a pit reporter for IndyCar and IndyLights on NBCSN. She also produces and hosts a web show, #UpToSpeed, on IndyCar.com. Katie was born and raised in Indianapolis so the fumes of motor racing run in her genes and she’s most at home on the race track. She also serves as a member of the public address team at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Katie started racing midgets herself at the age of nine before moving on to Kenyon and Ford Focus midgets. Eleven years of racing led her to reporting and in 2011 her journey in broadcast journalism led her to doing what she loves in the pits. Immersed in the scene Katie was acutely aware of the need to help women in the sport and earlier this year she launched her latest project Fuel the Female. The organization aims to empower women to achieve their goals through motorsports with education, scholarship and mentorship. Chris Stafford caught up with Katie to hear what’s next for the organization and how women can get involved. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE. A student at Lynn University iAnnie is studying political science. With consistent results since the winter circuit in Florida, following the 2017 National Championship title and Annie’s experience as a team rider the pair will be heading to Tryon, NC for the games as an established partnership, physically and mentally ready to  take on the world.  Moovin & Groovin S1E4 - Yoga for Equestrians | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:48

Claire Deacon highlights some of the best yoga poses for equestrians. She explains that self-awareness and emotional awareness is an important tool to unite with your horse and also important to find harmony in yourself. This is where yoga comes in. In a yoga pose you can locate areas of bodily tension and identify your emotions. Emotions are stored in your body and yoga really helps to pinpoint them. Yoga can help you achieve the partnership that you desire with your horse, and with yourself. There is clear synergy between horse riding and yoga. Required skills can be cultivated through yoga practice.  We develop a conscious awareness of our bodies and our minds which allows us to communicate and move in harmony with our horse friends. Horses live in the present and yoga teaches us to be present and live in the moment. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.  Ready Steady Rehab: S1E8 - Understanding Dry Needling | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:14

On this week's episode, Dr. Heather North helps us understand the use of dry needling in physical therapy. Dry needling is a unique procedure intended to specifically target and restore muscle function, with an emphasis on improving tissue healing and restoring normal tissue function. This is important as continued activity with poor muscle function may lead to further tissue damage and increased pain. Dry needling is not meant to replace conventional medical procedures such as physiotherapy or surgery. However, when combined with conventional treatment options, dry needling can be an influential method to accelerate pain reduction, healing and the restoration of normal tissue function. There is a growing body of scientific evidence that supports the positive effect inserting a needle has on the electrical and chemical communications that take place in our nervous system. These include inhibiting the transmission of pain signals in our spinal cord and increasing the release of our own pain relieving chemicals within our brains. The pain relieving effect of dry needling is gaining strong support in mainstream Western medicine, with public hospital systems now directly funding its use. Modern dry needling is based on current medical science and research known and accepted by today’s primary care, orthopedic, neurologic and pain management physicians. However, the positive effect on pain of inserting a needle is likely to be similar, whether administered as part of a dry needling or acupuncture treatment.
