The Horse Show: Izzy Taylor, Hungry for Success | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:46

Izzy Taylor is currently number 2 in the British Eventing rankings with 20 horses in training and 12 of them at international level. She is constantly on the road to compete around Europe while juggling being the mother of two - Lucy and Fred. Her spring four star goal of Badminton did not go according plan with early retirement for Perfect Stranger following a personal best dressage under the new system.  She has since been collecting ribbons this season including a win at Floors Castle CIC2* with Monkeying Around, a third and fourth place at Chatsworth CIC3*. Chris caught up with Izzy just after she arrived in Ireland for the Tattersalls event this weekend where she has a few rides before heading to Bramham. Izzy talks about managing her life as a parent and how the eventing community is home from home when her children are able to travel with her. She shares her thoughts on the current state of the sport, how tough it is to find young horses when there are so many riders fishing in the same pond, why owners should be given more consideration and how the sport is making significant changes without the riders being a part of the process.  For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.  Transcending Sport S1E17 - Claire Deacon, Olas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:36

Claire Deacon is the founder of the Olas leggings and the company that produces them.  Claire is a graphic designer whose philosophy is about using fabrics that help the environment.  She spent 10 years in the industry designing shoes, bags and surf clothing, which gave her the knowledge and skills to develop her own brand at Olas Ocean Tribe which is inspired by the ocean and nature. Growing up in Devon in the south of England and subsequently visiting beaches in Thailand and Sri Lanka she became acutely aware of plastic pollution. The statistics caused by plastic pollution are staggering. She said: “I felt passionate about creating awareness around the importance of recycling plastic and I wanted to turn the threat in threads. I wanted to add momentum to the consumer mindset of reducing, reusing and recycling.” And so Olas, which is Spanish for waves, was created. The Olas recycled plastic leggings show it is possible to create slow fashion that stands the test of time, is kind to the environment in the process and saves the oceans from plastic pollution.  Ready Steady Rehab: S1E3 - Variations of Knee Pain | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:48

Knee injuries can be scary, painful, debilitating and stop you in your tracks, worrying that sport and exercises can be permanently threatened. Dr. Heather North unpacks the causes, symptoms and treatments for knee pain to offer relief and reassurance to sufferers.  The first thing many patients consider is having an MRI. The old wives tale says the more active you are, the more sports you play, especially running, that this increases the chance of arthritis which is completely bogus. Extensive research has proved that the opposite is true and even constant running will decrease the risk of osteoarthritis and joint degeneration. Stimulation to the joint helps to keep it healthy; it helps to make the cartilage strong and all the connective tissues strong. So being active is not something that is going to cause damage in the future.  It's important to understand that when you have knee pain there are two important pieces of it; one is internal joint discomfort and damage,  and two external knee pain which is more commonly seen which refers to the muscles and connective tissues and the outside of the joint. or show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.
