Episode-938- Understanding the Problems vs the Symptoms | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:42

Now This is a Problem Yesterday I included a response to a claim by a listener that Walmart was “destroying America”.  In doing so I didn’t claim Walmart was a fine company or that they should be supported. I simply pointed out that all the big businesses that compete with them did the same types of things.  That a boycott of Walmart would accomplish little and we could actually use large companies like Walmart more effectively to get rid of specific products like “pink slime”. Well, you guys say I have it wrong, really?  What do I have wrong?  My view is this is a deeper problem where a specific grudge and anger blind people to the truth.  Walmart isn’t the problem, it is but a symptom of the actual problem. Going to war with Walmart in the current system is like giving a headache patient an aspirin and thinking it will fix the problem.  It might feel better but the problem remains.  This isn’t just a corporate issue, it is a government one and a monetary one, in fact that is the entire point. When there is an illness if you are a good doctor the symptoms are used only to diagnose the illness and you correct the imbalance in the system that is the root cause.  The reality is if you only treat the symptom, the illness gets worse.  You can cut out a tumor yet a cancer patient will often still die. Join Me Today As I Discuss… What is a boycott and why they don’t work on large companies Why 20,000 backyard chickens is better then 45,000 people avoiding Walmart One time just so you get it, I DON’T THINK WALMART IS GOOD Why I always say Monsanto, Conagra and Bayer not just Monsanto Finding the real problem Step one – follow the money Step two – see step one Step three – understand individual behavior Step four – understand the total system not one component Step five – see step one What does work Focus on the positives Build and value community Reduce and eliminate debt Do business with the best company available Accept that the debt based system is going to fail Resources for Today’s Show Members Support Brigade TSP Copper Join Our Forum Sawtooth Tactical – (sponsor of the day) Knife Kits – (sponsor of the day) Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-935- The Economic Collapse that is in Process | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:14:15

The Current Economy is a Monetary Black Hole! I feel it is becoming more clear that our pending economic collapse isn’t something that will happen but something that is happening right in front of us.  Much as people in the Balkans felt no war was coming while mortars were placed in the hills around their cities we continue to think our economic woes are just the downside of a cycle. There are signs and indications everywhere that we are not headed for a collapse but in one as we speak.  A long collapse which could have times that appear to look like recovery all while we still continuously drop toward the inevitable. Many people think somehow we can “get our fiscal house in order” or simply “cut wasteful spending”, while I am of course for such things at this point it simply won’t matter.  The mathematics alone point to a single reality.  The current economy is a monetary black hole and sadly I fear we are soon to approach the event horizon. Join me today as we discuss… The lesson of how a black hole consumes a planetary body What is a “super heated economy” and why is it happening in Germany If gold isn’t money why are the central banks about to buy 10% of the worlds supply Our nation will add more debt in just 2012 then we did from our founding though the Regan administration Over the next 10 years the interest on our debt will total over 5 trillion dollars 100 US Cities are facing a combined 2 Trillion in debt they will never cover Numbers on the US Debt Clock going down that should scare you Why there is no way out and what that means for us Resources for today’s show… Members Support Brigade Join Our Forum TSP Copper Meet Me at the Self Reliance Expo Get Tickets to the Self Reliance Expo Safecastle Royal – (sponsor of the day) Silver and Gold Shop – (sponsor of the day) Germans spending heats up as inflation looms 2 Trillion of Debt Hangs Over 100 Major Cities US Government Historical Debt 5 Trillion of Interest on 10 Years of US Debt The US Debt Crisis Central Banks to Buy 10% of the World’s Gold Reserves The 100 Million Dollar Penny Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-932- Selco from SHTF School on Survival During the Balkan Wars | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:57:39

This was Relaity for Millions in the Balkans In the 1990s as Yugoslavia broke up a series of conflicts erupted that are often called the Third Balkan War.  In fact what this was amounted to a series of regional conflicts that were in essence several different civil wars. In the middle of this region lived a young man we shall call Selco who simply was happy to have friends and a job along with playing in a local rock band.  Something that could have come right out of Americana.  Then almost overnight the entire dream became a nightmare.  The region was in the middle of a war, there was absolutely no support for over a year. During this year Selco and his group lived without running water, no electricity, no food service or grocery stores, no distribution of any goods and absolutely no legitimate law enforcement.  It was a time when simply walking down certain streets during daylight hours would be met with a hale of sniper fire.  A time when a man who stood alone would meet with certain death.  A time with very little medical care, abysmal sanitation and where most people buried dead comrades and family members in their back yards. Today Selco still lives in this area and he runs a website called “Shit Hit the Fan School” where he provides information on what happened, what worked, what didn’t and how order was eventually restored.  There is no other source of education on survival of a complete breakdown better then from someone who didn’t just live it, but survived it.  Episode-931- 15 Questions and Answers on Preparedness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:47

Today I Answer 15 Questions I am Always Asked. In 2008 when people asked me what I did if I mentioned this show they always seems a bit taken back, guarded and looked at me like perhaps my tin foil hat was showing a little.  Today though things are different, when I meet people at the farmer’s market, the compost facility, the supermarket, business meetings etc. and they ask what I do I am now greeted with interest and questions. Some of these questions are almost universal, some are a bit odd and some clearly tell me I am dealing with either a newbie or a seasoned prepper looking to go further.  Given many of them are very common questions though I figured I would do an episode today on some of them.  This will likely be a great show for newbies and hopefully have some interesting stuff for people who have been around a long time as well. Join Me Today as I Answer… What is the biggest threat we face nationally? How can I afford to get prepared when I can barely get by already? How much land do you need to produce 100% of your own food? How to you test your preps, more often stated as how do I know if I’ve done enough? How much food should I store? What do you think will happen where I live? (usually from suburbanites) Don’t you think it would be 100% safe in rural ares? (usually from those who live rural) How do I get my wife/husband/brother/uncle/etc to understand this stuff? What should I do if I have no place to evacuate to? How big of a solar system do I need to provide all my own energy? How long can a generator run my house for me? If I have lots of gold and silver won’t that make me rich if the economy collapses? What kind of gun should I get?  How much ammo is enough? etc. I want to put a group together how do I find like minded people? Why do you tell people about what you do, isn’t that a mistake?  Episode-930- Lacto Fermentation and Other Ways to Use Excess Production | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:10:10

The Schmitt 5L Fermenting Crock Pot Likely if you garden (or even just hit the Farmer’s Market or get stuff from your gardening neighbors) you are either in peak production or soon will be.  Often the stuff we love the most comes in with such abundance that we can’t possibly keep up with it. Sometimes this is just great as part of why most of us grow our own food is to create long term storage so out comes the canning gear and dehydrator, or the steamer and blanch and freeze is the name of the game.  Yet sometimes we don’t have quite enough to warrant the canning gear or we simply just don’t feel like it on an dog day in the middle of summer. What to do then?  What do you do with 12 big cucumbers when the neighbors are like, no thanks we have enough now.  What about those jalapenos that are not quite big enough for the bacon and cheese wrap but you don’t feel like dehydrating them yet because you know the fall will bring so many for that it really isn’t necessary.  What about those zucchini that just keep coming and coming? Today I will focus mostly on lacto fermentation for short term use and refrigerated storage along with a few other things that can use up or extend the shelf life of all the abundance this time of year provides. Join Me Today As I Discuss… The basics salt and sometimes water Fermentation vessels from simple to refined Why I like smaller crocks and would prefer several of them to one big one Making basic fermented pickles a great start Yes it is completely safe and the mold on top won’t hurt you Do you need whey? No but I will tell you how to get it anyway Some recipes Basic fermented pickles Fermented jalapenos Jalapeno Escabeche Fermented zucchini Beet and apple relish  Chow Chow – roll your own recipe that’s how its done Some other shelf life extenders for veggies Salsa, pico and bruschetta Cucumber vinegar salad Some creative recipes and cooking ideas Fried green tomatoes Zucchini chips (long term storable and short term snack) Cucumber melon salad or salsa The big thing, just try stuff, if something isn’t good don’t do it again Resources for today’s show… Members Support Brigade Join Our Forum Knife Kits – (sponsor of the day) Western Botanicals – (sponsor of the day) TSP Copper Basic Fermented Sour Pickles Fermented Beet and Apple Relish Lacto Fermented Escabeche A good fermented jalapenos recipe Fermented Zucchini Pickles Fermented Hot Pepper Sauce How to make Yogurt Cheese and Whey The Schmitt 5L Fermenting Crock I Own Good Selection of Fermenting Crocks Lid with airlock for fermenting in wide mouth jars Pickl-It Fermentation Jars – Affordable and they work well Make your own fermenting jar – cheap and super easy Wild Fermentation – My favorite book on the subject Making Sauerkraut and Pickled Vegetables at Home – another good book on the subject Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
