Episode-2613- Why Homesteading is one of the best “Preps” you can Make | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:15

We have talked a lot about homesteading over the years, in fact one of my biggest early hit shows was called “From Home to Homestead” first published all the way back in July of 2008.  To make the point of how long I have been teaching this concept, that was episode 20 of this podcast and today we are doing episode 2613. I have taught this approach from two primary angles.  The first being the economic ROI by converting homes which for most Americans are consumers into producers.  The other angle has been the health and well being aspect.  I firmly feel humans are natural hunters, gathers, horticulturists and predisposed to animal husbandry.  While I have been accused of forcing that view on reality, 10s of thousands of years of human history seem to back up my claim. I have always said homestead was natural if you wanted to be a prepper, but I never really focused on it much.  My view is if something creates preparedness, just teach it for all its merits and preparedness happens naturally, the way it did prior to what I refer to as “the microwave generation”. Join Me Today to Discuss… Quote of the day – “I have always believed it better to be settled on a small farm, just sufficient to furnish the table.” ~ Thomas Jefferson The Corona virus mutated, why that is as bad as is being reported Today’s show is not about corona virus but please think about how everything we cover applies to the current situation The concept of homesteading is as follows Increase what you home/land produces Reduce what you home/land consumes Store sufficient resources to keep things running Have the skills and knowledge to build or make what you need and fix what breaks Develop small enterprises, entrepreneurial activities, etc Some thing I can rely on during a crisis, quarantine, etc. due to homesteading I can make alcohol including very high proof “fuel” We produce as many eggs as we could ever eat (protein and fat) lots of feed in reserve I can produce more vegetative nutrition then I could hope to consume I have a ton of seed and know how to make more via seed saving I have thousands of gallons of rain catch for irrigation and I own a Berkey filter I am on a well and septic system, not dependent on grid water I can grow food indoors, in a green house, on the land, etc Fruit season is about to come Wild edibles are about to be all over my land I have enough fish to feed us for months in my ponds I have a generator if the grid goes down and lot of fuel I know local resources to forage food where any risk of contagion is low to non existent I have herbal medicine knowledge My property is well defended against all types of “predators” I have knowledge and resources for multiple was to preserve food I have always said there is no downside to prepping, homesteading is a kind of prepping Keep in mind we may have shortages on somethings but not all things, and this too shall pass It helps us live a better life, if times get tough or even if they don’t   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Quercetin on Amazon If – Read by Sir Michael Cain My Give a Damn’s Busted – Joe Dee Messina   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2612- Ariana Marshall on Income though Amazon Print on Demand Publishing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:47

Today we are joined by Ariana Marshall to hear about how she started a business with Amazon’s print on demand services. In November 2017, Ariana sold her first apparel design using the Merch by Amazon platform, and a few months later published her first “low content” book on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing. She had NO graphic design background when she started. She’s learned much from this endeavor, including basic graphic design, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, video editing, Pinterest marketing, and Amazon sales research. She is a stay at home mom with an MBA, PMP and a handful of other pieces of paper, and she says that none of those had anything to do with her ability to grow income online. Persistence and willingness to learn new things (and fail) have been the most important qualities. Ariana’s other interests are travel (mostly vicariously at this point in life), horses and doing a little more vegetable gardening every year. She’s 44 years old and lives in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. Born in Germany to a Foreign Service family, and serving in the Peace Corps as a young adult, she has lived in several countries and a number of U.S. states. Before settling into suburbia, she worked in international trade as well as once upon a time was a wrangler on a dude ranch, an independent gubernatorial candidate’s campaign manager, and a traveler on the old Silk Road. She began her online presence with a unfocused attempt at a blog. While not successful, that led to learning more about ecommerce and online business. Join us today for a great discussion on building income streams through Amazon MBA and KDP, regardless of where you live.  Episode-2611- Feeling Exposed due to CoVid-19 – Good Here is What to do About It | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:36

I have attempted to be a voice of calm and reason with this current situation, as I always do.  As I stated last week the main reason is this audience should be at minimum prepared at a basic level.  What I have seen in general in response to “the corona virus” is a mixture ranging from some common sense to outright hysteria. The hysteria is coming from two camps, first is the main stream media and the political left.  This idiots see it as a chance to defeat the orangeman.  Additionally the main stream media always hypes everything they can to get you to stay glued to the TV.  I have been bemused listening to them tell us how important it is to “stay informed” as they repeat the same bullshit over and over with likely 50% of all media time dedicated to the same 5 minute spiel for the past 3-4 weeks. The other group hyping the fuck out of this is my contemporaries in the world of alternative media and the preparedness industry.   They are selling mostly fear and gear as far as I am concerned. I have said from the very beginning here, it isn’t nothing but it is nothing to freak out about.  The good thing though is that many so called preppers are getting into touch with now unprepared they are, and so are many Americans.  Unlike a lot of crisis of the week this one is going to be around a while.  It will impact most of us in some way.  So the concept of preparedness may actually go into some brains and stick this time, a man can hope anyway. Today I am going to talk about prepping for CoVid-19 but guess what folks, it is really just generalized pepping for anything. Join Me Today to Discuss… Quote of the Day – “Giving people self-confidence is by far the most important thing that I can do. Because then they will act.” ~ Jack Welch First lets once again get a grasp on why the infected rate is deflated making the death rate inflated Next let’s understand why things always look worse in the beginning with a new disease Keep in mind the BULLSHIT that was being said while I was saying to calm the F down Kids seem to be almost totally unaffected, why that is good and bad at the same time It is important to identify if you are part of the population that is more at risk Elevated over 65, serious risk to 80 and older Smoker Respiratory Issues Immune Compromised High Blood Pressure or other Cardio Vascular Disease High Density Living Conditions Now lets review the concept of commonality of disaster Now some things we can specifically do here… Focus on keeping your immunity up (vitamins B6, C and E) Again Quecertin showed promise against SARs and this is far more mild, it won’t hurt for sure Stay hydrated and stay active, walk, move your fricken lungs Yes wash your hands, and here is something most people are clueless about when say shopping If you get “sick” don’t panic and don’t run to the hospital because you sneezed a few times More generalized prepping Ammo, back up power, etc. sure but that isn’t really the big concern here Food – Have a 30-60 day supply, also you should do that anyway Buy shit you don’t have but should have online while it is in stock for a few reasons cost convenience lack of zombies (freaked out disease carrying people) Things you need to specifically think about for this, again but you should do it anyway Shit your kids eat you don’t think of as preps Hygiene items Maintenance meds Protective gear but let’s have a reality check about it too Cleaning supplies, sanitizers, etc but let’s not lose our minds Remember this shit always passes, be good to neighbors during any shortages, the world is not ending The lesson here for many preppers is, you are not a prepped as you think you are and any bumb in the road exposes that   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To F[...]

Episode-2608- Common Sense Virus Preps and Micro CSA Crops | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:42:15

I need to talk about Corona Virus and I want to talk more about my idea for micro CSAs as well.  So while they are not highly related, I am going to do both and honestly the things you should be doing for Corona Virus won’t take me that long to cover. I have said many times to not panic about Corona Virus and your basic preps you should have in place already will be for most people all you need.  This has led to a misconception that I consider it to be nothing, it isn’t nothing but it also isn’t that much bigger or a threat than the flu often is.  We need balance and common sense here.  So I will cover that today. Next up the thing you should be doing more than anything else right now is systems for self sufficiency and or systems for income.  Growing food is one way to do one, the other or both.  So I have been learning a lot with my hydroponics projects this winter, and while I don’t think I would run a business only on hydro, it would be one part of it, so we will look at it from that angle today. Part One – Corona Virus – AKA Kung Flu Common sense preps are all you can really do 2-3 weeks of stored food (30 days is better) At least 30 days on hand of maintenance drugs Reserve water but it is highly unlikely your water will be shut off A good multi vitamin even if you don’t normally take them Hygiene products in reserve Some misconceptions and some possible alternative solutions N95s filter at .3 microns, novel corona virus is about 1.5 microns Any mask with an anti viral essential oil may be somewhat effective Some research indicates Quercetin may be a valid treatment Remember you can order food online, Amazon Fresh, Thrive Market, etc. I know it is stupid to hear it over and over, but yes wash your hands Above all don’t panic and stop listing to anyone pushing fear based bullshit on this   Part Two – Ideas for Vegetable and Herb Varieties for a “Micro CSA” First again it really isn’t a CSA but I don’t know what else to call it The keys to making this work are Keep work to a minimum Keep freshness to a maximum Have the stuff people use anyway Also have stuff people can’t get anywhere Create seasonal variations and sell that with your marketing Have some things you can always up production on quickly if you need to Make crops do double or triple work for you Train your customers to do some of the work Some crops I will definitional include if I do this… Fennel Ginger Red Veined Sorrel Celery (pink if I can find the right seed source) Chard (in many colors) Three texture/colors of lettuce Arugula Wasabi Arugula Basil (multiple varieties) Micro Greens – Broccoli, Borage, Radish, Cress, Sunflower, etc. Purple Bok Choi Kale Dill Cucumber Peppers Tomatoes Water Cress Nasiturm Horse Radish Wild Edibles Some Final Thoughts   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Quercetin on Amazon We Got This – A Day to Remember   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon. Curtis Stone and I discuss a variety of subjects today all involving achieving as much liberty in your life as you possibly can.  This includes why Curtis has moved on from commercial farming, his new podcast called Liberty on the Land.  Using law to avoid compliance with other laws,  Setting up trusts and more. We also discuss the continued erosion of quality of life in the cities and the lunacy of the “social justice” crowd.  We talk about strategic relocation, the scale of permanence and lifestyle design. We then dig into potential solutions to many of the current problems like virtual nations, partnering with tribal nations and more.  We even cover some of the technological and economic flux that is coming down on us like freight train.  Episode-2606- Topic Round Table Discussion with Nick Ferguson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:59:14

Nick Ferguson is in Texas as part of a consultation tour and spending a few days at Nine Mile Farm.  We were sampling some amazing rum last night along with some far too good martinis and started talking about a variety of subjects.  With Nick and I of course that involved fish tanks and aquatic systems but we also started talking plants, plant propagation, the concept of micro CSAs, planning for an eventual economic shift and more. It all sounded pretty good after a second drink anyway so we figured it might still sound good today, we shall see about that.  ;>) So join Nick and I today as we discuss… Nicks new nursery business and progress on his launch sale The concept of a micro CSA and is that the right names since I don’t really mean a CSA Seeing homesteading as an investment, ie planting trees that gain value over time, etc. Why this may be the most important time in history to take and entrepreneurship path What to look for in a property and how it relates to your long term goals The importance of living frugally and eliminating debt Not letting perfect be the enemy of the good with technologies like say hydroponics The role of animals for homesteaders and keeping them “profitable” even if you don’t sell them What the next 5-10 years look like, may be and definitely at the same time   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com The Granddaddy’s Gun Club Rare Plant Store The Middle on Song Facts The Middle – Jimmy Eat World   Sponsors of the Day Ridge Wallet J.M.  Episode-2602- Kinder Goats on the Homestead with Roger McDowell | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:33:18

Roger grew up on a small family farm in central Kentucky. His working class parents taught him the value of a strong work ethic from a young age. They grew/raised much of what they ate from a variety of livestock and a big garden. They also sold some of their excess produce on the side. Roger was accepted into the US Naval Academy after high school and graduated with an engineering degree in 1981. Upon graduation he took a commission in the United States Marine Corps. After completing flight training at NAS Pensacola he spent the next seven years flying the CH-46 Sea Knight for the Marines from carriers around the world. After leaving the Marines to spend more time with his growing family he spent the next twenty-seven years working in manufacturing management, eventually moving back to central Kentucky. He dabbled in gardening and small livestock until retiring from his job in 2015. He then purchased a much larger farm, built a house, and now focuses on homestead farming and running a small home based business. He raises Waygu beef cattle, dairy goats, chickens, rabbits, quail, bees, and occasionally Tilapia in his pond. He also tends a garden, and enjoys cooking, canning, and preserving. Roger Joins us today to discuss kinder goats, which in his words are “the perfect goat for the homestead”.  Episode-2601- 6 Underrated Old School Rifle Cartridges | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:27

I can hear some of you already, “hey Jack you big jerk, just read those bullet point below, three of em are pistol rounds”.  Simmer down there partner you will find examples of rifles firing all of them below.  And as we will discuss today, they are all in a way “different rounds” when fired from a rifle then when fired from your 4 inch wheel gun. Anyway I have been thinking that we have not done a lot of stuff on guns lately.  If you are new to firearms or new to ballistics and components you may want to listen to yesterdays Rewind Episode here before this one. The key here is new super duper rounds keep coming out all the time.  The way the gun magazines and blogs write about them you’d think deer now wear body armor and that our grandfathers were hunting with cap guns.  But I am here to tell you, the old, boring, strait body rounds are just as deadly as they have ever been.  They cost little to reload, are reliable as can be and they don’t beat you up on a full range day.  Okay the 45-70 can beat you up, but the key is, it doesn’t have to. Today we discuss these old reliable rounds, what they are best for, some of the available guns that are still chambered for them, reloading for them and more. Join Me Today to Discuss… Why bother with old school rounds when so many new ones are out there The wisdom of deer hunting WWII vets, if it kills a deer, its all you need What is a long range round anyway The case for cast lead and why all these round do great with it What makes these rounds great for reloading and learning to do it Why some new hunting regulations are bringing these old rounds back in new/old guns Before we get into these, many can be fired in shotguns with gun adapters (as 38spc, 44spc and 45LC) ` 6 Great Old Rounds and Rifles that Chamber them ` 22 hornet – Introduced 1930 Ruger 77/22 Savage 25 CZ-USA 527 30-30 – 1895 Henry Lever Guns Henry Single Shot Marlin Lever Guns Mossberg 464 Lever-Action Ruger #1 H&R Handi Rifle 357 Magnum – Introduced 1935 Marlin Lever Guns Henry Lever Guns Rossi Lever Guns Henry Single Shot Ruger 77/357 44 Magnum – Introduced 1955 Marlin Lever Guns Henry Lever Guns Ruger 77/44 CVA Scout – Hunter Traditions Outfitter G2 45 Long Colt – Introduced 1872 Marlin Lever Guns Henry Lever Guns Rossi circuit judge Taurus Thunderbolt – No longer made NEF Survivor 45LC/410 Shot Shells Taylor’s & Co.  Episode-128- TSP Rewind – Understanding Caliber, Millimeter, Gauges and Ballistics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:27:11

Today is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally Episode-855- Understanding Caliber, Millimeter, Gauges and Ballistics and was originally published on March 8th, 2012. The following are the original show notes from that episode.. When I stated I wanted to do some more shows on firearms topics I was flooded with emails by new shooters that all basically said some version of this… “Jack can you do a very basics style show that explains what all these calibers and rounds mean. Sometimes when you are talking about a firearms subject I am fine then you start saying something like the 38 special is 35 caliber and I just don’t get it. Or that a 40 S&W is equivalent to a 10mm in a carbine. None of this makes sense, please help.” The 30-06 is the Father and Grandfather of Many Rounds Often I feel that those of us who grew up reading gun magazines and shooting our entire lives forget how long it took for us to actually “know what we know”. My hope today is to condense this stuff into an hour long show in a way that will make sense to newbie. I also hope that those of you who know this stuff will gain a better understanding of how to explain it to others. Just because you know something doesn’t mean you know how to teach it. One thing I can promise you is that even if you are brand new to shooting and ballistics after today you will likely want to pull your hair out the next time you hear some idiot behind the counter at a sporting goods store giving out advice. Join me today as we discuss… Cartridge vs. case vs. bullets What happens when you pull the trigger Rim fire vs. center fire What is a caliber What is the difference between millimeters and calibers What is a gauge What are some common caliber to millimeter equivalencies What actually does the killing when it comes to a gun shot wound Power mythology – real numbers from real shootings What is “sectional density” What is “ballistic coefficient” How “new” rounds usually come into existent The effects of longer barrels on handgun rounds Choosing a round is not as hard as people try to make it   Resources for Today’s Show Members Support Brigade TSP Gear Shop Join Our Forum Video of the Version of Allentown I Played The Original Video of Allentown (really drives home the “American flag in our face” line) Clip I played from the movie “The Graduate”   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
