 15. The New Rules of Social Media & Influencers with One Roof Social’s, Anna Hart | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:03:25

After years running marketing campaigns for big businesses, Anna Hart set up a blog of her own and now straddles between being an influencer in her own right and running One Roof Social, one of the leading influencer marketing agencies in London. That social focus keeps Anna on her toes. It’s why she’s brimming with solid advice on what brands should consider before investing in influencers and vice versa. Think of this episode as influencer marketing 101.  12. Michelle Adams On Creating a Life & Business On Your Own Terms | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:06:23

Impressive is quite the understatement to describe Michelle Adams’ CV. She cut her teeth at Domino magazine, fresh out of college, only to return a few years resurrecting the interior’s magazine after its hiatus in the role of editor in chief – making her the youngest EIC in Condé Nast history. Michelle has always been entrepreneurial. She’s perhaps, most well-known for co-founding Lonny magazine before later selling to Livingly Media. After Domino she decided to leave her life in New York and move closer to home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. “It was a big decision for sure, but honestly, I haven’t looked back and I couldn’t be happier to have made that kind of life change. I was burnt out and had spent so many years focusing on my career that I had lost touch with the things that matter to me, like my family, friends, and my own health. Now that I’m all settled in my home and my new consulting career is firmly in place, I can’t imagine ever moving back to New York.” In today’s episode Michelle talks about what it was like at the helm of some of the most influential interiors titles in the world and why she had no regrets walking away from it all and starting again with the launch of her online store, The Maryn. We explore how she’s carved a definition of success on her own terms and break down what living her best life means now. www.themaryn.com Instagram: @themarynshop Join the Community · For more content, head to www.thelifestyleedit.comand click here to join thousands of female creatives in our newsletter community: http://bit.ly/2rVZVzo Work with Naomi: · Sign up for a complimentary discovery call: http://bit.ly/2wttos2 · Ready to raise your rates and double your income? The Detox Kitchen founder, Lily Simpson is a master at turning big ideas into realities. When she wanted to transition from working in property development to catering, she simply asked her boss if she could create the food for one of their next corporate functions. To get her catering business started, she simply put a list together of 20 people she wanted to work with, Googled the companies and reached out. For Lily, it wasn’t about relying on industry relationships – she didn’t have them.  6. Starting Before You’re Ready With Aella Founder, Eunice Cho | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:39:41

In today’s episode, we’re talking Eunice Cho. After graduating from Yale with a degree in fine arts, she started off in the art world before making the move into fashion working for lingerie brand Kiki de Montparnasse. There she took on a number of creative roles and in doing so, whet her appetite for the business side of the industry. It’s through interviewing for MBA programs that she came up with her business idea. Coming from an anything-goes dress code in fashion, those interviews were the first situation that warranted buying a suit. The style she saw didn’t make her feel comfortable or confident, at a time where she needed to most and in classic entrepreneur fashion, when faced with a problem, she decided to find a solution. That solution is AELLA. Her clothing line designed to empower the professional woman through clothes that don’t compromise. Clothes that fit into your life, not the other way around. Since launching in 2014, the brand has gone on to add tops, dresses and outerwear to the roster along with a collaboration with Jessica Alba’s Honest Company and a pop-up at Bloomingdale’s in New York. If there’s anything we’ve learnt from the women we’re fortunate enough to talk to it’s that growth comes from starting before you’re ready. Each milestone and stage of your business will bring about many starts, stops and detours, rather than one steady level of success and you have to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. Eunice’s journey is the perfect example of the what can happen when you truly embrace that mantra. www.aella.co Instagram: @aellacollecion

 5. Overcoming Missteps And Reinventing Your Career With Bitten CEO & Founder, Naz Riahi | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:57

In today’s episode I’m talking to Naz Ree-ah-hi, CEO and founder of Bitten, a culinary conference that set out to change the conversation around food and open an inclusive community to a wider audience. After almost a decade working in advertising and marketing, she was attracted to the food space for its innovation and creativity but felt that the space was insular. Ever the disruptor, she decided to change that. The first Bitten conference, took place in New York back in 2015. A week before the event, tickets were totally sold out. The day of, she was fielding ticket requests from people willing to pay cash to get in. More than 300 strangers came for a full day of 20-minute TED-talk style presentations showcasing the future of food told by the people who are making it happen. In today’s episode, Naz reveals for the first time that, despite toying with the idea of launching her own business for a while, she finally took the plunge after being fired from her corporate job. Unsurprisingly, the experience was scary but she was driven by the belief in her vision, knowing that sometimes you have to take risks to make things happen. Last year she took the conference to the West Coast for the first time and was one of a handful of people invited to attend the South by South Lawn festival (inspired by South By South West) at the White House. In our conversation she reflects back on all the doubts she had in the beginning, not knowing whether prominent leaders would sign on to speak and not knowing how many tickets they’d be able to sell. The next Bitten conference takes place on May 12 in NYC. thisisbitten.com

 4. Daring Greatly With Lipstick Queen Founder, Poppy King | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:42:57

In today’s episode, we’re talking to Poppy King, founder of Lipstick Queen. What some of you might not know though, is that Poppy’s career started long before she started Lipstick Queen. In fact, it kicked off in the ‘80s with the launch of her first line of lipsticks, Poppy. Her fascination with lipstick started when she was just seven years old. Her father died and her reaction was to get dressed up and do her makeup. That, she tells us, is when she first discovered the power of beauty to transform your mood and make you feel better. Her company was turning over $8 million in the first few years and by 1994, sales were up by 1500%. The first set of seven lipsticks came out in 1992 named after the seven deadly sins and Barneys started carrying them at the Madison Avenue store a year later. The brand got a cult following but it never reached its full potential and ended up closing and being sold. Having sold Poppy Industries, at the age of 30, she went to New York and started working for the Estée Lauder group on the Prescriptive brands before leaving to write her book, Lessons of a Lipstick Queen about entrepreneurship and starting her new brand. Forever the disruptor, in this episode Poppy explains how she got started at the tender age of 18 and reveals why she’s chosen to be so open about the fall of her first business. We speak about what she learnt working for Estee Lauder and why she thinks the big beauty brands are getting it wrong. We talk about being fearless and daring to venture where others haven’t and what she’s most proud of.
