Disney-Fox Merger May Be a Done Deal in Summer 2019 - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:52:55

The Disney-Fox merger has a target date, IT: Chapter 2 might have found two more adults, and Mulan is changing its Villain. On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Friday, April 13th, 2018) Perri Nemiroff, John Rocha and Haleigh Foutch discuss the following: 1) Disney-Fox Merger May Be a Done Deal in Summer 2019 2) Bill Hader and James McAvoy in Negotiations for IT: Chapter 2 3) Disney’s Mulan Casts Jet Li and Gong Li, Changes Villain 4) The Predator Reshoots Reworked Most of the Third Act 5) John Krasinski to Next Direct Sci-Fi Film Life on Mars 6) Live Twitter Questions We’ve been following this potential Disney-Fox merger for a while and now we’ve got a new update for you. According to Deadline, during Fox’s town hall meeting for employees, 21st Century Fox president Peter Rice said that they expect the deal to officially be finalized by the end of summer in 2019. There’s a chance it could be approved even faster, by spring of 2019. Not only was is just confirmed that IT: Chapter 2 is going into production this summer, but we also got our second bit of major casting news! First it was that Jessica Chastain was in talks to play Bev in the movie and now we’ve got THR reporting that not only is she locked, but that James McAvoy and Bill Hader are both currently in negotiations to join the cast as well - McAvoy as an older Bill Denbrough and Hader as the adult Richie Tozier. IT: Chapter 2 is scheduled for a September 6, 2019 release. We just learned that Donnie Yen scored a role in the upcoming live-action Mulan movie over at Disney, but that’s not the only person the studio recruited. According to THR, Jet Li and Gong Li are on board as well. And apparently, Gong Li is playing the villain - a powerful witch. So for those of you who are fans of the 1998 animated film, that’s clearly a big change. Mulan is due in theaters on March 27th, 2020. We already knew Shane Black’s The Predator movie underwent reshoots but now we’ve got an update on what those reshoots entailed and it seems they were more extensive than predicted. Cast member Keegan-Michael Key told Cinemablend that 3/4 of the third act was rewritten. We are expecting to see a trailer soon because the movie is scheduled for release on September 14th. We’ve got THR reporting that John Krasinski’s next movie will be a sci-fi thriller called Life on Mars. The movie is based on a short story by Cecil Castellucci that covers what happens when a woman who is one of the few descendants of a human colony on Mars that was abandoned by Earth learns that she can actually breathe the Martian atmosphere, a discovery that actually unlocks the mystery of the disaster that stranded her and her team on the planet in the first place.  Avengers: Infinity War on Pace to Make Infinity Dollars in Ticket Pre-Sales - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:44:06

Infinity War has massive pre-sales, Netflix pulls out of Cannes, and Donnie Yen joins Mulan. On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Thursday, April 12th, 2018) Mark Ellis, Ti, and Damien Smith discuss the following: 1) ’Avengers: Infinity War’ on Pace to Make Infinity Dollars in Ticket Pre-Sales 2) Netflix Officially Pulls Out of Cannes Film Festival over Rule Change 3) Donnie Yen Cast as Commander Tung in Live-Action ’Mulan’ 4) Alex Garland to Write Haunted House Movie ‘The Toymaker’s Secret’ 5) The Rock Hands Out Some Tough Advice in the First ‘Fighting with My Family’ Clip 6) Charlize Theron Confirms ’Atomic Blonde 2’ Is In Development 6) Live Twitter Questions According to pre-sale tickets from Fandango, Avengers Infinity War is already selling twice as many tickets ahead of its release as Black Panther did during the same time frame - but what’s even more insane that Avengers: Infinity War pre-sale tickets are already more than the last seven MCU films combined. The battle between Netflix and the Cannes Film Festival just hit a major crossroads. Last week, Netflix threatened to pull its moves from the lineup since Cannes’ new rule stated that in order to play in competition at Cannes, a film has to have an exclusive theatrical window. Now in an interview with Variety, Netflix is making it official—they’re backing out of Cannes. According to Variety, TriStar Pictures has landed the rights to The Toymaker’s Secret, a spec script from Annihilation and Ex Machina scribe Alex Garland. Unlike those two movies, however, Garland is only writing this movie, while Paloma Baeza (Garland’s wife) will direct. The movie tells the story of an American family who moves into an old Victorian house in London and begins to believe it might be haunted. The first trailer/clip has been released for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s family focused film, Fighting with My Family. The film, written and directed by Stephen Merchant, follows a former wrestler and his family as they perform at small-time venues to make ends meet while his kids dream of joining the WWE. Charlize Theron was recently speaking to the audience at the San Francisco International Film Festival (via a report from IndieWire) where she confirmed a sequel to Atomic Blonde is in the works. No other details were offered beyond her statement that essentially said: “We’re working on a sequel.” LIVE TWITTER QUESTIONS Follow us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ColliderVideo Follow us on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/ColliderVideo Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/colliderdotcom Follow Mark: https://twitter.com/MarkEllisLive Follow Ti: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN0Ms3VmhcLlNVMk41zBOIw Follow Damien: https://twitter.com/DamienDSmith As the online source for movies, television, breaking news, incisive content, and imminent trends, Collider is more than an essential destination.  Black Panther Beats Titanic at Box Office - Can it Beat Star Wars? - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:46:30

Black Panther's box office keeps climbing, Daniel Craig confirms Bond 25, and the Deadwood movie is finally happening thanks to California tax credits. On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday, April 11th, 2018) Mark Ellis, Markeia McCarty, and Jon Schnepp discuss the following: 1) Daniel Craig Says Bond 25 Is His Next Project 2) ‘Scarface,’ ‘Deadwood’ Movie, Jordan Peele Film Score California Tax Credits 3) Box Office: 'Black Panther' Sails Past 'Titanic' to Become No. 3 Title of All Time in U.S. 4) Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone Tackling Action Comedy 'Super-Intelligence' 5) Live Twitter Questions Daniel Craig confirmed to the Associated Press this week that he will be returning to the super spy role of James Bond as his next project, further teasing that Bond 25 is gearing up for production, with Danny Boyle reported to be in the directors chair. Craig was tight-lipped, however, when the AP caught up with him at the Opportunity Network’s charity auction that included his personal 2014 Aston Martin. “We’ll see, we’ll see,” he said of Boyle’s possible involvement. In a report from The Wrap, The California Film Commission announced Tuesday that nine upcoming films have received tax credits to shoot in California as part of the expanded Film & TV Tax Credit Program. The biggest title fans are most excited about is Deadwood, the film adaptation of the acclaimed HBO series that is now close to mounting a production after many years of fans wishing to see a movie version. Coming from THR, Black Panther has reached another milestone with the Ryan Coogler directed movie passing 1997’s Titanic to rank as the third top-grossing title of all time at the North American box office behind The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) and 2009's Avatar ($760.5 million), not adjusted for inflation. The question now, how far can it go and will it beat Avatar and The Force Awakens? THR reports that Melissa McCarthy will star in a new movie entitled Super-Intelligence; set up at New Line, with her husband Ben Falcone on board to direct. The movie marks the fourth collaboration by the married duo, with Super-Intelligence telling the story of a former corporate executive (McCarthy) whose unfulfilled life is turned upside down when she is selected for observation by the world’s first super-intelligence. Sunday, APRIL 8th: Perri Nemiroff and Mark Reilly answer your mailbag questions 1. What are your favorite examples of an actor/actress being cast against type in a role? Is there an actor/actress that has been recently typecast into a certain role that you think has a much wider range/potential? 2. Since when has the movie going community started complaining about changes from book to screen when they didn’t have an issue with the changes in Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump? What movie or franchise has now made people nitpick the differences on every movie that’s based on a book?? 3. What is the likelihood of a new slasher movie and icon? Can this sub-genre cycle back? 4. Read the article about cinematic universes that didn’t get off the ground and it bummed me out. Some of these could have been so good! Whose fault is it? Infinity War is tracking for a $200M+ opening, Han Solo heads to Cannes, and the first trailer for The First Purge is released. Only seven other films in history have topped $175 million in their debuts and only five have hit the $200 million mark. According to Deadline, Solo A Star Wars Story, though plagued with behind the scenes drama, will now be getting a very prestigious premiere as the second ever star wars spin-off is now set to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 15th, ten days before its domestic release. The first trailer has been released for The First Purge, the fourth movie in the Purge franchise that sees franchise creator James DeMonaco stepping away from directing, and Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands) taking over. Steven Spielberg snapped up the rights to Stephen King and Peter Straub‘s novel The Talisman before the book even hit shelves. Yet after 35 years, a film has failed to materialize. Now, Spielberg says he might finally be ready to bring The Talisman movie to the screen. Nothing can kill the Saw franchise. Bloody Disgusting reports that Jigsaw writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg are working on yet another Saw sequel. Michael and Peter Spierig, who directed Jigsaw, will not be returning, which means this latest Saw sequel will need someone new at the helm. According to a report in THR, after the sudden firing of MGM CEO Gary Barber, a potential sale of the studio is now being discussed, with MGM using the James Bond franchise as “potential bait” for whoever wants to buy the studio. Back when Fate of the Furious was filming, rumors swirled that its two stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson didn’t get along and shot their scenes separately. Now it seems that the alleged feud has had a lasting effect that could lead to the Rock bowing out of the next Fast and Furious movie. Fresh off Oscar wins for Best Picture and Best Director with The Shape of Water, it appears Fox Searchlight is looking to stay in the Guillermo del Toro business. The studio announced Tuesday that it has signed a deal with del Toro that covers live-action feature film projects to be written, produced, and/or directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker. The first trailer has been released for Blumhouse Tilt’s sci-fi actioner, Upgrade. The movie is directed by Saw and Insidious screenwriter, Leigh Whannell, and stars Logan Marshall-Green as Grey Trace, a man whose wife is murdered in front of his eyes. Seeking revenge, Trace is then approached by a billionaire investor who offers him an experimental cure to his paralysis with an implant called STEM.  The Joker Movie with Joaquin Phoenix - Will It Ever Happen? - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:45:24

Movie Talk: Joaquin Phoenix discusses The Joker, Avengers 4 title will (probably) scare you, and Rey and Finn are together again. Plus your live Twitter questions! On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018) Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, and Perri Nemiroff discuss the following: 1) Joaquin Phoenix Responds to The Joker Casting News: "It Depends... If It Transcends the Genre” 2) The Title of ‘Avengers 4’ Should Scare Marvel Fans, According to the Russo Brothers 3) Rey and Finn Will Be Reunited in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ 4) ‘Star Trek 4’: Multiple Screenplays Possibly in Development 5) Live Twitter Questions In a new interview with Fandango, Joaquin Phoenix finally addressed the reports of him playing the Joker in the Todd Phillips directed origin story for WB and DC. Though it doesn’t appear he’s signed on for the movie, he does say however that the conditions have to be right in order for him to sign on. Avengers: Infinity War drops in less than a month yet we still don’t know the official title for its sequel, Avengers 4. MCU president Kevin Feige has said that the reason the title hasn’t been revealed is that it’s a spoiler for the events of Infinity War. Now directors Anthony and Joe Russo are adding more gas to the fire of speculation. Inverse pointed out a tweet from Twitter user @occmarvel, who said: “The fact that the Russo Brothers won’t give us the Avengers 4 title because it spoils Infinity War scares the shit outta me,” @occmarvel says. The Russos simply responded: “It should.”. Friend of the show Ash Crossan moderated a panel with John Boyega at this past weekend’s AwesomeCon where he confirmed to the folks in attendance that his character Finn will be reunited with Daisy Ridley’s Rey chatracter for Star Wars Episode 9. In a new interview with Spock himself, Zachary Quinto was speaking to Entertainment Tonight Canada

New Mutants Reshoots Change Movie to Pure Horror | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:53:02

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday, April 2nd, 2018) Mark Ellis, Perri Nemiroff, Jon Schnepp, John Rocha discuss the following: 1) ‘New Mutants’ Reshoots to Bring Film Back to Straight Horror 2) Colin Trevorrow Returning to Direct ‘Jurassic World 3’ 3) Box Office Report 4) 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Box Office Tracking for $150 Million Opening 5) Kate McKinnon in Talks to Star in Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis’ Untitled Comedy 6) Live Twitter Questions Jeff Sneider at The Tracking Board dropped a detailed report about what’s happening with the new reshoots for The New Mutants. According to Sneider, the original pitch for The New Mutants was straight horror, but when it came time to make the film, Fox was reluctant and had a whole squadron of writers tweak the script to tone it down and target a PG-13 rating. Steven Spielberg was speaking with EW and revealed to the trade/magazine that Colin Trevorrow will return to helm the third chapter in the Jurassic World franchise. Trevorrow has been involved with most every aspect of the franchise, including co-writing the script to the sequel, Fallen Kingdom, with Derek Connolly, and serves as a hands-on producer and now will return to finish what he started with Jurassic World 3 on track to hit theaters on June 11, 2021. Ready Player One took the top spot at the box office - delivering an estimated $53.2 million four-day after debuting on Thursday, and $41.2 million over three days. Overseas it brought in some $128 million, suggesting that even when the domestic audiences start tapering off for Ready Player One, the foreign audiences could make the Warner Bros. adventure a massive hit. According to BoxOffice.com early tracking for Solo: A Star Wars Story indicates that the movie is on track to make $150 million on its opening weekend. With just five months passing between Star Wars films, and the divisive nature of The Last Jedi, it looked as though fans were starting to get tired of the galaxy far, far away. According to Variety, Saturday Night Live standout Kate McKinnon is in negotiations to join the cast of Universal and Working Title’s untitled comedy from director Danny Boyle and scribe Richard Curtis.
