Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 Lands Jake Gyllenhaal to Play the Villain - Movie Talk | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:40:49

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday, May 21st, 2018) Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp discuss the following: -Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 Lands Jake Gyllenhaal to Play the Villain -Deadpool 2’ Opens Under Predictions to $125 Million; Weekend Box Office -Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein Biopic Gets the Edge on Jake Gyllenhaal’s Competing Movie -Jennifer Aniston and Tig Notaro to Star in Netflix’s First Ladies -Shock And Awe’ Trailer: Woody Harrelson and James Marsden Investigate the Iraq War -Live Twitter Questions Deadpool 2 debuted in North America with $125 million in 4,349 locations. That wasn’t enough to match the debut of the original, which had the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film with $132.4 million. Overseas it made $176 million for a global weekend total of $301 million. Although it debuted under estimates it was nothing to complain about. It still secured the second-best opening for an R-rated film, as well as the third-biggest debut of the year behind Marvel Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. It also secured Fox its second-highest opening weekend in history. With dueling Leonard Bernstein biopics in the works it looks as though the Martin Scorsese/Steven Spielberg produced, Bradley Cooper helmed adaptation, Bernstein, has a leg up on the Cary Fukunaga/Jake Gyllenhaal one. According to THR, Bernstein has won the exclusive rights to use Bernstein’s music. THR reports that Jennifer Aniston will play America's first female president in Netflix's original movie entitled First Ladies. One Mississippi's Tig Notaro will star as her wife and is also co-writing the script. The political comedy centers on Beverly and Kasey Nicholson, America’s first female President and her wife, the First Lady, in a story that THR quotes: “promises to show that behind every great woman is another great woman.” The first trailer was released for Shock and Awe, a movie being described as All the President’s Men for the 21st century. The movie is directed by Rob Reiner and stars Woody Harrelson, James Marsden and Tommy Lee Jones. Live Twitter Questions Enter the MY RODE REEL short film competition - 1 Million Dollars in Prizes! The two join already cast Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and Bill Hader. IT Chapter 2 is set for release on September 6th, 2019. The Wall Street Journal reports that executives at Walt Disney Co. have discussed letting ousted Pixar CCO John Lasseter return to the studio after his “six-month sabbatical.” The Mouse House, however, has given no indication whether or not Lasseter will return, and it is entirely possible that the end of Lasseter’s leave, May 21, will pass without a decision. Producers describe Muscle as the perfect blend of action and comedy that Diesel’s millions of devoted fans around the world have come to love him for. No other details about the story or franchise haven been revealed nor have they set a release date. According to THR, The Fast and Furious franchise has tapped a new writer for the franchise, something that hasn’t happened since 2006. Up-and-coming screenwriter Daniel Casey, who wrote the upcoming sci-fi thriller Kin, is now on board to pen Fast and Furious 9 for director Justin Lin.  Solo: A Star Wars Story Review (No Spoilers) - Does Alden Pull Off The Role of Han? | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:16:40

The ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ film directed by Ron Howard and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton, and the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jon Favreau premiered last week. The film is an adventure into a dark criminal underworld, where Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion. The film has suffered some behind the scenes drama with a change in directors, an acting coach being hired for Ehrenreich and some lukewarm responses from the fans asking if we even need a Solo spinoff movie. Ron Howard took over the reins of the movie, reportedly reshot most of it and recast a couple of parts to bring his vision of the film to life. Kristian Harloff and Ken Napzok sit down to give you their NON SPOILER thoughts on film and if they think Ron Howard was successful in his attempt. They explore the acting, action, direction and storylines of the film. They also let you know if they like how it reimagined some of the mythology of the Han Solo legend.  Will Captain Marvel Top Wonder Woman at the Box Office? - Mailbag | File Type: audio/x-mpeg | Duration: 00:19:13

Saturday, May 12th: Dennis Tzeng and Perri Nemiroff answer your mailbag questions. 1. Do you think it’s pretty much guaranteed at this point that Captain Marvel will have a bigger opening weekend than Wonder Woman considering it has the backing of a more beloved universe and Larson was more accepted when she was cast than Gadot was when she was originally cast? 2. What are your favorite movie credits/titles? 3. In the Doctor Strange movie, the Ancient One could not see past that moment on the balcony where she dies. She says she can’t even see Strange’s future, only its possibilities. Do you think that Strange could actually see past that moment in Infinity War when he turns to dust? 4. What are your favorite Funko Pop and action figure collection so far? 5. Star-Lord has shared Earth’s music with his alien pals and gotten them really into it. If you joined the Guardians, what movies would you share with them?
