Epic Every Day show

Epic Every Day

Summary: We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive. Epic Every Day is about transforming each moment from the inside out, creating margin in that moment by using the CSC's. Living in the CSCs is a state of being; being calm, surrendered, centered, connected, and complete. They are an adaptation of Peter Ralston's Tai Chi principles and can also be found all over the Bible. Being in the CSCs can transform each moment into a place of freedom and enough-ness, no matter what your circumstances are.

Passion Week: Jesus, Complete on the Cross | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:24

What must have it been like for Jesus to be present--in the moment, not looking for an escape—while he is hanging on the cross? He asked God for another way in the garden, but now he’s following through, not looking for a distraction, locked into those around him, fulfilling his mission for us. What an amazing example of complete for us to ponder on Good Friday! Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Passion Week: Jesus, Forsaken by God | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:36

All people at some point in their lives feel abandoned by God, but Jesus is the only person to actually experience that abandonment. The words he spoke from the cross are a quote from the Old Testament—Psalm 22—and give us insight as to what that felt like. And it’s loaded with prophecy of things that really happened to Jesus on the day he died. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Passion Week: Jesus Knows Himself and His Mission | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:02

Jesus was no stranger to mobs—some of the time they adored him, but more often than not they wanted to kill him. Today we talk about Jesus hanging on to his identity in the midst of crazy. He knows who he is, he says who he is, and he trusts God to deliver him. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Passion Week: Jesus Maintaining His Faith | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:48

Who are you when it’s just you and God? Like Jesus in the garden alone the night before he died. We see his faith and his struggle to obey. We get a powerful story of Jesus surrendering before the ordeal begins. We should model this in our lives because it’s 1000 times harder to surrender in the middle of the storm. We discuss ways to do this surrender pre-work. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Passion Week: the Illegal Trials of Jesus | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:26

It’s the week before Easter, and we’re going to spend time this week reading about and thinking about the way Jesus used the CSCs (Calm, Surrender, Center, Connected, & Complete) in the few days before his murder. We’re reading from John 18 & 19 – the religious and civic trials of Jesus. How did Jesus maintain his calm during this time?  The Process of Joy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:30

We tend to make value judgments on things that come into our life. If the car breaks down, that’s bad; if I get a good grade on a test, that’s good. But this value setting is a gateway drug to a bigger desire to control things in general. We want to have a sense of discovery and joy, like children in our faith.  Christian Joy Thieves | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:08

There are joy thieves among our family of believers. They’re often disguised as teachers of truth, telling you things like “God won’t put on your more than you can handle” or “God helps those who help themselves.” An understanding of these and other folk theologies in light of your connection with God keeps them from taking our joy.  God Made You to Experience Joy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:32

Talking about Centered today and Joy: how there is joy in embracing who we are designed to be by God, how the power to do that comes from acting in the spirit, not from our own power. That’s why we talk about centered after we talk about surrender. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  How to Have Joy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:22

Why do we think there is some mystery to obtaining the promises of the Christian life like joy and peace, but if we want salvation we just need to ask in faith? These abundant-life qualities are more of a daily process with God through surrender. These are not things we can obtain apart from a gift from God.  Joy is not Plunder-able | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:00

When we seek happiness, we end up withholding from ourselves the fullness of the Christian life. Sometimes we hold back on purpose thinking, ‘You don’t deserve joy.’ But it’s not about “deserve,” it’s about what God wants to give us. He says part of the fruit of the Spirit is Joy. It should be part of the normal Christian life. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Suffering is not Meaningless, is not Eternal | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:28

However you approach suffering, whatever explanation you use to justify or condemn it, the explanation has to make sense. Evan and Liz Frerichs believe the Christian view of suffering it the only one that brings hope and peace. Suffering doesn't get swept to fairy tale land, and yet Christianity doesn't down play the real brutality of suffering. It redeems suffering!  Suffering in Silence or Healing With Help | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:57

One way to really lock in the destructive results of suffering is to suffer alone. This is a recipe for disaster. There is amazing healing power in sharing your suffering with a trusted friend and spilling it out to God through passionate prayer. You are not alone in this! Sometimes success in this area just looks like perseverance in faith. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Lies We Believe Based on Suffering | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:20

When troubles come, do you say “Why am I so unlucky!?” or do you say “What are you doing God? I don’t understand, help me!” Life is a series of moving from imbalance to imbalance, but our center comes from God and He guides us.  Flipping Suffering: The G. E. Moore Shift | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:51

We don’t always (or ever) get to know why we’re suffering. Suffering and redemption are such powerful themes in our faith that even the angels desire to know more about it. Get pen and paper ready when you listen to today’s episode because we’re taking about flipping suffering on its head through the G. E. Moore Shift which is a logic exercise that helps us put suffering back into perspective. The logic G. E. Moore uses: If P, then Q P Therefore, Q   The inverse goes like this: If P, Then Q Not Q Therefore, Not P Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Suffering: Everything Around Us is Broken | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:05

Ever heard “Don’t sweat the small stuff; it’s all small stuff”? How comforting is that? Not much. Christians have the unique ability to hang on to how difficult suffering is as well as provide hope in God to solve suffering. But we need to get much better at this! Suffering is never pointless.
