Epic Every Day
Summary: We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive. Epic Every Day is about transforming each moment from the inside out, creating margin in that moment by using the CSC's. Living in the CSCs is a state of being; being calm, surrendered, centered, connected, and complete. They are an adaptation of Peter Ralston's Tai Chi principles and can also be found all over the Bible. Being in the CSCs can transform each moment into a place of freedom and enough-ness, no matter what your circumstances are.

Waiting is hard because we’re also designed for glory—we catch glimpses of the way it should be and get heartsick having to wait. You’re going to be waiting, but will you be patient or not? Waiting often leads us to ask “why?”: Why is this not happening faster? Why did that delay or hang-up happen to me? We need to surrender and have faith like in the song It is Well With My Soul where it says “when my faith shall be sight.” God has given us a way to learn to trust and be patient. It’s almost impossible to slow down and be still—let alone be patient with the process. We demand fast computers, phones, and transportation. There’s very little time built into our culture where we’re OK with waiting. Though waiting happens, patience is not automatic, it’s part of the fruit of the Spirit that must be cultivated in our lives. If God can’t forgive you for it, it’s not a sin. We’re wrapping up our week on forgiveness with some final distinctions. There’s a difference between mistakes and sin. Forgiveness and reconciliation are different, but a lot of Christians tend to think of them as the same thing. Forgiveness is something you can do by yourself in your heart, but reconciliation requires cooperation from the other person. Forgiveness is mandatory for Christians, reconciliation is a command as well, but we can only do our part. Minimization is another huge enemy of true forgiveness and grace. But we do it because we can’t face the pain of owning our sin—whether it’s against God or others. Fear of strong emotions also drive us to minimization. Who wants to admit they’re depressed or an angry person? But God can take all of this and fold it into His work on the cross. Do you feel comforted or angry knowing God commands us to forgive others or we won’t be forgiven ourselves? This is so key to our faith, we don’t want to end up like the pharisees, thinking there is nothing wrong. Once we understand the depth of our sin and the completeness of God’s work on the cross, we have no reason not to forgive others. How hard is it to trust God with the details of life? We often want to read the wikipedia entry for our lives before we go into a stressful situation so we know what to do or what will happen.
