Epic Every Day show

Epic Every Day

Summary: We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive. Epic Every Day is about transforming each moment from the inside out, creating margin in that moment by using the CSC's. Living in the CSCs is a state of being; being calm, surrendered, centered, connected, and complete. They are an adaptation of Peter Ralston's Tai Chi principles and can also be found all over the Bible. Being in the CSCs can transform each moment into a place of freedom and enough-ness, no matter what your circumstances are.

Ways to Break Down Fragmentation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:17

“The whole wave knocks you over, the spray just gets you wet” ~ Tai Chi proverb. Today we’re talking about how fragmentation takes away your power and compartmentalization is really hypocrisy. However, there are lots of powerful ways to break out of the cycle of inauthenticity and we go over a few on today’s show. Calm. Surrender. Centered. Connected. Complete.  Being Rooted and Grounded in Your Faith | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:04

Through faith we’re plugged into God, and this is where we get our power. It’s like an electric plug—if there’s something in between the plug and the outlet, no power is getting through. Or it’s like how movement works. Every movement action requires force from the earth—every step forward, every time you lift your groceries, every time you stand up from your desk, etc., etc., is impossible without the earth there to push off of. Our spiritual lives work the same way. Calm. Surrender. Centered. Connected. Complete. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Surrender: Spiritual Relaxation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:56

We discuss the spiritual application of the Tai Chi principle of relaxation. This involves the scary idea of letting go of control, of surrender. There are lots of ways to surrender, but one easy way is to picture the things you struggle to release as being held with an open hand. This is a true representation of these things because we don’t really control the outcomes. Calm. Surrender. Centered. Connected. Complete.  Calm is NOT Emotional Suppression | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:26

Calm is not emotional suppression. It’s about having a way out of anxiety when it comes up—because anxiety is part of life. Anxiety comes when we’re unsure about the future, when we get too busy, and when those around us sin (we live in a broken world). So calm is a method to move through the anxiety into freedom, abundance, and peace—which is part of our birthright as children of God. Calm. Surrender. Centered. Connected. Complete.  God is Willing to Sit and Sort With Us | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:06

Who are we to think we’ll ever be done growing? This is how we act though, isn't it? We wait around for some stability to or some point where we’re just resting, but this is an unreal fantasy future. Today we talk about being complete in God’s gentleness, and share a powerful story from Beth Moore about brushing a huge knot out of her daughter’s hair.  Gentleness: Harm vs. Hurt | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:13

We tend too be thin-skinned. We think getting our feelings hurt is harm—that we’re being damaged. Christians need to distinguish the difference between hurt hand harm. When we approach others without gentleness, the pain we can cause may turn into harm. But God in His grace has the power to heal and redeem hurts as well as harms.  Humility Not Humiliation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:25

Humiliation is really shame, but unfortunately some Christian groups tend to think of it as synonymous with humility. There’s no room in the Church for anyone to have to eat humble pie. Real humility is having a correct view of yourself—not putting self down or getting lost in shame. True humility is a guard against humiliation.  Gentleness Drops Weight Down into Strength | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:24

“What’s so important in His sight that is needs to be done this way?” This is one of Evan’s favorite quotes and it’s all about surrender to God’s plan. Today we’re talking about gentleness. Do you trust God to be gentle? We never fully understand the plan, so this takes a lot of surrender and faith. 1950/1960s documentary: https://youtu.be/uy4IIMVAUHw Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Gentleness: Real Power | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:04

Anger is a warning light on the dashboard of our emotional cars. We tend to respond in one of two ways: ignore it, or rage about it. Both are destructive and an attempt to control outcomes. Both feel like they give us power but don’t. Gentleness the true path to deal with anger. Gentleness neither ignores the issue or exaggerates. God in His gentleness is our example.  Niceness is not a Long Term Plan | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:44

Jesus says the truth shall set you free, not niceness. God, our perfect father, has a more long-term growth plan designed for us, full of goodness and grace. Things like reproof, correction, and teaching are the tools He uses in His good way to change us. We wrap up our week on goodness talking about the importance of self-examination when God’s goodness feels like hurt.  Real Goodness Uncovers Problems | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:20

Goodness, in the biblical sense, is often unpopular. It’s constantly pushing for growth and change. It’s a light exposing things about ourselves we don’t like. There is an edge to goodness that is opposed to the high cultural values of the rugged individual and group identity. When we cross these lines in goodness, sparks can fly, but it’s important to push through for the sake of healthy relationship.  Goodness: More than Thinking Nice Thoughts | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:57

What does it look like to want what’s really good for another person? To act in a good way toward them? Part of it is laying down your desire to be right all the time and picking up a desire for them to be right—as in right in line with God’s design—what’s best for them. We also discuss how being nice is not something the Bible teaches. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  Who is Good but God? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:07

Goodness in action sometimes feels bad, because it may be rebuke or a correction of some kind; we need to change and God’s goal is to help us change and grow. The things we’re really after in life, like peace and abundance, comes from discipline which grows out of God’s goodness, things like God getting us back on track.  Building Good Bricks Instead of a Wall | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:24

When God is good to us, we change. We grow. When we’re good to each other, it causes growth and change too. Eph 2:10 says God has created good works for you to do in your life, so what are those good works? How do you choose what do to? What about building margin into your life? What does a brick day look like for you? Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.
