Epic Every Day show

Epic Every Day

Summary: We live in a world of overwhelm—not enough time, not enough energy, not enough money... the list of not-enoughness could go on and on. Most of us can only dream of finding margin. Most of us struggle to have time, energy, etc. to really fulfill God's calling in our lives, to be the people He's designed us to be. Without changing how we live, we will never find margin to thrive. Epic Every Day is about transforming each moment from the inside out, creating margin in that moment by using the CSC's. Living in the CSCs is a state of being; being calm, surrendered, centered, connected, and complete. They are an adaptation of Peter Ralston's Tai Chi principles and can also be found all over the Bible. Being in the CSCs can transform each moment into a place of freedom and enough-ness, no matter what your circumstances are.

Doubt and Micromanaging Are Love Killers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:53

God cares more about you than I do. He cares more about your friends than you do, so why do you keep thinking you need to rescue them? Our culture tries so hard to avoid offense and hurt feelings that we often miss out on real love. Real love also involves constant reinforcements. Can’t just say ‘I love you’ once and for all, it needs to be heard again and again. God says this to us. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  LOVE: We May Be Settling for Too Little | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:13

God will not be intimidated by our temper tantrums. His love is big enough to listen. It’s so big that sometimes we shy away from it because it’s too bright. C.S. Lewis said that sometimes we want too little from God. If we’re just looking for a warm fuzzy, we won’t find it because God’s love is more real than a nice feeling.  How Deep the Father’s Love for Us | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:37

Doesn't God’s demand for our obedience make Him a tyrant? This is an emotional response, which is where we live. It takes developing new neural pathways to process God’s love. We don’t have to love God in return, we can choose to hate. This could cloud our judgment of His love for us because we think He could hate us in return. However, the Bible says He cannot. He is love. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  That’s the Power of Love | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:44

It’s impossible to surrender to someone you don’t trust because you’re admitting their way is better than yours. Trusting someone is seldom about a big event, it’s a million little instances. God though, in one grand display on the cross, has eternally proved his love. We also talk about the power of self-sacrifice/redemptive themes in media.  He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:43

What do you think about when you think about God? What are your assumptions about Him? Do you think about Love first? Growing deeper in love with God takes work—like any relationship. Feeling or thinking about love is not real love. How we understand or misrepresent God’s love as Christians either adds to or steals our calm and peace.  Bracing For A Whirlwind of What-Ifs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:07

The wall around your heart’s garden can get damaged over time. Fortunately, there are ways to maintain the wall. But unfortunately, it’s all to common for the cracks and holes in the wall to go untended—and then we just keep getting hurt by the same things over and over. We run into problems if we take it to the extreme too—if we build up the wall into an impenetrable fortress, braising for the unknown future.  Yelling at God Through a Closed Door | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:40

What does it look like to keep the gate of your heart open to God? To really trust Him? Are you projecting something someone did on to God? Today on Epic Every Day Evan & Liz Frerichs talk about ways to open the door to God—to trust him again. When trauma is a part of the picture, it’s impossible to just trust God without doing some major healing work.  Being a Good Gatekeeper | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:06

What’s the best criteria for what to let in through the gate of your heart? Is that something you can determine on your own without consulting a wiser party? When we truly know ourselves in light of who God made us to be, it gets much easier to discern what to say ‘yes’ to and what to say ‘no’ to. We’ve got to be centered.  Defending Against Pressure. External & Internal | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:05

It’s been said that love means never saying ‘no.’ But never saying ‘no’ is like not having a good wall around your heart—anyone can come in and plunder your time and energy. Having good boundaries and saying ‘no’ when you mean it, as well as saying ‘yes’ when you mean it, is a good way to love. But it takes practice.  What Are Boundaries? The Garden Wall Analogy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:14

Your heart is a garden full of everything you have to offer the world—your time, your talents, your energy. It is wise to have a wall around this garden with a working gate. This week, Evan & Liz Frerichs will be talking about how best to maintain this wall and keep the gate; letting good in and keeping bad out. God has not just rescued your soul—He’s rescued your mind and your body as well. It’s all getting redeemed! So why do we neglect developing our bodies and our minds? It’s too easy to get distracted by the stress of the past or worry about the future which robs us of creative solutions for growth in the present. We’ve got to be in touch with complete—God’s perspective on ourselves and our surroundings—to even begin having a growth mindset.  We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know….YET! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:12

When we start to think all the knowable stuff is known, we get ourselves into trouble. We also get into trouble when we don’t expect our relationships to grow and change. Unfortunately, we tend to turn off some of the key things we need to grow and change. This may be because it’s overwhelming to have a totally open mind and be constantly growing. But God will guide you. #Babysteps. Epic Every Day is available on Radio Public, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Sticher and YouTube.  I think I can, I think I can | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:27

It’s too easy to feel stuck, to develop a fixed mindset when it comes spiritual growth. And unfortunately, the people around us can reinforce that idea with negative and shame inducing talk. If you listen to them, you’ll start to talk to yourself that way and then you’ll never grow. Today we discuss ways to shift our thinking back to the way God designed us—able to grow and change.  To Bake or Not to Bake Your Computer? That is the Question! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:37

We used to think you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. But, neural scientists have discovered that our brains can change, we can learn at any age! Evan and Liz Frerichs think this ties in well to God’s freely given grace. Through growth mindset, we have the freedom to make mistakes without getting defeated—to get up and try again as many times as it takes!  Growth Mindset: Faith that isn't Stagnant | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:27

If God wanted us to be perfect, he would have made us pop into the world precocial (born fully functional). But we’re designed to be growing and changing as people and as Christians. This must honor God somehow. It’s our job as adults to spend our energy and resources, which God freely gives, on that growth process.
