The store will be first available as a beta to about 50,000 Canadian players, but Discord plans on rolling it out widely to users later this year. Unlike Steam, the new store will offer a tighter selection of PC games. Is Nintendo Destroying The History of Gaming? Nintendo's attack on ROM sites is gaining some ground. Last week Nintendo sued two long-standing emulation sites: LoveRETRO and LoveROMs. Nintendo is suing for $2 million for illicit use of their trademark, plus $150,000 for each Nintendo game hosted. Because of this EmuParadise per-emptively pulled all ROMs off their site in fear of having Nintendo's focus aimed towards them. The fact that they discontinued their 16-oz sausage roll and that their current 12-oz won't cut, especially when it comes to satiating "three men that weigh over two-hundred pounds a piece, a woman that’s a little plump Scotch girl, and a daughter who’s thirteen." He refuses to fall for their charade and buy two 12-oz servings just because they want "to downsize and charge the same goddamn price." AMD Releasing 64-Core CPU in 2019? AMD’s upcoming “Rome” generation of EPYC server processors is going to be a beast. The main point is that users will be able to buy up to 64 cores (128 threads) on a single packaged processor. This increase in core count will likely be due to the process node shrink, from 14nm down to GlobalFoundries’ 7nm. This is not the same as the upcoming second-generation Zen processors, which are built on 12nm and expected to ship in a few months. Rome is probably not coming until 2019. This is going to be a direct competitor to Intel's Xeon line! New Zombie Flick "Patient Zero" Could Be Called "Zombie Whisperer" Another zombie outbreak movie with a twist, the main character was bite by an “intelligent, adrenaline-fueled” creature “born from a viral super-strain" and does not turn but now has the ability to talk to the infected. He is working with scientists to locate the first infected so they can create an antidote. Looks like fun. Abrams‘ Star Wars: Episode IX. ‘Captain Marvel’ Will Digitally De-Age Samuel L. Jackson by 25 Years We’ve known for a while now that Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel takes place in the 1990s, which is how it avoids all the Infinity War stuff that’s happened. It will be an origin story for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), an air force pilot who gets embroiled in the middle of an intergalactic war between alien races the Kree and the Skrull and ends up gaining superpowers. Facebook Messenger Is Getting Autoplay Video Ads Facebook seemingly took a look at its Messenger and decided it didn't contain enough stuff already. Hence, the company is adding autoplay video ads to the chat app. The rollout has started already, but as usual it may be a while before you see them. Facebook Messenger started showing static ads last year, and now it's upping the ante. The app has been accused of bloat many times, and this will certainly not help alleviate people's fears about it turning into something that's not very streamlined. Jon Bernthal Confirmed for The Walking Dead for Season 9 Before Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes departs the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead, a familiar face will return to the popular zombie drama. After rumors started circulating, it has now been confirmed that original cast member Jon Bernthal will return for one episode of the series’ ninth season. Circumstances around Shane’s return are kept under wraps. Since the character suffered a very conclusive death in the second season’s penultimate episode, it’s safe to assume that the character will either appear in a flashback segment, or perhaps as a hallucination of sorts — two things that The Walking Dead has been known to do from time to time. Soup is on! ----more---- Atari VCS Gets $2 million In Pre-Orders On Day One The Atari VCS Indiegogo campaign went live last week and, within a day, the project basically crashed the site by drawing more than $2 million worth of support. With a literal month left on its campaign, a total of 10861 backers have so far raised $2,864,392 for the console. Jared Leto’s Joker Is Getting His Own Movie According to a Variety report, the actor will star in and executive produce the film, which is said to be “paving the way” for additional Suicide Squad spin-offs. Warner Bros. had a film focused on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in development before Suicide Squad even landed in theaters, but the Joker news suggests that the studio’s efforts to turn Squad into its own mini-cinematic universe are solidifying. Clerks 3? No. Canon Film Cameras? No. More teens on Facebook? No. Rick Grimes staying on Walking Dead? No. Dave escaping Granny? No. New music? YES! ----more---- Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohen both leaving "The Walking Dead" during Season 9 Both Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Lauren Cohen (Maggie Rhee) will only be in six episodes each on the ninth season of "The Walking Dead". Lauren Cohen will be starring in ABC's "Whiskey Cavalier" which she signed on to when negotiations had stalled during contract talks over at "The Walking Dead." As for Andrew Lincoln, “Andrew is leaving because he’s had enough of it and wants to focus his energy on movies,” an insider close to Lincoln tells Us Weekly. And on top of all this Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) just signed a $20 Million contract to stay on which leads us to believe he might perhaps be taking over the center stage from Andrew Lincoln. Canon has ended sales for its last film camera Canon has announced that it is officially discontinuing the EOS-1v, its last film camera, as reported by PetaPixel. Production of the EOS-1v — which was launched in 2000 — actually ceased back in 2010, but Canon continued to sell the remaining stock. Although this means Canon is no longer selling any film cameras, it doesn’t spell the death of film — at least, not yet. Nikon still sells two film cameras, the F6 and FM10. "Clerks 3" will never happen and here is why! As reported by Slash Film after Clerks 2 hit theaters in 2006, Kevin Smith was interested in making a third entry in the slacker comedy series. But alas, it was not to be. Smith had a script ready to go, and a budget set, but what ultimately killed Clerks 3 was the disinterest of one of the lead actors. During a recent “Fatman on Batman” Q&A, Smith confirmed that Jeff Anderson, who played video store clerk Randall in the series, didn’t want to return, which kind of put the final nail in the Clerks coffin. Teens are ditching Facebook A new study has confirmed what we've long expected: Facebook is no longer the most popular social media site among teens ages 13 to 17. The Pew Research Center revealed on Thursday that only 51% of US teens use Facebook. That's a 20% drop since 2015, the last time the firm surveyed teens' social media habits. Now, YouTube is the most popular platform among teens -- about 85% say they use it. Not surprisingly, teens are also active on Instagram (72%) and Snapchat (SNAP) (69%). Meanwhile, Twitter (TWTR) followed at 32%, and Tumblr's popularity (14%) remained the same since the 2015 survey.  Episode 076 "Breaking News: Good News Is Coming" | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:03:18

This just in! From FBI Warnings to facial recognition the world is a scary place. Don’t worry, the next story will cheer you right up! Sony has some more bad news with the beginning of the end of the PS4 line. Dang, well, you’ll just have to trust us, Good News is Coming in this episode! ----more---- FBI Issues Router Warning The FBI recommends any owner of small office and home office routers power cycle (reboot) the devices. Foreign cyber actors have compromised hundreds of thousands of home and office routers and other networked devices worldwide. The actors used VPNFilter malware to target small office and home office routers. The malware is able to perform multiple functions, including possible information collection, device exploitation, and blocking network traffic. Orlando Police Testing Amazon's Real-Time Facial Rekognition Tech companies are trying to sell police real-time facial recognition systems, which can track and identify people as they walk down the street. As NPR reported two weeks ago, American police have generally held off, but there's new evidence that one police department — Orlando, Fla. — has decided to try it out. In a written statement, the Orlando Police Department called the Amazon facial recognition system a "pilot program" and said it "will be used in accordance with current and applicable law." Beginning Of The End For The PS4 Sony’s has declared he PS4 era is entering its final stages. Speaking to investors, PlayStation boss John Kodera outlined the company's three-year roadmap and it seems console sales are not expected to be a major source of revenue going forward. This is largely due to declining sales which is, Kodera notes, typical of the usual profit- and life-cycle of consoles. It does also suggest a new console might be on its way -- likely the PS5 -- but Kodera didn't give away any specifics other than don't look for a new console before 2021. The Writing Is On The Wall For The Playstation Vita But Not For Sony Portable Gaming The Vita's shelf life is shrinking rapidly -- Sony is ending production of physical game copies and will stop offering free PlayStation Plus Vita games in 2019. It also dropped PlayStation Now support from the console last year. Rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it's necessary to continue thinking of [portable gaming] as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable," Kodera said on last Wednesday. The first part of that sentence especially suggests that mobile gaming will related in some way to the next PlayStation console (probably the PS5). Whether that portends a Nintendo Switch-style hybrid, a controller that has portable features or something else entirely is far from certain. Geek Off: Best Star Wars Character From Original Trilogy? First Look At Matt Groening's First New Show In Twenty Years Netflix released the first images of Disenchantment, an animated fantasy series that features the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon, and Eric Andre. Created by Groening (The Simpsons, Futurama), the show takes place in the crumbling medieval kingdom named Dreamland and centers on the exploits of a hard-drinking princess named Bean (Jacobson), her plucky elf friend Elfo (Faxon), and her personal demon Luci (Andre) as they match wits with “ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.” The Cast Of HBO's Watchmen Has Been Revealed and the Fantastic Regina King Will Lead Them Variety reports Regina King will play the lead character in the series, and she’ll be joined by Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard. Deadline adds that “King is believed to be playing Angela Abraham, while Gossett Jr. likely is Old Man. Howard is said to be playing Red Scare, Clemens could be Pirate Jenny,” but none of that is confirmed. “But wait,” you’re wondering. Since it’s Watchmen, who is Rorschach, the Comedian, Dr. Manhattan, etc? Well, just yesterday, showrunner Damon Lindelof explained that the HBO series is not a direct adaptation of the iconic Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons series. It’s both a sequel, and not a sequel. A modern retelling, but with familiar characters and situations. So, while the surviving characters from that series could appear in this new series, it’s not that simple. Ryan Reynolds, Michael Bay, Deadpool Writers To Produce Netflix-exclusive Film Brace yourselves! A massive action collaboration is coming to Netflix next year. According to a report from Deadline, Ryan Reynolds will star in a film titled Six Underground, to be directed by Michael Bay (yes, that Michael Bay) and written by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who also penned Deadpool 2. The movie will release exclusively on Netflix sometime in 2019. Weekly Garnish: ODroid-XU4 Based RetroPie This is a small board just like the Raspberry Pi but it packed more of a punch!  Episode 075 "Save the DRAM-a for your mama" | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:06:06

On this week’s episode, the guys discuss how much time they waste on digital platforms and social media, a potential collusion regarding DRAM, “perfect” games, and our own zombie apocalypse soundtracks! ----more---- Instagram Wants You To Know How Much Of It's Wasting Your Time The latest trend to hit social media is the acknowledgment that we all waste way too much time there in the course of a day. Instagram appears to be set to release a new feature that will tell you exactly how much time you spend on the app each day. On the surface it seems like a very pro-active tool to help people reign in their social media use, but is it possible they have other motivations? It’s all more data they can collect and how valuable would it be to be able to target ads to users that they know are using the app 5 hours each day versus just 2. New Lawsuit Alleges Anti-Trust Collusion Between DRAM Manufacturers A new lawsuit alleges that Samsung, Hynix, and Micron — which together control 96 percent of the DRAM market — have unjustly colluded to raise the price of DRAM from January 1, 2016 through February 1, 2018. The suit notes that RAM prices fell from 2014-2015, when the three companies were independently acting to increase DRAM capacities, but then sharply rose beginning in 2016 as all three firms decided to restrict DRAM growth to stop downward price pressure and to lead to a price increase.
