The digitalSoup is on! ----more---- New “High Performance Mode” to be introduced in next Windows 10 Update In a move to help users of high end pc’s get every last drop of power out of their machine, Microsoft is adding the high performance mode that will throw energy efficiency out the window in favor of faster performance. Is this because they want people to get the most out of their machines or they are trying to do their part in fixing the Intel caused slowdowns from the patches for Spectre and Meltdown?   Don’t use Huawei (Wah-Way) or ZTE phones, say heads of FBI, CIA, and NSA The heads of six major US intelligence agencies have warned that American citizens shouldn’t use products and services made by Chinese tech giants Huawei and ZTE. According to a report from CNBC, the intelligence chiefs made the recommendation during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Tuesday. The group included the heads of the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, and the director of national intelligence.   More bugs for Apple With a new software bug involving the Indian language characters, apparently people can crash other users iPhones causing messenger apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Gmail, and more to become bricked.   Apple HomePod, the white ring machine Users of the Apple HomePod are understandably upset by the response from Apple about the white rings left on their wooden furniture from the HomePod. Did Apple really just tell users to wash their tables and if needed re-finish the surfaces of their furniture?!   Valve removes all Insel Games from Steam for manipulating reviews Valve said that developer Insel Games was caught manipulating the review score for its games by creating many fake Steam accounts and posting positive reviews. This practice is not uncommon, but it’s nonetheless against Steam’s terms, hence the ban. Leaked company emails show In an email the studio’s CEO lightly threatened employees that they may lose their jobs if they do not comply. The CEO did offer to reimburse them for the expense, amusingly.   Nintendo Switch Linux Follow Up In a move to prove they had indeed hacked a switch, the hacker group fail0verflow have released a new video showing a Switch running a full Linux graphical interface.   Cobra Kai The first teaser trailer has arrived for this standoff that has been 30 years in the making! Only problem is that this Karate Kid series will be a YouTube Red debut, so it may not be as easy to see for some.   Feature length Kung Fury gaining some big names to the cast First, how awesome is it that we are getting a feature length Kung Fury! Second, why not add Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender to the cast, not to mention the return of David Hasselhoff, let the epic-ness begin. Kung Fury: The Original Short Film David Hasselhoff “True Survivor” Kung Fury Music Video   Incredibles 2 gets a teaser trailer Looks like Mr. Incredible is playing Mr. Mom as Elastigirl plays the hero!   Weekly Garnish: Essential Reading Before Seeing Black Panther If you want to take your comic book geekery to the next level, check out these 5 Black Panther comic runs before seeing the new movie(or add them after if you couldn’t wait and have already seen the film!)   Subscribe on Apple Podcasts Listen on Google Play Music Listen on TuneIn Subscribe on Stitcher   Be sure to subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts and leave a review, lets us know what you think.  You can reach us at the digitalSoup podcast website, Facebook or on Twitter @thedigitalsoup.  We are also on Instagram so follow us for extra bonus material and show highlights! Usually Dave, however, has a couple of interesting takes about the Spaceman cruising in his orbital Tesla Roadster. (MTV/Crime)   Best Buy Not Longer Selling Audio CDs With Target Not Far Behind There's not much reason to shop for CDs when you download or stream all your music, and big-box stores are reacting to that decline. Billboard sources have learned that Best Buy has told suppliers that it will remove music CDs from its stores as of July 1st.  Target, meanwhile, appears on the cusp of backing out. It reportedly wants to switch from paying for all music CDs and DVDs it receives (and shipping back whatever it doesn't sell) to only paying for those discs that actually sell.   Oh Snap! Secret iPhone Code Leaked! In what’s being called the “biggest leak in history”, proprietary code from Apple’s iBoot program, which is code that runs before iOS is started, was leaked to GitHub.  It went largely unnoticed for quite some time, so the code is from the older iOS 9 platform.  Apple also issued a takedown notice to GitHub according to theVerge.com.  As if that will stop the code from being spread.   Nintendo Hacked It appears that a hacker group going by the name of fail0verflow has found a vulnerability in the boot ROM of the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip that allowed them to install LINUX on a Nintendo Switch. Based on the info from the hackers, they claim it’s something that Nintendo can NOT fix via future firmware patches. The only fix is to build new Tegra X1 chips. If this process is shared it’ll mean game on for the game pirating sector which is bad news for Nintendo. Let’s how the Switch doesn’t find itself in Dreamcast land, killed by pirates.   GEEK OFF Be a dwarf from middle earth or a hobbit?   First Official TEASER Trailer for Venom We finally got a look at the upcoming Venom movie as the first official teaser trailer hits and while we see a quick glimpse of the symbiote in a lab, there’s still no footage of Venom. This trailer is all about Eddie Brock and sets up a glimpse of the origin of how he became Venom.   Top movie trailers dropped during the Super Bowl Here’s the movies that gained the most traction since their drop during the Super Bowl, the results may cause mild surprise.   James Hetfield to star in upcoming Ted Bundy film Who knew the frontman of Metallica was now an actor!   Firefly is coming back!! Episode 051-Organic Material Generates Elecricity Conversation   Basic cable bucking trendsLast week, two of the larger basic cable networks in SyFy and USA have decided to finally allow dropping F-Bombs in their shows.   Breaking Bad a Walking Dead Prequel Apparently this is a pretty big theory going around the internet and based on some recent articles, it’s a pretty convincing conspiracy theory!   Ant-Man and the Wasp The first official trailer was released and all we can say is it just looks FUN!   New Bill Mandates Replaceable Batteries in Consumer Electronics A right-to-repair bill that outright bans the sale of electronics not designed to be easily user-repairable.  Episode 059 "Photoshop Fails: Reese Witherthirdlegspoon and Oprah Withree" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:12:00

It’s a wild week with great stories about AmazonGo getting shoplifted from, rapper 50 Cent’s happy bitcoin accident, a sweet new Sci-Fi movie from Robbie and Stephen Amell called Code-8 and of course the big Vanity Fair Photoshop fail that gave Reese Witherspoon a third leg and Oprah Winfrey a 3rd hand! Not to mention Drew Carey getting tackled on stage, the XFL says don’t call it a comeback and much more! There is so much laughter in the soup this week you may bust a gut! ----more---- AmazonGo Store DID suffer a case of shoplifting on it’s first day! In an interesting twist from our conversation last week, it seems that there was at least one inadvertent bit of thievery happening, some yogurt. Best part is Amazon didn’t care. Linus Tech Tips “Shoplifts” Tampons From AmazonGo 50 Cent Accidentally Made $8 Million in Bitcoin In 2014, rapper 50 Cent let people buy his album “Animal Ambition” using bitcoin. He then let his account lie unused for years, and only just recently discovered that he’s now a bitcoin millionaire. At the time, a single bitcoin was worth only $662 and he pulled in over $400,000. Since then, the value of bitcoin has soared: the price of the cryptocurrency is currently worth a little more than $11,000. After sitting untouched in his account for years, 50 Cent’s earnings are now worth $7 million to $8.5 million, based on the current fluctuating bitcoin valuation.   Code 8 - The IndieGoGo SCI-FI Movie! This movie is looking awesome.  It is a mutant, people with powers type movie starring cousins Robbie Amell (The Tomorrow People, The Flash, The X-Files) and Stephen Amell (Arrow’s Oliver Queen).  The movie is in post production and has been funded by 20,000 backers on IndieGoGo.  The film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized.   Vanity Fair Photoshop Fail From extra legs and hands to missing appendages, this recent Vanity Fair cover seems to be a photoshop disaster!   XFL Returning in 2020! WWE founder and chairman Vince McMahon announced Thursday he is giving a professional football league another go.  It will be called the XFL, the same name of the league McMahon and NBC tried for one season in 2001, but it won't rely on flashy cheerleaders and antics as its predecessor did, he said. Let’s talk after if we actually want to do this.  Could be a little challenging/low-brow true true   Drew Carey tackled by contestant on Price is Right What can we say, she was super excited, he wasn’t ready for it and….well...watch for yourself!   GEEK OFF - What’s more likely, Dave plays Ark semi regularly or Jason puts up his mystery articles/videos?   Design your own NES games The future of the past is now or something like that! This fully funded Kickstarter is a system that allows you to easily code, design and produce your very own NES game that is then installed in an actual NES cartridge that is playable on the original tech.   Die With Me … the app you can only use at 5% battery life! If your battery has anything higher than a 5 percent charge, Die With Me won’t open up its doors; once you are in, if you charge up to higher than 5 percent, it will automatically kick you out of the room. It’s a place to bond, for a fleeting moment, with strangers sharing the same near-death phone experience, one with a built-in countdown timer on your conversations: what will you say in the moments before your screen goes black?   Speak, Fido! The update will also give ultra transparent info about your device’s battery health, a move unprecedented in the mobile phone space.   Nintendo Labo In what can only be considered a strange move, Nintendo has announced plans for an interactive maker kit for the Switch. It seems those new policies don’t actually impact the big name YouTubers, rather they seem to eliminate monetization for more and more small creators. WWE RAW Celebrates 25 years! Trouble at IGN and Spotify, is Apple looking to buy Netflix and some great X-Files and TV talk before we finish with a souper fascinating and terrifying new book about Anesthesia. We hope you brought your appetites because it’s a big helping of Soup this week! ----more---- Massive Intel Based Security Issue to Cause PC and Mac Slow-Downs While details of exactly what the security issues are have yet to be released, since they are working on shipping the huge update to fix the issue and don’t want to increase the security risk, it appears that a major security issue will be fixed with an upgrade soon. Bad news is that it’s set to cause a decrease in performance by up to 30% and will impact both PC’s and Mac’s. What you need to do based on a great article over on the Mashable website.   Intel Teams Up With AMD to Build Radeon Graphics on Core Chips Intel has announced the new GPU “brings together our high-performing Intel Core H-series processor, second generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2) and a custom-to-Intel third-party discrete graphics chip from AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group – all in a single processor package.” - https://www.engadget.com/2018/01/07/intel-amd-rx-vega-m/   Roku Set to Rock You In a move to expand it’s base, Roku looks poised to enter the audio game with a new line-up being dubbed as Roku Connect. While it’s not a full fledged automated home assistant looking to take on Alexa, it will focus entirely on entertainment and allow you to control and immerse your home in a terrific audio upgrade!   IGN Editor-in-Chief Fired for ‘Alleged Misconduct’ “IGN initiated an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Steve Butts. As a result of the investigation, the Company has appropriately determined to part ways with Mr. Butts,” Mitch Galbraith, IGN’s executive vice president, told Polygon in a statement.   Spotify's $1.6 Billion Copyright Lawsuit Could Be a Major Milestone in the Music Industry The lawsuit "alleges that Spotify is using Petty's "Free Fallin," the Doors' "Light My Fire," and tens of thousands of other songs without a license and compensation. The plaintiff is seeking a damages award worth at least $1.6 billion plus injunctive relief," according to Billboard.   Is Apple buying Netflix?
