Summary: This week on the digitalSoup podcast, the guys discuss the new Atari VCS, the Joker, psychotic AI, and much more. Soup is on! ----more---- Atari VCS Gets $2 million In Pre-Orders On Day One The Atari VCS Indiegogo campaign went live last week and, within a day, the project basically crashed the site by drawing more than $2 million worth of support. With a literal month left on its campaign, a total of 10861 backers have so far raised $2,864,392 for the console. Jared Leto’s Joker Is Getting His Own Movie According to a Variety report, the actor will star in and executive produce the film, which is said to be “paving the way” for additional Suicide Squad spin-offs. Warner Bros. had a film focused on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in development before Suicide Squad even landed in theaters, but the Joker news suggests that the studio’s efforts to turn Squad into its own mini-cinematic universe are solidifying. MIT scientists created a "psychopath" AI by feeding it violent content from Reddit A group of MIT scientists, according to Newsweek, exclusively fed an AI they created violent and gruesome content from an unnamed Reddit page before showing it a series of Rorschach inkblot tests. Needless to say, the AI (which they named Norman) only saw gruesome images of death and destruction instead of innocent images like butterflies and puppies. Again have we learned nothing from the movies?!? Hands-on with Super Mario Galaxy at 1080p on Nintendo's official Wii emulator Back in episode 52 we had talked about some Wii games coming out for the nVidia Shield in China and how strange it was for Nintendo to allow their first party games on a none Nintendo system. Well not only is Super Mario Galaxy playing fantastic on a Chinese nVidia Shield but it is upgraded to 1080p over the 640x480 the game originally was. Geek Off: Re-Cast Your Favorite Movie Sprint is launching a new $15/month plan for unlimited everything Sprint announced a new Unlimited Kickstarter plan that costs just $15/month. Marvel’s new Cloak & Dagger is a standout among superhero shows The titular superhero characters of CW’s The Flash and Freeform’s new Marvel series Cloak & Dagger came from the comics world and got their powers from exploding science experiments, but that’s where the similarities stop. It would have been easy for Cloak & Dagger to follow The Flash’s highly successful formula and have the initial power-granting incident produce a bounty of supervillains, which the protagonists would have to use their new powers to stop. But in its first four episodes, at least, Cloak & Dagger goes a different route by having them focus on real-world injustices. It was formed by two IT guys who, one day in 2017, decided to start a band together. They had both been playing music in different shapes and forms for 20+ years. Daniel handles the bass and sings/screams in the microphone. Per is the guitar hero and studio genius. The name started as a joke when they needed a name for the first gig. The ransomware WannaCry was in it’s prime and the name stuck, so they kept it. Wannacries are influenced by classic rock acts such as Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath as well as modern bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Stone Sour. Their trademarks are fast and catchy songs with a sharp, modern guitar sound. Since the release of their debut EP the songs have been played on a number of internet radio stations and Spotify playlists. They released their first EP Deadline King in January 2018. It has two original songs and two covers given the Wannacries treatment. Facebook / Instagram / Twitter / ReverbNation / Spotify / YouTube / Musicoin / iTunes
