And while everything is appropriately epic, the second season has just left it in the dust. The revelations of the first season are just outclassed by the revelation of the second season. Still, it’s great to look back and see the groundwork being done. For us to know Belos’s plan, we needed to meet him first. And that we did. That we did…

GC13 and Soren discuss Echoes of the Past from The Owl House. We have a whole lot more context for this than we did right after the episode aired and so much of it is still a mystery. We think we know what the intention was, but we only think… At least King is doing alright now. Even if neither of us believe that his horn piece should fit so well. GC13 and David discuss Cursed! and Fiddle Me This from Amphibia. Finally, Maddie gets her time to shine. She may be well-versed in the dark arts, but she’s a good witch at heart (Azura crossover when?), and would never curse someone just for breaking up with her by text. And Sprig is good with the fiddle. Like, really good. With a competition the next weekend, a mere nine days of training is all it takes for him to put on a flawless performance. Except for being eaten by a bat.

GC13 discusses the latest news after the great HBO Max purge. It wasn’t something any of us wanted to see. Numerous cartoons were removed from HBO Max, including such Lunar Sea Spire favorites as OK KO, Infinity Train, Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, and Summer Camp Island. Nothing more has come out officially, but Owen Dennis, creator of Infinity Train, has shared what we was able to learn and it’s the most up-to-date information we have.

GC13, Soren, and David discuss Agony of a Witch from The Owl House. This is it, the lead-in to the season finale. Lilith and Eda throw down with an impressive fight scene, and Eda finally learns why her sister was so insistent that she join the Emperor’s Coven. Of course, it’s not the penultimate episode of the season if it ends with everyone happy, and Lilith has us covered—King even made a cake. Don’t worry though Luz: the cake was King.

GC13 and Soren discuss Wing It Like Witches from The Owl House. If this is the obligatory sports episode, don’t you regret that we never got the obligatory beach episode? Luz is so good at breaking down tropes. We could have learned a lot from her (though nothing’s going to top the montage explaining what montages are). So, put on your Ricky soundtrack and get to hunting for that rusty smidge—there’s not much reason to play the rest of the game, is there?

GC13 and David discuss Family Fishing Trip and Bizarre Bazaar from Amphibia. A family-building episode, and a plot-advancing episode. Oh so slowly, anyway. Maybe as slowly as Anne is picking up parasailing. At least she has Sprig to show her how it’s done, and to maybe accidentally try to kill Sylvia. Whoops. So Hop Pop is actually a terrific actor. He had the entire bazaar eating out of the palm of his hand. But not the hand he had the blue shell in. That would be dangerous. And unbalanced.

GC13, Soren, and David return to season one of The Owl House to discuss Enchanting Grom Fright. Well, here it was: accidental Lumity. Accidental on Luz’s part, anyway—Amity enjoyed what she got. Luz even got to bring out her otter with a dark side for picture time, though the photo never made it into the episode proper. And don’t forget: the origin of the tree. You know the one. From Reaching Out. We’ll get there, we promise.

GC13 and Soren discuss Escaping Expulsion, continuing with The Owl House’s second season. Well, we’ve officially met Odalia, and she’s just as wonderful as we thought she was. At least she’s no liar: the Abomaton really won’t stop going until it’s killed Luz. And since Luz has to finish the presentation to get her friends back into Hexside… Yeah, she probably should have asked some followup questions. Next week we’ll be whipping back to season one, so look forward to that!

We want to discuss the last episodes of season one with David, so we skip for now. And what a skip it is. If you’ve already watched The Owl House then you know how much changes after season one, and even if you haven’t then you’ve probably figured that out already given how much foreknowledge we use when discussing the show.

In a world where wild houseflies are intelligent enough to serve as steeds and follow complex instructions involving not eating food, it’s probably a good thing their hairs are so fine, even on a very small scale. It just gets weirder where it’s also a world where someone would rather add an unpaid snack seller to the staff than cash in the largest bounty the nation has ever seen. It’s a strange world.

GC13 and Soren discuss The First Day from The Owl House. That’s right, we’re back to The Owl House! It’s Luz’s first day in a magical school. With a hat that can sort– we mean choose your coven track? Well, at least it’s not a boarding school… How much foreshadowing do you see in season one? How many callbacks? There are a lot of bread crumbs left in The Owl House to follow, even if they can be rather subtle at times.

GC13 and David discuss A Night at the Inn and Wally and Anne from Amphibia. So it’s another episode with cannibal frogs in one season. What are the odds? Probably a lot better than someone being careless enough to store vinegar right next to baking soda with Anne around—that’s a choice they’re going to regret. Plus, Wally and Anne have finally bonded. Anne’s come a long way in her journey since her stay in Wartwood first began, and it’s nice to hear her start learning from the master of not caring what anyone thinks.
