On this special episode of We Be Geeks, the crew from Geek Watch One joins us to discuss the best tidbits from the San Diego Comic Con.  We start off in the DC Universe as we discuss all of the DC movies coming out in the near future.  We then talk about Geoff Johns being promoted to president of DC before having a hearty discussion about Batman, the Killing Joke animated movie, which then leads into talk about DC Rebirth.  We move on to the DC television shows as we discuss the announcement that both the Justice Society, and the Legion of Doom will be featured on Legends of Tomorrow.  We also discuss the Arrow trailer, and our thoughts on the upcoming season.  We finish off the DC discussion by talking about the Young Animal line of DC comics that is being headed by musician Gerard Way. Next, we switch the discussion to Marvel as we talk about Agents of SHIELD and the announcement that Ghost Rider would be featured in the upcoming season.  We also discuss the possibility of Bobby and Hunter returning to AoS since Marvel’s Most Wanted has been cancelled.  Next, we discuss the relationship between Marvel and Fox, asking what will become of both the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.  Speaking of X-Men, we give our thoughts on the Legion trailer that was released by Fox.  We then talk about the announcement that actress Brie Larson will be playing Captain Marvel in the upcoming film, and give our opinions on that news. Moving on, briefly we discuss the teaser for Star Trek Discovery before moving back to Marvel with talk of Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and Mike’s desires for a Howling Commandoes and Deathlok Netflix shows. We talk a bit about some minor Dark Horse announcements, and some Spider-Man Homecoming morsels, before wondering if SDCC might have been a bit of a letdown this year.  After all, there was hardly any Star Wars news due to the fact that Star Wars Celebration was not that long ago (pun intended). The episode then weaves through talk of the new Justice League cartoon, questions on the status of both Damage control and Powerless, and then a lengthy discussion on the gang’s thoughts on cosplayers. We finish off the show by discussing the upcoming season of Walking Dead (stay out of the car, Carl!), the trailer for Kong, Skull Island, Disney’s Tower of Terror getting a Guardians of the Galaxy theme, the Batman Lego movie, the new Guy Ritchie King Arthur movie, and then the upcoming season of The Flash.

 WPG Ep 172: Pucks, Geeks & Riots | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:38

On this episode of We Be Geeks, we welcome Carl from the 4th line podcast, which can be found on the We Be Geeks network.  Carl tells us a bit about his podcast that focuses on hockey which then leads into a discussion about how some teams treat fans who wear opposing jerseys, the hockey playoffs, and Carl’s thoughts on expansion teams.  We ask Carl about some of the other things he geeks out about, then move on to talk about the Red Wings and the differences and similarities in the jerseys of the Penguins and Bruins. After the hockey talk, the conversation moves more to the geek side of things as we have a lengthy discussion about Captain America and the reaction to the recent major reveal in his Marvel comic book.  After that, we talk about fandom, getting Carl’s thoughts on American fans verses Canadian fans, and then talk about an article stating that fandom is broken.  During that discussion, we talk about social media’s effect on fandom, Star Wars fans who got upset about Disney’s cancellation of the Expanded Universe, and the extreme fans (aka fanatics) that can be found in both geekdom, as well as in sports. We move back to sports briefly as we discuss the Canadian Football League, fan riots, and then move back to hockey.  We ask Carl’s thoughts on television deals for the hockey playoffs, then bring up a story about a Lego statue that had been destroyed after a child bumped into it. We then discuss a story about actress Willa Holand blasting Warner Brothers for preventing the television incarnation of the Suicide Squad, which then leads us to question the claims by Marvel Studios that their movies and television shows are all connected. We talk about whether or not there might ever be a Green Arrow film, discuss reshoots that have been scheduled for Star Wars: Rogue One, and the disappointment that was the C-3P0 comic.  We ask Carl how he became a hockey fan, then talk about some cool yet expensive Star Wars merchandise before finishing off the episode with a discussion about accents, particularly Carl’s Canadian accent.

WPG Ep 170: Random Thoughts With Nicole Wright & Tonya Dodds | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:45:57

In this episode of We Be Geeks, the gang welcomes Nicole Wright and Tonya Dodds, formerly of Super Geeked Up, who are starting their own webseries called The Nicole and Tonya show. We start off by letting Nicole and Tonya describe their new series to us, then, the girls open up to a wide variety of topics. One of the topics we discuss is how Nicole and Tonya handle a working relationship living far apart from each other, including how they both write and film together. The girls talk a bit about how the seasons of their new series might be broken up, before talking a bit about some possible reoccurring bits on the show. The discussion then leads to ideas that might not be realistic for Nicole and Tonya to do on a miniscule budget to ideas that might just be too over the top to film. Since Tonya is from Toronto Canada, there is some talk about Canadian musicians, and a bit of discussion about Canadian sports teams can be found in the episode as well. Tonya begrudgingly admits to reading all of the Twlight series, which then leads into a discussion about Nicole’s entertainment background, including location scouting for film and television,as well as a mention of a feature film that Tonya has produced called Red Spring. The conversation naturally moves towards creating and the virtue of Collaboration with people before moving to talk of superhero movies and Netflix Marvel shows. Nicole and Tonya tell us about the magic of movie editing, and then tell us tales of meeting some interesting celebrities. The episode ends in laughter and shenanigans as we all talk about trips to Canada that naturally leads into a discussion of drinking. Nicole and Tonya were great guest who were very entertaining.  WPG Ep 168: Marvelous SciFi | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:36

This week we are celebrating Star Wars Day! News of Celebration headed to Orlando next year has Mike super excited. Could it be a future We Be Geeks meet up site? Star Trek is coming out with a new series, but you have to pay for a subscription service. That most likely won't sit well with fans, but it is Star Trek. If you make it, fans will watch. The Russo Brothers are changing the name of Infinity part 1 & 2, "stating that they are two completely different movies." Not sure how we feel about that, but hopefully we will get some news soon on what it will be retitled. Person of Interest is back for one last season. It's better to have an ending than to just cancel it. Maybe Jim Caviezel can play Batman now. Well a version of him anyways. Subscribe today on iTunes and Stitcher and leave a 5 star review.  WPG Ep 167: The Pros And Cons | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:13:32

This week, we start off the show by wishing our co-host Brett a very happy birthday. Brett then tells us about receiving the Star Wars: The Force Awakens dvd for his birthday which leads into a discussion about the extras on all of the Star Wars dvds, including a remastered version of the Boba Fett cartoon from the long lost, not so special, Star Wars Holiday Special. Brining up those fond memories leads the gang into a discussion of the animation studio Nelvana, and all of the fantastic cartoons put out by them, including a Doctor Who cartoon that never saw the light of day. Talking cartoons naturally leads into a discussion of Saturday Morning cartoons, and the We Be Geeks crew laments the loss of their childhood pastimes. From there, the crew begins a long discussion about Cosplaying, both the pros and cons of “professional” cosplayers, and their involvement with conventions. We express our feelings towards those who cosplay to become famous versus those who do it for the love of cosplaying, then talk about the way that cosplayers are too often treated during conventions in regards to boundaries. The discussion weaves towards the frustrating topic of nerd bullying, then moves on to the possible definitions of “geek” and “nerd” before moving back towards cosplay. Long lost co-host Julz makes an appearance towards the end of the cosplay conversation, sparking the group to change topics slightly as they discuss the issues Wizard World has been having with their conventions of late. With Julz on board, we then briefly discuss the introduction of the newest companion on Doctor Who, and then begin talking about our distaste for commercials on apps like Crackle and Amazon Prime. Next up, the gang discusses the announcement that actor/geek icon Nathan Fillion will be playing Wonder Man in the next Guardians of the Galaxy film, and we give our thoughts on that topic. After that topic, we talk about the latest clip from Captain America: Civil War, which features more Spidey goodness, and then discusses the latest trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse. Movie talk leads the group to mention the sacrifices Derrick has made for the group watching some bad movies, like the Fantastic Flop, so that they don’t have too. Julz mentions her excitement for the upcoming Angry Birds movie, and then Mike speaks briefly about the We Be Geeks affiliate Comic Bento Box, who has some interesting offers for our listeners. The gang mentions the fact that the Marvel Inhumans movie has been rescheduled, and then talk a bit about the possibility of Fox Studios finally collaborating with Marvel on some of their films as Sony has done with Spider-Man. We then shine the spotlight on DC as we discuss Jesse Quick coming to the Flash TV show, then talk about our thoughts towards DC’s Legends of Tomorrow show. There is some talk about the premier of Game of Thrones, which we tried to keep spoiler free, and a brief bit of football talk before the We Be Geeks crew signs off.
