A wish can make everyone special. Another beginning with a book. It begins with “Once night a long time ago…” The “fly down” to Geppetto’s window was dark and murky, but there was another fly down coming. Geppetto treated Pinocchio like his son. Geppetto also cared for all of his creations like his children, too. Geppetto’s “world” was created from wood, gears, etc. The water effect (Even seeing Pinocchio walking through Cleo’s fishbowl) was incredible. The clocks shows violence, drunkeness, spanking, etc. Figaro was jealous of Pinocchio, like Tinkerbell was of Wendy. Geppetto was smoking in bed. Geppetto’s Wish was that Pinocchio to be a real boy. Jiminy initially had not faith/belief in Geppetto’s wish “What a lovely thought, but not practical”. When Jiminy screamed for everything to be quite, he stopped all the clocks. No one will wake up on time. The Blue Fairy (partially granted) Wish #1 – She gave Pinocchio life, but didn’t make him a real boy, yet. We see a beautifully recreated London. In a way, it was like taking us there. It was a real place, not a Fairy Tale place. Peter Pan chose the house because they believed. This was a special group of children that believed. It could have been any group, but he chose them. Children still believe in magic, adults don’t. They’ve grown out of belief. Nana gave the kids tonic. I used to have to take Cod Liver Oil. Did Peter Pan give my parents this idea? Kids play fun games with dangerous things; Pointed wooden swords and hangers swinging at each other. Plus they’re jumping on the bed. We never were allowed to jump on the bed. Children teach us to have fun in the moment, today. They drew a Treasure Map on the Mr. Darling’s shirt front. Geocaching and letter boxing is a bit of treasure hunting today. Mr. Darling explaining that there is a difference between stories and reality, but in this story – belief made this story true. Moving Wendy out of the nursery and to her own room is a physical move from being a child to an adult. Mr. Darling wanted to remove her from the nursery (The land a childlike belief to adult practicality) Poor Nana. Nana had a lot of jobs in the Darling home, but one little tripping issue over the blocks and out she goes. “Everybody has to grow up” Can’t you still be an adult and still have a childlike belief. This animated movie had so much imagination; Flying to a magical island, shadows that separate from a body, etc. The music was Classic Disney music. You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly! A Tink with depth and flaws. Tink is a like a mood ring. She changes colors based on her mood. Peter Pan wasn’t very kind to Wendy, “Girls talk too much”, etc. Peter tells Wendy “You can be our Mother”. Even though Peter Pan made a place for Lost Boys who stay young, believe in magic, he knew that something was missing, a Mother figure. Someone to care for and nurture the group. Notice that Big Ben was on 8:15, the same as the clock in Storybrooke We get a fly over of London The pirates were very piratey and not Disney “family friendly”; Captain Hook: [grabbing Smee] I’ve got it! Tiger Lily, Smee! Mr. Smee: [nervously] T-T-Tiger Lily, Captain? Captain Hook: The chief’s daughter. She’ll know where Pan is hiding. Mr. Smee: B-B-But-But will she talk, Captain? Captain Hook: Oh, a little persuasion might be in order. Now let me see… Boiling in oil? Uh, keelhauling? Eh, marooning? Later on when Tink gives up the location of Peter Pan’s hideout (Hangman’s Tree) Captain Hook: [about to lower a bomb into Peter Pan’s hideout] And now, Smee, to take care of master Peter Pan. Mr. Smee: But, Captain, wouldn’t it be more humane-like to slit his throat? Captain Hook: Aye, that it would, Mr Smee.

Release date is August 19th. http://www.onceuponatimepodcast.com/ouatS3 Robin Hood show notes Alan-a-Dale referred to the song he sang as a folk song, but its sounded an awful lot like a country song to me. Folk music was big at the time, so maybe referring to a folk song might related better to the early 1970’s audience? Prince John was comedically evil. The snake face animation was incredible showing the 3d look of the face as it turned. It was interesting to see the Prince with psychological problems. Pretty bold for a Disney cartoon. Seemed a bit like the Smother’s Brothers. Robin Hood and Little John are master’s of disguise. Little John made a Medieval Haunted Mansion floating crystal ball. We see another mirror in a Disney animated film (Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and (so far) this one). Robin Hood is a reflection of Hope for tough times, like Once Upon a Time shows. It was a great choice of all the animals for all the characters. Great kid voices for the bunnies and turtle. What is “Oo De Lally”??? Boob jokes – in a Disney movie??? You will go from an Outlaw to a Hero, like the storylines of Season 3 of Once Upon a Time. Friar Tuck kept sipping Robin Hood’s burnt stew – Ewww. Lots of late 60’s, early 70’s vernacular and music (Hip Daddy Cat music). Lots of marching. Tail spinning and arrow flying by sounds made by a person? Maybe a you Ben Burtt? just kidding We see one crossbow in a movie filled with regular bows and arrows It was so great to see how the animals took care of each other, even when they were in jail, and when the church mouse gave her last coin for the church poor box. Sir Hiss was Prince John’s second in command, but Once Upon a Time baddies have no second in commands. Prince John’s guards shoot arrows like Stormtroopers shoot laser beams. Release date is August 19th. http://www.onceuponatimepodcast.com/ouatS3 Another animated Disney film that starts with “Once Upon a Time” BATB is basically a morality play teaching a lesson about not being selfish Never judge a book by its cover. Books are Belle’s treasures. Belle mentions she was reading a book about beanstalks and ogres. Another theme is that reading makes you a hero. The opening song that also serves as exposition of the story. Gaston says he wants Belle because she’s beautiful, but there are other beautiful women in town, maybe he sees Belle for more than beauty? The wolf chase scenes were chilling. There is a classic horror film look to some of the scenes; the gate, the castle, etc. The Beast entrance was scary, as well. Belle breaks many stereotypes; She says no to marrying the strongest man, she reads, she wants adventure instead of staying at home. Belle bold sacrifice – “Take me instead (of my father)”. The Beast wants her to stay forever (like Rumpel said in OUAT). Another classic horror story motif, the hunting party (or mob). Lots of classic Battle (or Misunderstanding) of the Sexes moments; Men can’t eat or handle their temper properly. The Be our Guest song was very Esther Williams and Busby Berkley pool or dancing number. (below) Picture of Busby Berkley section in Hollywood Studios’ Great Movie Ride Even dishes, chairs and lamps have destinies. We are shown an animated conflict resolution. “If you didn’t…” “If you had…” “Thank you…for saving me” “You’re welcome” Ripping the shades of the windows. He’s No Prince Charming. Hunters are bad. Subscribe Now via; Itunes | RSS | Stitcher Disney, Once Again Podcast 001 “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937) Podcast Episode 231 Show notes can be found at: http://onceuponatimepodcast.com/231 The multi-plane filming made you feel that you were crawling into these beautiful backgrounds. For a Disney “Family-friendly” film, there were many scary and violent parts to it. Opening with the Evil Queen section was a bold story choice, instead of the subject of the film. The animal and dwarf animation and jokes were so perfect. Snow White’s goodness balanced the Evil Queen’s evil, and yet they lived in the same castle. The story showed the Evil Queen’s 2 attempts at ending Snow White’s life. We get the whole story, and not just a linear story. The emotion of the Huntsman and Snow White scene was perfect relayed. Part of the film was a time capsule of a time when you could have fun; cleaning a house, making a pie and singing and dancing together. You didn’t need things, you just need to be together. Once Upon a Time connections – A Magical Book opens the film and the text “Once Upon a Time” started it all. The huntsman scene with Snow White was very similar. I thought that the pilot was so unique and it just hooked me the first time I watched it but now it just feels wrong. And finally, Frozen. This is what mainly is making me upset. Frozen hasn’t been out for a whole year yet; yet they are using it? I feel like the show has “jumped the shark” This is my favorite show of all time and I just hope they are careful. Reminder of Season 3 Promo posters Believe that a pirate can be a hero Believe that a lost girl can find her way home Those 2 where culminated in that scene, he’s her hero, he’s a hero and most importantly he’s her home and she is his. Those lost souls the abandoned lost boy and the lost girl neither had a good life but now they’ve found a home in each other. She thanks him for coming back to NY and then she asks him how he did it and he tells her how he outran the curse (I’m one hell of a captain) I was all for her finding out and when it happened I literally texted Lexi IT’S HAPPENING and I’m so glad they did the reveal after Emma realized what home to her was. Killian: They are if you’ve got something of value to trade Emma: and what was that? Killian: Why the Jolly Roger of course Emma: You traded your ship for me? Killian: Aye This scene is so meaningful and my favorite in the entire 2 hrs of the finale. Because Killian Jones is not one to admit it when he does things right (remember back in good form?) and this time he admits it knowing he can’t deny anything anymore. It wasn’t just his life it was his home it’s where the last memories of Milah and Liam are.. and he traded it all for her. And the look on her face, this is a person who’s not used to people putting her first and there’s this infuriating man who not only puts her first but he doesn’t run away from her when she pushes him away and he always comes back to her. He traded his home so that he could bring her home. That’s the moment her walls completely fall down at his feet. It’s such a beautiful moment and I’m still not over it.

I do remember beta max hehehe ( I’m younger but my parents had some beta max tapes) CS at Granny’s- Park – The fact that Killian offers to go after Emma speaks incredibly loud for the duo — he offers to do so because he feels he’s someone she may listen to, additionally, as far as I can remember, Henry’s very rarely trusted someone with the book and if that doesn’t tell you about how much he too has grown to care for Killian then I don’t know what will. Killian’s the kind of person who doesn’t need sugarcoating and because he and Emma are so kindred, he knows that she’s that way as well. He knows she needs to hear the cold hard truth, and what he manages to do in the midst of telling her she’s making a mistake, is uplifts her in the process. He makes sure she’s reminded of the greatness she’s capable of. No matter how many people have helped out, he’s always seen her as the best. She tells him she doesn’t feel like she belongs, because she doesn’t feel like she belongs in the fairytale stories and he reassures her as he always does. “One of these days I’m going to stop chasing this woman” and that was perfect because we know he didn’t want to go near the barn and yet he goes bc he would never leave her alone. And then she falls and he doesn’t hesitate for a second to go after her bc he can’t imagine leaving her alone. – The Marty McFly conversation was hilarious, and the interactions with Rumple were priceless.. I think Killian calling him mate was what fully convinced Rumple bc the past hook would never refer to him in that way. The clothing conversation was wonderful and it made Emma smile. Her face when she realized she was seeing her parents meeting was priceless, then she screwed things up but Killian states “because ...

Couldn’t he have just kept the real dagger when Belle gave it to him and be done with it? Does this mean Gold had some other motive in giving Belle, what she thought was, the dagger? Just a ‘move’ to enhance the proposal??? Seems odd. -Why did you assume that the book Glinda had was not Henry’s book? I haven’t watched the episode back, but I don’t believe she stated it was a book of “Oz’s” history…it was a book of all past, present and future….but maybe I missed something. If not, this would give us an insight as to the origins of Henry’s book. -Last week they dissolved flying monkeys with fireballs, this week they show mercy for their “friends”???? Maybe that explains where Rapunzel and Black Beard went. -The Prophecy…assuming Zelena has been defeated…which I have no clue if she is or isn’t…either Zelena was not Oz’s “ultimate evil” the prophecy was referring to, or if she was, and if she’s actually been defeated, does that mean at some point in the past Rumple was also sent to Oz via a tornado? I don’t remember the specific wording the prophecy, so I suppose they may get around it somehow. And…could the tornado the prophecy was referring to actually be a portal? Their shapes are similar. -Side note to the above…I think it would be in poor time management to kill off the main villian of the season, on the episode before the season finale. -Your theory that Dorothy was the actual “evil” the prophecy was referring to, making Zelena the savior, is an extremely interesting thought. I wonder how they would bring Dorothy back and explain what “evil” she was going to bring. As of now, we can put Dorothy in the throw away category with Black Beard and Rapunzel. ——————————— Maii I’m a bad listener I got so caught up in the spoilers for the finale I forgot to write my email sorry about that.. In that note can it be Sunday we need it to be Sunday.. Okay Kansas! I loved Kansas everything was golden.. As you can prob guess the CS part of this will be the longest so it will be at the end.. I think I might be in the minority here, but I actually do kinda of feel bad for her. I’ve been discussing back and forth with some others, and just don’t think people really understand the severity of Cora’s personal life. I know that giving her child away perhaps wasn’t the best thing to do, but I’ve been thinking, and really what kind of life would Zelena had had if Cora kept her? Cora herself seemed to be just barely making it, she even asked Johnathon to at least give her enough money to take care of the child. I believe that Cora would have kept Zelena under normal circumstances, otherwise why ask for financial support so that she can properly care for her. … Ultimately what I’m trying to say is that a lot of hatred for past Cora is unwarranted. Sure hate older Cora because she was just an evil woman who couldn’t feel because she had no heart, but young Cora was just a young girl looking for a way out of a horrible life, and made some bad decisions along the way, and I can’t really hate her for that. … OH! And also, I have a theory about the time travel Zelena plans to do, which may or may not happen. So Zelena is under the belief that Regina just had everything handed to her, that her sister just lived this amazing life, but we all know that isn’t true. If Zelena goes back in time, is it possible that she will witness the events that have unfolded over the span of Regina’s life and come to realize that Regina did not have it nearly as easy as she once had thought, and dare I say become more sympathetic toward her sister? Well, What a great episode. We had resolution on many questions, Henry’s memory, the whereabouts of the book, who sent the note and potion to Hook, who cast the Dark Curse, and what can stop Zelena. We also met Glinda, and learned the importance of Zelena’s emerald pendant. Talk about a full episode, but it never felt forced or rushed. But truly this episode was about Snow and Charming’s love. From the snowbell flower moment, to Charming’s sacrifice, to Snow pleading with Regina to take and split her heart. Snow pleading to Regina was so similar to when she was a little girl and was pleading at her mother’s bedside for her not to die. Yup, this episode has some heart felt moments. So we see Moe’s Game of Thorns flower truck, Zelena with a red rose, Charming and Snow with snowbell flowers, and Henry placing a red rose on his dad’s headstone. I’m open to any thoughts as to why the use of flowers in this episode? The “purveyor of the strongest light magic” can stop Zelena. Well, I love Emma, but me thinks this job will fall to….Regina.
