Sponsored by: Cache-Advance.com Streamed live on Nov 4, 2015 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: The guys reflect on how geocachng has taught them many things in life. The good, the bad and the ugly. Should make for a fun round table of discussion. Be sure to check it out! Please share with other geocachers. Always in life - Poke it with a stick! We can have any number of geocaching friends and acquaintances all around the world - best network of people ever. SB: With life in general; Mark your damn car! Most people really don’t pay attention to their surroundings Walking around all day with wet feet is not healthy. There is a big difference between “How Far” and “As the Crow Flies” I should have been an archaeologist! CS: Recycle! Many things in life can be re-purposed. The best travel advisor is only a pocket query away. Skirt-lifting is not always frowned upon, but never silent. As long as you know a geocacher, you have a friend. I have had many hobbies in my life, but none give me more family fun for the buck. TAZ: If you stare at you GPSr/Phone while walking you will eventually trip and fall on you face if not worse. Even in areas that you ‘know’ well, there’s more to know / see The shortest distance between two points isn’t always a straight line (i.e. look around the bend before diving into the woods) More about many subjects than I would ever have learned on my own through puzzle caches, earthcaches, wherigos, etc. How it feels to act like a spy at a deaddrop. ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed

GCPC EPISODE 424 – Trackables, Travelers and Other Geocaching Game Pieces | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:59

Sponsored by: Cache-Advance.com Streamed live on Oct 28, 2015 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: We go back to the basics about geocaching game pieces and their differences. Great discussion about travel bugs, trackables, geocoins, tags and hitch hikers. Be sure to check it out! Please share with other geocachers. We meet on Wednesday nights at 9:30PM ET at http://www.geocachingpodcast.com/live so you can see us record the show live and join in the chat room. See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/J0CaGmshKzU Show Notes Episode 424 GCPC EPISODE 424 - Trackables, Travelers and Other Geocaching Game Pieces Trackables Geocaching Definition - Trackable A trackable tag that you attach to an item. This allows you to track your item on Geocaching.com. The item becomes a hitchhiker that is carried from cache to cache (or person to person) in the real world and you can follow its progress online. Also known as Travel Bugs, GeoCoins. Geocaching Definition - Travel Bug A trackable tag with a unique code that attaches to an item. This allows you to track your item on Geocaching.com. The item becomes a hitchhiker that is carried from cache to cache (or person to person) in the real world and you can follow its progress online. Geocaching Definition - Geocoin A Geocoin works similarly to a Travel Bug® in that they are trackable and can travel the world, picking up stories from cache to cache. Geocoins are often created as signature items by geocachers and can also be used as collectibles. Difference Between Collection and Inventory Trackable Collection - The Trackables Collection is a list of Trackables that you have removed from circulation. You can select Move to Inventory if you would like to send the Trackable on another journey. Trackable Inventory - The Trackables Inventory is a list of Trackables currently in your possession. To "drop" one in a cache, visit the cache page and post a log while selecting a Trackable from the list. To place a trackable in your collection and remove it from circulation, select Move to Collection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just a thought: Geocaching RE-Definition - Keep Non Cache To Cache Items as Trackables IE - anything that does not physically go from geocache to geocache T-Shirts, name tags, auto tags, any other item with a trackable code Call any geocache items with a geocache ID that pass from one geocache to another as Travelers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pathtags, Tags and Hitchhikers Pathtags Definition: A pathtag is a small (1" diameter) coin that is left as signature items by some geocachers. The design on the face of the coin is customized, while the other side holds a generic design and a serial number. They're often mistaken for geocoins, but there are three main differences between geocoins and pathtags. The most important difference is that pathtags have nothing to do with GroundSpeak and are not trackable at geocaching.com. Another difference is that the tags are not individually trackable - all tags of the same design have the same serial number. While it is possible to track where the tags were logged, it is not possible to track the path of an individual tag. Finally, tags are usually meant to be kept by the finder, instead of being moved like activated geocoins. Tags Definition: Cachekinz, WildOnes, etc. A non travelbug tage with a trackable gc code. Works the same as a travel bug. Hitchhikers Definition: Geofleaz A tag that attaches to any other geocache game piece. It normally does not have any trackable code with it.

What happens if it doesn’t happen? Why should we all help with maintenance? Key Points: Summer can be rough in some locations leaving necessary maintenance , where winter prep can be mandatory in other locations. Make sure you want to go back out to do maintenance. Bring along your EGRK, you may need it How often to do geocache maintenance? Helpful Tips: Bring baggie and o-ring replacements when doing maintenance. Make replacements of cache containers that might require full replacement when performing maintenance. You can swap out, making maintenance quicker in the field. Follow your logs to be alerted of any unscheduled maintenance needs. Do’s and Dont’s: Don't put your plastic ammo can in a tree like an acorn. Do schedule regular maintenance at least once a year for your caches. More regularly for your high find hides. ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed

 GCPC EPISODE 422 – But You Can’t Do That Geocaching!?! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:10

See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/tKBbqFa37w8 Show Notes Episode 422 A quote from the forum: “Something many people don't realize is that many of the guidelines are there not primarily to prevent literal damage*, but rather to prevent a negative perception of geocaching. We don't want land managers getting the idea that some caches are buried or nailed to trees, because that gives them a good reason to ban geocaching from their land entirely.” LINK - http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=335241&st=50 Burying a geocache - Mingo example The debate of the hole was already there equals okay but if you have to make the hole is a no-no. If you place a new post to put your birdhouse cache on, is that not in a sense breaking the burying guideline? If someone else placed the pole there, can you use it for your geocache? Just because you have permission to bury a geocache from the property owner is it still okay to do it? What is defacing Property or nature? Putting a nail in a tree actually does no damage to the tree. Just because this is so should we still be allowed to do it? Screwing your geocache into or onto something without permission from the correct landowner is a no-no Getting Permission from the Right Person: Another example of "You can't do that...": ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed

(like a lampskirt after a 4 stage multi or a really hard puzzle cache). This drives me crazy. Please get some creativity or at least a freaking SMALL cache! Bad woodsy hides.
