Retired Combat Vet of 10 years, Husband to a retired Combat Medic of 15 years and Father to a kick butt Martial artist whom you all may have heard Miss Burgundy Rose, which I also Homeschool. Very Active in the community being retired i have a lot of time on my hands so I set up geocaching events that promote forms of Cito, 101 classes, MnG’s and everything in between. I am a Creative Geocache owner of nearly 200 active geocaches and have hidden almost every geocache type available, I am also considered by many as the leader for geocaching in the NWA area of the state and as such have tremendous support from the geocaching community. I am extremely Proactive have a can do and “let's try it” attitude towards life so the only limits I have are the ones I make. So how did I get into Geocaching? I heard about it off and on in youtube videos but never gave it much attention until I met my wife. She actually had nothing to do with geocaching and in fact knew less about it than I did, what’s so funny about it was I was introduced to it via a facebook conversation from her best friend that I have yet to meet in real life. So I really never had the first hand experience of having another geocacher introduce it to me in the field. What is it like to geocache in your state? Diverse and competitive is the best way to describe it. I have recently completed a challenge that required me to find all 75 counties of Arkansas and I can honestly say I have seen more of this state than most Natives. Arkansas is called “The Natural State” for all of it’s natural beauty, from the Ozark Highlands, the rice fields and river valleys, Arkansas provides anything and everything geocachers would like to look for...we may be landlocked, but we have scuba diving caches as well. In my “neck of the woods” I have helped foster a very competitive spirit to geocaching and forged many great friendships in the process. What is your favorite things to do while geocaching? At first it was simply to make the find, that grew like for most geocachers into learning about areas “in their own backyard” that they didn’t know exsisted, but as I have continued to explore and hide I started taking more of a leadership role early in my development in the community. Now I currently lead and participate in many groups and belong to committees in the States Geocaching Association known as ArkGeo as well as smaller more independent geocaching groups. My favorite thing is teaching others about geocaching, and to challenge the ones that have been doing it for a while to find new and fresh ways to hide geocaches. I hold monthly events to bring people together, keep people informed and introduce old faces with new ones. I have a geocaching facebook group where I hold monthly challenges in which people can win cool swag if they meet the challenge, and I work very close with the community and with the state to keep promoting the spirit of geocaching. Geocaching topics you feel strongly about either pro or con?

 GCPC EPISODE 471 – Geocacher Jesse Lunsford – Memfis Mafia | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:09

October 19, 2016 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: Our third of four guest GCPC host possibilities. Tonight Geocacher Jesse Lunsford aka Memphis Mafia will share insights about geocaching and why he wants to be a host on our show. Be sure to check it out! Please share with other geocachers. We meet on Wednesday nights at 9:30PM ET at http://www.geocachingpodcast.com/live so you can see us record the show live and join in the chat room. See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/Y6Fcx0FUPeY GCPC EPISODE 471 GCPC EPISODE 471 - Geocacher Jesse Lunsford - Memfis Mafia Tell us about you as a person and as a geocacher. Geocaching is a family affair in our house. We are a pretty tight family and it is a way that we can all spend time together. I’m a retired police officer and currently work in the emergency management field. When I’m away from work I want to have fun and get outside and play - geocaching allows me to do just that. So how did I get into Geocaching? We moved to Colorado six years ago which is when we really started geocaching. We were looking for something to do and a way to explore our new area. We ended up attending an event and ultimately met most of the people we know in the state through geocaching. We started by walking around finding the closest geocaches that we could with that horrible old intro app. We progressed from there to diving in and trying every aspect of the game we could. Ok I have to say that I actually cached before Colorado. A couple years before moving out here I found one cache. It was an LPC and basically we didn’t get into the game at that time. A buddy of mine pointed out to me that I left that part out on another occasion as he was the one who went with me. I can’t leave him out today because we are all meeting up in Chicago on the chance of what could be happening “no jinx”. What is it like to geocache in Colorado? Colorado is great. My wife and I met in College and learned very quickly that we both wanted to move out of Memphis and travel as much as possible. Over the years we traveled every chance we could but kept visiting Colorado. We loved the beauty of the mountains and just the feel of the area. Now, with short notice I can be hiking in the mountains away from the city and people and really challenge myself physically. Not every cache has to be off the side of a cliff but I really like when it takes that bit of extra effort and planning. We are lucky enough to have a great community of geocachers here in Colorado What is your favorite things to do while geocaching? My family all has their own favorite aspects but for me, it is the extreme stuff. I like the caches that take planning and push you just a little outside your comfort zone. Kristi and I met up with another cacher to plan our next geocaching trip. We are headed to the swamps of South Florida for a series of kayaking caches. On the last day we are going for a 5x5 Virtual. We have been planning this one for a while. It will be three days of caching, all by boat. We have to get plane tickets, a car rental, rent boats, find a place to stay… that is what makes for fun geocaching for me. Geocaching topics you feel strongly about either pro or con? I could probably fill a few shows here. My biggest pet peeve is people taking themselves and the game too seriously. It is a game meant to be fun. There is so much to the game that you have to be able to find something you like. I have opinions just like everybody but I’m not going to get down on someone else for whatever it is they like. I love to hike. My wife likes easy caches all in a row. Its not my favorite but I can still go out and have fun playing the game with her.

 GCPC EPISODE 470 – Geocacher Sarah Teesdale-Spittle – Infoferret | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:20

October 05, 2016 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: The next participant for the GCPC Host Call Out is Geocacher Sarah Teesdale-Spittle aka Infoferret. She is from New Zealand and is an amazing geocacher in her own right. Find out if she may be our first female geocacher host for the show. Be sure to check it out! Please share with other geocachers. We meet on Wednesday nights at 9:30PM ET at http://www.geocachingpodcast.com/live so you can see us record the show live and join in the chat room. See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/44SOGU-ln6E GCPC EPISODE 470 GCPC MAILBAG: Viewer Feedback: Guys, Thanks for reading my last note on the air. I tried to keep it short, thinking everyone knew what a 14er was. I was glad the chat room could come through for you. I also don't travel a lot and didn't know if there was another way. The answer to my question was to find the GPS coordinates of the particular peak, (Google was my friend in finding the GPS coordinates for the Peaks) then use Google Earth with the Geocache option on to locate possible caches, and proximity to Fort Collins. Grays Peak is the closest and a relatively easy hike. There are also two caches on the peak, a WhereIgo, and a traditional (GCQ8XV & GC5A3EY). My final step is to see how easy they are to find. Just thought you'd like to know. Merlin1392 aka Tim Send us your Comments, Ask The Host Questions, Milestones and Geocaching Adventures to GCPCMailbag@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- GCPC EPISODE 470 - Geocacher Sarah Teesdale-Spittle - Infoferret Tell us about you as a person and as a geocacher. I grew up Durham (a small City in the in the North-East of England), and moved to the midlands (Nottingham) to go to Uni when I was 18. Whilst I was there I met my other half, married and settled down on the Nottingham / Derbyshire border. In 2000, he got offered a job in New Zealand, and we decided to move from a UK summer to a Wellington winter and see how it went for a couple of years. 16 years later, we’re still here! We both work in central Wellington (the capital city of New Zealand), and have two boys. One is part way through University, the other is in intermediate school. We also share the house with an elderly cat, and far more books than we need (all of us at fault here), orienteering and other outdoor gear gear (the others) MTG cards (the boys) and knitting and sewing stuff (mine, I must admit). So how did I get into Geocaching? The rest of the family are heavily into Orienteering. I liked going to interesting areas most people never get to, but having to run around once I got there? Not so much. Anyway, back in 2012 there was an article in ‘Wilderness’ magazine (compulsory reading for the rest of the family), about a GPS based activity. I’d just got a smartphone for my birthday, discovered it had a GPS, so I thought I’d give it a go. Not the best of starts, as I tried to find the cache at night, in the rain, and not surprisingly got nowhere. Two days later, in daylight it practically waved at me, and I was hooked! I‘d lived in Wellington for over 10 years, so I thought I knew my backyard pretty well. Oh no I didn’t… I spent the next few months finding out more about my city , its people and history than I ever thought possible, and 4+ years later I’m still fascinated. This has got me to more areas than I thought possible. Without geocaching no way would I have been up before dawn heading out to an obscure track, or joining the rest of the family (or others) on a multi-day walk, carrying everything with me.

 GCPC EPISODE 469 – Geocacher Adam Demshar – Carrot Killer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:07

September 28, 2016 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: We start out our first participant Adam Demshar for the GCPC Host Call Out. Be sure to stop on by as we get to know Adam and see if he has all the right stuff to be a GCPC Host. Nachos are welcome but not necessary... See you then. Be sure to check it out! Please share with other geocachers. We meet on Wednesday nights at 9:30PM ET at http://www.geocachingpodcast.com/live so you can see us record the show live and join in the chat room. See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/N6hh54tbgPk GCPC EPISODE 469 GCPC MAILBAG: Viewer Feedback: Gang, We're planning a trip for my niece's wedding next June (2017), to Fort Collins, Colorado. While the family is not really into geocaching, I can't pass up the opportunity :-) What I'm looking for is a 14'er with a relatively easy cache at the peak. Since 14'ers are hard on their own, the trail needs to fun for those that may take part in the journey. Any ideas on how I would learn about this type of cache in the area? Thanks Merlin1392 aka Tim Send us your Comments, Ask The Host Questions, Milestones and Geocaching Adventures to GCPCMailbag@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- GCPC EPISODE 469 - Geocacher Adam Demshar - Carrot Killer My name is Adam Demshar. I am originally from a The Woodlands, Texas which is a suburb of Houston. I joined the Army when I was 20 years old and have lived in Georgia for the majority of the time since. I have lived in Germany for 3 years, as well as been deployed to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once. Currently I split time between Statesboro, GA and Augusta, GA. My wife and three sons aged 9, 6, and 4 live in Statesboro but I work at Fort Gordon in Augusta Monday-Friday and travel home for the weekends. I work at Fort Gordon as an AIT Platoon Sergeant. I am the equivalent of a drill sergeant for the Soldiers who have completed basic training but are learning their job specialty in the Army. Anyhow, I also Geocache! I am currently around 2,300 finds. I started caching in July of 2013. I was freshly home from Afghanistan and I saw a sticker on someone’s car. I think I had heard of it before a few years back but wasn't really sure what it was. When I got home I looked it up and saw there was a cache about .3 from my house. I was completely amazed right from the start. After finding a couple of caches I introduced geocaching to a friend at work and we started going out during our lunch breaks. Unfortunately that friend is only at about 250 finds today as I have obviously dwarfed that number. Currently I have a streak going for 305 days. Just a little bit longer until I can qualify for all of those 365 challenges! I have hidden 90 caches including events and CITOs. I have hidden every type of cache currently available. * One of my favorite things to do is incorporate camping and caching together. I have found that camping allows you to travel on the cheap and get to get out and see and do alot more. I am often caching with my 3 boys and that is always a sure fire way to get them to be enthusiastic about an all weekend caching trip is to let them know that we will be camping. I think I have heard you reference the Georgia Geo-Campers once on this show. I am fairly active with that group. They are a group of cachers who simply camp together at a different State Park in Georgia every month. It is really a great deal at $25 per tent for the weekend. There is always a campfire event and a stone soup on Saturday night. Even though I am often with my boys really what I like is the more difficult the better.

I am fairly new to geocaching having only played a few times over the past 12 months. I have been listening to your podcast off and on throughout this past year as well and am slowing starting to learn all the ins and outs of the game. On a recent camping trip a couple friends and I searched for a total of about 2 hours over two days for a D2 T3.5 cache and never found it. Later I realized that the cache description had some jargon which would have made it easier for us if we’d known what the terms meant. So I decided to look for a beginners geocaching book which would explain things and I discovered that there is a large selection of books on Amazon. Most have conflicting reviews across the spectrum so it’s hard to tell how accurate they are. Can you guys recommend the best one for a newbie? EarthCache pages include a set of educational notes along with coordinates.  GCPC EPISODE 467 – Is it Disrespectful To Geocache in a Cemetery? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:59

September 14, 2016 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: What is your feelings about geocaching in a cemetery? Are you allowed to in your state, country, etc.? If so should you? That is the discussion for tonight's episode Be sure to check it out! Please share with other geocachers. See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/jAW99NQpV68 GCPC EPISODE 467 GCPC MAILBAG: Viewer Feedback: Hello Geocaching Podcasters I heard remarks about geocaching in cemeteries on your shows, recall a story about a Pokemon-go ban in a cemetery on the basis that playing that game in a cemetery is disrespectful. This raises the question, is it disrespectful to geocache in a cemetery? I think the answer depends on who one asks, and what is being done or hidden, such as * a cache placed on the fence in surrounding a cemetery, or just outside the cemetery. * a cache placed in the grounds of cemetery, but in an area away from any grave stones. * a cache placed near the grave marker. * a mystery, virtual or multi-stage cache that requires finder to read information from the graves, and find a physical container away from the cemetery. Thank you stevenW54 Send us your Comments, Ask The Host Questions, Milestones and Geocaching Adventures to GCPCMailbag@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to StevenW54 for the show suggestion: Stevenw54’s areas to discuss: * a cache placed on the fence in surrounding a cemetery, or just outside the cemetery. * a cache placed in the grounds of cemetery, but in an area away from any grave stones. * a cache placed near the grave marker. * a mystery, virtual or multi-stage cache that requires finder to read information from the graves, and find a physical container away from the cemetery. Question for the hosts: Are there other sensitive areas that should be avoided or not? It’s okay for Pokemon but not geocaching or visa versa? Why? Tennesee it's Illegal for making any game in a cemetery. May not be completely true. US Federal cemeteries have rules against game playing in cemeteries. South Carolina went through a rather lengthy battle with the state lawmakers to the point where geocaching itself was targeted and nearly made illegal. No cemetery hides without permission. ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed

 GCPC EPISODE 466 – How To Create A Great Multi-Cache | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:42

September 07, 2016 In tonight's episode of the Geocaching Podcast: What is a multi-geocache and what can make them great? Calvert County Meet n Greet (OU0A15/GC6JFZW) was hosted by Krip's Curves and listed on both OpenCaching and Groundspeak. Dave / DudleyGrunt Send us your Comments, Ask The Host Questions, Milestones and Geocaching Adventures to GCPCMailbag@gmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- What is a multi geocache? What type of variations are there? Stages can be Physical or Virtual: Physical Stages: The cache owner has placed something at the location, such as a container, tag, or label. There is no minimum distance between stages within a single Multi-Cache. Virtual Stages: The cache owner has not placed anything at the location. Instead, a geocacher gathers information from features already at the location, such as a sign or objects to count. Virtual stages can be used to bring geocachers to locations where leaving a physical stage is difficult or not allowed. A Multi-Cache May Involve: A container or object that provides coordinates A formula for converting information found at stages to coordinates or clues Counting objects at one of the stages Simple arithmetic Simple ciphering (example: A=1, B=2) Multiple choice questions about something at the location A simple field puzzle A projection (using a compass bearing and distance from a specific point to determine the location of another specific point, usually a stage or final) Should it be Listed as a Multi-Cache or a Mystery/Puzzle Cache? - If a cache has multiple stages (virtual or physical) and can be found by reading the cache description and following the instructions in the field, it should be listed as a Multi-Cache. - If working out the clues requires advanced work or is so complex that many will need outside assistance, then the cache should probably be listed as a Mystery/Puzzle Cache, even if it is multi-staged. - If the listing coordinates are used to calculate a projection without the need to visit the location, it should be listed as a Mystery/Puzzle Cache. If a projection must be calculated in the field using bearing and distance from one of the stages, it should be listed as a Multi-Cache. What make the difference between so-so and WOW! What makes a so-so multi and what to avoid? Why do multi caches seem to be avoided in the US but not in other parts of the world? ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed

I have been caching for a while now but have not expanded my technological abilities much. Recently I decided I need to figure out how to run pocket queries. I am able to do that just fine but my question is how the heck do I get them to become available on my app? I am currently using cachly, you would think since the app is connected with my geocaching.com account they would magically appear, but this does not seem to be the case. Any tips? EB3754 Genoa, IL Answer from Nic at Cach.ly “Sounds like they are not generating the PQ correctly (on the geocaching.com site). They need to make sure they are checking the check boxes for which days to run the queries, once they do this, and get the email from geocaching.com it will be available in Cachly. Once they have generated the PQ online, it will instantly be available in Cachly. It just sounds like they have not yet generated the PQ.” What Drives A Geocacher? Challenges Gotta find them all Clearing out an area Hiking goals What to do when you get into a rut? Place a cache or two Have an event to meet new cachers Go out with fellow cachers, not alone Do some challenges or set your own How to avoid getting into a rut? Find different types of caches Work on challenges How to keep geocaching interesting? Give some good examples too. We tell people about all the amazing swag and untold treasures found in geocaches. Where we actually have quite the collection of Happy Meal Toys and such.. Have to admit I have found some pretty cool stuff over the years and heard some good stories as well. We tell people about all the amazing creative geocache containers we find. The majority of them are micros, bison tubes, pill bottles, and the occasional camouflage nano. They are not all P&G, found many an amazing geocache hide. Just have to wade through the ones with less thought for the fun creative ones. We tell people about the amazing geocaching community we have and it’s true. Sure there are always the few bad apples but as a whole. Geocachers are fun loving, adventurous, warm hearted people who share a common interest and are more than glad to talk to you about it. We tell people about the fun you can have in the woods, cities, swamps, forests, trails, fields, etc. We do not necessarily talk about all the snakes, critters, ticks, bears, squirrels, fire ants, poison ivy, stinging neddles and yes box of spiders. Yet we go out time after time, fighting our fears and anxieties to get our smilies. We tell people about all the cool adventures we go on. This is also true. Sure sometimes we can really put on a lot of miles while geocaching but we love the travelling that it entails. Think of all the cool places we have been to. The number of states we wandered through. All the scenic things we never would have seen if we did not go geocaching. ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed

See you there! #geocaching #geocachingpodcast #headhardhat #podcast ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Video Version of our Podcast https://youtu.be/qaoZdFjYQbA GCPC EPISODE 460 Mission GC souvenirs are available the weekends of July 30-31, August 13-14 and August 27-28. One week prior to each souvenir window, Premium members will receive an email with an "encoded message." Decoding the message will unlock instructions for securing the souvenir. Information is made available to Basic Members on the morning of the souvenir release via Geocaching.com, the Geocaching® app, Facebook and Twitter. Read all about it on The Geocaching Blog! Mistakes players seem to be doing: No Common Sense - When you have to tell players to stay out of mine shafts or active minefields (Yugoslavia)- the lines get blurred between the game placing objects in areas it should not and the players realizing the danger they are putting themselves into. Are we all now mindless Lemmings? NO RESPECT for where they go whether it’s trespassing or not. Geocachers have learned to respect other people's property Driving Skills - Geocachers have learned to follow a GPS and make it safely to ground zero - Other gamers - not so much article from today - Driver slams into Baltimore cop car while playing Pokemon Go. Games like PoGo and Ingress have a contingent of players who play the game while driving. Are we getting that lazy to not get out and walk? Location Placement - Getting permission as to random placement of key game pieces. I have found that games that give immediate reward tend to wain quicker once the shiny wears off or the rewards become more difficult to achieve. With geocaching you know you have to think/work for them. As much as we love to complain about them. You can really see why guidelines and rules are needed for an interactive gaming system. Otherwise you have chaos. There is nothing like finding a physical, creatively made container well hidden and a challenge to find. Think of all the different types of geocaches there are. Each with their own problem solving and deductive skills needed to find them. We try to combine activities with geocaching anyways (camping, hiking, photography, etc.) What is wrong with other activities as we geocache? ——————————————————————- LINKS Videocast Audio Podcast Google Search Geocaching Podcast Website Subscribe To The Show RSS Show Feed
