Fue fundada por los españoles el 18 de enero de 1535 y como capital del virreinato del Perú fue la ciudad más grande e importante de América del Sur durante el régimen español. La ciudad capital es el principal punto de entrada al Perú y en ella se puede disfrutar tanto de sus centros arqueológicos pertenecientes a civilizaciones anteriores a la época incaica, el centro histórico, museos, vida nocturna, festividades etc. El centro histórico de Lima, el cual fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en el año 1988 debido a su importancia durante el Virreinato del Perú dejó como testimonio varios legados arquitectónicos. El estilo barroco y renacentista se puede apreciar en las iglesias construidas durante la época del virreinato. Destacan la Basílica y Convento de San Francisco, la Plaza Mayor, la Catedral de Lima, entre otros.
