The big news today is protests in Iran. One report is that the U.S. warns 'world is watching'. Another says, "Protests over alleged corruption and rising prices spread to Tehran." Another report Iranian protests: Government supporters in show of strength. Well that's quite a spread. Which is it? Government supporters or anti-government activists? President Trump Tweeted about the issue. Isn't amazing one person can send out a Tweet and all the sudden millions of people shift their attention to something? I find that fascinating but we'll have to talk more about that phenomena another time. Today I want to talk about Iran. What are we really talking about? Is this a sign of some big change in Iran? The New Year is just a few days away, what resolutions do you have for next year? What area of your life do you want to see change? After the hangover of New Year's Eve wears off and you look in the mirror what will you be saying to yourself? The real question is once you've decide to do something or change something what are the chances you'll stick with it? What are the chances you'll ever even get started? I'm going to say statistically speaking right about zero. Given the probability of people actually sticking to New Year's resolutions you have just about no chance of succeeding. Where do you stand on gun control? Do you think guns are bad and if they would just go away all gun violence would magically come to an end? Or, do you believe in the constitutional right to bear arms? Really, many of the founding fathers believed it was more than a right. They believed it was an obligations, a responsibility to carry a firearm. Why such a profound difference in ideology and what's changed? Why is it people are so divided on gun control? Where do you get your news and how confident are that you're getting accurate truthful information? I'm guessing you don't have a lot of trust in the media and I base that on survey after survey that shows most people don't trust the media. Here's the bigger question, why do you put up with it? Entertainment value? What good is that? If I started a show by saying hey, I'm going to spew out a bunch of nonsense here and you'll probably just be pissed off and frustrated by the end would you want that? Of course not. So why do you keep tuning to cable news? All the mainstream media outlets to one degree or another play psychological and emotional games. I know they do a great job of telling you how they're the most trusted name in news or how fair and balanced they are but that's all misleading too. Add to that all the garbage that floats around on Facebook and we have the new age of fake news. Plainly fake news that only serves to cause trouble. It creates misinformation. Congress passed a new tax bill that they are saying is the largest tax cut in history. Great, at least if it works out that way. The whole controversy seems to be who's getting what like a bunch of spoiled little kids. The president promised it wasn't a tax cut for the rich but people arguing that it is a tax cut for the rich. Well recently Warren Buffet chimed it. He's one of the wealthiest self-made men in the world and someone who, generally speaking, I have a great deal of respect for. Christmas in combat. You might say oh that sounds horrible we should feel bad for everybody deployed right now. I have to tell you as a young Marine I really didn't mind being deployed over the holidays I think my four years in the Marine Corps I spent one of Christmas at home Either because I was deployed or I was too far away to afford flying home but either way I didn't really mind being in combat during Christmas. And I seriously doubt whether any young Marine would prefer to be home over being in combat at Christmas. I don't know I'm sure to some are you at sounds pretty freaky but I don't know if you've never lived it you probably just wouldn't understand it Is it a sacrifice I suppose but quite frankly for me personally it was an honor and I think a lot of other Marines would feel the same way. I can't speak for the other branches I don't know what they have to say about it. But you know there's lots of other people that make sacrifices in terms of giving up holiday talk time with family. The police don't get to just stop because it's Christmas in fact some of these departments will be working overtime horrific things still happen on Christmas sometimes at an increased rate as people fall into depression. You got doctors nurses and medical staff and a whole bunch of other people that have to keep working on Christmas. And we should all be thankful for the sacrifice those people make but this show is about Christmas in combat. So hit the play button! Amid the many celebrations Christmas Eve, in various places by different persons, there was one, in New York City, not like any other anywhere. A company of men, women, and children went together just after the evening service in their church, and, standing around the tomb of the author of "A Visit from St. Nicholas," recited together the words of the poem which we all know so well and love so dearly. Dr. Clement C. Moore, who wrote the poem, never expected that he would be remembered by it. If he expected to be famous at all as a writer, he thought it would be because of the Hebrew Dictionary that he wrote. He was born in a house near Chelsea Square, New York City, in 1781; and he lived there all his life. It was a great big house, with fireplaces in it;—just the house to be living in on Christmas Eve. Dr. Moore had children. He liked writing poetry for them even more than he liked writing a Hebrew Dictionary. He wrote a whole book of poems for them. One year he wrote this poem, which we usually call "'Twas the Night before Christmas," to give to his children for a Christmas present. They read it just after they had hung up their stockings before one of the big fireplaces in their house. Well the republican congress actually accomplished something. I guess that's good. Are you excited about the tax cuts? I haven't had a chance to read the new law at all and I probably won't. I'll just wait and see what happens to my pay check. If it goes up I'll be happy. If it goes down I'm going to be pissed. So we'll see. I love how many people have such strong opinions about it when all they know about it is whatever some talking head on TV has said about it. It's unbelievable to me what sheep people are. Not even considering the idea of actually checking and thinking for themselves. By the way I've figured out how to win any political argument and the results are running pretty much 100%. I guess when people see how big I am maybe think I'm just big and dumb. And, you can debate that (laughing) and I've never professed to be the smartest guy in the room. But, I'll tell you 2 things. I remember things like an elephant and I don't miss much. So to take a position that I don't know what I'm talking about is probably a mistake. And, I'll be the first to tell I don't know everything about everything. But, here's the way I've been winning arguments. And by winning arguments I mean winning hearts and minds. Changing people's way of thinking. Let me tell you that's a gift. A powerful gift I'm thankful for and take very seriously. Winning hearts and minds that's why I'm America's Culture King! The NFL's image just got a little worse with the release of a video showing the arrest of Malik McDowell at a nightclub in Atlanta Georgia. Drunk little Malik apparently grew some beer muscles, verbally attacked a female officer and yelled racial epithets at the arresting officer. But drunk and disorderly isn't what this is about. That happens all the time. Have you noticed you don't hear much about the NFL anymore? What happened? Just a few weeks ago it was BIG news. NFL players were kneeling for the national anthem and THAT was the big story. The whole country was talking about it. Some people fought for it, some people fought against it. NFL ratings tumbled but the game goes on. But, why isn't it news anymore? Maybe that's a good thing kind of a cooling off period and now this rookie just brought more negative press. The NFL's problems kind of took off with the whole kneeling for the anthem thing. And what was that really about? I mean look, if this cause of the players was sooooooo important that they would destroy their entire industry over it, that's what they did they destroyed the industry. If it was that important where did it go? What happened that all of the sudden it's not important anymore? Nobody cares. Nobody cares about the protest and nobody cares about the NFL. Why? Have you ever noticed how some people are constantly achieving and doing great things while other people struggle to get by? What's the difference? Luck? Why is it some people seem to rise to the top, at work in business and some people can’t seem to ever get a break? How do you fit into all that, and what do you chalk it up too? I hear a lot of people talk about living their dreams. What is that? I don't maybe I'm just a little cynical but how many people really live their dreams? How many people even have a dream? Some do, I'm not doubting that. But, maybe I'm a realist too. I was listening to one of my favorites the other night Les Brown. Incredible speaker. His message is "You have greatness with in you". Do you feel that way about yourself? Do you genuinely feel like you have greatness within you? Can you honestly say that? Let me put it this way, if you feel you have greatness within you. If you feel you have maybe some untapped potential or the ability to accomplish something great, what are you doing about it? Look you can't get all pumped up, develop some super clear vision of your perfect dream and absolutely convince yourself you can do it but so what? What does all that rah rah do for you at the end of the day? I have a different way of looking at all this. And, before I get into I'll say two things. First there probably is greatness within you but finding what it is is another story but I'll tell you how to deal with that. Is it me or are most democrats pissed off? Their mad at Trump, their mad at white people, their absolutely insanely pissed off at old white men. I better careful I'm starting to fall into that category. What did I do? What did I do that people are so angry at me for be a straight white guy that happened to make it almost to half century mark? Seriously, have you noticed the hostility of democrats? This ISN'T just the media. You know what I'm talking about. If you have any liberal friends on Facebook you know exactly what I'm talking about. They're attacking everybody. Trump. He's an automatic. If you voted for Trump as far as most democrats go you're a stupid loser not even WORTHY of being around a modern day liberal. They hate the police. They despise the military. If you're black and you support anything Trump they hate you too. If you're not gay they hate you. Even though most of them aren't gay. I don't quite get that. Kind of funny right. Straight white people hating straight white people for being straight and white. How's that work? No wonder their confused. I'll tell you what I think the problem is. Hope and change turned out to be a disaster. Hope and change based on the principles they bought into didn't quite work out. Obama got elected and some people were expecting free health care, free college, you wouldn't have to work if you didn't want too. You would be free to pick your gender, pick your child's gender. What do you think the biggest threat is to this country and our way of life? I had this conversation with a guy recently and when I told him where I was coming from he was blown away. Nobody is talking about this the way I'm laying it out there but once I explain it people see it right away. The guys I was talking to the other day is a black guy and he started talking about division in America. How divided we are. He articulated the whole thing well and I agreed with some of the points he made. He said he thought the making of a race war were in place and that's a mantra I've heard coming from plenty of white people too. I asked him, I said why is that? Why do you think there's a race war brewing? I said look I don't know you, I just met you. You're black I'm white and were getting along just fine. How do you see a race war brewing?  He had a fascinating answer to that. I realized right away the HE, like a lot of other people, like most of the rest of the country has been duped by the politicians and main stream media. Those corrupt people, some that are completely lacking in integrity have duped us. They've fooled us. They've pit us versus them except the them is us. Black, white, Latino, Asian it doesn't matter we're all Americans. If that doesn't work they go for political affiliation. It's an age old tactic to build support - find a common enemy even if you have to make it up. And, we've been fooled into thinking that all the problems are THEM when it's US! What would you do if you were sitting in church and someone opened fire with a gun? Just imagine the scene for a second. You're sitting in church, maybe your kids are in the nursery or kids church. You're sitting in the pew listening to a sermon, reflecting on the message maybe thinking about what it means to you. Maybe thinking about your relationship with God trying to make sense, trying to find peace in a crazy world and all of the sudden the unthinkable happens. Gun shots. What would you do? Have you ever thought about it? Or, do you take the it will never happen to me approach? But it does happen, probably more than you think. Church shooting, mass murders, slaughters of church goers when you think about it rates right up there with the most heinous of crimes. Innocent people, women, children being gunned down in a place they'd least expect it. This weekend I was in London Ohio visiting my friend and Marine Corps brother Jarad Williams who owns and manages EGA defense. He owns a gun range, CCW training and consulting. I had a rare opportunity to spend the weekend with him one on one, shoot with and watch him speak for nearly 3 hours to a group of over 100 church leaders and parishioners.
