April is Financial Literacy month so I thought we'd take a look at teaching finances to our kids! Gregg Murset is the CEO of BusyKid, a new website that helps parents teach their kids the value of money in a modern world. Nearly one quarter of US states receive a failing grade when it comes to teaching kids personal finance in schools. Twelve states don¹t attempt to teach it at all. This could be one of the reasons that only 35% of credit card users don¹t carry a balance and pay off their bill every month, and that only 1 in 3 Americans is saving for retirement. We don¹t expect kids to learn how to read, write or drive without instruction, but another essential life skill, money management is ignored for the most part. In this episode we are breaking down how parents can start teaching the value of money to their kids at an early age. Don't forget to subscribe to Motherhood in Hollywood on iTunes. I was so thrilled to meet Jessica Hall and get some insights into her world. She is a Playboy Playmate, model, actress and tv host and is expecting her second child this year. I wanted to talk with her because her experiences in this town are vastly different than might, and yet we are united by the world of motherhood. I have never been a sex symbol or a model of any kind so I was curious to know how her experiences will affect her parenting style, if at all, and her career. Jessica was very honest and open about her life and I'd love to hear what you think of her philosiphy. You can see Jessica on WeTV's "Kendra on Top" alongside her best friend Kendra Wilkinson. I was invited to the grand opening of WeVillage daycare in LA where I had the chance to speak with investor Rebecca Romijn and her husband Jerry O'Connell about why they love the idea of flexible childcare. They became fans of WeVillage while Rebecca was filming her show The Librarians in Portland where the first WeVillage is located. This is a quick BONUS episode of my podcast and I'd love to hear what you think. Do you need flexible childare in your area? Don't forget to subscribe to Motherhood in Hollywood on iTunes. My family and I have been planning a trip to London for 4 months. Last week, a terrorist killed 4 people, including a police officer, minutes after we walked past Parliament on the Westminster Bridge. Over the next several hours I did live reports for various media outlets around the US. It was not the vacation experience we planned. But in this episode my husband and I talk about what happened in the hours after the attack, and how we were able to move past it and still enjoy our time in London. Christine has been a star almost her entire life and I immediately felt like I was talking to an old friend. Her birth story is raw, and honestly it made me cry which I wasn't expecting. A wonderful side effect of being a mom now is that I cry at the drop of a hat. I think every parent will be able to relate to her story and find a bit of themselves in there as well. She's grown up in the business and continues to work to this day. Most people would recognize her from her breakout role as "Al" in the 90's sitcom Step by Step. She's been on a slew of TV shows like 7th Heaven, Veronica Mars and even created her own docu-series Lovin Lakin. And now she's jumped into an exciting new project with fellow 90's stars Jodi Sweeten and Beverley Mitchell called Hollywood Darlings. Don't forget to subscribe to Motherhood in Hollywood on iTunes. 50 Shades Darker was released in theaters this week so I asked erotic novel author Vanessa Fewings (Enthrall, The Chase) to share her insights on the popularity of the genre. She talks about her own story of self-publishing and growing a fanbase of people in the BDSM world, and why she thinks it's becoming more mainstream. (50 Shades of Grey plays a big part!) This week Channing and I helped kick off Disney’s Magic of Storytelling campaign, an ongoing initiative aimed at inspiring imagination and a lifelong love of reading. We went to a special event at our local Disney store to join Elena of Avalor in reading our favorite books! While we were there I got to interview a member of the Royal Guard. Jorge Diaz voices the character of "Gabe" on Elena of Avalor and shared with me what it's like to be a part of such a ground breaking animated series. He also talked about how his own life was inspired by books his mother read to him as a child. Don't forget to subscribe to Motherhood in Hollywood on iTunes. Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss is not a lesbian. And she has no problem telling you that or about the reason her sexuality is a topic of discussion these days. It all comes down to one thing...Drama. I had so much fun talking to Kandi about the drama on her show and how she's not afraid to speak up if someone throws shade her way. This is her 8th season as a cast member on Real Housewives of Atlanta. And if you don't know by now, she's more than just a housewife. She's a singer-songwriter, record producer, business woman and mom. She's also a former member of the girl group Xscape. Don't forget to subscribe to Motherhood in Hollywood on iTunes. My guest this week is actress, mom of two boys and self-proclaimed feminist Laura Nickerson. She was at the Women's March in Washington and I invited her on the show to talk about why she marched and what she experienced. Nearly half a million people marched in D.C, and millions more marched around the world for women's issues they feel are being threatened under President Trump's administration.
