 Episode 133A – Year in Review | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:50

Welcome to the new year and the year in review. The DG Podcast is still going even after all this time. We have made over 133 podcasts since we first started and we plan on making many more. So, moving forward into the new year, we hope that you come to your senses and start listening. What's Going On Jason has been playing Destiny, working his way through the Taken King. He also watched Doctor Who. Doctor Who does a Christmas special (weird, I know) and for the first time it was being aired in the US and the UK on the same day. So, BBC America had a Doctor Who marathon leading up to the Christmas episode. He hasn't seen the episode yet, but he needs to get caught up on the New Doctor. Rhett has been Unfortunately we have no email from Chance this week. Year in Review We have a change from the usual for this episode. Today we review the year instead of the news. This year has brought us some good developments and then there were other things. On the good side, we have the Final Fantasy VII remake, Shenmue 3, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Battleborn, etc. On the other side we have had rampant, almost militant, hate for even the smallest difference of opinion, the Fantastic Four, Arkham Knight on PC, Konami and Kojima have a falling out, etc. Rhett and Jason both talk about the things that were their favorite points from the past year. Jason didn't have any video game that he wanted to give the highest mark for the year. His favorite movie has been Star Wars, though there was quite a bit of disappointment attached. Rhett's favorites Let us know what you think about the topics discussed tonight by commenting on our Twitter account, comment here on blog, or go to the forum.  Episode 132B – The End of the Year | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:42

Now that Christmas is over and you are looking for something to fill the void in your life that can only be filled by next Christmas, you have time to listen to the DG Podcast. We promise not to change your life, but we will laugh at you whether you like it or not. It's one of the many free services we provide. You're welcome What's Going On With Christmas just ended, Rhett and Jason talked a little about the gifts they either gave or received this year. Rhett got a handcrafted box fron Lindsay (it is way cooler than it sounds). He also got a hat from his mother. The had used to belong to his grandfather when he was in the navy. All in all he was pleased with his gifts. Jason was also pleased with his gifts. He got a book by one of his favorite authors. He also got Arkham City. He has yet to play the game. Hes's been playing the games that his kids received, one of which was Duck Tales Remastered. The End of the Year We promise to be more organized for the final podcast of the year. Jason was in charge and you know how that goes. We talk about this and that, mostly Star Wars the Force Awakens and Cryptids. Yes, we are rehashing Star Wars. There is a lot of blind love for this movie and we feel the need to inject a little reality into the mix. The cryptids are one of the things that appeals to Jason. He likes reading about UFO, conspiracy theories, cryptids, and unexplained phenomena. If you don't know what a cryptid is you have earned a desultory shake of the head. Cryptids are things like bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, the Jersey Devil, and others. There are certainly more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy, but the fact that we have no proof, or highly suspect proof at best, of these beast should give us a hint don't you think? Legendary Battle of the Classic Video Game Characters The time has finally come for the throw down between Earthworm Jim and Sam and Max. We gave some clarification on the comicvine post and we are ready to rumble. Jim is an earthworm wearing a supersuit. It gives him superstrength, a blaster, and a pocket rocket. He can also use his head/body as a weapon/implement. Sam and Max are the Freelance Police and are not afraid to take the law into their own hands. Max is crazy and hard to control. Sam is a six foot tall anthropomorphic dog who carries a big gun. Who wins? Next week Sir Arthur from Ghost and Goblins will fight to the death against Strider Hiryu.  Episode 132A – The Nerd Dump | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:31

It is now Christmas Eve, and what are we doing? Christmas activities? No, we are recording the DG Podcast. You won't get the episode until Christmas, so Merry Christmas and you're welcome. That's what we are all about, providing gifts for our listener. What's Going On Jason has been busy with Christmas things. Having kids will do that. He did get rid of a bunch DVDs that he didn't want. There were around 177 of them. He'd gotten them when his father-in-law foreclosed on a tenant. Rhett has been more active in the geek department. He's been finishing Fallout 4, and not getting addicted. Chance did send an email this week. It was short notice, but he still managed to send it. He's had his own Christmas activities. He's also played Fallout 4 and decided that he will buy it when the price drops. For the rest, you can read it in his own words. The Nerd Dump The geektacular news dump for this week: * Hopefully the Resident Evil movie will result in zombies * Uncharted 4 Delayed Again * I SWAT your bill * Your brain is different * The new gaming race wars are coming * Video games and confessing to a crime * Hackers hate Christmas * Fallout 4 is like crack * Kojima back again * Please Stop Spreading This Nonsense that Rey From Star Wars Is a "Mary Sue" * There's One Thing I Totally Hate About The Force Awakens The last two articles on the list are from Kotaku, and you know how much we like Kotaku. However, the first article makes a good point about the new Star Wars film while the second whines about the (appropriate) mis-characterization of Rey as a "Mary Sue". If it isn't one thing its another. Let us know what you think about the topics discussed tonight by commenting on our Twitter account, comment here on blog, or go to the forum.  Episode 131B – The Super(man) Episode | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:06

The Super(man) episode is our followup to the previous Star Wars centric episode. We had a great time with the Star Wars episode and hope that we ruffled a few feathers with it. We even talk about the movie again, but that isn't the entire focus of our show. We talk about Superman. We also mention Batman a bit, but don't get your hopes up. What's Going On Not much is going on that was a huge change from previous weeks. Rhett hasn't been getting through Tomb Raider. He's been trying to finish Fallout 4. He's finally progressed to the point that there's nothing else to do but the main story quest. Jason has been keeping busy with Christmas plans. There's been some Destiny playing, but not enough. He did come up with tonight's topic because of some recent reading though. There was also the snafu with the audio for the last show. He's been working on fixing that. Superman: The Movie Fails Jason recently read an article about Superman, specifically the Superman movies. Have you ever wondered what happened to Superman after the fourth movie. Well, we have some answers for you. There have been almost 15 separate attempts at creating a new Superman movie between the bomb that was Superman IV: The Search for Peace and Superman Returns. The stories get really wild from changing his powers, to rewriting his entire backstory, to giving him angst over his alien heritage. He was even slated to fight a giant spider in one iteration. In the same story that would have seen Superman fight a giant spider, Brainiac would have fought angry polar bears guarding the Fortress of Solitude. The ridiculousness knows no bounds. Some of the stories were so bad it's amazing that the stench hasn't lingered. However, Superman was able to make a comeback. Legendary Battle of the Classic Video Game Characters We decided to extend the deadline on the Earthworm Jim/Sam and Max match up. We have been posting our match ups on Comic Vine and getting some good responses. However, this time there was only one response and it was for clarification. So, clarification was provided. No, Max doesn't have his psychic powers. So, who will win?  Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoilercast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:58

What else did you expect from a geek podcast? Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out and any geek podcast worth anything has seen the movie and is reviewing the thing. Normally we might scoff at something like that, but we have been Star Wars fans for most of our lives. So, of course we've seen it and of course we're going to talk about it. Sorry for the delay. There were technical difficulties. Star Wars: The Spoilercast Chance joins us for this episode. Lindsay was going to join us, but she isn't feeling well. She just finished her first semester of vet school. I'm surprised that she didn't fall asleep at the movie trying to catch-up after all the sleep deprivation. At this point it is a bit difficult to write this up without totally spoiling the podcast. This episode is a spoilercast. We are specific about the things that we liked and the things that we didn't. If you haven't seen the movie you may want to skip this episode until after you have seen the movie. We don't hold our punches either. This movie is probably the most popular movie in the country right now. It can stand to weather a few blows from an obscure podcast from the mountains of Utah. Should you go see this movie? Absolutely. J.J. Abrams delivered on the nostalgia and this Star Wars movie is a big improvement on episodes 1, 2, and 3. That said, he didn't quite deliver the way we were expecting. So, go watch the movie, listen to the podcast, and let us know what you think. Did you agree with our assessment? Are we totally off-base? What made, or broke the movie for you? We may make fun of you for your opinion, but we would really like to hear it. Leave us a voicemail at the link or send us an email at thedistractedgamers@gmail.com.  Episode 130B – Another Fantastic Episode | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:29

Fantastic, that's what this episode is, and we are glad you are here. It is now SW-Day - 1 and counting. The DG Podcast have their tickets and the showtime, but until then we have the podcast and Viking: Battle for Asgard. What's Going On What can we say about the hosts this week? Jason played some more Destiny. He actually finished the House of Wolves expansion and stared on the Taken King. As such, he complains about a couple of missions that had particularly difficult game mechanics to negotiate, a departure from the rest of the series. Rhett hasn't been playing as much Xbox as he would like. He's been working through Fallout 4. We also talk about the new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence. The Fantastic 4 Again We revisit the Fantastic 4 again in this episode. Why do we do that? Jason was intrigued by the rumors surrounding the movie and decided to check it out. So, he watched the most recent Fantastic 4 movie and found out that it was the 4th movie about the Fantastic 4. The first movie was made so that the original studio could retain the film rights. They had to make a movie by December 31st 1992 or they would lose the rights. So, they threw together a piece of garbage film, just to retain the rights. IP holders should put a clause in the contract against this kind of idiocy. The movie was disappointing, but not as big a disappointment as assumed. They started off rather strong, but after that the film degenerated to mediocrity and stayed there. Legendary Battle of the Classic Video Game Characters We finish with the next bout in our tournament: Samus Aran versus Billy and Jimmy Lee. Samus is equipped with a battlesuit, and various projectile weapons. The Lee brothers are expert martial artists. In the next bout Earthworm Jim faces off against Sam and Max, the Freelance Police.  Episode 130A – A Working Death Star | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:35

That's right, a working Death Star. If we had one the DG Podcast would rule the galaxy. Which is probably why we don't have one. Yes, that is the only reason we don't have one. I see you eyeballing me. What other possible reason could there be as to why we don't have a Death Star? What's Going On We start off the podcast with Jason. Rhett's in charge and so he was the one who decide who went first. Jason has been playing Knights of the Old Republic and Destiny. He's also been watching Eureka Seven: AO, the sequel to Eureka Seven. Rhett hasn't actually been playing much on his Xbone since he got it. It came to his house, but in the midst of updating the thing and installing the games he bought his sister was the first one to play it. There were some disappointments, but this is the Xbone. It was a huge disappointment on initial release. He also got a new phone from his mom, in a round-about way, and complained about 1st world problems. Sorry, Chance totally flaked on us this week and we didn't get anything from him. We could beat him with a stick, but we don't want to get up and walk to Arkansas. The News Dump The geektacular news dump for this week: * Steam Leak * Minecraft coming to Nintendo * Star Wars 1313 May not be dead * Twitter trends * You’re being hijacked * Square Exec says things * EVE Online and ISIS * State of Xbox One * State of PS4 * Canada likes video games * Delete your games * Most popular Youtube games of 2015 * Final Fantasy 7 Remake News And just so you know, this episode has nothing to do with the Death Star. I'm sure there's more Rhett and Jason watched the new TMNT trailer and were mostly unimpressed. We may have talk about that as well. I'm lazy what do you want from me?  Episode 129B – The Fantastic 4 You Want | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:07:43

Happy Holidays, from the best unknown podcast on the the internet. No, not that podcast - the Distracted Gamers. You are on our website after all. I'm sure that other podcast wishes you Season's Greetings as well, but they don't really mean it. We know that you probably deserve coal, but here's hoping you don't get any, unless you have a coal burning stove, then we hope you get lots. What's Going On Jason starts us off since Rhett is trying to get his computer situated. Jason has been reading the Middle Earth Role Playing core rule book. He got it this past week from paperbackswap.com. He's also been playing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Knights of the Old Republic. He picked up KOTOR from Amazon Underground for free. He has to play it on his phone so the controls are a little odd, but it is still a great game. Rhett is getting anxious for his Xbox One. He got the games he ordered and the extra controller, but the console itself still hasn't shown up. He has been playing Total War: Attila and Fallout 4. He's been trying to make himself ignore the minigames like resettling and rebuilding the apocalyptic wasteland to try to progress the storyline. Square Enix has finally released a trailer for the Final Fantasy VII remake. This time the trailer isn't just a teaser. They've included some gameplay footage as well. We'll let you see the video before we tell you our opinion of what we saw. The Fantastic 4 Movie You Want Most of the rest of the podcast is devoted to outlining the perfect Fantastic 4 movie. As you may or may not know, the Fantastic 4 have appeared in four films. The problem is that these films have been very disappointing. The Fantastic 4 is a great superhero team, but it seems that no one knows what they are doing when they attempt to make a movie about the team. Maybe they should have gotten the Pixar writers who did The Incredibles. Listen to the ideas we propose and give us your feedback. Is what we describe a movie you would pay to see? Is there a comic hero you would like to see adapted to the screen or that needs a better screen adaptation? Let us know, we'll see what we can come up with. Legendary Battle of the Classic Video Game Characters We return, even though we are running over time, to our tournament. Mario faces off against Mike Haggar. Mario, the Italian plumber with the great vertical, has access to various powers via his myriad suits. Can he prevail against the man who became mayor of Metro City by beating crime into submission with his fists and his awesome wrestling moves? In the next round of combat Samus Aran will face Billy and Jimmy Lee. Let us know who you think will win.  Episode 129A – The News Dump | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:06:15

The DG Podcast is once again assaulting your ears with the latest, most interesting news dump to ever hit the internet in the last few days. We work tirelessly, well not really, to bring you our opinions on the news of the week. Let me tell you there is some great news this week. Spoiler alert - it involves a samurai. Rhett and Jason haven't been up to much. Jason's been busy doing other things. He did watch a bunch of movie trailers and he found a deal on Amazon to get a free copy of Knights of the Old Republic for his phone. Rhett has been busy playing Fallout 4 and delivers his opinion on the game. He went back to Fallout because he is getting an Xbox One. They offered a good deal on the system on the Microsoft site. Chance offers up another email for our consumption this week. He has quite a bit going on in his life. His TV, lack of sleep, lack of gaming, and more. We also issued him a challenge to come up with our next tournament since he hasn't been happy with our recent offerings. Well, see how he does. The News Dump The geektacular news dump for this week: * Shaq – fu * Video game awards is stupid * New BvS trailer * Tell-tale Batman game * Pre-order DLC anger * Psychonauts is back! Sort of * PS4 remote play in the works * PSP woes * Video Games are destroying sports * Black Friday info * Everyone likes pie * AMD sets your computer on fire * DOA Extreme 3 still being talking about for some reason * EA not happy with Gamestop * Mother who killed child over video game up for parole * Samurai Jack coming back At the end of the podcast here we talk about the Batman Vs Superman trailer that just dropped. There isn't very much about the trailer to like. Unfortunately, while it does paint an action packed picture for us, they really missed the mark on some things. Batman and Superman sound like petty children trying to one up each other. Lex Luthor is not imposing or threatening in any way, shape, or form. Lex should have an arrogant dignity about him, but Jesse Eisenberg plays Lex Luthor as a cringing toady rather than a king of business or even a king in his own mind.

 Episode 128B – Death of Physical Disks | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:22

The DG Podcast returns. I know it wouldn't make a great movie, but it makes a great podcast. Rhett and Jason serve up a nerdatcular feast for your auditory canals. Rhett has been allowing himself to be consumed by Total War: Attila. We even take some time to delve into history. I know, history my not be your cup of tea, but this podcast is dedicated to geekery in all forms. Jason has had the yen to play Borderlands. So, he's been playing Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel. He's also been dealing with tablets, moving data to new tablets. He also watched the first episode of Jessica Jones. He and Rhett talk about that at the end of the podcast. There are two topics on the docket tonight. The first topic comes from archive.org. They have recently released a large library of old MS-DOS games that can be played on a browser for free. There are tons of old favorites: Scorched Earth, Maniac Mansion, Street Fighter, Wolfenstein, and so much more. The second topic comes from a Huffington Post article. The numbers are in from 3rd quarter of 2015 and there is an upward trend in purchases of digital copies of games over physical copies. The article calls for the death of physical disks. Rhett and Jason admit that the trend does seem to be upward, but there really isn't a huge benefit to choosing digital over physical. If the price of digital copies drops compared to physical copies, yes you should probably get a digital copy, but otherwise if you are paying for the same price why not get a physical disk? You have the copy in case of backup needs, you know you can load the game anytime you want, you don't have to risk going over your bandwidth, etc. When they fix some of these problems and make the digital copies cheaper than the physical - then we will look at changing our preferences. No bout in the tournament tonight. We will have Mario and Mike Haggar duke it out next time. Let us know what you think about the topics discussed tonight by commenting on our Twitter account, comment here on blog, or go to the forum.  Episode 112B | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:28

We have returned in triumph, or indigestion, I'm not sure which. Anyway, the internet hasn't imploded yet, but give it time. You will think back to the day the internet crashed and you will tell your grandchildren, "In my day there was an idiot on Youtube called Pewdiepie" and your grandchildren will laugh at you. We have some great news. Rhett reached out to the developers of Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and they responded. We will be trying to set something up with them and we'll do a special episode with Fatshark. In addition, Jason has delved more into the world in Dragonworld. He's also been watching movie trailers with his children - Peanuts, Minions, Secret Life of Pets, Fantastic Four. Rhett, apart from talking to Fatshark, has been watching X-Files, playing Warhammer, and fixing computers. He was playing Puzzle Fighter and Darkstalkers during the episode. Before we get to the review we also talk about the X-Files spinoffs, Battletoads, and Ralph Bakshi. In this episode we review the Top 10 Mind-Blowing Video Game Plot Twists Nobody Saw Coming Hero And Villain Are The Same Guy In Infamous Samus Is A Woman In Metroid The Precursors Are Ottsels In Jak 3 You Are The Bad Guy In Braid The World Of Star Ocean Is A Video Game Clayface Plays Joker In Arkham City Playing As A Templar In Assassin’s Creed III Sidekick Becomes Villain In Portal 2 Darth Revan Reveal In Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Would You Kindly? - BioShock Finally we return to our tournament - Fox McCloud versus Billy and Jimmy Lee. Fox McCloud is the ace starfighter pilot from Star Fox. He has quick reflexes and is combat tested. He carries a futuristic blaster as well. Billy and Jimmy Lee are well trained master martial artists from Double Dragon. They are tough, scrappy, and streetwise. In the next round Sam & Max will face Bomberman for an attempt at the title. In the future mankind will look back, will look back in despair to the time to before the devastation, before the collapse, and they will know that they should have listened to the DG Podcast. That beacon of light in an otherwise dreary and dismal internet. They will know that we tried to warn them, but alas it will be too late. Sorry no email from Chance this week, so Jason and Rhett have to try to be interesting without him. They do a mediocre job, to be frank. Jason started a new book called Dragonworld, he played Destiny, and a mobile game called Elemental Wings. Rhett makes reference to Star Wars: The Old Republic, complains about the Windows 10 Internet Explorer slowdown/bloatware, mentions the Every JRPG Ever video by College Humor, played Warhammer 40k: Storm of Vengeance, and rants about the X-Files. You have now stumbled into that internet twilight zone known as the DG Podcast. Here everything is as it seems. Jason doesn't have any emotions and Rhett is a curmudgeon. We won't sugar coat it, but we will pander, just ask. This week Jason played a Destiny a little and the helped building a cabin on property owned by his family. Rhett has been playing Watch Dogs and Dark Souls 2. He is at the final boss and is ready to finish the game. This week in honor of Rhett's interest in the X-Files we review 15 of the creepiest "creatures" on X-Files on the show The Arctic Worms Mrs. Paddock The Doll Cecil L’Ively The Silicon-Based Parasite Agula Mala’s Sea Monsters Leonard Betts The Bat Creature Greg Pincus (Insect Creature) Leonard Robert Patrick Modell (Pusher) The Peacock Family Donnie Pfaster Eugene Victor Tooms The Flukeman Finally, in the next round of our tournament Mike Haggar and Megaman face off in a fight to the death. Mike Haggar is from the Final Fight games. Mike Haggar is a former professional wrestler who became the mayor of Metro City by literally beating criminals into submission. He's tough, strong, and swings a mean lead pipe. Megaman is an android created by Dr Light to fight the robotic minions of Dr Wily. He's equipped with the Mega Buster, a canon attached to his arm, and he was upgraded to fighting android. In the next round Fox McCloud will go up against Billy and Jimmy Lee. We now return you to the internet. The internet, you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Remember, just because the internet is a hive of scum and villainy doesn't mean you have to be one of the villains. Chance, our rock-steady emailer, has sent us an email. Read it here since Jason butchers it anyway. Jason has been out of town. Relax, he's back and as inane as ever. He found out about the sequels to Chinese Ghost Story, there are two. He got Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare, Destiny, Halo 4, Halo Reach, Fuel, Resident Evil 5, and Rage.
