 Ep.292: Ben Pakulski | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:31

We are so excited to be joined this week by Ben Pakulski! We interviewed Ben at the #PODCASTHARD event in Tahoe this September, and were blown away by his honest and in-depth take on the mindset around bodybuilding and fitness. Ben is a former IFBB Pro bodybuilder, who has competed in everything from Mr. Canada to Mr. Olympia, and we had the chance to sit with him and discuss how he’s working now to help bodybuilding athletes evolve their mindset around the sport. We also discuss the mental game of training in general, and hear how becoming a father has had the greatest influence on Ben’s life purpose and plans for the future.   Unplugged Float Essentials discount code GGW Support the podcast!  Ep.291: Nespresso Dreams | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:29

This week’s J&C episode is all about fancy coffee, the worst kind of internet people, and some listener Q&A. We talk about why “just being honest” should really be called “just being a jerk,” why it’s important to be authentic but still self-aware with your internet presence, and most importantly, why Joy needs a new fancy coffee maker.  Ep.290: Ben Greenfield | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:44

Ben Greenfield is one of the godfathers of health and fitness podcasting, so we were thrilled to get to interview him at the #PODCASTHARD event in Tahoe this past September. In this episode, we talk with Ben about the difference between honing your performance with biohacking vs. missing the forest for the trees when it comes to your health. Does it really matter what type of vitamins you take if you’re not getting enough sleep? We also discuss spirituality, Ben’s Catholic background, and what works for him when it comes to balancing family life and entrepreneurship.  Ep.289: If Oprah Calls | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:02

Believe it or not, 2018 is wrapping up – and we have a lot of processing to do. We start this week’s J&C episode with reflecting a little bit about the past year, and then discuss a list of things that everyone *should* be able to do by age 40 – from learning how to stop apologizing, to feeling good about going to bed at 8pm if you want to.  Ep.288: Steph Hammerman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:14

We are so excited to welcome Steph Hammerman back to the podcast this week (you can check out her first appearance in Episode 110)! Quite a few things have changed since the last time we had Steph on the podcast, from meeting the man of her dreams to conquering Lymphoma, and now becoming the proud owner of her new gym, Hammer Driven Fitness. We hear about what it’s like to go through so many transitions in such a short period of time, how she’s coped with the physical changes that came with chemo, what it’s like to build a gym from the ground up in a new town, and what she’s learned about herself and her priorities along the way.  Ep.287: Birthday Reflections | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:28

Claire had a birthday this week (Happy Birthday!), so of course this week’s J&C episode starts with some reflections from her 30th year, and thoughts going into 31. We talk about what it really means when people say “leap and the net will appear,” and why it’s important to remember that there are no solutions wrapped up with bows in real life. We also chat about seasonal mood shifts and how to cope from rainy day apathy to full-on Seasonal Affective Disorder. Support the podcast! Click the SUBSCRIBE button on iTunes!  Ep.286: Chrissy King | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:31

This week we are so excited to be joined by Chrissy King! Chrissy is a writer, powerlifter, strength coach, and intersectional feminist working to dispel institutional sexism and racism within the fitness industry. We cut right to the chase in our conversation, and talk about confronting our various privileges, how to help elevate marginalized voices in whatever space you’re in, and how she is using her own experiences to help educate others while learning and working to dispel her own biases at the same time.  Ep.285: We Are So Thankful! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:04

Happy Thanksgiving!! We are so thankful for YOU, our GGW community. And to show our gratitude, this week our J&C episode is joined by the MOST special guest – Mom Sandy! It has been years since Sandy graced our airwaves (you can check out her earlier appearances in episodes 101 and 104), and so we had a lot of catching up to do. We hear about her recent experiences going through cancer treatment with her husband, and her advice for how to take care of friends when they are in crappy situations. Plus, we get her expert tips for surviving the holidays as an introvert (literally, she is an expert in the introvert vs. extrovert arena… we learned everything we know from her!), and even some great tips on how to “never work a day in your life.” Support the podcast! The GGW x Barbell Shrugged mash-up has been a long time coming, and it’s finally here! This week we get to chat with Anders Varner from Shrugged Collective, and it’s a meeting of the podcast minds.  Ep.283: Perfectionism and Therapy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:56

This week is basically a therapy sesh, so we hope you’re ready to feel your feelings! Claire talks about some recent conversations with her therapist (who, sadly, is actually not Joy), and we dive deep into perfectionism, how it can serve us, and mostly how it can backfire. We also discuss how to talk to people (and/or yourself) when they are experiencing anxiety or stress, and answer a few listener questions. Support the podcast! Click the SUBSCRIBE button on iTunes!  Ep.282: Christina Rice Wellness | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:39

We loved sitting down with Christina Rice at the #PODCASTHARD event in Tahoe a few weeks ago! Christina has spent the better part of the past decade fighting for her health, through severe gut issues, candida, and even a serious eating disorder. She still is learning more about her own health and wellness every day, and is using her experiences to try to reach others who may be going through similar struggles.  Ep.281: Life Is A Marathon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:02

On this week’s J&C episode we dive into the world of expectations vs ego. Joy’s NYC marathon plans didn’t work out, and we talk about the line between proving you can push through hard circumstances, and knowing when to take a break. We also talk about the importance of focusing on long-term health, coping with holiday stress, and the realities of taking a break from social media. Support the podcast!  Ep.280: Diego Centeno and the Dubai CrossFit Championship | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:25

This week we accomplished our longest distance interview ever – almost 8000 miles away to Dubai – to talk with Diego Centeno, the Senior Advisor of the Dubai CrossFit Championship. You have probably heard a lot about the Dubai CrossFit Championship in the past few weeks, since it’s the first officially sanctioned CrossFit event to be added to the new CrossFit Games qualifying structure (and because the official list of qualifying athletes was just posted!). We chat with Diego about the history of the event, why Dubai is the perfect city for an event like this, and why this competition is about much more than just exercising really fast. Diego Centeno is a business development consultant presently residing in Dubai- United Arab Emirates, home to DRC Partners Consulting and advising companies such as The Dubai CrossFit Championship on brand alignment strategies, adding new revenue streams and securing funding from both public/ private sector.   Diego Centeno is originally from Austin, Texas and has over 12 years of experience in the CrossFit® Industry.
