 Episode-2628- Listener Feedback for 3-30-20 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:26:54

Today on The Survival Podcast I answer your questions on corona virus treatments, fun stuff, the stimulus, hydroponics, composting, business, water filters, quail, air rifles and more. Make sure if you submit content for a feedback show that you put something like “comment for jack”, “question for jack” or “article for jack” in the subject line to assure proper identification for my screening process. Please understand I receive several hundred emails a day and can’t get them all on the air. I also do put out a lot of information on Facebook from emails that I can’t fit on the program though so keep em coming.  Episode-2626- Simple, Fast and Easy Kratky Hydroponics for Growing Food | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:36

I consider it quite fortunate that back in late November of 2019 a listener asked me about something called, “Kratky Hydroponics” named for Dr. Kratky who is a professor at the University of Hawaii.  Up until that point I had never really seriously considered hydroponics as I vastly preferred aquaponics because it is a more natural system. When I grasped the true simplicity of Kratky though it would not let go of me.  I first used it to create a very inexpensive and productive seed starting system and even that system grew some things so fast it was producing food for me.  I quickly grew beyond it to my indoor vertical farm system.  Today though we are going to stick 90% to Kratky with just a few ideas on systems that use pumps. My goal is for anyone who listens today to be confident enough to try Kratky at some scale and hence be eating food they grew themselves in under 30 days time from right now. Join Me Today to Discuss… Exactly what is Kratky and why does it work so well The two types of roots it produces and why it is important that you know the difference Why indoor growing under lights is such a great idea especially to get started Why you might not want to do things exactly like I did Ideas for Kratky Contiainers “Rubbermaid Totes” Ball Jars 5 Gallon Buckets Lined Box Frames Kitchen “Tupperware” Garbage Cans If it holds fluid it will work, but think about how much it holds a great deal Container depth needs are subject to the plants, the time of growth and the space My two go to choices for nutrient Texas Tomato Food – Super Convenient Master Blend – It works, you need a scale My go to choices for equipment Barrina Lights for Indoors – Link Rapid Rooter Plugs – Link CZ Net Pots – Link – Pick the Size for Your Application Nice to Have Items EC Meter – Link PH Meter – Link PH Up or Down (pick one) Mortar Mixer – You can get them at any Home Depot, Lowes Etc they are over priced on Amazon but this is what I mean Growing Lettuces and Short Duration Greens Super simple as one cycle and done Cut and come again 1 to 2 times, by then have new starts ready Best for lettuce, arugula, spinach, basil, etc. Growing Long Duration Greens (Chard, etc) May want to treat them like lettuces Might be best to transplant them to soil May do well companion planted with tier two crops (below) Tier Two Crops Fruiting crops like squash, egg plant, tomato, peppers, etc. Require more dense nutrient solution Require larger containers (5 gallons minimum) Would be best to grow outside (with some shelter) May want to employ float valves Some thoughts on plumbing right now The cheap bulkheads I recommend have super long lead times, here is a work around that may work All local building supply, plumbing, garden, ag, etc. stores are still open, many deliver You can design static layouts for plumbing options later on, just have the plan in mind You need a schedule for checking and filling if you don’t have automation Remember the two root types, never top up, fill up to a pre determined “top” once major growth has begun The roots themselves when healthy do act as wicks Some final considerations Block light, grow plants not algae Yes I reuse some of the rapid rooter plugs, here is how Spacing is dependent on the plants and your harvest timing Warm temps really do help especially with germination Yes you can grown in a window, there are limits, lettuce is likely best I have not been hardening transplants, all have lived but some have not been happy at first Use simple solutions and learn, you can always add more to them Start with some fast turn crops even if you really want peppers, tomatoes, etc. Strongly consider some sort of indoor solution in the short term Any shelf will do but consider vertical spacing 2x4s and cinder blocks make quick, strong, cheap, shelving (easy to later repurposed) Kratky is GREAT [...]

Episode-2624- Now is the Time to Grow Your Own Food | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:50

I am going to say a bit more on the concept of treating CoVid with hydroxychloroquine today and play a patient testimonial as well.  Doing this because I feel we 100% need to educate people about this.  Doctors are still resistant and supplies are still limited but for many this is the answer to treatment. Very quickly though we will turn to growing your own food.  Today I just going to give you some options to get planting fast, like container gardens, grow bags, etc..  What the main focus is going to be though is long duration, fast production foods.  Things you can start to harvest relatively fast, yet produce for a season or more and don’t require you to really stay on top of them on a daily basis. What I mean by this is pretty simple.  Lettuce is pretty fast, baby plants can be harvested in 20ish days, adult in 30-40.  Some can be “cut and come again” but that is limited.  For you to harvest lettuce continuously you have to be starting new crops often and fully harvest adult plants before they go to seed and or get bitter.  Contrast that with say Chard that can go 18 months usually before going to seed and harvested as desired. Join Me Today to Discuss… On Covid It is important to understand that Doctors are Using Chloroquine two ways With other drugs, in the hospital for advanced cases Mostly with zinc, sometimes other drugs, to keep people out of the hospital Please don’t buy into the bullshit of the media telling you it doesn’t work, scaring you about its use, or using it to bash Trump A quick review of how you can get zinc into your cells with simple supplements   On Growing Your Own Food I can’t go deep into methods today but here are some methods to consider Hydroponics, especially kratky Grow Bags Container Gardens In Ground Rain Gutter Grow Buckets – Larry Hall Raised Beds Bag Gardens Think about shade, soil costs, etc. A quick word on disease resistant hybrids Long Duration Crops – What I mean by this and why you want them Swiss Chard, also beats Sweet Potato Greens Celery Walking Onions and Potato Onions Chives New Zealand Spinach Longevity Spinach Arugula Ground Cherry All the Great Herbs – Oregano, Basil, Thyme, Parsley, etc. Water Cress Perilla Sorrel Collards and Kale Water Spinach Malabar Spinach Amaranth Mid Tier Long Duration Crops – Take Longer but Give Good Continuous Harvest Egg Plant Cucumber Tomatoes Peppers Beans and Peas – Consider Asian Long Beans Other Options for Low Maintenance but Less Continuous Harvest Winter Squash Like Butternut Garlic and Onions Cow Peas, Dry Beans, etc.   Resources for today’s show… Join the Members Brigade – Get 25 dollars a year off right now with discount code 25bucks Join Our Forum Walking To Freedom TspAz.com – Find all My Amazon Reviews Show I Did on Pandemics in 2010 GreenWisdomHealth.com – My Doc and Currently has some Zinc and other Stuff Available but not Much Twenty Years Ago – Kenny Rodgers   Source of More Info and Products for Growing Your Own Food All my Hydroponics Resources My Products for my Fertility Program My Indoor Vertical Hydroponics Farm – Shows you what to do even if you do it differently My Hydro Seed Starting System – Easily Adapted for Production As Well My Indoor Hydro Presentation from Mother Earth News Fair My Container Gardens Presentation from Mother Earth News Fair Grow Bags Larry Hall on Rain Gutter Systems   Links Referenced about Hydroxychloroquine Works and On Why Some OTC Supplements May do Some Portion Thereof How hydroxychloroquine actually works with zinc to fight CoVid, despite what the media says this is a KNOWN.  Episode-2623- CoVid Solutions and Gauging Future Opportunities | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:08

I want to take a three pronged approach to this today.  First as I predicted treatment of CoVid with hydroxyhloroquine is already beginning in earnest.  I am no doctor but I am going to talk about this form a set of known facts today, then expand into my opinion based on those facts. I am in fact going to tell you why I think some over the counter supplements MIGHT be very useful for fighting CoVid especially if taken very early on.  I am going to talk about buying time in the window right now as well until the government and doctors get on with true wide spread and early use of hydroxyhloroquine. Next I am going to go into a world of total Jack’s brain theory.  It may piss some people off but if so it will because they don’t listen well or do not listen to the entire thing.  In my view all living things serve one or more of four basic functions as to how they contribute to life on earth.  They are predator, prey, bioaccumulatior and decomposer.  Guess what a virus is none of those. Like I said what I am going to say about this, some will take the wrong way, but Doc Bones confirmed my view last night with a reference to a study. Third up I am going to say a few things about the opportunities that are going to be waiting for the prepared, the smart and the ambitious when this passes and despite the total dooms day view from some, this absolutely will pass.  Episode-2622- What to Do About CoVid-19 Right Now | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:19

For New Listeners – We are on iTunes, Stitcher Radio Etc and if you have any issues listening on the website directly just click this link https://bit.ly/covid-what2do Today’s show has no typical intro segments, I am designing it to allow you to help those who are mostly or totally unprepared for this.  As I have said a lot lately, if you follow our basic guidelines is 30-60 days of minimum preparedness for food, essentials and finances you should be in really good shape right now. Yet not everyone is prepared, in fact clearly they are not and in some areas it is worse than others.  Today’s show is really for those who are totally freaked out, designed to say, you can do these things and take control, but I think it will help everyone get things into perspective.  Please share this one folks, I think it can help a lot of people. Special Note – For those new to the show the bullet points below are my talking points only, I generally present with less notes but don’t want to leave anything out here.  I ask you to resist the urge to just scan the notes and think, yea I know that.  If someone shared this with you please take the time to listen to the audio, it can really help you get though the next few weeks and it may in fact save lives. Join Me Today as We Discuss… Five Basics to Keep in Mind at all Times The social distancing advice is right, it sucks but it is right. Sanitation is critical when you go out act like a solider, don’t touch your face. However be a “grey man” don’t start shit, stay away from people Go out early, don’t shop around the 1st, 15th or any time money is being sent out Despite the hysteria most cases are mild to moderate and self resolve, you still don’t want to add to the problem   What do do at home right now… Set up a schedule and keep to it, not strict but keep it Inventory your food and supplies, know what you have before buying what you don’t need Calculate how long you can go with what you have, so you can make smart supply run decisions Do not watch wall to wall CoVid TV Schedule “movie” or fun TV time Schedule family/friend contact times, facetime, etc. Create “work” for kids, use “me too” leverage Have outside time, sorry stay away from friends and neighbors though Create fun projects, if you are not working do them with your kids Enjoy each other, make the best of things Teach kids about the right amount of TP and happy birthday hand washing If you have the space designate everyone as “private area” then can go to and have respected   More Specific to Kids…. Schedule, structure and command make them feel like you have control, they need that Be honest that things are serious, but keep them upbeat, “we are going to be okay” Really minimize “CoVid TV” around them Yes it is effort to teach them a task, but once they can do it, you don’t have to Trust me a lot of stuff they say they don’t want to do, they will enjoy if you make them do it   Things I noticed on a supply run…. Hit stores early, during the week, bad weather is kind of good in this case Stay the hell away from high population area stores if you can Many people are buying the “easy” food, buy whole foods, whole cuts, etc. This multiple meals with one item, whole chickens, large meat cuts, etc. Think waste elimination, buy things you can use fresh but easily store as well If you can get high volume easy button foods by all means do it Consider intel gathering whenever you go out, notice parking lots and times of day, days of week Don’t post your intel good or bad on social media, it isn’t everyone for themselves but one post can really ruin things Some other things to think about buying, potatoes, veg that freezes well, surprisingly junk foods, canned meat if you are limited on freezer space. If you can orde[...]

Episode-2621- Nicole Sauce on Side Hustles during the Crisis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:35:22

The word of the week in fact the word or the month is solutions and so that is what we are discussing today with Expert Council member Nicole Sauce.  While many right now are out of work and hoping this ends before that becomes permanent, some are thriving in the side hustle and gig economy. We have taught lifestyle design from almost day one on TSP.  While basic prepping is pretty strait forward, I mean we can sum it up this simplistically… At a minimum build up sufficient supplies and finances to be able to go 30-60 days without systems of support and you will be able to get thought 98% of what might go wrong. Truly building a life where you can thrive during even a global crisis requires a lot more.  Building a stable income that can create reserves in good time and carry you though bad times, really lets you live the better life, if times get tough, or even if they don’t.  Nicole and I discuss that concept in depth today. We also start out with some incredibly good news about CoVid-19 with a new treatment coming very fast, in fact for anyone not already to a very critical state it is essentially a cure.  While much of even the MSM is privy to this now, I have some information that make this news even better.  We are not done with this problem yet, and it will go on for a while but what just happened will shorten it by a massive margin. So get your side hustle going now, or at least plan it out and get read to hit it hard, the future is actually pretty bight right now, you just have to look ahead instead of at the ground.  Episode-2620- James White on Hydroponics for Small Space Growing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:27:55

We start out with some very important information about CoVid-19 today and then discuss small scale hydroponics with our guest James White. James White is an Electrical Engineer but has worked primarily in Technical Sales, a.k.a. Sales Engineering most of his adult life; primarily for Silicon Valley tech startups. James caught or possibly inherited the gardening bug early from his Mother and Grandmother the first few years of his life in Okinawa. As a Navy Brat he moved around a lot, but always found a way to grow something, one way or another. Now living in suburban So Cal on a little less than a 1/10th acre, James is trying to “hack” as much gardening space and production as possible in a limited space. Several years ago he tried hydroponics as an experiment and was impressed with the results.  He has been a great help to my hydroponics work this year and I wanted to bring him on to discuss the subject.  Episode-2619- John Pugliano on the Current and Future Economics of CoVid-19 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:46

I asked expert council member John Pugliano to join me today to discuss the effects of the CoVid-19 outbreak on our economy. The reality is nothing in modern history really compares to what we are now experiencing. The market is down massively and businesses are closed others are open only part time, many that are open are doing very little business. All of this has both good and bad aspects to it. The bad is pretty obvious, fear is driving hording of consumables while durable goods sit idle and services go unused. The good is harder to see right now. One good thing is the economy is actually fundamentally sound. Another is the government is dead set on filling in the financial holes. That does not mean sunshine, roses and kittens but it does mean we are looking at a cycle not the end of life as we know it. Join John and I today for a frank, honest and yet hopeful discussion about this topic.  Episode-2618- Doc Bones on the CoVid-19 Pandemic | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:23:20

I decided to bring on Doc Bones from the expert panel to discuss the CoVid-19 situation from a pragmatic real world stand point.  Doc is taking this seriously and has good advice but his central message can be broken down into two parts. Part One – Flatten the curve, follow the general advice, wash hands, social distance, etc. Part Two – Don’t panic, this too shall pass.  It won’t last forever, don’t act like it will. We cover a lot more than that and I finish with my 12 points of advice on the current situation.  In the end if you are a typical prepper who can go 30-60 days without needing typical “systems of support” you a lot of control in staying out of the problem and more importantly not making it worse.  Episode-130- TSP Rewind – Defining the Machine with Patrick Barron | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:24

Today is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally Episode-1088- Patrick Barron from DefiningTheMachine.com and was originally published on March 13th, 2013. The following are the original show notes from that episode.. The Machine is Why Nothing Changes Pat Barron is a former Independent candidate for congress in 2010,with over 25 years of experience working within both public and private mental health settings. Currently, Pat works for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. Pat’s experience as a trained clinician, has helped to not only treat the symptoms of a problem, but to identify/understand the complex causes of the problem, and then find the straightest path to both stability and success. In the 2010 congressional election Pat Barron was an Independent candidate in the 3rd district against incumbent James McGovern and Republican Marty Lamb. Pat ran as a true outsider to Washington D.C. and political partisanship. Pat believes reform in Washington DC is the only solution to all our issues ranging from healthcare to infrastructure, to national defense. The current climate of partisanship, gridlock, national debt and congressional approval ratings in the teens substantiate this belief. Since the last election Pat Barron has been hard at work researching and developing a seminar he is now offering called “Defining the Machine” Join Pat and I Today as We Discuss… Partisanship and political gridlock, why it occurs and how this influences policy and fund-raising The history of congressional committee term limits and does this help The Bipartisan Congressional Reform Act of 2002 The RNC, DNC, what and where is K Street and why this matters The difference between PACs, leadership PACs, and Super PACs Control by the political parties through the Party Dues System. Where your money goes when you donate to a candidate Why change can’t happen with the current system The fact that there is a published price list for committee seats A new congressman’s first job is basically the same as a 9 dollar and hour telemarketers Sponsorships and Co-sponsorships of bills are for sale on the House Floor Congressman can legally bribe each other in their own office based on a law they passed The only solution to this is education   Resources for Today’s Show Members Support Brigade TSP Gear Shop Join Our Forum AOC to be Pushed out With Redistricting DefiningTheMachine Around the Bed – CCR   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-129- TSP Rewind – Developing the Skill of Teaching | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:29:50

Today is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally Episode-1423- Developing the Skill of Teaching and was originally published on Sept.10th, 2014. While today is a rewind episode the first 20 minutes is all brand new content and is about you guessed it CoVid-19 specifically the next 30-60 days.  Additionally there are two songs of the day as I am keeping my promise to make this CCR week and the song from the old episode is so tied into the subject it was not practical to remove it. The following are the original show notes from that episode.. Geoff Lawton is one of my Greatest Teachers I put out a simple post on the TSP Facebook page yesterday, it simply said, “Hey TSP Nation, what do you want tomorrow’s show to be about“? I was kind of blown away but how fast so many great ideas came in. Frankly I think I am going to busy for months now. Some of the requests are great but I need more than one day to put them together. There was one though that I realized I have never done, simply how to become a teacher. Now not a school teacher, or even say a bush craft teacher but just a teacher in general. What makes a great teacher? What makes a student want to learn? I will try to explain what I think about that today. I will also explain my philosophy on teaching and why everyone should be both student and teacher. Teaching is a skill, that is great, it means teachers are not borne they are made. It is true that some people have natural talents and that makes them better teachers but we can all develop the skill to be a good teacher. Teaching isn’t hard, it is learning something and helping someone else do what you already did. We have been lied to here like in many other places, teachers are not heroes with magical powers granted to them by the state and university, they are just people, nothing more. Again some individuals may be very talented story tellers, speakers, etc. Said people will be great teachers but you should never see that is why you can’t teach. What if you did that with running? I can run, hell I can run very well. I am sure a being without human legs would be quite impressed by my coordination and speed. Yet by our standards I am slow, very slow, does this mean I should never run? Does this mean I can’t run? Does this mean I could not become a better runner? Teaching is the same. Join Me Today As We Discuss… What do teachers mean when they say they want parents “involved in education” Why you have to let go of the “academic teacher view” to be a great teacher The formula to become a great teacher Develop passion for things that are important to you Develop knowledge and experience about those things Show and tell others about them Repeat The formula to develop skills as a teacher Learn to tell stories Learn to use analogies Learn to see connections and patterns Why teaching is so beneficial to the teacher How this concept can change the world for the better   Resources for Today’s Show Members Support Brigade TSP Gear Shop Join Our Forum My Article on CoVid-19 compared to the Flu Episode 402 On the Threat of Pandemic Green River – CCR   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.  Episode-2616- The Lessons America Should be Learning from CoVid-2019 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:25:16

Today we are not really going to talk about CoVid-2019 directly but more what it has exposed as weaknesses in the United States, what we should learn from it, why we likely will not and what that means you should do.  Hint on the last one, what you should do is mostly what I have said you should be doing for about 12 years now. The truth about CoVid-2019 is that it is not nothing but it is nothing like what it is being made out to be.  It is a respiratory virus and every year we have many such viruses that people get and are never even named.  CoVid-2019 is already showing signs of obeying Farr’s Law and going into decline across the entire northern hemisphere. Farr’s law was first formulated in 1840 by William Farr, one of the founders of modern epidemiology.  It has since been ignored in every epidemic hysteria since, the law states that epidemics tend to rise and fall in a roughly symmetrical pattern or bell-shaped curve. AIDS, SARS, Ebola — they all followed that pattern. So does seasonal flu each year. Like I said though this isn’t really about CoVid-2019 but rather the weaknesses it exposes.  What concerns me most about the current situation is what a truly serious, high mortality pandemic would look like.  Again this does not mean CoVid-2019 is a “nothing burger” rather that is is not as dangerous as claimed, so what is going to happen when something more dangerous then this is claimed to be, inevitability happens? Lessons and Corrective Action from CoVid-2019 Quote of the Day – “Emergencies’ have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded”.  ~ F.A. Hayek The government is mostly unprepared for a disaster, how we could change that but why we won’t The American people are completely unprepared for a disaster, why that won’t change but why you should American corporations are mostly unprepared for a disaster why they may very well change that Yes the media is hyping this because they hate Trump and because they hype everything anyway Why I predict the current crisis will be relatively short and why that is bad in some ways Some opportunities that are coming from this Continuity of operations planning for corporations For every loser there is something on sale at a discount The very nature of this crisis means we know it will end Some real concerns I have of this crisis not going to waste I don’t think you will see a CoVid Vaccine rather a CoVid-Flu vaccine More gas on the fire for the war on cash More validation for government to have more “emergency power” The temptation to establish a “new normal” just like after 911 The cry wolf response if we have something worse in the future The loss of many small businesses during even a relatively short disruption A perfect set up for a take over of socialism in the US Final Thoughts   Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack on Instagram TSP Facebook Group Join the Members Brigade Join Our Forum TspAz.com Fortunate Son – CCR   Sponsors of the Day Safecastle Royal The Berkey Guy   Remember to comment, chime in and tell us your thoughts, this podcast is one man’s opinion, not a lecture or sermon.
