Angery – adjective – “A sarcastic, condescending, or taunting use of the word  angry.” American – noun – “One who is a citizen of the United States of America” That should set the stage for our interview with Chris “Angery American” today on his new book, “Going Home”.  One reviewer described this book as addictive in fact what he said was, “Imagine squatting behind a dumpster trying to melt a page of this book in a spoon so you can get your fix, yeah, it’s that addictive.” Here is a description of the story. Imagine you’re driving down the interstate, it’s Friday and all you can think about is getting your weekend started. Then to begin the ruination of your much anticipated weekend the grating tone of the Emergency Alert System flashes over the radio, then promptly dies. This is the beginning of a 250 mile odyssey for Morgan Carter. Morgan works on the road and finds himself far from home when his car dies, as well as his Blackberry and every other piece of electronics he has. With no idea what has occurred he reluctantly finds himself on shanks’ mare carrying that ridiculous pack that everyone made fun of him for keeping in the car. Morgan has to find his way across the state of Florida, from Tallahassee to the heart of the state in Lake County.Along his way he has to seek out food, water and shelter where he can, not to mention keeping himself from being killed by any number of now scared and desperate people. During his travels he will try and help where he can, but that can turn out to be a costly mistake. We live in a wonderfully modern society where anything we want is a mouse click away. The lights come on with the flip of a switch and even a child can turn on the faucet at the sink and water always comes out. But what if it all went away? Could you face what Morgan faces, could you make the decisions he has to make? TweetMassad Ayoob – Joins Us To Discuss Lethal Force Aftermath Massad Ayoob has been handgun editor of GUNS magazine and law enforcement editor of AMERICAN HANDGUNNER since the 1970s, and has published thousands of articles in gun magazines, martial arts publications, and law enforcement journals. He is the author of more than a dozen books on firearms, self-defense, and related topics, including “In the Gravest Extreme,” widely considered to be the authoritative text on the topic of the use of lethal force. The winner of the Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year Award in 1998, Mas has won several state and regional handgun shooting championships. Ayoob is one of the very few Five Gun Masters among the 10,000-member International Defensive Pistol Association, and was the first to earn that title. He served 19 years as chair of the Firearms Committee of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, and several years as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association. In addition to teaching for those groups, he has also taught for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and the International Homicide Investigators seminars. Massad has received judicial recognition as an expert witness for the courts in weapons and shooting cases since 1979, and has been a fully sworn and empowered, part time police officer for decades. Ayoob founded the Lethal Force Institute in 1981 and served as its director until 2009, and now trains through Massad Ayoob Group. Massad has appeared on CLE-TV delivering continuing legal education for attorneys, through the American Law Institute and American Bar Association, and has been retained to train attorneys to handle deadly force cases through the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. Ayoob served for two years as co-vice chair of the Forensic Evidence Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also appears in each episode of Personal Defense TV (Sportsman’s Channel). TweetMichael Jordan owns “A BEE Friendly Company”, that teaches children beekeeping.  Professionally he is a fuel storage tester in the state of Wyoming for the EPA and DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) and work full time as a custodian and night security for the local school dist. He started IPUG (I’m Prepping Urban Guerrillas) having classing on survival skills, prepping needs and group community awareness. His group is very active and has ongoing activities and support systems such as a barter bank, regular training classes, group construction projects and workshops on everything from canning to brewing beer and making mead. We have discussed at brief quite a bit on “mob grazing” lately, specificlly the work of people like Alan Savory and Greg Judy and the amazing results they have had. This has resulted in a large number of questions to me about  how we can replicate this in smaller permaculture systems. The reality is it isn’t that difficult and simply by using smaller animals and understanding their behaviors we can gain similar results anywhere from a suburban yard to a small holding of a few acres. My hope today is that the entire concept of mob grazing is understood for what it actually is.  Simply animals moving through a system they way they naturally would in nature.  Along with why our current livestock need management to behave “naturally”.  This is based both on land size limitations and the loss of the animals normal instincts due to centuries of domestication. TweetToday we have a two parter.  First some comments on the martial arts show yesterday have shown what I always see to be the biggest problem in martial arts to be a constant and chronic problem.  I am going to cover some real world facts about violence and what martial arts can and cannot do to abate them.  I am going to explain why there is no such thing a “the best martial art” in a way that all but those who don’t want to understand will understand. We are then going to have about a 30 minute interview with Caroline Vuyadinov of Chicago Land Green Burials.  Death is a subject we never really want to discuss but it is the fate that awaits us all.  Today one of the most expensive things you can do is die and I am not talking about the medical care leading up to it, I am talking about what is called “final expenses”.  It doesn’t have to be that way though. Personally I feel the death care industry is a scam that preys on people when they are at their very weakest.  That is why I am so excited to have Caroline on today to discuss the facts about dealing with death and the real need we all have to make what we want done with our remains known to those we will leave behind.
