One of your coworkers heard a reporter on the radio say that there is a high probability the city will see torrential downpours too. Back home you have seen the very worst of thunderstorms, so you really weren't too worried...that is, until you got off work! Jan Blokker en Bert Haanstra schreven het scenario en Bernard Droog, Hans Kaart, en Ineke Brinkman speelden de hoofdrollen. In het begin van de film ontmoeten we de leden van een fanfare ergens in het dorp Lagerwiede. De band bereidt zich voor op een grote wedstrijd, maar onderlinge verschillen leiden tot ruzies en gevechten tussen de leden van band. Uiteindelijk splitsen ze in twee afzonderlijke banden, en beide bands besluiten om op hun eigen aan de wedstrijd deel te nemen. Dezelfde componist schrijft eigenlijk twee verschillende stukken voor beide bands, en in het begin horen we twee totaal verschillende stukken. Uiteraard doen zich een aantal problemen voor in de loop van het verhaal, maar alles samen loopt het uit in beide bands die op hetzelfde ogenblik op het podium eindigen. Ze beginnen ieder met het spelen van hun eigen stukje muziek, maar tijdens het spelen, realiseren ze zich dat beide delen elkaar aanvullen en bedoeld zijn om samen te worden gespeeld. De band, herenigd door deze voorstelling, eindigt met het winnen van de wedstrijd. Deze film is grotendeels een komedie, en een van de meest amusante delen van de film is de triangelspeler. De 25-koppige band splitst in twee banden van 12 elk, en de triangel speler weet niet bij welke band te gaan. Op het einde komen we te weten dat hij wist wat de wedstrijd inhield en waar alles wat ze meemaakten echt om draaide. Fanfare ontving een nominatie voor een Gouden Palm voor beste film op het Filmfestival van Cannes. ----Formal English---- Fanfare The 1958 Dutch film Fanfare is considered to be a landmark in the history of the Dutch film industry. Jan Blokker and Bert Haanstra wrote the screenplay, and the movie stars Bernard Droog, Hans Kaart, and Ineke Brinkman. In the beginning of the film, we meet the members of a brass band located in the village of Lower Wiede. The band is preparing for a major competition, but differences result in arguments and fighting among the band members. They end up splitting into two separate bands, and both bands decide to enter the contest on their own. A single composer actually writes two different pieces for both of the bands, and at first we hear two entirely different pieces. Of course a number of problems arise throughout the course of the story, but all of those issues result in both bands ending up on stage at the same time. Both begin playing their own piece of music, but as they play, we realize that both parts complement each other and are meant to be played together. The band, reunited through this performance, ends up winning the contest. This film is largely a comedy, and one of the most amusing parts of the film is the triangle player. The 25-member band splits into two bands of 12 people each, and the triangle player doesn't know which way to go. In the end, we learn that he knew what the contest and everything they were experiencing was really all about. Vermeer was niet een erg productieve schilder, en vandaag zijn er minder dan 40 schilderijen aan hem toegeschreven. De meeste van zijn schilderijen bevatten geel en korenbloem-blauw, en zijn het meest bekend om de manier waarop hij licht in zijn schilderijen gebruikte. Er zijn zeer weinig details bekend over het leven van Vermeer, en wat bekend is, komt uit openbare registers. Een historicus heeft Vermeer de bijnaam "De Sfinx van Delft" toebedeeld omdat er zo weinig bekend is over hem. Wel weten we dat hij werkte tijdens de Nederlandse Gouden Eeuw en dat hij in oktober 1632 werd gedoopt in de Hervormde Kerk in Delft. Vermeer's vader was een kunsthandelaar, en Vermeer nam diens bedrijf over na zijn dood in 1652. Een jaar later trouwde hij met een katholiek meisje met een rijke moeder, en zijn schoonmoeder oefende heel wat druk op hem uit om zich tot het katholicisme te bekeren voordat ze trouwden. Er bestaat twijfel over of hij zich wel ooit echt heeft bekeerd. Wat later kwamen ze bij zijn schoonmoeder inwonen. Vermeer en zijn vrouw hadden 14 kinderen, maar vier van hen stierven nog voordat ze gedoopt werden. Vermeer stierf in 1675 en liet zijn vrouw met aanzienlijke schulden achter nadat de kunstmarkt crashte. Na zijn dood raakte Vermeer in de vergetelheid, hoewel verscheidene Nederlandse kunstenaars door hem werden beïnvloed toen zijn werk in de jaren 1800 werd herontdekt. Salvador Dali, een van de meest bekende kunstenaars van alle tijden, werd sterk door Vermeer beïnvloed. There are very few details known about Vermeer's life, and what is known comes from public records. A historian has nicknamed Vermeer "The Sphinx of Delft" because of how little is known about him. We do know that he worked during the Dutch Golden Age and that he was baptized in the Reformed Church in Delft in October of 1632. Vermeer's father was an art dealer, and Vermeer took over his business upon his death in 1652. A year later, he married a Catholic with a wealthy mother, and his mother-in-law pressured him to convert to Catholicism before they got married. There is some doubt about whether he ever actually converted. Later they ended up moving in with his mother-in-law. Vermeer and his wife had 14 children, although four of them died before they were baptized. Vermeer died in 1675 and left his wife with substantial debts after the art market crashed. Vermeer slipped into obscurity upon his death, although several Dutch artists began to be influenced by him when his work was rediscovered in the 1800s.
