 330. A Thoughtful Gift: a story and relaxation for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:56

James is so relieved to have his blanket back he wants to make a blanket for Dragon. All the kids love the idea and soon they are all busy with a thoughtful gift. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “A Thoughtful Gift” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 9:34 A Thoughtful Gift Excerpt: Through the family room window James could see clouds blanketing the sky like a soft white blanket. James tucked his feet under as he snuggled with his blanket on the couch. He took a deep dragon breath, in and out enjoying the calming scent of his yellow blanket. James turned the next page of his story book, but his mind drifted away from the words he was reading. James realized how grateful he was to have his blanket back. He had felt worried and sad, wondering when, and if, he would find the soft blanket. Then James thought about Dragon. Dragon had loved his blanket for a little while, and now Dragon had no blanket. James had a warm cozy house to sleep in, his loving family, and his blanket was back. What did Dragon have? As James thought more, he worried that Dragon might be cold in the enchanted forest, with no blanket to snuggle. James didn’t want Dragon to feel sad and worried the way he had felt when his blanket was missing.   With that thought, James decided that Dragon should have a blanket too. He had a great idea. James hopped off the couch and put his book back on the shelf. Then James went to his room and opened his t-shirt drawer. James began to pull t-Shirt after t-shirt out. His sister Julia peeked in through his door. “What are you doing? She asked. By now, James had emptied out his drawer and was laying his t-shirts out on the floor.  704. Terrific Tour: a relaxing meditation and children’s story | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:33

Tom and Katie take a tour of the library, and Tom learns an appreciation for design. Narrator: Female Story Begins: 4:04 Terrific Tour Excerpt: On a rainy morning on Ahway Island, Tom Davis watched out the window of the car, looking beyond the droplets of water streaking down the glass. The rain outside was relentless, tapping a rhythm on the pavement and forming puddles that reflected the grey clouds above. As they drove along, the streets of downtown Ahway Island rolled by. They zoomed past the flower shop, the record store, and a new café, until a set of stately white columns came into view. “Look, Tom, we’re here!”  Katie Bowski pointed her finger toward the same distinguished building Tom was looking at. Tom and Katie were visiting the library together today because they were partners on a school project.  Their assignment was to make a diorama of someplace on Ahway Island that was special to them.  Tom and Katie had picked the library not only because they both loved to read, but they were also curious about how the library worked.  702. Fast Firefly: a children’s bedtime story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:11

Phaedra Firefly is playing with her friends one evening when she has an unexpected encounter. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:45 Fast Firefly Excerpt: It was a beautiful evening on Ahway Island. The sky was filled with pink clouds that glowed in the warm light. As the sun began to set, its radiant red and orange hues stretched across the horizon, casting a stunning glow over everything below. Eventually, the sun dipped below the horizon, leaving a trail of deep purples and blues. The sky filled with stars. The air was warm and inviting, and the sound of crickets and other nocturnal animals could be heard in the distance. Phaedra Firefly flew through the warm summer air, her tiny body illuminated by the soft glow emanating from her abdomen. It was a beautiful night in the park, and Phaedra was enjoying herself with her firefly friends, darting through the trees and playing tag with one another as they flew. The cool breeze brushed against her wings as she flew through the air, her luminescent body lighting up the darkness around her. Phaedra was especially good at playing tag. She prided herself on being so fast and evasive that no one could catch her. Phaedra could see that her friend Phillip Firefly was following her, trying to tap her with his glowing abdomen. Phaedra grinned mischievously, flitting left and right, up and down to avoid being caught and becoming ‘it’. Today’s Meditation: Imagine that you are a graceful willow tree in today's meditation. She blinked, and rumbled her engine, feeling a little surprised to be awakened so early. “Sorry Ellie. We have a lot of work to do, so I’m waking everyone up early.” The contractor said. Ellie’s garage door rolled up and she stretched and rolled out to the meeting place. Outside was a vehicle she hadn’t met before. “Hello, I’m Ellie.” Ellie welcomed the new vehicle. “Hi, I’m Connor.” The crane answered. “You look a little like me, but your arm bends down towards the ground.” Ellie replied with a laugh, “I was going to say, you look like me but your arm stands straight up.” Eventually Ellie and Connor were joined by: Danny and Dory the dump trucks; Ronald the Roller; and Dizzy the Cement Mixer. Dizzy perked right up when she noticed a new face. “Hi! I’m Dizzy? What’s your name? You’re really going to like it here. We all get along really well. I hope I get a chance to work with you soon. I only really get to do the projects when we need to use concrete. Ellie and Danny are lucky. They get to be a part of almost every single project.  700. Envelope Expedition: a children’s story and guided relaxation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:15

Elodie Envelope takes an exciting journey through the Ahway Island postal system! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 3:54 Envelope Expedition Excerpt: On a sunny morning on Ahway Island, the breeze was gentle, and the birds chirped merry little songs. Inside a cozy home office, Elodie Envelope sat patiently in a mesh drawer on the desk, looking out at the room. The sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow. The office was filled with colorful books, vibrant artwork, and a variety of desk supplies. Elodie could smell the sweet scent of flowers from the garden outside, and the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze could be heard faintly through the open window. Elodie loved her home in the cozy office and was content to wait patiently for her upcoming journey. Elodie had seen many little envelopes come and go from the office. She would watch curiously as C.J.’s dad carefully selected each item to be included in the envelope, folding them neatly and placing them inside.  Sometimes the item was paper he had pulled out of the printer, and sometimes it was a handwritten note. As Elodie observed, she couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. She knew that the envelope was about to embark on a journey full of adventure and surprises, and she couldn't wait to experience it for herself. So, the colorful unicorn stretched and hopped up onto his feet, eager to start today’s fun. Uli leapt off the bed and galloped over to the toy box. He hoped that Alyssa, the doll, was ready too. With a whiney, the gentle unicorn called to the doll. Alyssa stretched and peeked out from under the lid of the toy box. “Ready to get started?” Uli asked. Alyssa smiled and said, “Yes! First, let’s move this lid. The sun hasn’t woken everyone up in here.” “Good idea.” Uli agreed and galloped to the other side of the toy box. Alyssa waited until the unicorn was in place. Then she pushed her side of the toy box up, while Uli lifted the other. More and more sunlight spilled into the box. The toys inside began to stir. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:22 Sweet or Salty Excerpt: It was a warm, sunny morning in the Ahway Island Forest.  Aaliyah Ant yawned and stretched her six legs. She had just woken up from a nap.  Aaliyah had felt tired after helping dig a new tunnel for her colony, but after her nap, she felt refreshed and ready to continue her work. Aaliyah stood up and walked through the hallways and chambers of her anthill home.  As she walked, she could hear the voices of her fellow worker ants echoing through the halls.  They were all talking over one another, so Aaliyah couldn’t make out exactly what they were saying.  Despite the hubbub, Aaliyah could tell they were excited about something. Aaliyah rounded the corner of a tunnel and saw a group of worker ants. “Aaliyah! There you are!” one of them called.  “Did you hear?” Today’s Meditation: Imagine floating on a cloud, and relax into the feeling of lightness. Then the little girl skipped out the door and hurried over to the barn.  321. Cuddly Dragon: an original short story for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:36

Our cuddly dragon wakes up from a nap and brings the blanket back to thunderous applause at the end of a play. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Cuddly Dragon” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 10:22 Cuddly Dragon Excerpt: A gentle melody filled the enchanted forest as birds sang good afternoon. A breeze circled the cheerful birds and carried their song out of the forest. The singing air swirled into a flower garden, filled with flowers every color of the rainbow. Rich red roses at the garden’s entrance swayed to the musical breeze. The gentle wind carried the song to the soft peach roses and then the bright yellow blooms. Deep green leaves fluttered as the song and breeze waltzed by. Delicate bluebell flowers rang, and purple and white snapdragons smiled, as they listened to the song. Finally, the song found Dragon napping among the flowers. The dancing melody tickled Dragon’s ears. With a smile, Dragon woke. It was always wonderful to hear the joyful music of the birds.  Dragon blinked, eyes fluttering open to see the source of the song. Vibrant flowers softly swayed with the breeze releasing their refreshing scent.  Dragon took a deep breath, in and out, enjoying the floral fragrance. Then Dragon nuzzled the soft yellow blanket, still clutched in Dragon’s paws. There was a nervous fluttering in Dragon’s tummy. It was time to return the blanket to the kids. Like a little kitty in a favorite sunbeam, Dragon stretched and sat up. Thinking about where to bring the yellow blanket so that its owner would find it, Dragon slowly stood up. The sound of laughter caught Dragon’s attention. Kids were probably on the playground. That was it! Dragon would bring the blanket to the playground. The laughter hugged Dragon and Dragon felt encouraged to move towards the cheery sound. With a smile, Dragon skipped out of the flower garden and back to the edge of the forest. The trees helped Dragon feel confident and brave. Today’s Meditation: Rest among the twinkling stars with today's meditation. Callie Kim’s bedroom was gently lit by the overcast sunlight filtering in through the sheer curtains. Kaia Coloring Book sat peacefully on Callie’s desk. The little coloring book waited patiently for Callie to come back from school. Kaia listened carefully for the sound of the school bus coming to a halt outside the house. That sound meant that her friend would soon be home! The coloring book enjoyed the quiet time she spent with Callie. She liked it when Callie came home and covered her pages in all sorts of colors. While she waited, Kaia thought about when she first met Callie. Callie and her family had moved to Ahway Island recently. Callie was still a little anxious around the other kids at school. This meant that Callie often came home from school feeling stressed. Callie had very loving parents, and they knew that Callie enjoyed coloring. The colors would make her smile and help her relax. So, Mr. and Mrs. Kim gave Kaia to Callie to help her with stress. Today’s Meditation: Feel calm and relaxed as you imagine a baby elephant and its mama.  320. Show Time: a short story for kids | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:17

It's nearly show time for Rogelio, Helen and Brianna. So, Rogelio searches for a spot in the park to rehearse their original dragon play. Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Show Time” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Male Story Begins: 8:47 Show Time Excerpt: Rogelio scanned the park for a good spot to practice their play. He walked past the playground. Laughter filled the air as kids ran past Rogelio on their way to the swings. He watched as the kids propelled the swings higher and higher. Rogelio smiled and began to dart over to the swings. Then he stopped and reminded himself that he would be able to play on the swings another time. After all, Rogelio was excited to practice their play. His friends were eager to see what he had been working on with Brianna and Helen. So, Rogelio stepped away from the swings and told himself that now he had checked out the playground. There would not be enough room to practice, and they would be interrupted frequently by kids running through.   As Rogelio stepped off of the playground, he noticed an open field. That looked like plenty of space! Rogelio ran to the field. They would have all kinds of room there. He just knew Brianna and Helen would love it! Before Rogelio reached the field, another group of kids raced onto the field and began kicking a ball around. Rogelio stopped, his shoulders dropped down, disappointed. He took a deep dragon breath in and out. He realized that the field was a ball field. Oh well, there would be another place for them to practice.  319. Girl Power: a children’s story and meditation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:22

After Max teases her, Mia and her brother learn about women who have made a difference. Believing in girl power, Mia is ready to share what she learned with the world. Also released as part of Kids Listen "Women's History Sweeps." Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Girl Power” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday! Narrator: Female Story Begins: 11:13 Girl Power Excerpt: Mia carried her magnet blocks into the family room. Smiling, she sat down and spread the blocks out onto the floor. The mixture of colors was beautiful. Mia smiled and got busy building. She held a red piece close to a blue one and the strength of the magnets snapped the two blocks together. Mia giggled and picked up a yellow block and a green block. She held them a little further apart. The magnet was still strong enough to pull the blocks together.  Then Mia held a purple and an orange block even further apart. This time the two blocks fell to the floor separately. Hmmm, Mia wondered what was happening. Maybe it was just the purple and orange blocks. She decided to try her experiment again. Max, Mia’s brother set his book down and watched his little sister as she held the purple and orange block closer together. The two blocks snapped together, and Mia giggled. “What are you doing?” Max asked, feeling puzzled. “I’m doing experiments to see how powerful the magnets in my blocks are.” Mia replied excitedly. “I’m going to be a physicist, go on adventures and figure out how things work!” she announced.  689. Trike Travails: a bedtime meditation and story | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:38

Trudy Tricycle is so excited for tomorrow that she can't calm her mind for sleep. Narrator: Male Story Begins: 4:35 Trike Travails Excerpt: It was a calm, serene night on Ahway Island. The night sky was filled with bright, twinkling stars, and soft, shimmering moonlight reflected off the rooftops of the houses. The smell of freshly cut grass wafted through the air. Crickets chirped in the distance. It was peaceful and quiet. Although most of the neighborhood’s residents were nestled inside their homes, getting ready to sleep, Trudy Tricycle was wide awake. She had so much energy, that she found herself making circles in  her spot in the cozy garage she shared with Bing Bicycle. “Trudy…” Bing said from his corner. “Come on, it’s nearly time for bed.”  Trudy did one more spin so that she could face Bing. “I know,” Trudy replied, “But I’m just so excited! I don’t think I can ever fall asleep!” Today’s Meditation: Imagine that you are a graceful willow tree in today's meditation.
