283: Matt Gagnon | Shame & Addiction to Living With a Courageous Heart | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3928

Matt Gagnon is a professional Co-Active coach certified by the Coaches Training Institute, credentialed by the International Coach Federation, a member of the Forbes Coaches Council, keynote speaker, best selling author, and brings 15 years of corporate sales and leadership experience…but there is more to a person than just their accomplishments…there is a journey.Matt believes in living a life aligned with your values. We all have up to five core values - that when honored, evoke the best in us. The problem is that many people live life with values defined by others leaving one feeling empty and like they are never enough. Below is a snapshot of his journey and why he has chosen to serve others as a mindset coach.Born and raised in the woods of central Maine where he graduated from Thomas College with a degree in Marketing Management and where he met his future wife, Nikki. As an athlete, leader within his school and community, Matt did everything to check off the boxes that would describe a successful person. He even had an internship with NBA Champions, The San Antonio Spurs in 2003 where he was mentored by future Oklahoma Thunder General Manager, Sam Presti.By the summer of 2006 Matt was recruited and relocated to Austin, TX by Cole Haan. Matt would spend the next 9 years building and leading powerful teams for some of the most iconic brands on the planet including Under Armour, Carter’s/Osh Kosh.Matt was living what looked like a successful life with a six-figure job, nice house, nice car, nice clothes, etc. Behind the curtain he was actually spirally out of control resulting in chronic illness, depression, addiction, and an attempted suicide. After 15 years in the retail industry Matt had three major events in his life that set him on a course into entrepreneurship and coaching. In April of 2013 Matt’s son, Fox, was born. As soon as Matt held his son for the first time he knew that he wanted to show his son that it’s never too late to pursue your true calling in life and to build something of your own. One month later Matt would lose his best friend and mentor, his Dad. The quote from Matt below best speaks to his experience:"For 15 years I sold my soul to the corporate lifestyle. I missed birthday parties, family events, holidays, funerals, anniversaries...I was missing out on life. With having little to no boundaries at work, I burned myself out to the point I had to go on medical leave with several severe and life threatening health issues."The third and final event that spurred his quest to serve others as a coach was by the spring of 2015 when Matt’s health issues become too complicated to continue his work in retail and this is where he started to focus on his health and building a new future for him and his family. He was diagnosed with a handful of rare illnesses that impacted his physical and mental health…to this day Matt says it was the best thing to ever happen to him. After leaning into his faith and surrendering control, Matt stopped being a victim and chose to see his adversity as a call to adventure. Jobless, negative bank account, infant son, unemployed spouse, and a new home, Matt used a purely grass-roots effort to build a thriving international coaching business. He focused on protecting his supply lines (prayer time, sleep, nutrition, fitness, inner circle of friends) and rediscovered his core values. He chose to write his own comeback story.Today Matt is helping transform lives across the globe by encouraging people to rediscover their core values, regain control of their lives, and empower them to live the life they have always wanted. This is how he defines “Living With a Courageous Heart."- https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattgagnon1/-

282: Ishveen Anand | Journey to Inc 100 Top Female Founders | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1763

Ishveen Anand is the founder and CEO OpenSponsorship. The startup was born out of her experience as a successful sports agent in India and the UK. OpenSponsorship now has over 2000 athletes, teams and events being managed to brands globally looking for sports marketing opportunities. Ishveen was included in the Forbes 30under30 sports list in 2015 and OpenSponsorship was named a finalist in the 2015 Sports Technology Awards, category of best technology facilitating commercial returns. She graduated from Oxford University. She is of Indian-British origin, now living in New York where OpenSponsorship is based. At age 34, Ishveen Anand already has a decade of experience working in the world of professional sports, but investors still doubt her when she pitches her sports marketing startup, OpenSponsorship. “I’m of Indian origin, I’m British, I’m female, I’m young,” she says. “When I walk in and I’m like, ‘Hey, we’re changing how brands work with NFL players,’ they’re like, ‘Really? Are you?’” Five years in, Anand is proving that her concept—a two-way marketplace that lets brands and athletes find each other for endorsement opportunities—can work. She’s also proving that she’s the right woman for the job: OpenSponsorship has been profitable since 2017, with revenue of $1.1 million last year, and recently inked its highest-profile client yet, alcohol giant Anheuser-Busch—all off $1.3 million in seed funding. Anand aimed to show profits as quickly as possible because, as a woman operating in a male-dominated industry, she knew that investors and clients alike wanted to see more from her than the potential for success. “Any room I get into, they’re always going to ask for another data point,” she says. “And I know I’m going to have to give it.” --Cameron Albert-Deitch- https://www.linkedin.com/in/ishveenanandPlease do NOT hesitate to reach out to me for any reason on LinkedIn, Instagram, via email mark@vudream.com, text me 508-925-0261!LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/markmetry/Twitter - https://twitter.com/markymetryMedium - https://medium.com/@markymetryFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/Humans.2.0.PodcastMark Metry - https://www.markmetry.com/Humans 2.0 Twitter - https://twitter.com/Humans2Podcast

281: Justin Halas | Homeless Drug Addict to Leading Recovery Program | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2930

Following Story is from the Bradenton HeraldBlue-eyed, tattooed Justin Halas started his journey toward recovery right before Manatee County’s opioid epidemic furiously ramped up, responsible for taking with it hundreds of lives.“But I’m telling you for a thousand percent fact I would be dead if I was still using because of what was going around,” the 34-year-old said. “I was looking for that kind of stuff.”It began as polishing off his parents’ leftover alcohol at age 12, then drinking and smoking weed every day at 14. Then he got a hold of cocaine, acid and ecstasy. When Halas wasn’t homeless, he was in “trap motels” out of which drugs were sold. Accidents led him to prescription painkillers, and to heroin.Over the past few years heroin has slowly become more and more responsible for overdose deaths in Manatee, with cocaine and fentanyl deaths also on the rise. The latest report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Medical Examiners Commission showed that last year, the drugs most responsible for overdose deaths in Manatee were cocaine and carfentanil, a fentanyl analog used as a large animal tranquilizer that can be 5,000 times stronger than heroin.“When I was on my last run on the street ... when I came out this time, I felt something different inside,” he said. “But at the same time there was no difference in my outside circumstance.”He said that could have been “a guaranteed relapse.” He knows at least 40 friends that have died of drug overdoses.“I always tell people that when I got the gift of desperation and finally had the willingness to seek out God, seek out help and take suggestions from people, that was the day my whole life changed,” he said.Today, he paints a different picture. Still blue-eyed, still tattooed, but he has been sober for the past four years and now is accompanied by a constant beam of positivity that embodies his outreach program. For the past two years he has run the High on Jesus ministry, which is a blend of the 12-step program and the Bible.“I would always try to fill that hole inside of me with money, or cars, or clothes, or women, or whatever it was working out,” he said. “And those all feel good temporarily, but still then it leaves you wanting more over and over again. So I found in doing this stuff what I’ve been looking for my entire life and you can get high on Jesus.”The program once ran out of Harvest United Methodist Church, but due to financial difficulty he wasn’t able to continue his involvement with the program, on top of visiting the jail recovery pods and First Step’s Choices recovery program for men. After a six-month hiatus, his Friday night sessions are back — this time, out of a yoga studio.“I don’t have a hell and brimstone message, you know what I mean? I go in there and I tell people, ‘You can change your life through this,’ ” he said.Halas also works part-time at Bradenton’s Faith United Methodist Church as an outreach director.“With all his tattoos and this and that, he’s an interesting guy,” said Pastor Gary Eldred. “Your first impression is, ‘Who is this guy?’ I’m pleased that the church has embraced him.”The church hosts six Alcoholics Anonymous groups, but Eldred said the church wanted to help alleviate the opioid epidemic in Manatee County. Through his network of pastors, he found Halas.“He just has a powerful package to present,” he said. The 34-year-old presents three commitments of his program: to Christ, to the 12-step program and to positivity.“I’m just not about being sober. That’s just one level. Then I want to take you to the next level,” Halas said. “I want people to not only be sober, but to have true peace, true joy and to live a happy, successful life.”Eldred said that although most of his congregation aren’t part of the...
