Vermont Dog Trainer Show

Hey Podcasters! I think there is a big myth about when and where a leash should be used.  It's amazing what kind of progress you can make with your dog inside your home using a leash.  But it also can be done a couple different ways.  Take a listen!

There is nothing like seeing the orange signs that say "Road Construction Ahead". This tends to put a damper on our travel plans. And then you see the person with the "Stop/Slow" sign and you realize you might be slowing down to a stop. But you may be surprised to hear how this helps you deal with your dog. Courtesy 93.9 WLVB

Mike admits that he was a "troubled youth" which led him into working at a kennel which led him into Ring Work for the breeder.  As he grew older he ended up in the army and was asked to work with the military dogs which was a very interesting conversation.  Mike seems as cool as a cucumber and I'm sure the dogs he works with can sense it as well! 

Hey Podcasters - It's been a heck of a week this week with the Pet Food Drive.  You won't believe what we have accumulated so far.  The outpouring of support has been TREMENDOUS! Plus listen to how one of my private lessons went this week. 

Look at how many warning signs a dog will give to avoid a conflict.  Eye contact, growl, head low, show teeth, lunge, air snap, and then maybe a bite.  These are a lot of signs that will happen before a dog jumps into a conflict because to me they don't want to be a part of it. 

This pet food drive has taken on a personality of it's own already.  We are receiving donations daily and I can't wait to see how much food we actually will receive!  Courtesy WLVB

Stacia hasn't been training for long but you wouldn't know it.  She has her career headed in the right direction and this type of thing only takes time.  The more dogs she can work with the better off she will be.  Her time spent grooming dogs has helper her immensely with training dogs.  This is what I love about this podcast, I can talk with veteran trainers with 30+ years of experience and also trainers with less than 5 years of experience and we can all learn something. 

Serena came to me with the idea of doing a pet food drive.  Honestly my original image of it was not something I wanted to do.  However the more I thought about it the more I wanted to do it, but do it big!  Plus listen how I gave Serena a pop quiz in Vermont Dog Trainer Culture!

Krystal had such a refreshing voice and confidence about her during our interview. She has created some wonderful systems that has allowed her to have 2 different facilities in 2 different states. Along with her husband Eric, they are training dogs in both South Carolina and Indiana. Every heard of the OODA Loop? Well you are about to!

Serena and I went back and looked at the tape from our small scuffle last week. You will be surprised to hear how long it lasted. Plus we talk about why I decided to bring our Board & Trains back into our training programs.
