Rosanne hired me to visit her facility in Athens, Ohio to teach her and her staff how to socialize dogs. When she opened her facility it grew quicker than she could ever imagine. I visited her last month for 3 days and had a BLAST working with everyone there. We talked about safety, how to get dogs out of kennels, and how to socialize groups of dogs so she can run a safe daycare. At the end of the 3 days we sat down to record this podcast and discuss her experience. ENJOY!
I'm humbled that there are so many people listening to my podcast. I took a moment to reflect on the past 2+ years and what it has all meant to me. I hope you are getting something from this podcast and if you are truly enjoying it, please share it with your dog friends.
Well after I got back from vacation we had some overnight drama at work. Nobody was hurt but we can look back it now and laugh. Let's just say Serena had her work cut out for her. LOL
Can you teach an old dog new tricks? You sure can but, and it's a big BUT! They have been practicing the same behaviors for several years so it takes a lot of work and patience to get anywhere with the older dogs. But when you see those light bulb moments on the dog's face it's a feeling like nothing else! Courtesy 93.9 WLVB
Intensity and Sensitivity play a large role in understanding dog behavior. What most dog owners aren't aware of is that dogs that lunge and act out are some of the most sensitive dogs, but it also looks intense. Confused yet? Take a listen!
If you have ever watched dogs play, you will see that that may change roles or positions. One will be standing while the other lying down and then they switch roles. It's a healthy way for dogs to play, practice, and get along. Courtesy 93.9 WLVB
Have you been walking your dog on leash down a trail and see a dog coming at you off leash? Then you hear the voice say "My Dog's Friendly" from a distance. Meanwhile you're working on your dog's over-reactivity and your response to the distant voice is "Mine's Not". Listen in for my advice on how to handle the situation.
Dog Training Do dogs experience Jealousy?
Dog Training Coming home after vacation can be tiring! But if you don't bring your dog(s) with you then they will be looking to get right back into routine. Don't slack off now, snap into routine as quickly as you can!
Dog Training The rules of the game are an important aspect in the world of socializing dogs. Understanding how dogs set boundaries first followed by play is essential in the dog world. Listen in to how I discovered this in my own setting and how it pertains to your dog at home.
Dog Training Can big and small dogs get along? Are they supposed to? Should they fight? Dogs are social creatures and it's instinctual for them to get along with each other under the right circumstances.
Dog Training It was a pleasure talking to John. He owns a Belgian Malinois and he has some great advice for people that are looking to adopt one. He seems like a down to earth guy with a bunch of experience. I'm happy to have John be a part of the "50 State Family".
Dog Training It's been an amazing 5 years with Serena, she has excelled in her job more than I could ever ask. I first hired her on as an employee that would come in at night to let the dogs out. 5 years later she is my right hand "wo-man" and is one of the hardest workers I've ever been around. Take a listen as we stroll down memory lane!
Dog Training I sat down with Amanda, Melissa, and Linn at the conclusion of the workshop last Friday. It was such a fun group and we all had a great time. It's amazing to hear how my "story" of things not feeling right brought these 2 women to this workshop. Enjoy!
