Book Vs Movie Podcast

Summary: Book Vs. Movie is the podcast that ponders the question: "Which was better...the book or the movie?" We spoil away the details, uncover the plot points, discuss casting choices and shower with praise (or pummel with snark) as we see fit. Hosts are Margo P. (She's Nacho Mama's Blog) and Margo D. (Creator of Brooklyn Fit Chick.com) and we are not afraid to tell it like it is!

Book vs Movie "The Outsiders" (Replay) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:44

Download it for Johnny! The Margos are back and they are ready to rumble! This was actually one of the more popular episodes back in our first season but we knew we could make it sound so much better so here’s to another REDO ep!

Book Vs Movie "The Godfather" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:08:45

We are here to make an offer you can’t refuse--a redo of Mario Puzo’s The Godfather. The Margos originally covered this book and movies (well, really movies) three years ago when we were both fighting the flu.  The result was kind of a meandering mess which we have always been embarrassed by vowed to redo one day as the material calls for nothing less than our best efforts.

Book Vs Movie "The Prestige" (With Pre-Show Corrections) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:26

The Margos get a little magical in this listener-suggested book to movie adaptation that features sleight of hand, lots of dead birds, women in jeopardy and a twist ending you either did or didn’t see coming a mile away.

Book Vs Movie "Cold Comfort Farm" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:21

We have NO idea why it took us so long to finally tackle this charming book and movie--but we are so grateful to the listeners for suggesting this idea to us! The story of 19-year-old Flora Poste (recently orphaned) who comes to Cold Comfort Farm with a pittance of an inheritance who has the gift of helping people achieve their dreams.

Book Vs Movie "Gone Girl" (Replay) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:15

The Margos take on one of the most contested and debated films of the past books AND movies of the last few years-- Gone Girl. If there was ever a story that was picked apart, praised, maligned and worshipped more than the 2012 novel by Gillian Flynn we have yet to hear about it.

Book Vs Movie "Big Fish" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:43

Book Vs Movie "Big Fish"

Book Vs Movie "Girl Interrupted" (Replay) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:10:34

Are you ready to learn a whole lot about Borderline Personality Disorder? You better damn well be because the Margos sure did after reading Girl Interrupted and man we just LOVE this book and movie discussion!

Book Vs Movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:35

The Margos were shocked to find out that the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit (directed by Robert Zemeckis) was based on a very dark book titled Who Censored Roger Rabbit by author Gary K. Wolf which meant, of course, we had to cover them both for our show. (Thanks to all of the members of our Facebook group for pointing us in this direction!)

Book Vs Movie "The Princess Bride" (Replay) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:23

Inconceivable! The Margos decided to redo a Book Vs. Movie podcast ep by taking on one more time (and even better) the book/movie The Princess Bride. We are always surprised to find that our listeners did not realize that the beloved classic movie was at one time a book. And that said book is very meta and multi-layered. Spoiler--we love BOTH of the versions of The Princess Bride and are so excited to be able to talk about it all once again!

Book vs Movie "Jurassic Park" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:02:14

Bring on the special, practical effects (with little CGI, please) because the Margos redo one of their more polarizing takes on a project created by two world-class geniuses--Michael Crichton and his good friend Steven Spielberg. Amazingly, Crichton came up with the original concept in the early 1980s and it took several drafts to create the novel that would be known as Jurassic Park.

Book Vs Movie "Catch Me If You Can" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:55

The Margos go for the short con here and discuss all things Frank Abagnale, a man who between 16-21 years old was the most competent (and weirdly likable) fraud impersonating a pilot, lawyer, doctor, and teacher before finally getting caught by the FBI. He also cashed fraudulent checks around the U.S. and around the world to the tune of almost $2 million.

Book vs Movie (Replay) "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:09:32

The Margos delve into the world of fantasy in this episode discussing the Ranson Riggs’ Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children which spent 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list in 2012 and spawned two sequels Hollow City and Library of Souls.

Book Vs. Movie "Call Me By Your Name" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:41

The Margos are feeling 80s and dreamy with this episode talking about Call Me by Your Name. The book came out in 2007 to quite a bit of acclaim for the American/Egyptian author Andre Aciman which tells the story of a 17-year-old Elio Perlman who meets and falls in love with 24-year-old Oliver during a stay in Italy in the summer of 1987.

Book Vs Movie "Jaws" (Replay) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:37

The Book Vs. Movie podcast takes on (again!) the 1975 classic movie Jaws as well as the truly not-so-great 1974 novel from the otherwise very thoughtful author (and shark supporter) Peter Benchley. We covered this topic two years ago but our old ways of recording thing leave quite a bit to be desired so we decided to take it on again. (Besides, who doesn’t love watching Jaws for the hundredth time?)
