TVC088 The Mojo Maker 3 Steps From Doubt To Drivers Seat | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:39

TVC088 The Mojo Maker 3 Steps From Self Doubt To Drivers Seat It’s a whole new phase for me and I’d like to bring you on the journey.   This weeks podcast episode launches my new show name The Mojo Maker – for leaders in life. It’s kicking off with the all too common topic of self doubt and why no one is exempt from the little voice in the back of our heads telling us “it can’t be done”, you’re not enough”.  Amongst the drive and tenacity we have to design a daily life we love, and thrive in our work and home life – is a cheeky and almost pestilent ego that sits in the back waiting for a weak moment to pounce.  From the meetings with clients and messages lately I’ve been receiving  – it seems the ego is getting louder for us all.  Our EGO is not our Amigo. So I’ve nicknamed this the Self Doubt Epidemic. Here’s my story lately and how to go from negative to firmly back in the drivers seat for your purpose in life. The Self Doubt Epidemic The epidemic that hits us all, no matter what stage, age and title in life. We feel pulled back into the stories of what we thought we should be in our careers and unsure about our future vision. Of where we think we’re heading. We lose sight of being very present. I absolutely have this too. Over the past 3 months as I worked on evolving my business and writing the next book yet the black tar, or the raven as some people call it, was thick as thieves in the back of my mind. This yin and yang and negotiation back and forth can be really, really unsettling mentally, physically and emotionally.   What happens when self doubt overrides our drive to do the work and keep moving forward? It’s probably a good signal to stop, press pause and get REALLY connected on your purpose not just your profit lead activities. Going from head to heart lead can be a pivotal point for finding energy you never knew you had.    Going to YOUR next level What happens when you reach a point in your career when you’ve got the title or you have the accolades, or you reach this time with your family? Maybe you sold a business or you developed into C-suite role, you’ve just sent your last child off to university and the house is quiet.  You look up and think, is this it – or now what? Most of the people I work with on a day-to-day basis or that I’m fortunate enough to hang out with are really high-achieving performers in areas of life. Whether your a at home entrepreneur, an athlete, artists, a CEO or if they’re just developing great careers inside organisations there is this massive commonality that causes a ripple in the ocean for courage and conviction in what we do:  “Am I enough, and is it ever enough?” Where ever you are right at this point – is exactly where you need to be. You are ENOUGH. It is ENOUGH. Practicing the art of recognising that is  Mojo is Being in the NOW and knowing you are Enough.    BE YOURSELF AND DO THAT REALLY REALLY WELL   Firstly: Do not compare or judge We’re so good at looking to other people and assuming we know all about them and where they might sit just because of what they might post on social media or they might present to us in one form, of who they are. We just don’t know the full story. Stop looking outward and just really enjoy the journey for yourself. Do the work. Being aware means creating a short chemistry check emotionally not just in your head. * Repeat the mantra – I am enough,

 TVC086 Deplete or Complete | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:36

TVC086 Deplete or Complete – Mojo Making Express Episode The personal and professional inventory for purpose, people and profit. Why it’s crucial to reflect and assess on a regular basis in leadership and life.    The DELETE & COMPLETE SHEET(TM) – my express session I use to help clients (and myself) re-set feeling off balance and on autopilot. This is a vital tool to finding your glide and reducing stress personally and commercially. There’s always going to be responsibility that comes with adult life and running a business, but it’s the areas we all have choices on that are vital to assess and connect. Make an inventory on a regular basis. * What things/people/projects/situations deplete you? * What things/people/projects/situations complete and fulfil you? Here are the 3 steps for the deplete or complete sheet – find your glide without judgement or comparison. Step 1. Give Yourself Permission To Choose You are in the drivers seat of your life and work. Regardless of how we feel when we are ‘trapped’ in certain circumstances or within constraints, there is always room to assess and reflect. The first step is to recognise there is always a choice. Too scared to open the box? Often we don’t want to press pause and look at where the feeling of frustration, overwhelm or just pure feeling fed up comes from, as it could be like opening Pandora’s Box. The are of mastering the glide is to do smaller, regular inventories – or Mojo checks I like to call them, so you are in tune with your intuition and not pushing things down below the surface. Trust your gut. It’s the strongest compass you will ever have.   Step 2: Draw Up The Two Columns So once you’ve gotten over yourself and you actually want to sit down and get things done (congrats), the next step is to draw up a left column (DEPLETE) and a right hand column (COMPLETE). Pen and paper. Not digital.   Step 3: Complete The Deplete and Complete List Without thinking too much just list all the things that drain you, drag you off course or have you feeling depleted on the left hand side. Then on the right do the same for all the people, places, projects and ideas that light you up. Where do you ADD value and where are you valued. Once you have done that it’s time to start adjusting your sails and ensure you are nourishing the COMPLETE column and being aware and not putting too much emphasis or time wasting in the DEPLETE column. This doesn’t mean ‘un-friending’ clients and people in a rage of DELETE – it’s an internal recognition of who and what to invest in.   A footnote to all this: is please remember that part of sustainable happiness and success means daily work on #adulting. Don’t ignore the responsibilities that come with the fruits of living a great life. Admin, friends, family, ME time and giving back are all crucial ingredients and should not be seen as a chore. The are the  6 pillars of Ultimate Vitality and should be done with purpose daily. If you’re not sure how to integrate that then use code FYF50 for The Vitality Road Map online and take advantage of Mojo making 50% off the online course with me to get you out of negotiating time and back into a purposeful winning week.   Here’s the vl...

 TVC085 Mindset With Michelle Chalfant | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:42

TVC085 Mindset With Michelle Chalfant Talking Mindset Mojo with therapist Michelle Chalfant from The Adult Chair.  Why it’s crucial to re-set your intentions, get out of your own way and find the space to live BELOW THE CHIN instead of the stories in our head. We touch on the top tips to get back in the drivers seat, avoid the old nostalgic stories and shift from ego to heart driven decisions. Michelle and I connected via social media and immediately knew we shared the same focus for clarity and levelling up in life. Her in Tennesse and little old me in Noosa at the time. We had a great video chat but technology didn’t allow that to shine the other week so I’ve opted for audio. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this open and refreshing conversation we had about leaning in, asking for help, knowing it’s OK to hear voices and how to tell them to be quiet. Here’s 7 steps for regaining your mindset mojo.    Mindset Mojo 1: The first relationship starts with yourself.   It’s important that you figure out what your ingredients are for your own personal, emotional, mental, and spiritual well being. Then you can start attracting and developing the right relationships, whether it’s work or whether it’s personal. The first thing it starts with yourself. What are the biggest challenges you face at the moment? Are you overwhelmed – feeling like wading through mud.  Have you come unstuck from their mojo? What do you think the three top challenges other people are facing at the moment with everything going on? No matter what we are doing. When we get overwhelmed, we typically go outside of ourselves to look to find help with stopping that overwhelmed. We might go then for a glass of wine or we go out and do something, eat, watch t.v. We do something to numb our pain instead of looking directly at our pain or our overwhelmed. The first step is to pause and start a personal chemistry check. Start looking inside of ourselves and turning toward ourselves when we feel overwhelmed or afraid or stressed or stuck or whatever it is. Stop going outside for the answers. As you know, if you ask ten people a question about how to guide you in your life, you’ll get ten different responses. We know that when we turn inside of ourselves, that’s where all of our truth is.   Mindset Mojo 2: Slow Down Reflect Regularly on Facts and Stats. (Think Like A CEO) Learn how to slow down, go inside, meditation, journaling, all of these things take us inside. Spending some time in quiet and getting present. Set up daily habits where we are doing that every single day. If we don’t do this Or else we are looking outside of ourselves, which creates more overwhelmed and more stress.   It’s just pressing pause and thinking, “You know what? What’s important to me now? You have to have a strong enough why.  What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to accomplish living with less stress? Are you trying to accomplish living with less overwhelmed? Losing weight, getting in better shape. We are so wise, but if we go outside of ourselves we can’t feel the true intuition. We are not going to find the answers. We’ve got to connect inside and find out what our why is.      Mindset Mojo 3: Where’s your attention pointed? When we know what we are pointing toward, then we can line up our day toward that goal. So many of us don’t even take a pause to find out what we want to do. When we can pause, then we can tune into our internal guidance system.  When we can go there,

TVC084 Your Ego Is Not Your Amigo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:41

TVC084 Your Ego Is Not Your Amigo Your Ego Is Not Your Amigo – How to create clear goals, feel cemented in your choices and ask for support when you need it the most. Stepping out of your own way to design a life you love and remove self doubt.  Welcome back to the Vitality Coach Podcast, the first one for 2018, and lucky enough I’m able to be based from the home office this week before I head out on tour again and about to deliver some great workshops to leaders in the coming weeks. Most importantly as everyone is setting their intent and goals for the year ahead – there is a little useful tool to recognise the road blocks that pop up (often subconsciously), how to step aside from those and fly. I like to call it heart leadership. Getting out of your head and into your real GPS for decision making.  Your Ego Is Not Your Amigo So, how do you get out of your head and into your heart this year to make really centred, focused, calm, effortless success driven decisions. I just want to give you a couple of my mojo making tips on: * how you can get out of your own way * set really good goals this year * achieve them seamlessly, week on week for masterful months and a remarkable 2018.   Step 1: Recognising The Voice Inside your heart is overtaking your heart lead decisions. How To Divorce The Stories And Get the Facts & Stats. What is it that determines all these stories and the alter egos in our head? We don’t give ourselves permission to shine when we are constantly in a dialogue of self doubt. Why bother, why do this, why do this? You should do that, all these big constraining kind of fears and boundaries that are constantly being presented to you, no matter how old you are or where your own life, everybody has them. You never really completely get rid of those stories, but what you can do is start recognising all the different egos that sit inside you, and just give them a little nod of acknowledgment and realise that you don’t have to be defined by those discussions. It is the most powerful thing when you can untether your soul as Michael Singer says.  From knowing that your head and your heart are two different entities. When you start to have a heart leadership driven life, when you start to listen to what your true values, your true inner compass, your GPS, that ultimate vitality road map –  things become a lot simpler. Step 2: Recognise the thought, park it and move on There’s always going to be challenges, it doesn’t matter where you’re at, whether you’re at university, starting your new business, leading the corporation, just selling yours or looking at legacy right now. Everyone struggles with some element of self doubt at some point, of being awake at times with anxiety, of worrying about uncertainty and not trusting decisions.  We’re going to have history, we’re going to have family history, we’re going to have history at work. We’re all going to have challenges that we have to overcome. We’re going to have to think about finance, health, friends, family – a whole melting pot of elements to juggle as we grow through life. So that’s a given. What isn’t a given is how you deal with it.   It’s absolutely your choice how you deal with the things that come across your path. That’s purely down to your perspective.    When you are faced with a limiting belief or a mental road block that keeps occurring, recognise it, consider where that old belief may come from, park it and move on.  Step 3: Choose Your Filter A lot of people tell me that I walk around with rose tinted glasses...

 TVC083 Tegan Martin Creating Space | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:47

TVC083 Tegan Martin Creating Space Talking the importance of space, your dream team and listening to your own intuition with Model, wellness advocate and former Miss Universe Australia, Tegan Martin. Working together with Tegan last week on her “what’s  next” we ran through some of the core criteria for effortless success and the steps needed to navigate busy worlds and a fresh perspective on what success really looks like. What happens when you are transitioning in careers. How do you deal with and avoid overwhelm. Who to trust, how to re-group and so much more even before you start working through a business and personal strategy for sustainable growth. Early in 2018 Tegan will have a chance to share her personal story from young model to budding influencer and advocate for wellbeing. In the mean time we got together for a quick express session on the importance of cocooning to get focused and find out what is vital for your next steps in business and life. Here’s some of the quick tips on why you need to take time to cocoon and define how to: * Have the right people around you * Create your decision making criteria * Use the create not chase approach 1. Having the right people around you No matter where you are in your career, and surrounding yourself with good people to work with that lift you up. Tegan felt like it’s something that she was only aware of probably about six months ago.  “When I started weeding out the people around me that weren’t necessarily serving me anymore. and started manifesting the type of people that I wanted in my life, and the type of people that would inspire me on a daily basis, and what do you know? All of a sudden they start showing up, literally at your doorstep in some cases”. 2. Be clear on your decision making criteria – defining what great looks life In this first kick-off, we did Tegans’ decision making criteria around what type of jobs she wanted to do, who to work with and what values were important to align with. So, really actually taking the time to define what great looked like for you. Tegan: Exactly. I think it’s really easy to just start taking on any opportunity rather than what is super aligned with who you are, especially if there’s money involved. So, that’s one thing that I wanted to work on with Nik. Facing challenges of saying no and being decisive can be scary as it reflects a feeling of scarcity in case other work does not come to fruition. Especially if you’re in an industry where it’s about selling you, and your face and you’re now stepping into that new broader role, which really requires running yourself as a business. Tegan: Yeah, definitely. I think that most models, people in the entertainment industries, journalists, people on television have, at some point, experienced that scarcity mindset. It is the type of industry where you can be replaced overnight by a younger, more vibrant, energetic version of you, so you do always have that in the back of your head, and it’s also really hard to get through the rollercoaster of emotions that you go through when you have without work. So, 2018 for me is all about creating my own work and never feeling like I’m relying on external people for my … what’s a good word? For my … 3. Create not Chase It’s crucial to feel like you are in the drivers seat so once you have defined who you need around you and what type of work you love to do it’s time to create the game plan, content, opportunities and genuine connections that align with those elements. Making time out that you could actually create the content that you wanted to do, that you could look at your contracts properly. You’re the CEO of your business and your life....

TVC082 Life After Awesome Chris Lochhead | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:57

TVC082 Life After Awesome With Chris Lochhead What To Do Next When You’ve ‘Made It’ This weeks show is with special guest and entrepreneurial guru, Chris Lochhead, co-author of Play Bigger and also the master behind the Legends and Losers podcast Chris calls himself a small E-entrepreneur – with the reality of his experience being quite the opposite as true influencer.  Staring his first company at 18, after getting thrown out of school – Chris ultimately became the head of marketing for three publicly traded technology companies in Silicon Valley. Born and raised  in Canada he moved to Silicon Valley about 21 years ago. The last company Chris was with as head of marketing, was a company called Mercury Interactive and they sold the company for about 5 billion dollars to Hewlett Packard. After that, Chris retired for the first real time, and then ended doing coaching and consulting for start ups and venture capital firms – which lead him to started a business with two friends, called Play Bigger. Between the independent advising and the work we did at Play Bigger, the three of us and another genius named Kevin Maney, wrote this book called Play Bigger. We broke down this discipline called category design in the book, which came out in June of 2016, and then I retired – officially.   With all that behind him, and no stranger to being the top of the corporate and innovation food chain – Chris made a conscious decision on what was next. Spending a lot of time with my family in beautiful Santa Cruz, California.  Now, Chris is “mostly retired” and his passion in life is his show the Legends and Losers podcast. Well worth having on your Must Listen To list.   …so when there’s waves I surf. I surfed this morning. I still do a little bit of speaking and I still do a very little bit of work with a few companies.  Mostly, I’m just trying to be half the man my mother thinks I am, or mother thinks I should be. Something like that.   What does life after awesome look like? How does someone who has made their career happen, invested time and IP into companies, being part of many mergers and acquisitions – move on to What’s Next? By the way, before we go into this it’s very important to realise that many times what is defined as AWESOME is usually just what we feel we need, should and must be doing based on our own expectations or what is ingrained in us as we grow up. This expectation builds up. Many of us chase titles and a place in society connected to getting a role, working through the ranks and having your businesses define who you are – without even realising it. A kind of success conditioning. Along the way there is often collateral damage as personal and commercial life became out of balance.  So the big issue question is what happens to those high achievers once they have ticked all those boxes how do you  stay relevant and decide what to do next. Chris: It’s such a powerful question. You never see anything or hear anything, really, in the world about what happens after you win. Right? It’s all about winning. It’s all about getting to whatever this place is and then if you get to whatever your definition of that place is, then what the F? We don’t talk about that. Here’s the thing, in a lot of ways life as you know, is about how we identify with ourselves and who we are for us.  I think a challenge for a lot of entrepreneurs,

 TVC081 Paddling With Knives | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:17

TVC081 Paddling With Knives   Paddling With Knives.  Why conviction is crucial for success, taking leaps of faith and how to create a culture where fear of failure does not exist.I took this to The Panel. A new set of episodes with friends of mine and thought leaders Stephen Scott Johnson (author of Emergent) and Mark Truelson (Mr Disruption).  On this episode we talk about how to stop making lots of noise without actually doing anything and to be successful in business and in life you need to be able to lead from the front. 4 Steps to turn yourself around to take leaps of faith and lean in to the fear for greater rewards.   What does is mean to be paddling with knives, how can you stop the strive and start the thrive. * Identifying those around you who make a lot of noise but don’t get a lot of things done * Identifying your own road blocks and fear of failure What to do when you feel like when people around you, or yourself are really, really busy, but nothing’s happening? Paddling With Knives – Where’s that analogy from? It’s actually a surf analogy. When you’re going into a massive, big wave, and, instead of doing big strokes, with nice, conscious effort, you’re paddling with your hands like knives,  sideways instead of pulling through the water. Which means creating a lot of fuss and not a lot of movement. Usually, this is caused by a sense of fear, or a sense of needing to hold back. So how does that relate to every day life. When people create a lot of noise and activity but are not actually getting anywhere, being productive or delivering on what they promise. What could be holding your team or you back? Lets start with a corporate environment. More organisations than we realise are actually experiencing this inertia, and part of the deeper problem. It’s like the iceberg, this is just the surface. That whole lack of momentum and a stickability is just because there’s a deeper incongruence of purpose between what lights up individuals and the strategic vision or direction of the organisation that they work in. In my experience, the only way to help to get some kind of momentum, cohesion around a purpose. Stephen Johnson:  Removing the Fear and Creating a Safe Space To Thrive Create an environment where people can contribute together to actually design what that purpose looks like. If you’re not sure, just ask. “As a company, even though you’ve got ‘purpose’, you still have to have a way of checking that people aren’t pretending they’re all over it and getting things done.  Make it safe for people to say they are not sure what you want or how to deliver” Ask those really tough questions: How do our various skills contribute to bringing that to life? Is there a complex problem that intersects with our business in society? Are we suffering from legacy systems and processes that are, as Simon Sinek would say, bad for business and bad for people. Is that going on? Nikki F.: Yeah, and that means people can hide in between the gaps then, right? And I think is a disruptive leadership thing as well, is that you’ve got to call people out when they’re making a fuss with no traction. Having worked with corporates nearly all my life, I’m always fascinated that a lot of this comes to the environment, that we should provide for our employees, that it seems that we’re playing not to lose, rather than playing to win, and I think there’s a real fear that comes with this. Mark Truelson Anything that comes with disruption, we’d rather not go about it,

 TVC080 Courage With Darcy Higgins | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:59

TVC080 Courage With Darcy Higgins Welcome to Episode 80 – Courage with Darcy Higgins. After a decade of working with high achievers and growing a deep connection as part of the Vitality family, one of the many things I feel proud of is the awesome people I get to coach and work with one-one, from different parts of the globe. From very established entrepreneurs and leaders, who are working on legacy and what’s next, high performing global intrepreneurs creating their impact inside organisations and the dynamic individuals with whom we bring to life their personal and commercial healthy, wealthy, wise trifecta. I LOVE what I do. Every so often I get to share their story.  One of these individuals is Darcy Higgins. Now based in Byron Bay, I met Darcy running along the beach on the Sunshine Coast one day and he walked up and said – hey are you that speaker/coach? He explained that he’d just bought an amazing house, moved in with his new wife and was going to start nursing study, but that he had a long way to go. Lots of positivity flowing in that moment. What you won’t know is at that day Darcy found it very difficult to clearly talk and articulate what he wanted to say. He’d had to learn speech all over again. After a freak head on motorbike accident at an intersection so close to his house. He’d had to re-build his entire body and learn to move, function and become independent. Something you would never have noticed until you started to really have a conversation. Fit and fierce he was determined and obviously curious about life.       A year later and Darcy reaches out. Darcy was a on a mission. To fight for the best life possible – he continued to have massive personal challenges and in 2017 decided it was time to stand up for what comes of courage and conviction: · To share his story to inspire others, to go to schools to teach high school kids how to be confident, clear and live a life on purpose. · To find his purpose on a deeper level and create a brand, a calling and a platform that was authentic. · To not fall into depression but to face his deepest fears head on and reach out for what lay ahead. Today, as you’re reading this Darcy just got back from the second of two epic overseas adventures. One by motorbike and the most recent one by foot. This is the first interview we did together, his very first go at sharing his story. Courage Just the fact Darcy was brave enough to come on camera and practice his public speaking in itself is a fantastic reflection of the values and drive. If there are things you may want to be doing but you find yourself sitting on the wheel of excuses or procrastinating. What are you waiting for? No one else is going to get up and do the work for you. Just get started. Reach out if you need some Mojo to turn the corner and see what may lie ahead. There is no greater feeling than when you take a leap of faith – whatever the outcome we always learn and it feels great to have choice not chance. Doing the Work We’ve been working together since mid year to build what his brand his, the core message, practice learning to write blogs, to speak in public, to create his brand identity and also a new website. It’s not just the go to market, it’s the confidence, the connection and the self belief we have also worked with Darcy on. Bespoke. An ultimate vitality roadmap for sustainable success. A heck of a project and he’s a fantastic example of our Founder VitalityTM Program. I’m looking forward to sharing more of this incredible journey with you as we have him back on the show this month.

 TVC079 Goal Setting Sabotage | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:44

TVC079 Goal Setting Sabotage 5 Reasons You May Be Roadblocking Your Own Goals Why Goal Setting Isn’t Working – the quick tips you can do to overcome leaving your goals on paper and turn them into results I know I work with some wonderfully inspirational high achievers, however the commitment through my content is to provide as many people as possible real, accessible and tangible tools to help all of you design the business and personal life you really love and can sustain.  So let’s get started…on today’s hot topic of why your goal setting may not getting may not be working out…        There’s so much out in the world at the moment about * how to set goals * what to do for your focus * how to define what you want * finding your why (really knowing it)…… .all very valid and crucial anchors for success and ones I also use in my programs – however the issue is, we’re not creating the actions, and we’re not achieving results. We set goals but nothing is happening when life gets in the way. Here are five core reasons why people don’t achieve their goals and how you can actually turn that around very quickly. * It doesn’t resonate * It isn’t relevant & It’s not real time * You’re Not Facing Your Fears * Distraction * Self Discipline (or lack of the integrated approach for getting things done) 1) RESONATE: Is it REALLY YOUR why? The first reason that most people don’t achieve their goals is they don’t know their why, or they got inspired by someone else and forgot to really check in with their own anchor. Quite simply, if you don’t want to fight for a goal, if you don’t believe in something enough, if you’re not gonna actually stand by that with conviction and clarity, then obviously it doesn’t mean enough for you to move heaven and earth and to start working on it. Your why could be as simple as: * just showing yourself self-discipline, or doing something because you want to set a role model example for your kids, * or because you finally want to look after the body that you have, * or it could be that you’re starting a business and you need to get more information around how to be a better business person commercially as well as sales and marketing. Your why is what is motivating you to set this goal. So, is your goal resonating with you? Is it really relevant to you? 2) RELEVANCE  Once you start talking about goal setting its figuring out is that goal relevant to you.  You can be inspired by other people, but you have to have a goal that’s relevant to you and your situation.  * Why is this goal important to you? * What’s the truth, and I had a great little chat with Lane Beachley, about this about the comfort with discomfort . We’re so afraid of our own truth. It’s not the truth that other people give us, it’s just owning your stuff. Owning where you’re at, owning what you really, really want. Find people around you where you can be completely transparent. The real honesty around this is its very, very few people that you can actually earn your truth with, and number one is that many of us can’t earn our truth with ourselves. So it takes time to reflect on that. You can’t have an understanding and transparency around what you really want if you don’t take time out to sit down and listen to your gut, because remember on the future episodes, before I talk about the fact your ego is not your amigo

 TVC078 Emergent Stephen Scott Johnson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:50

TVC078 Emergent Stephen Scott Johnson Welcome back to my Influencer Series episodes. this time talking movements, culture and the ripple effect, with Emergent author and culture king Stephen Scott Johnson. A genius in the world of creativity, innovation, advertising and creating movements, Stephen is passionate about helping people connect with their purpose and igniting that in people and organisations. How do companies and people can create a sense of shared purpose that unites collaboration and connection on a large scale. How do they do this for meaningful impact? Emerging Creative Insights and Connection Whether it was business or personal, it was about movements. What aligns with your purpose, and what you stand for as an individual? When we first met Stephen and I started talking about creating insights and connection for people to accountably live the life they want to. “What if we could have a conversation? Actually really connect with these people, and what would that look like?” Stephens journey and the focus of his work for the past 20 years has been around fuelling stronger and more authentic engagement. The movement focus started on a non for profit mission years ago. Blending Purpose and Projects – Where it began and UNICEF  Passionate about the environment and people having access to medicine and health services, Stephen was invited to help out on a project with UNICEF. The goal was to distribute insecticide impregnated mosquito nets. That’s, he says, is where it all really started. With a million infants dying a year from malaria, part of that problem was getting the nets to people that needed them the most. In the really remote places in the world.  The UN had an agenda to distribute 20 million nets by 2012.  Unfortunately the fund raising channels in not for profit were all competing against one another, so it was this dying model within an even bigger dying model. Stephens answer – what if we could get them all connected and working together? They found a way to leverage the principles of movements, to connect them all to each other, for extraordinary results.   This movement became the Undercover Movement, and it became the UN Malaria Envoy, the World Malaria Envoy, which delivered it’s 20 million nets two years before it’s target. Making A Movement At Home and At Work So how do you translate shared purpose when you’re working with organisations.  How do individuals find their purpose in a company and at home? When co-creation of a higher purpose that we all believe the perspective shifts, there is an opportunity and an invitation for organisations to ask Are there social problems that intersect with our business? If so how can we address them through our operation? Then the importance of getting staff, clients involved and all their partners and suppliers involved in co-creating that higher purpose. This is when you create critical aspiration to something that’s bigger than you or me, and the organisation. Moving from Selfish To Selfless There’s a well known quote from former AFL coach, Neale Daniher “It’s not what we say, it’s what we do. It’s not being selfish, it’s being selfless.” When organisations move from being selfish into selfless, and when individuals do that, the connection to the greater purposes. It starts at home. It starts within you, and it’s the conscious leadership, it’s actually how you bring yourself to a situation first and foremost.  Then how you do that with one and two and three people, a few other people and then how does that impact the culture of the place you’re working in.

 TVC077 Vulnerable To Accountable | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:41

TVC077 Vulnerable To Accountable In this episode I share my top tips on why it’s vital to be vulnerable and recognise that every phase has it’s opportunity to learn and evolve in leadership and in life. Recognising that roadblocks in life and business are part of growth, knowing where you sit in the scheme of chaos to calm and 5 things to consider when you need to ask for advice from others. The shift from vulnerable to accountable and why it’s important to recognise that feelings of discomfort or vulnerability aren’t necessarily a negative thing. Replace fear with curiosity and define your NOW, THEN, NEXT and IF with the Vitality Road Map Check Point quadrant. At the end of the day your true destiny comes from your inner GPS and how you actually decide to walk your path and what actions you take regardless of what happens to you. Understanding where you sit right now – vulnerable is not a negative feeling If you’re feeling out of sorts or out of control, confronted with decisions or just that elements in life are not aligning and you’re without support then here’s quick steps to get back in the drivers seat. The first step:  grab a piece of paper and he draw on that piece of paper a quadrant, the Now, the Then, the Next and If. In that Now box, Write down every single thing that is going on with your life, everything that’s concerning you, the good things, the bad things, the great, the remarkable, the horrible, everything possible. The fill in the Then. What was happening when things were going well, when you felt great, when you were happy not only at work but also happy in yourself as a person. Proud of yourself, proud of your behaviours, not trying to manipulate situations but what did great look like?” Write down the feeling and circumstances and situations when things were going really well in the Then box. Next: The bottom Left.  What would you have to do next? What would have to happen next? What situations would have to change? What people would have to do? What conversations would have to happen? What business would have to happen? What time would have to happen? What do you need to do to make a shift from now that you’ve recognised you’re at this point where things really can no longer be hidden and they no longer … Where would you like to be? What would you like to feel like, look like, act like, do?  The last part of this is the recognition what would happen if you do not make any changes.  It is the If box. If you do not change; * if you continue on this path * if you continue with this mindset * if you do not reboot your personal hard drive and take responsibility for being in charge of your life and how you are as a human to yourself and to others, what will happen if you do not change? That is a very sobering moment – what is your trajectory if you stay in this behaviour and you stay in this element? Vulnerable Means You’re Aware: Be Accountable and Listen to Your Inner GPS Your ego is not your amigo.  As you’re writing down your ideal Next, you notice that lots of ideas and should’s and could’s and society measures pop up into the dialogue, it might fight you for what truly you want. The first answer when you ask yourself a question is always the right one. All the other stuff was just layers on top that we thought we should think or should do or should be or should provide. When you’re writing your Next box which is that bottom left-hand quadrant,

TVC076 Mission Meaning Mojo Mark Truelson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:41

TVC076 Mission Meaning Mojo with Mark Truelson Meet global speaker corporate disrupter and all round great guy Mark Truelson. Part of my Influencer and Founder Vitality series Mark’s courage to share his come back from depression to running a global consultancy is inspiring and real. Sharing his journey from hero to zero then how he got his meaning back in life with the help of some vital friends, a sense of purpose for his family and himself. We discuss the importance of speaking up, vulnerability, moving through moods when life throws you curve balls and how to actually accept the help you’ve been offered. Six years ago, after having decades of a successful career, Mark decided to start his own consultancy to help other organisations sort of build their disruptive capability. Probably at that time everything for me was fantastic. It was it flying. Out of left field my marriage dissolved. My wife decided that it was no longer for her, and suddenly my dreams became different. I became a solo dad with three kids, and the thought of building disruptive capabilities for organisations probably went down quite a bit. The Collateral Damage of Success Mark’s priorities got a re-shift. What was his meaning and mission now? Mark suddenly had to become the dad he thought he should have always been, and his big focus was on the kids. It was really difficult to keep focused on having a career, building a consultancy, and also being a fantastic dad. Many of the men and leaders who I work with in private coaching are on their second round of marriage and were hit hard as they climbed the corporate or business ladder and found their personal life was not growing or evolving at the same speed and alignment. They’re often realising they were working hard and not paying the right amount of attention to home life as it was “all for family”. Fulfilment isn’t just your financial bottom line. It’s remembering that your family, your personal well-being has to be part of that business plan as well. On Today’s show we highlight some vital elements for regaining your meaning and your mojo * Role Playing – The subconscious roles at home and at work * Staying Connected – Revisiting your shared purpose * Structures and New Game Plans * Nurture Personal and Commercial Relationships * Goals vs Actions 1. Role Playing – Are You Subconsciously  Taking On A ‘Role’ At home What was fascinating, when I worked in corporate, all the structures were in place. So I was probably the workaholic. Loved going to work, loved getting people excited at work. I was sort of the general manager at work. My wife happily had the title of general manager at home. And our roles were very clearly sort of defined. When I decided to get out in the consultancy and build my own consultancy, that’s where the roles became a bit blurred. And if I look back, without trying to get that clarity between what I was doing and what my wife was doing, I think that was probably the genesis of our destruction from a relationship point of view. Often when people go into more senior leadership positions they lose sense of having to be responsible at work. There’s a lot of emphasis on performance and most people are cited saying,  I want to do this because I want to provide for my family. At the end of the day, your personal world, being your family, seem to be last on the list. * Whether or not you’re a founder or work for an organisation – remember to keep your blend at home as well as work and communicate. Who’s in your dream team you can talk to about ...

TVC075 Vinnies CEO SleepOut with Nikki McWatters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:51

TVC075 Vinnies CEO SleepOut with Nikki McWatters The 6th Pillar of Ultimate Vitality is giving back. This year I’ve signed up to do something a little different and join the Vinnies CEO SleepOut – choosing the more chillier location of Melbourne. I proudly support many non for profit events and have a long standing relationship with 2 key organisations.  The Layne Beachley Aim For The Stars Foundation as a mentor and running workshops for their recipients, the RSPCA and then support local community projects and events where I can.    So why Vinnies CEO Sleep Out and why now? I was drawn to this particular cause after I got talking to a former CEO who had at one time almost lost his home, his family and everything. He was very near to living on the streets via a variety of interconnected events that had him going from hero to zero very quickly. We spoke about the role of charities who provide the behind the scenes bare necessity support for those who are on the brink mentally, financially, socially and physically. Organisations such as the Salvation Army and Vinnies. Providing a range of support from temporary housing to $50 for electricity, warm blankets or a meal for you and your children. It is not always those you would expect who need the help most. While we need to be aware of, support and build awareness for those who need us overseas and in far away places, there are many people who are in our own community that are in dire need for our support, a sense of connection, wellbeing and help when they need it the most. Before I head to Melbourne next week to join this event I wanted to share the story of someone else who on the outset you would never expect to have been homeless. Someone well educated, driven and ambitious. Who knows first hand what it is like to go from striving and thriving to barely surviving with a young family. I hope you enjoy this podcast with author and Vinnies SleepOut ambassador Nikki McWatters. Her story is real, raw and genuine. It’s up to us not to brush past people, to assume that people who need it the most even know how to ask for help. It’s up to us as family, friends and as a community to see the signs, to have empathy and break down the stigma so that we can create safety and a sense of belonging close to home. Meet Nikki Mc Watters  Nikki was born on the Gold Coast of Queensland in 1966, the eldest of four, to her school-teacher parents. A good student but rebellious, Nikki had aspirations of becoming an Academy Award-winning actress or a best-selling author. She dabbled in the theatre and revelled in rock n roll. At eighteen, after graduating well from high-school, she ran off to Sydney with a musician, with stars in her eyes and a bulging kit-bag full of dreams. Reality hit. A string of D-grade T.V commercials, a bit-part in a C-grade movie and some guest spots on Aussie soaps, was not ever going to bag her that Oscar. She married her muso (who’d become a roadie) and soon they had two young sons. In 1992, with two little boys under five, Nikki found herself alone and penniless when her marriage dissolved. She was 26. The relationship with her family was strained and Nikki moved onto the foldout couch of a nearby friend, with her children, and stayed there while she saved up for a bond on her own place. Her first independent home-sweet-home was a cockroach infested unit in a bad corner of Bondi Beach but she did her best to make it comfortable. Taking sporadic cleaning jobs for private homes she scraped by to pay the rent, the bills,

TVC074 Bullying In The Workplace With Tim Capelin | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:54

TVC074 Bullying In The Workplace With Tim Capelin Bullying and intimidation is not just in the school yard. In this episode I chat to leading workplace and employment law expert Tim Capelin from Piper Alderman about recognising the signs of bullying in adults, what to do if you’re facing this situation and steps to change mindset and approach around supporting your family, friends or colleagues when under pressure. Tim has over 25 years of experience;  his commitment is to help people achieve greater success, and to do that through his expertise in employment law. I like being able to assist on both sides of these matters. Most commonly I’m assisting employers to get the most out of their employees, and assisting executives approach their employment as they approach other commercial negotiations that they deal with and get the best out of it for them, which usually has a win for both them and the company. There’s been a lot of coverage lately about confidence and career development and more recently in Australia how to tackle bullying in the work environment. This is a timely episode. Bullying is not just child’s play – and more often than not it’s the emotional forms of intimidation that are causing lack of performance, confidence and in worse cases extreme levels of stress and depression. I have asked Tim to share his insight and join the discussion around Identifying the signs How to take measured steps to ensure you can get help if needed Observe your own behaviour to be considerate of others. What are the signs of workplace bullying? How would you describe some situations that you’ve certainly had come across your desk? Tim: Bullying for adults in many respects is not different to bullying for children in that the experiences emotionally and physically are probably very similar. Certainly the emotional impact of it can be very significant. It usually arises from feelings of one party using their, particularly in the C-suite example, their positional power over others whether it’s a CEO or senior manager abusing their power to impose it upon the executives that report to them, or the CEO copying the behaviour  possibly from the chair. They often say whether you’re an executive or a CEO, it’s very lonely at the top. That possibly highlights or exacerbates the feelings when people are under stress and being what they perceive to be being attacked by their boss. Nikki: I think what’s interesting is a lot of talk about functional and strategic hard skills when we go through career development, but what we lose a lot of is our personal skills when we gain more responsibility in the workplace. Dealing with emotional matters become much more difficult because there’s many more layers on top of it than there would normally be. Let us also be clear that this is right through the organisation. I know people that actually when they wake up in the morning, they have heart palpitations, they’re drenched in sweat, and they’re actually afraid of going to work with exactly the same emotional repercussions as kids are afraid of going to school. We have people that are in really good jobs and really good positions actually feeling anxiety because of people around them in the workplace and not being able to deal with these emotional issues. They’re having physical repercussions and physical results due to that anxiety level as well. Tim: Absolutely, you can see that happen. It can be compounded by circumstances outside of the workplace as well. What happens when people are feeling intimidated at work?

 TVC073 Founder Vitality Stephen Woessner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:32

TVC073  Founder Vitality Stephen Woessner I welcome Founder of Predictive ROI, legacy maker and data guru Stephen Woessner on the show,  to share his insights and story on passion, purpose and the importance of people in building a brand and a business. Part of my Influencer Series Stephens direct, energetic and engaging story will have you inspired and taking action to lead in business and in life. Founder and self confessed “data-geek” Stephen Woessner is guru of all things about predictive ROI:  SEO, online marketing and how to take that special online real estate of yours, which is your website if you’re owning a business, from average to remarkable. Stephen’s career spans both public sector, being in academia six years, the private sector and owning five businesses. Take away some top tips on building your emotional energy bank, dealing with stress, creating a game plan for your people and staying healthy on the road. I asked Stephen what his approach is to blending health, wealth and wisdom throughout his career: The three pillars, keeping together the energy, the mental fortitude,  of having the right people around you and being able to fail forward and pick yourself up. Here’s our 7 Founder Vitality Tips to stay engaged, energised and create a culture from within: Founder Vitality #1: Legacy Billie Jean King said “A sense of purpose is a privilege.” Running a business and being responsible from an early age for Stephen  has been about following the family hard work mentality and out of admiration and respect for his Grandfather. This might be kinda out of left field for some of your listeners, but I think I owe it to my family. Specifically to my grandfather, Peter. He was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1902. He grew up in Istanbul as a young Greek male, at a time when it wasn’t awesome to be a young Greek male in Turkey, where there was public executions of Greek men. There was a lot of ethnic cleansing and my grandfather grew up in that. And when he was at the ripe old age of eight, he became the man of the house, because my great-grandfather didn’t come home one day, because that’s what the times were like. And my grandfather grew up in that. Stephen’s grandfather came to the US in 1920, he had $10 in his pocket, couldn’t speak the language, and had no friends. He didn’t have a robust LinkedIn account or a lot of friends on Facebook, or he couldn’t create a Kickstarter campaign. He had this dream that he wanted to have a restaurant some day. But he had no path to do that. He started cutting vegetables and cleaning lettuce and washing dishes at a downtown Canton, Ohio, restaurant. After coming to the country with nothing, six years later he had saved enough money to own his own restaurant, and that was just two years before the Great Depression. He gave away more soup than he ever sold, married an amazing woman and had four incredible kids along the way, was a man of extreme generosity. Through all of that, Stephen remembers the fact that his grandfather focused on how to smile and took care of his customers. “So when I’m sitting at my desk late at night I have this photo on my wall in my office, and it’s a photo of my grandfather Peter, standing behind the lunch counter in his first restaurant with four customers sitting there at bar stools, eating fresh soup and sandwich he had made earlier that day”. Founder Vitality #2: Keep Perspective When Stephen thinks of the struggle and the sacrifice in everythin...
