We have the classic short story The Happy Prince and I think it’s pretty good. On we really don’t have any kind of theme this time. We will review a fantasy novel on Audible, and on These Are Your Stories we have orbs and then head to Mumbai, India. Our featured story is a pretty good one from the OTR series Escape. It is a bit on the creepy side but tells the story of Pollack and his encounters with the Porroh Man. It appeared in his short story collection The Plattner Story And Others published in April of 1896. It takes place in a swampy village on the lagoon river near the Turner Peninsula in Southern Sierra Leone. This is when Pollock had his first encounter with the Porroh Man. It would not be his last. The story is titled Pollock and the Porroh Man and what we will hear is an adaptation of the story from the classic OTR series Escape. It first aired on October 29, 1947. On it’s all about the western and more to the point a western theme. We haven’t done that in a while and it’s high time we get to it. Everything on the show today has something to do with the old west. On we have something special. We play the classic old-time radio version of A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens. This adaptation is performed, written, and directed by Orson Welles. The part of Ebeneezer Scrooge is played by actor Lionel Barrymore who has performed this role more than once during his historic career. Also, on the show, Sylvia Shults and I preview next week’s groundbreaking podcast which will be focused on A Christmas Carol. Featured Story - A Christmas Carol This story was part of the Campbell Playhouse which was a CBS radio drama series directed by and starring Orson Welles. It recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man. It was originally published on December 19, 1843, by Chapman & Hall. On :  First I want to thank everyone that sent me notes of condolences and encouragement for me and my brother. I am sad to report that on Thursday, November 4th, 2021 my brother James Allen Thompson passed away. He was a good man and will be missed. Thank you all for your support. The podcast today is a simple one. I need time off to deal with family issues and arrangements as you could guess. So for today, we will fill the whole hour with a story that my brother would love. It comes from the OTR series Screen Directors Playhouse and is a classic western starring Greggory Peck.  It is titled The Gunfighter and first aired on June 7, 1951.  Featured Story - The Gunfighter The Gunfighter is a 1950 American Western film directed by Henry King and starring Gregory Peck. It was nominated for Best Motion Picture Story during the 23rd Academy Awards. What we will hear is the Screen Directors Playhouse adaptation. It showcases some of the original cast and of course, Peck reprises his role as Jimmy Ringo. A young, reckless cowboy named Eddie deliberately provokes an argument with the notorious gunfighter Jimmy Ringo. The fight goes badly for young Eddie. Ringo is widely known as the fastest draw in the West, which makes him the target of every gunslinger eager to become famous as; The man who shot Jimmy Ringo.
