Intermission Podcast

Summary: The Intermission podcast is a look into the world of movies from four friends, who really have no business running a podcast. The podcast is primarily movie related, but often the Movie Guys will get sidetracked, and discuss anything that may be happening in their lives at that given moment. Video games, comics, trailers, and a little genre they like to call "other".

Divergent and Have Marvel Movies Peaked? – Intermission Podcast 29 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:02:35

This week we finally dive deep into the debate as to whether or not Marvel is on the downhill slope. It's been a long time coming, and something we've touched on a bit in the past, but we finally devoted some time to it. Also this week we discuss Divergent (which is awesome), 8-Bit Happy Gilmore, and should super hero movies release an alternate, R-Rated version? This week on the Intermission Podcast: Divergent Apparently is based on a book, who knew? Is Divergent changing the way studios make Sequels (further reading) Two sequels already in the works, with release dates. Insurgent (March 20th 2015) and Allegiant (March 18 2016) They are using market research to decide that “This specific weekend will be successful no matter what” Welcome to Night Vale Welcome to Night Vale is this awesome podcast Josh and I listen to. It listens like an old radio play, and get's really far out there. If you are a fan of fiction, and need a new podcast to listen to, you should probably check it out. Subscribe to Welcome to Night Vale here. Is Marvel on the Downhill Slope This is really the highlight of this weeks episode. We discuss some inevitable facts about the Marvel Universe, which leads me to the point, that it's all downhill from here. Of course Guy disagrees and resorts to yelling, but that's typical for Guy. Happy Gilmore 8-Bit Video Game I want to play this game! It told the whole story in 2:45. That makes me sad Made by 8-Bit Cinema by CineFix Had other movies as well, like a streets of Rage version of Fight Club Atari Urban Legend According to Josh, Atari destroyed and buried a bunch of games and consoles in a landfill, somewhere in New Mexico (thats a made up place if I've ever heard one). Pac-Man, and E.T. to name a couple of the games. A documentary film crew is looking for the games, and was told to stop by the EPA or somebody like that, because there is a risk of digging up hazardous waste.

Ep 28: Need for Speed, Arnold Schwarzenegger Drives a Tank, and Kenny vs Spenny | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:56

This week on The Intermission Podcast the Movie Guys discuss their latest outing to the Silver Screen VII. We watched Need for Speed, and were pleasantly surprised. Also this week, we discuss Arnold Schwarzenegger smashing things with a tank for charity (scroll down for video), the potential return of the Canadian TV show Kenny vs Spenny, and we tackle the age old debate of DC vs Marvel. This week on the Intermission Podcast: Need for Speed Heading into the theater for Need for Speed, I think we all had pretty low expectations. However, we were all pleasantly surprised at the final product. The movie was entertaining, had some fun Easter eggs to other car movies (American Graffiti, Bullitt), and just felt like it did the video game justice. All in all it seemed like a modern twist on a classic car movie. It wasn't all good though. There were some gimmicks that seemed to only be added for the sake of 3-D. Which you probably wouldn't notice unless you were watching in 3-D. There were also some crashes where cars spontaneously erupted into flames, but honestly what car movie hasn't done this? Corey Reviews 3 Days to Kill Up next, Corey discusses his viewing of 3 Days to Kill. He wouldn't come out and say it was bad, but he sure hinted at it. Overall he just seemed to lack excitement about the movie, and recommends it for a rental. Arnold Schwarzenegger Drives a Tank for Charity Ok, so here's what we know: Arnold Schwarzenegger gets to smash things with his personal tank. Yes, personal. Apparently if you have $10 you can enter to win a day with Arnold If you win, you will also get to smash things with a tank like Arnold Buy your tickets here, it's for a good cause! Cosmos Review While we won't be reviewing Cosmos every week, we thought we should at least discuss our reception of the first episode. Here's a hint, we really liked it. Fantastic 4 Reboot Cancelled, Or was it? Corey and Guy get all excited about the Fantastic 4 reboot being cancelled. Little did they know, it was all just a rumor and fox has confirmed that they are moving forward with the reboot. Guy is crushed. Captain America vs Superman/Batman Turns into a Marvel vs DC debate By now I'm sure everyone has heard that Captain America 2 is slated to release on the same day as the Superman Batman flick. For some reason, Guy thinks that Batman will beat Captain America. This obviously led to the debate over who wins, DC or Marvel. Personally, I think the winner is pretty clear, but Guy thinks DC would be the victor. He doesn't help his case much by bringing up Aqua-man. Bullet: Staring Danny Trejo Yet another fine action flick starring the legend, Danny Trejo. Hang Men on Discovery So Discovery is launching their latest reality show, Hang Men. It's a show following the guys that climb communication towers and ultimately make civilized life possible. Also, their balls are huge. The following video isn't a clip from Hang Men, or an ad spot for Hang Men, but it is a video of some guys climbing a 1700ft transmission tower. It had me sweating just watching. DJ Snake and Lil' Jon - Turn Down for What Feast your eyes on the greatest music video we've seen recently. It's basically a party video where a guy, well, humps things. It's hilariously awesome and reminds us of something that would have been featured on Beavis and Butthead. Kenny vs Spenny to return on Netflix Finally, we discuss the return of Kenny vs Spenny. No, they aren't coming back to TV, but they are currently trying to get Netflix to pick them up as a "Made for Netflix" series. While I think it's awesome that they are making a comeback, I'm not convinced Netflix should be the next TV channel. Haven't seen Kenny vs Spenny? You're missing out. There are several full episodes you can watch on YouTube now.

Ep 27: Cosmos, I Effing Love Science, and Human Centipede 3 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:48

I hope everyone likes science, because this week on the Intermission Podcast we get sciency. Cosmos, I effing Love Science, and hover-boards, oh my! Also this week, we talk Human Centipede 3, loud movies, Non-Stop, and Knights of Badassdom. So sit back, grab a 2-liter of Mountain Dew, and get ready for this weeks Intermission Podcast! This week on the Intermission Podcast: Corey reviews Non-Stop, and Knights of Badassdom. That's right, Knights of Badassdom. BTTF Hover-boards by HUVr Tech Was this viral marketing for a possible Back to the Future reboot? Nope, just a CollegeHumor hoax They even released a YouTube video featuring none other than Christopher Lloyd Cosmos on Fox Cosmos is a reboot of a 1980's series that was originally hosted by Carl Sagan In the reboot, renowned scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson is the host. Seth McFarlane is an executive producer and ultimately was the one responsible for getting it back on the air. Sagan’s widow had the rights to the show, and it was McFarlane that was able to convince her to let it go to Fox. Cosmos aired on 10 Fox channels and affiliates. Fox, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Mundo, Fox Life, FX, FXX, FXM, and even on Fox Sports 1 and 2. But not Fox news, surprise surprise. President Barack Obama, introduced the series in a video message during its Sunday night debut. I F-ing Love Science TV Show The Science channel has officially green-lit a new series inspired by the hit Facebook Page, "I F-ing Love Science." The series will be hosted by Craig Ferguson, who apparently effing loves science. Will debut this fall on the Science Channel Olympus Has Fallen emergency broadcast system fine It turns out that using emergency warning tones in a TV commercial with images of the White House blowing up and the flashing words "THIS IS NOT A TEST" is frowned upon by the government. The FCC is issuing fines to the sum of $1.9million to those stations that misused the emergency broadcast system tones. Freedom of speech doesn't apply when you are creating a false panic. The offending trailer: Connecticut to ban loud movies So get this, some idiots in Connecticut has decided to try and ban loud movies. That's right, any movie over 85dB will be considered illegal. Guy breaks 85dB every week here at MovieGuys HQ! Legally he won't be allowed near a theater! To put things in perspective, street traffic is comparable to 85dB "Hopefully this will be a wakeup call to the theater owners and the MPAA to get their act together and do something that's good for the public and still will satisfy their needs," said William Young, a Stamford resident and chemical industry consultant who has pushed the measure. "Why they need such loud sounds is beyond me."

Ep 26: Nebraska, Godzilla 2014, and Zombeavers Oscar Campaign | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:48

This week we revisit our discussion on Maximum Overdrive. Also this week we watch Jack Reacher, Nebraska, and some other stuff. Yeah, they're older films, but lets be honest, there isn't much out in theaters right now. In local news, Josh tells a story about going down a giant slide on a sheet of wax paper, after the slide had been hosed down with Armor All. The slide was located at O.O. McIntyre park in Gallipolis, Ohio but has since been removed. We're really sad that we can't recreate Josh's childhood. Movies We Watched This Week Maximum Overdrive on IFC Josh and Craig watched Maximum Overdrive this week. It aired the day after we recorded the Olympics episode. While Josh still thinks it's stupid, he liked it. Nebraska From Josh: Absolutely no reason to be in black and white. Shouldn't have been nominated. The story was OK at best. He's pretty sure it was geared toward "city folk" and felt like it was just like everyday life for us. Nebraska is a pass in Josh's book. Jack Reacher Jack Reacher really surprised Josh and Craig. We were expecting a Mission Impossible-esque film. However we were delighted with the fact that it was a Murder Mystery. Intricate, fun twist, and Robert DuVall is the tits. Idiocracy This is Craig's favorite Mike Judge movie. For once Dax Shephard is in a role that suits him. Movie News Godzilla Trailer Josh's Godzilla pre-review seems to be way off from what the trailer depicts. As usual we are split on our opinions on the retro Godzilla look, but we can all agree that he needed modernized a bit more. Steven Seagull goes strait to Red Box in Dark Vengence While I liked the fact that it's a Steven Seagul action movie, and the addition of George Takei, there are just some aspects that I couldn't get over. Unfortunately I couldn't even finish my viewing. Frozen passes the $1 Billion mark That's pretty much pure profit right? More importantly, what costs more to produce, animated movies or filmed movies? Yet again we raise questions that none of us have answers to. Mythbusters Ping Pong Ball Special Ever watch Mythbusters? Well this last episode is a must watch! They hyper accelerate a ping pong ball using things that you can get at your local hardware store. They reach speeds over 1000MPH! Minecraft Movie How is this going to work??? Apparently they signed on the producer from the Lego Movie, so I guess it could work? It would probably make a funny live action movie, but it will be animated or machinama style. Daniel Craig to start filming the next Bond film in October. Not that we want it to, but will the franchise ever end? President Obama Announced that we are building Iron Man Possible Matrix Trilogy There are rumors floating around that the Wachowskis are planning a new “Fresh” Matrix Trilogy. We're pretty sure it's just a rumor. Jurassic World Villain Announced Get ready for this, Vincent D’Onofrio to play the villain in Jurassic World. Don’t know who that is? It’s the guy that played private Gomer Pyle in Full Metal Jacket.

Ep 25: Movie Olympics, Intermission Podcast Style | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:02

The Olympics are over, but that didn't stop us from doing an Olympic themed podcast! Our version of the Olympics has a lot less sports than the real Olympics, and a lot more movies. Some might compare this weeks episode to the Academy Awards, but with a second and third place, and you know, better. After we make it through our Movie Olympics, we discuss a few recent news topics. Mainly the alternate version Anchorman 2 that will be returning to theaters February 28. We also talk Space Jam 2, and the house from the movie Psycho.

Ep 25: Movie Olympics, Intermission Podcast Style

Ep 24: RoboCop, Portal 3, and Nike Power Laces | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:02:29

This week on the Intermission Podcast we talk RoboCop, Looper, and we re-visit the Lego Movie (Don't worry, Corey still thinks it's awesome). Also this week, we talk Portal 3, Titanfall, and Josh tells another bathroom story. Hopefully it's the last bathroom story from Josh, but you never know what's going to happen in a public restroom. On this weeks episode of the Intermission Podcast: RoboCop (2014) The first movie we discuss this week is the new RoboCop. As a generally consensus we enjoyed the film, but had varying views on the film. While we all had different views, we did share the same issue, why did RoboCop have a human hand? It made his suit look unfinished, and after watching the movie, it seemed extremely pointless. The Lego Movie Revisited We answer the two week old question, is The Lego Movie anti-business? Apparently a certain news company thinks that the Lego Movie is another example of an anti-business agenda being shoved down our throats. Excuse me? We are talking about a two hour commercial, created by Hollywood, possibly the biggest business in the country. Idiots. Looper, It's really complicated This week, Craig finally got around to watching Looper. It's an extremely involved movie, and needs to be watched several times to really get what is going on. Hell, we've all seen it and we still don't really know what happened. One thing we can agree on though, is how awesome Joseph Gordon-Levitt looked as a young Bruce Willis. Was it CGI or prosthetic? And could he possibly be the next John McClane in a Die-Hard reboot? The only thing that really bothered us with Looper was Jeff Daniels. It's hard to take the man serious after his role in Dumb and Dumber. Portal 3 Ok, so it's not really Portal 3, but Hidden Valley Team, an indie developer from Russia, is working on what we are going to call Portal 1.5. It is a game being made without Valve, that will supposedly be filling in the plot gaps between Portal, and Portal 2. The game is called Conversion, and will be released to Steam on March 28. Click here for more. Black Widow Movie This seems to be a recurring topic, but is Black Widow a big enough character to have a stand alone movie? Guy King says no. This leads us back to the topic of the entire comic book genre. Has it peaked, and is Hollywood just milking it for every dollar it has left? Nike Power Laces This is probably the most exciting development in shoe technology I've heard in years, Nike Power Laces. According to a designer working for Nike, we will be seeing the famed Back to the Future power laces debut in 2015. That's right, 2015. The very same year that Back to the Future 2 happened. It's no hover-board, but its a start.

Ep 23: Mountain Dew Jello, Zombeavers, and The Lego Movie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:36

We start out this weeks episode with a special bonus segment. If you listened last week, you may recall a little idea we had about Mountain Dew Jello. Well, that is no longer just an idea, we made it happen, and it was good! We think there still needs to be some tweaking, but we'll be publishing the recipe soon! Also on this weeks episode we discuss some movies we watched (Lego Movie, Monuments Men), we watch the new trailer for Zombeavers, and Josh shares some pooping stories. On this weeks episode of the Intermission Podcast: Mountain Dew Jello! First up, we try our Mountain Dew Jello. I think we all came to an agreement that the plain, straight Mountain Dew and gelatin was the best, but next time we want to try it with Mountain Dew concentrate. So, whoever wants to send us some.... Zombeavers Right out of the gate, Josh throws down this awesome new trailer for Zombeavers! I don't want to start sounding like Corey, but it looks really awesome! No matter how awesome Zombeavers looks though, we are still expecting a straight to DVD/TV release, possibly SyFy. The Expendabelles The Expendabells, a reboot of the Expendables that will feature a mostly female cast. Does the Expendables really need a reboot already? I can completely understand wanting to include a more female cast, but just throw some badass chicks in with the Expendables. There is really no need for there own film. Independence Day 2 / MIB 4 Rumors It's hard to follow something like Zombeavers, but Corey announces that Big Willie himself (Will Smith) will not be participating in an Independence Day Sequel. It's speculated that it is all about money, but who knows. While we are talking about Independence Day 2 and MIB 4, Guy get's really patriotic. Not trying to make light of his patriotism, but it was hilarious! The Olympics For the most part we aren't huge sports fans at the Intermission Podcast, but where would we be if we didn't at least mention the Olympics? Or as Josh calls it, figure skating. We speculate that the women's hockey players wear face cages to help keep them pretty. Jurassic World being shot in large format? Did you know that Jurassic World is being shot in film? Well, not only is it being shot in film, but parts are being shot in large format (65mm) film! It can only be assumed that Jurassic World may be getting an IMAX release, which would be completely cool in our book. Guy raises the question of, will the original cast be involved? This was a stumper for the MovieGuys, we'll get back with you on that. The Lego Movie After Josh scheduled a group outing for us to go and watch the Lego Movie, only 3/4 of us showed up. Guess who missed out, Josh! Yeah, we're pretty steamed too! Our viewing was only a 2-D show, and we don't normally say this, but we think it was probably worthy of a 3D ticket. Some voices to listen for in the Lego Movie: Bad Cop / Good Cop - Liam Neeson Superman - Channing Tatum Green Lantern - Jonah Hill Abe Lincoln - Will Forte Metal Beard - Nick Offerman Shaquille O'Neil - Himself Monuments Men Craig and Josh went and watched Monuments Men without Guy and Corey. They weren't very happy because they really wanted to see it. They both really liked the film, but Craig really liked the fact that John Goodman didn't ruin it. The film was also based on a true story, which makes us wonder, exactly how much of it was really true? Toilet Stories Unfortunately for our listeners we do tell some toilet stories this week. Yeah, we know, it's pretty gross. But hey, it's pretty funny and was bound to happen eventually.

Ep 22: Guy wears a shock collar, Ninja Turtles, and Super Bowl Ads | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:09

It's finally here! Guy lost the western poll, apparently Tombstone isn't the best western ever. You know what that means listeners, Guy has to wear the shock collar! Guy took it like a real champ, and wore it way longer than any of us expected. Things get a little jumbled, but man is it funny. The "Rage Gauge" hits a new high of 112dB. When Guy finds out that he hit a new level on the Rage Gauge he goes from mad about the shock collar, to happy. It was a really weird transition. Subscribe/Listen to the Intermission Podcast Warning: The Intermission Podcast contains language that may not be appropriate for all audiences. On this weeks episode of the Intermission Podcast This week we open with a discussion about Pitch Black Mountain Dew Jello. Whick of course leads to our idea for "Mountain-brew" and other Mountain Dew flavors. Ever hear of Mountain Dew Doritos? They exist! Craig tells a story about a trip to the hospital, because he was pretty sure he was going to die. Do chicken strips belong on pizza? We think so. Guy likes the leaked pictures of the Ninja Turtles. We finally get Guy to wear the shock collar. Things get kind of jumbled for a while, but it's still pretty entertaining. As we are discussing next weeks episode Corey lies about a heart condition to avoid the shock collar. He quickly changes his tune when we bring up a paintball gun. Anyone watch Family Guy? Last week there was a character that very closely resembled Josh, and his likeness. Same name and everything. Groundhog Day, isn't on TV! What's wrong with this world!? Gateway Film Center, a theater in Columbus, Ohio shows Groundhog Day for 24 hours, and if you make it through the marathon, you get free movies for a year! How awesome is that? Last week Craig mentioned that Seth MacFarlane's new western, A Million Ways to Die in the West was going to be a serious western. He was way wrong. It's going to be a comedy, and a good one at that! We discuss Super Bowl Trailers. And our disgust of trailers for trailers. Yet again we are on the topic of Doritos talking about our favorite Super Bowl commercials. That's the second time this week. Trailers we discuss: Noah Draft Day Spider-Man 2 3 Days to Kill Captain America: The Winter Soldier The Monuments Men Pompeii Hey, Philip Seymour Hoffman died. Apparently he OD'd on drugs. This leads us to the realization that we will outlive all of our movie idols. The official choice for Lex Luther makes Guy wish that they would have cast Denzel Washington. One of our fans sent Corey a gift. It's an awesome badge. He really likes it. Because it's awesome.
